Speaker 1: Hey, the folks, it is Tuesday, June sixteenth, and a celebrity breakup we didn't see coming. Jelly Roll has filed for divorce from his wife of ten years, and with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and tj Rome. You don't keep up with personal life that much. But we knew enough about it because he makes it such a part of his story. So did we miss something here? With something bubbling? We didn't know about it.
00:00:29
Speaker 2: I had no idea this was coming. I don't think a lot of people did, obviously. Jelly Roll, whose name is Jason DeFord, and his wife who goes by Bunny XO but is actually named Elisa DeFord. Yeah, he filed for divorce, by the way, a while ago May ninth, I believe was the actual date, but it's just now being made public and a lot of us I think most people are shocked because, as you pointed out, they were very effusive in their romance, in their love story, how it began, how it unraveled for a bit, and how they actually became closer than ever before, and even as as just early as a few months ago, he was crediting her, his wife, with saving his life.
00:01:18
Speaker 1: Gushing once again about her. But we are going to skip any speculation in anything solatious necessarily, and we'll just tell you what is out there, what we do know, and what we do know. There are official papers that outlets have gotten their hands on that from the courthouse there in Tennessee Ropes that he has files for divorce. The reasons being given are irreconcilable differences, at least officially, Robes, and that's it. We have not heard officially from him in response to what's out there, But Robes, you pointed out to me, we have heard from his wife.
00:01:55
Speaker 3: Kind of sort of yes.
00:01:56
Speaker 2: So she put something up on TikTok and then she also put something up on Instagram stories, so it all became public. On the day became public, she put up a TikTok video where she was lip syncing to Nickelback's song how You Remind Me? And so she was lip syncing these words. It's not like you to say sorry, I was waiting on a different story this time. I'm mistaken for handing you a heart worth breaking, Oh Christ, So read what you.
00:02:30
Speaker 3: Will through that.
00:02:32
Speaker 2: But that absolutely was an intentional cryptic TikTok.
00:02:35
Speaker 1: Okay, Well, what was she doing just gonna dance around and playing with it. Was there any point to what she was doing?
00:02:40
Speaker 2: Was she just she just she just sung along to that song. And then on her Instagram stories she had her a picture of her a sexy lingerie kind of a boudoir photo shoot where she is topless, she's holding a lace pink bra in front of her, and the caption.
00:03:03
Speaker 3: Says she's getting her sparkleback.
00:03:06
Speaker 2: And there's a song playing by the group Metric and it's called help I'm Alive. So, yes, everyone is reading the tea leaves by what Bunny posted.
00:03:17
Speaker 3: Strategically and deliberately. Yes.
00:03:20
Speaker 2: Of course, on the day that news was everywhere that yes, Jelly Roll had in fact filed for divorce from her.
00:03:28
Speaker 1: Okay, so you talk about tea leaves roes, Well, what is we sit here in June? It was at least high profile in February. Yes, that he was at the Grammys, we could talk about that, But has there been something else in a major way since then? I thought there was something else, maybe some Instagram posts and whatever, but there was no indication. Over the past several months they have still seemed solid, but in particular at the Grammys. In February, he was once again given her a shout out.
00:03:54
Speaker 3: Oh.
00:03:54
Speaker 2: He gushed about his wife and credited her, as I said, with saving his life alongside Jesus Christ. But he kind of put those two in the same space, and that makes a lot of sense.
00:04:07
Speaker 3: But yeah, and by the way, people also.
00:04:09
Speaker 2: Talked about how much they were just piling on the PDA at the Grammys, Like that's not typically something you see, especially from a couple who's been married for ten years. So yeah, people took note and were, you know, they were owing an eyeing over them, like this is such a sweet, cool, awesome couple who's been through it. It's not like they've had this perfect, storied ten year relationship. They have had very public ups and downs, but they've stuck through it. And it seemed as though they even renewed their vows in twenty twenty three. So look, it seems like they had really doubled down with the crap they went through and they had kind of weathered the storm. And so here he is in April, sorry when the Grammys are sorry February. In February saying this In his Grammy speech, he says, I want to thank my beautiful wife. I would have never changed my life without you. I would have ended up dead or in jail. I would have killed myself if it wasn't for you and Jesus, I thank you for that. That was just a few months ago, bab and that was one.
