Harry Uninvited To Stay At Buckingham Palace
We were all so hopeful that finally Prince Harry, Meghan and grandchildren Archie and Lilibet might have a royal reunion with King Charles and family at Buckingham Palace this week. Harry’s camp made the announcement that an invitation had been extended, but shortly afterward, the Palace announced that the Duke of Sussex didn’t respond in time to make the necessary staffing accommodations. Harry’s spokesperson suggested it may be the court decision regarding Harry’s lawsuit against the Daily Mail’s publisher that may be the real reason behind the Palace’s about face, not wanting King Charles in an uncomfortable position. Harry arrived solo in London on Monday, and right now, it’s unclear whether Meghan and the kids will join him later in the week outside of London, given security concerns and the government’s unwillingness to provide taxpayer funded security to the Sussexes.

Speaker 1: Hey, folks, it is Tuesday, July seventh, and the big headlines Prince Harry goes home. The bigger headlines Prince Harry not welcomed home and with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. Is he really couldn't stay at the house.
00:00:20
Speaker 2: This is house.
00:00:21
Speaker 3: This is such troubling news because at first we were all excited. We were told from Prince Harry's camp, from the Sussex spokesperson that yes, Harry had accepted an invitation to stay with relatives at Buckingham Palace during a scheduled five day visit, and there was word initially that he might even bring Meghan and the kids with him. Of course, seven year old Archie and five year old Lillabit they have not seen Grandpa, the King of England in four years. They have not been back since twenty twenty two. Harry had a series of charity events that he is going going to participate in, including the Invictus Games. He's there to announce it's I think one year out. But once it was deemed that the security that he's been asking for wasn't going to be given to him to the family, he opted out of bringing the family but he still said I'm gonna come okay.
00:01:16
Speaker 1: That this was a real downer to begin with. Robes the idea, I think all of us go back to Princess Die.
00:01:24
Speaker 2: We've been waiting for these boys to be.
00:01:27
Speaker 1: Okay, right, and so we're no matter what's happened, we're still pulling for that. Robes, I was I don't follow Royal news. When I heard that he was going back with the whole family, my shoulders relaxed a little bit.
00:01:40
Speaker 4: I'm telling you, I.
00:01:41
Speaker 3: Am chills thinking about the fact that they could, because that makes me emotional, Like when you bring up Princess Diana, you think about her looking down and thinking her two sons don't even speak, her ex husband doesn't really even have a relationship with his own son over what And look, even these statements released by Prince Harry's camp and Buckingham Palace are in competition with one another, so this is kind of I'm curious where you fall in this. I think we all kind of can read between the lines here. But according to Buckingham Palace, they claim that Prince Harry didn't confirm the invitation that was extended to him.
00:02:26
Speaker 4: He declined it at.
00:02:27
Speaker 3: One point but then on this same day changed his mind and said, you know what, I will come.
00:02:32
Speaker 4: I'm not going to bring the family because.
00:02:34
Speaker 3: I get it fine, the British government will not allow taxpayer dollars to be spent on securing my family, so I won't bring them, but I would still like to come. At that point, then Buckingham Palace comes out and says, we don't have You didn't give us enough time to make the necessary staffing accommodations for you. Do you buy that Buckingham Palace couldn't from Saturday night to Monday night have enough time to create the staffing accommodations that were necessary to allow Prince Harry to spend one night by himself at Buckingham Palace.
00:03:13
Speaker 2: I don't know what that protocol is.
00:03:16
Speaker 1: Seriously, on the surface, to an American who has nothing to do with any of this stuff, it sounds like, huh, all we need to do is throw him a blanket.
00:03:25
Speaker 4: Here's some fresh towels that we.
00:03:27
Speaker 1: Can accommodate him here quite easily, I'm saying, but I don't know how much. Like they say staffing, I don't know what they have to do, so it sounds far fetched to a lay person, and whose side of the story is this.
00:03:39
Speaker 3: By the way, So that was the Buckingham Palace's side of things. They said that he didn't give them enough time to prepare, and by the time he finally said he was coming, there wasn't enough time to make the proper adjustment.
00:03:52
Speaker 4: Adjustment.
00:03:53
Speaker 1: Here's my question, who is it in dispute? How much time was between them offering and before he confirmed.