00:05:11
Speaker 1: Of the biggest moments of his life. He won the Contemporary Country Artists Grammy. The guy just want a Grammy. I mean, he can't get bigger than that in the industry for what he does. And he took the time to give her that love and that shout out. You go back a little bit and a reminder and again I say, Robes is the guy that people know has did spend time in prison, did have all kinds of issues, got his life back on track and here he is the success he is and she was a big part of that. But I had to go back. I didn't remember exactly how they met Rose, but it's a it's a hell of a it's a hell of a meet cue.
00:05:48
Speaker 3: It's a journey.
00:05:50
Speaker 2: Yes, so they met eleven years ago, I guess. Back in twenty fifteen, Bunny attended his show in Vegas and he was not a big name at that point, no name. I just want to make that clear, like she wasn't saying ooh, I'm going to hitch my start.
00:06:04
Speaker 3: Of that wagon.
00:06:05
Speaker 2: He was not who he is now. He had a great voice, obviously, but so to a lot of people. And look, they had mutual friends. They were friendly, they were texting back and forth, and all of a sudden, I guess what was it? A couple months later.
00:06:24
Speaker 1: He said, And the way he tells the story is that he came out to Vegas. They had been talking and going back and forth. I guess dating, But he said he came out to Vegas. They had sex in July for the first time. That got married in August.
00:06:39
Speaker 3: Yes, apparently it was really good sexy.
00:06:42
Speaker 1: But that's how he tells the story. So this this courtship wasn't much of one, but it went on for about a year with the back and forth, and he went to visit. That's how he said it went. He said, he's said what the proposal he proposed to her on stage at a.
00:06:56
Speaker 3: Show, Yes, in front of everyone, went to.
00:06:59
Speaker 1: The chapel in Vain. Because they got married that night. Yeah. I mean again, that kind of relationship to where if you got a guy and a girl willing to do that to get They sound like they were peas in the pod.
00:07:09
Speaker 2: Almost yeah, And look, they provided for one another what they were looking for and hadn't found yet.
00:07:16
Speaker 3: Look, she was in a situation, he described her.
00:07:19
Speaker 2: I believe these were his words, that she was a high end Vegas call girl. And she actually continued in the sex industry all the way up until twenty nineteen. So they got married in twenty sixteen. She continued in the industry, and he would talk about, how, Babe, I'm gonna make it. I'm going to be something so you can leave, so you can you can stop doing what you're doing. But she absolutely paid the bills for them for the first several years, doing what she did in Vegas.
00:07:48
Speaker 1: Robes to each their own, hisn't her own, but robes. If this works for them and they made that happen and there is life and history and family there, then okay, it's not traditional. I will never ever judge the money for their love and what it looks like. So for them to be able to make it, and you're right, Rope he was. He was an ex con who was playing shows in Vegas. Overweight, had no name, tattoos on his face. I mean, so she found him. There's something there robes.
00:08:27
Speaker 2: And they've talked at nauseum about how they felt about each other and their love for one another and how much they fell in love with each other's personalities. So I thought it was I mean, it was one of those really beautiful stories. So to even watch him go through this dramatic weight loss, you know, and he got his teeth fixed and he lost all this weight, and you know, part of me thinks like, oh wow, like he's finally working on him. He feels loved, he feels safe, he's he's healing. And then so so you're seeing this amazing physical transformation, and you're seeing the support of his wife, and seemingly as early as February of this year, you're seeing them actually maybe even you could say, reaping the benefits of all the hard work and all the trauma that they went through together. And we can get into a little bit. They separated for quite some time actually in twenty eighteen, I believe, but came out of it stronger and better. So it's one of those like we all love to look towards people or two people who aren't perfect, but who have been through shit and then figure it out and then get to thrive together, get to reap the benefits of going through that together. And we like to look at those people and put them up on pedestals and have them kind of be a shining example of when you go through dark times in your relationships, you think, well, shit, they could handle that.
00:09:50
Speaker 3: I can handle this.
00:09:51
Speaker 2: So yeah, there is a part of it where you even by hearing their struggles and then seeing their seemingly passionate love thrive, it's really disheartening to know now that they're going their separate ways.
00:10:06
Speaker 1: Talk about the bit right. They went through it and they're reaping the benefits. You want to see these two right off into the sunsets ago. We built this thing together, we struggled together, we made sacrifices, we did all this and now he is on top, as on top gets and he has been flawing his way there for years and would love to see him and he's going to continue in that. But you just hate this part of it. But Robes, you didn't mention the separation. Yes that was It wasn't that long, but we found out later what it was about. We didn't know at the time, and they kept it quiet for a while, but he has admitted that he did have an affair.
00:10:44
Speaker 2: Yes, he said he had an affair in twenty eighteen, and they worked through it, which I think is pretty damn beautiful and were able to come out of it, and both of them made multiple public statements about how they were better, stronger, more united, they felt safe together because they worked on their relationship. Following that, he took full he actually took full ownership of being responsible for that moment, and they separated, like actually separated for quite some time. So yes, to have worked through that, to have gotten through that, and to now be where they are now, I don't know you and I were trying to like we I would never speculate, but obviously you're always wondering why. And look with all of the recent headlines about these two, it was all about them creating their own family. They have Bailey Ann, who is Jelly Roll's daughter from two thousand and eight that was with.
00:11:36
Speaker 3: Another woman.
00:11:38
Speaker 2: And then he actually had a son I believe his name is Noah correct, right before he was born, I believe the week before they got married. So there are two children in the mix in the middle of this relationship that are a part of this family. So it's tough, and so they were wanting to add to it. That was the plan. That's what they were talking about. Had nauseam actually with anyone who would listen about getting a sarrogate and planning a family.
00:12:06
Speaker 1: So, yeah, you wonder. I mean, things happen in relationship. There's no reason to speculate you behind the scenes. You're just there's some I don't know, part of you that hopes they could find their way back to each other like they did once before. I don't know why. I guess it is or there are some couples. I guess there are some couples that are young and hot and get together and next thing you know, they're done after a year or even shorter than that, or even two years, three years ago. Outgrow each other and it's done. You expect it. But there are some that have been around and you expect to be around and you really believe in and I think not since what Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have I been Wow, you know, j Lo and Ben really really bothered me. But there are just some that you're like, wow, I want them to make it, and I don't know much about their relationship. But I knew, you know, it's almost like Eminem. I don't know anything about Kim, but he was rapping about her the whole his whole career, about his ex. I have no idea about her other than that stuff. I about, no idea about her, Jellie Rowl's wife other than what he talks about, what he sings about, and all of that stuff sounded positive, rothes and this was a wonderful influence and it has been in his life. So oh what happens here? And we haven't heard from him at all?
00:13:26
Speaker 2: Right, there has not been one word about any of this. And look, I do know this is maybe perhaps one of the cautionary tales about being so public about your relationship, because it's okay when it's going well, but when it's not, that is when now you're asked to answer questions that maybe you're not prepared to. And certainly everyone has a right to privacy. We've talked about this, and yet everyone feels like they have a right to know why, how, what now? And people always want to know what the next thing is, and that oftentimes is the double edged sword of being a celebrity. Right, so you enjoy and certainly need, perhaps even like the fan support of you and your relationship.
00:14:16
Speaker 3: But then if it doesn't work out, and we all.
00:14:18
Speaker 2: Know relationships oftentimes don't work out, but people are so invested and that's part of what's happening here with jelly Roll and yeah, his soon to be ex wife, I guess is the way to put it again.
00:14:31
Speaker 1: Maybe they can find their way back to each other. I just hope nothing horrible comes out. I hope nothing. I hope it doesn't get ugly. I don't feel or part of me is not always a little nervous that it might based on the social media posts.