00:04:00
Speaker 3: The only timelines that we've been given is that on Saturday, I believe at one point during the day he said, we aren't coming. I'm not coming. I won't be staying there. Excuse me, He's coming, but I won't be staying there. And then by Saturday evening he said, you know what, I changed my mind. I am coming, and his own camp released a statement saying that he was looking forward to spending the night at Buckingham Palace. And that is when Buckingham Palace came out and said basically that the King, King Charles had already reached out to his son, had already explained to him that there wasn't enough time to prepare for his visits.
00:04:35
Speaker 1: Wait a minute, so they're saying he put that statement out knowing God hell, well, he wasn't going.
00:04:40
Speaker 4: To be That was the implication. That was the implication.
00:04:43
Speaker 3: Now, then Harry's camp put out another statement, at least through his spokesperson and said it was disappointing that the offer has now been withdrawn. And then they believe it wasn't because staffing couldn't be adjusted. It was, in fact because they realized that a major judgment was coming out today, a ruling that has come out, by the way, in this long standing case where Prince Harry, along with six others including Sir Elton John sued the parent company of The Daily Mail for what they called illegal practices phone tapping, wired tapping to get information to print some tabloid stories. And so this decision was expected today and it's Prince Harry's camp belief that the King did not want Harry at Buckingham Palace when that ruling came out for fear that he would make a statement and it would look like the Monarch was making a statement.
00:05:38
Speaker 2: And that is their belief.
00:05:42
Speaker 4: That is their belief.
00:05:43
Speaker 1: Yes, Is that fair to say that they are publicly making this accusation.
00:05:48
Speaker 3: They are publicly making this accusation, Yes, and it must.
00:05:52
Speaker 1: Be explained he rose because it again to lay person to an American. When I hear Sussex put out a statement, you hear Buckingham Palax put out a statement, it seemed they all seem like royal stuff to me. But they are not working together, absolutely not, and they are actually absolutely warring at times even But it seems so foreign and ridiculous that why is his camp, well, his campus, Sussex.
00:06:22
Speaker 3: It's like when you get divorced and you have attorneys speaking on your behalf, things always end up getting worse because there is a public image that they're trying to project. It's not two people talking about each other who once loved each other or who are family together. It's people who represent those folks who have warring versions of events.
00:06:42
Speaker 4: And it gets it even, it makes it even worse.
00:06:45
Speaker 1: Your divorce analogy is good because this feels different to me. It's as if the divorce is two attorneys working at the same firm. For whatever reason, I always in something, well, it's all just royal stuff. Why aren't you working it out? And it just seems odd that they would publicly be going at each other.
00:07:03
Speaker 3: I know, it's very uncomfortable because we're not used to seeing this. I mean this all has been taking place basically since Prince Harry, or at least after he married Megan Markle and they sat down with Oprah. Ever since then, then, of course Prince Harry's book came out, Spare.
00:07:17
Speaker 2: Which one was the book that they sat down with Oprah.
00:07:20
Speaker 4: About, well, they sat down with her.
00:07:22
Speaker 2: I don't know if that was a book.
00:07:23
Speaker 3: But then now he's released his book Spare, and so yes, there are a lot of accusations flying around, a lot of hurt feelings. And the final word from Harry spokesperson was this basically because they made the connection that yes, this ruling was coming out on the same day that he would have been a bucking in palace, but that palace wouldn't acknowledge that. So Harry spokesourson said, it is therefore unclear why, having formally accepted the accommodation offer, that it has now been withdrawn at the last moment. So yes, they are very much saying dot dot we actually know the real reason. Here's the timeline of what was supposed to happen, or at least what has happened. June twenty seventh, that is when Harry said he and his children and Meghan were all going to come to the UK and stay in the Royal Residence. Then June twenty eighth, Harry reconsiders bringing his family because he finds out he's not going to get the security detail he wanted.
00:08:16
Speaker 4: Then on June.
00:08:16
Speaker 3: Twenty ninth, he says that he hopes problems can still be.
00:08:21
Speaker 4: Overcome to bring the family.
00:08:22
Speaker 3: He's still holding out hope he can bring Megan and the kids, but then he found out for sure it was not going to happen. On July second, he finds out that the court case is going to be announced on the day he's there today July seventh, and then it's announced that the kids aren't coming. But July sixth, as late as Sunday, he announces that he accepts the invitation, and hours later Buckingham Palace says, you've been informed.