00:14:47
Speaker 3: Yes, so it.
00:14:48
Speaker 1: Sounds like someone who is a little perturbed about something.
00:14:53
Speaker 2: Yes, so when we come back, we can talk a little bit about what's next, what we do know, and certainly we're hearing directly from Bunny.
00:15:02
Speaker 3: XO and.
00:15:12
Speaker 2: Welcome back everyone to this episode of Amy and TJ, where we are talking about just a sad breakup that we're very disappointed about, but hope to learn a little bit more about what may have caused this split, this divorce. Now we are learning that jelly Roll has officially filed for divorce from his wife bunny XO, and look, we have been following these two for so long and rooting them on.
00:15:40
Speaker 3: They've been up, they've been down. He lost all the weight.
00:15:43
Speaker 2: It seemed like the best years were ahead of them, and suddenly we get word that, Yeah, just a few weeks ago, jelly Roll filed for divorce. We told you what bunny Xo put up on her social media exactly on the same day the news came out. But it is interesting when we look back. We talked about his Grammy speech, but she too, Babe has been incredibly effusive when talking about jelly Roll and their relationship and how it came about and why it was he was the love of her life.
00:16:16
Speaker 1: And I again, you talk about well, I just hope and again, if they get asked about it, If he gets asked about it and he says it's a private matter and I don't want to speak about it, I would. I know it's not going to happen. But that should be the signal to every single journalist, every single photographer, Do not pursue the story one second more. Don't try to dig up and find out it's private and he is the source of the information, she is, And if they're not talking about it. The rest of it is just b s. I would love for people just leave them alone. I'm not going to speculate and not going to dig and go ask and an insider says, and let me go talk to his producer and who was on a train with him, and who was a zuber driver and who. Leave these people alone. If that's what they want, If they want to say something, fine, But I know they're very very public people, but these things we feel very strongly about it.
00:17:19
Speaker 2: Yes, And it's tough too when you are very public people and something suddenly changes, and it does appear that something has suddenly changed, because look, the last several interviews we were reading up on just what they've who they've talked to, and what they've been talking about in these past few months, and really it had been solely focused on building their family and adding to you know, she talked specifically about wanting to add to Bailey and Noah that she felt like she was she got to be a bonus mom to jelly rolls to other children, and she's seemingly been very excited about that role and wanted to have the role of added to it. So they even talked about having a surrogate. They named the sarrogate, So this was not just something they were fantasizing about. They were actually it seemed as though they were taking action on. So who knows how any of that. Like anyone who's dealt with trying to build a family and at a certain age they're in their mid forties, I believe. Look, it's not a given, so that can take a toll on relationships. But I just go back to when they renewed their vows in twenty twenty three, three years ago her Instagram post, you actually pulled this, babe, because it was meaningful and I think it's something just we wanted to share.
00:18:39
Speaker 3: So Bunny XO wrote this about jelly Roll.
00:18:42
Speaker 2: You, my sweet other half, are just that a man that was told no every corner he turned, only to hit him with that Nashville shuck and come out on top every time. I always tell you you have a horseshoe stuck up your ass. But that is an it, baby. This is sheer will to spread light, to move mountains, to touch broken souls with your voice, to break generational traumas and set examples for the future. In short, you are the game changer, papas you were sent here to destroy stereotypes and blaze the trail for all the have nots. There was real respect and love and like there, and you know, we don't know what happened, but we can only hope that it can give each of them peace, because these were two people who I think, just from having done the research we did for this episode, at least at one point truly loved and respected one another.
00:19:47
Speaker 1: Maybe they still do and just decided that it's time to go different directions. Who knows how these things go, but what we do know is that we don't know, and we should just respect that. And we can all still be upset bother that it's not working out for them, but maybe this is what he's the best for both of them. Pros And with that, folks, always appreciate you spending some time with us for my dear Amy Robot on t J. Holmes. Talk soon,
Speaker 1: Hey, the folks, it is Tuesday, June sixteenth, and a celebrity breakup we didn't see coming.
Holmes. Talk soon,