00:08:51
Speaker 4: That wasn't possible last night. Basically, that's tough, but that doesn't sound right.
00:08:56
Speaker 1: How would he put out a state but knowing he's putting out false information to make his family look bad, why would he do that?
00:09:02
Speaker 3: We don't that's what the Palace is suggesting, but we don't know if that's the case.
00:09:06
Speaker 2: That's what they're saying, but they are saying publicly.
00:09:09
Speaker 3: The suggestion is that Harry already knew that his father said he couldn't stay, and he still released a statement saying he was going to stay.
00:09:16
Speaker 2: There is his dad having to okay all.
00:09:17
Speaker 4: This stuff unclear. I don't know how it works there.
00:09:21
Speaker 3: I know it's a tightly run ship and things that we wouldn't think matter. Do they care deeply about the public image of everything and everyone except for their own son, it appears, And that's the sad thing.
00:09:35
Speaker 2: But this, yeah, I really would like them to be okay.
00:09:39
Speaker 1: We all have grown up and everybody around the world has felt some pull at your heart about this family. And it has everything to do with the mom and for a long time, and we've been rooting for her and for what she went through publicly, and then what the boys from birth right little kids and so they got their own families.
00:10:03
Speaker 2: These kids should be playing together.
00:10:05
Speaker 4: I know they don't even know their grandfather.
00:10:08
Speaker 3: And Harry has talked about how his kids don't know London, they don't know the UK, they don't know his homeland, and it's so sad that he look, he doesn't feel comfortable bringing them there because of the paparazzi, and then to lose the case today against the paparazzi had to be an extra sting for him. But we know that Megan and the kids and Harry have been traveling in Europe in the days leading up, so there is speculation that once he leaves London and goes on to some other parts of the UK, that they may join him then outside of London, and that is still the hope that that could possibly happen. They they believe Harry has wanted to take both Megan and his children to his mom's grave in Northampton, UK, so there is that possibility.
00:10:51
Speaker 4: And he also said that look.
00:10:52
Speaker 3: His dad is undergoing treatments for cancer. He doesn't know how much longer his father has. He has even said something to that effect, and he said he wants his children to know their grandfather.
00:11:02
Speaker 2: So there's no plan to see dad.
00:11:03
Speaker 4: There is no plan.
00:11:04
Speaker 3: And the last time he saw Charles was on a solo trip to the UK last September, but he has five days in the United Kingdom. He got there again yesterday afternoon, so it remains to be seen if the kids in Megan will show up in Great Britain and it remains to be seen if somehow the King will make an effort to see them.
00:11:24
Speaker 2: I really hope they do.
00:11:25
Speaker 1: Remember the King came to the White House, right, he came to DC, and even then that we were talking about and there was talk is he going to see his son while he's in the US, and that didn't have but to go that far, to be there in London and not see that would be tough.
00:11:41
Speaker 4: That is tough, all right.
00:11:42
Speaker 3: But also speaking of tough, when we come back, we're going to talk about the tough ruling that Prince Harry was handed just a few hours ago by the High Court in London regarding the paparazzi, the Daily Mail and several other high profile folks who were trying to bring down on the tactics or at least call into question the tactics that some of these tabloid reporters use to try and get information. And welcome back everyone to this episode of Amy and TJ. Prince Harry is officially back in his homeland. He's in London. Actually, he has a series of charity events he's attending and sadly he did not stay at Buckingham Palace last night, as we thought at least at one point was going to happen.
00:12:36
Speaker 1: You know, I don't like to stay with my folks when I go home either, make sense, you.
00:12:40
Speaker 3: Know, It's just, you know, it's better to just stay in a hotel. And we don't know where he stayed. By the way, a lot of people have tried to figure out where he may have spent the night. We don't know that. We also don't know if he might be meeting up with the kids and with Megan, who are reportedly in Europe somewhere as he makes his way out of London into other parts of Great Britain.
00:12:58
Speaker 4: But just a few hours ago, a major.
00:13:01
Speaker 3: Blow to Prince Harry and to others, Sir Elton John, they lost this fight, this big court fight they were taking on the Associated Newspapers Limited, that is the parent company of the Daily Mail. But look, we had Prince Harry testified, he got up on the stand, he testified that the newspaper made his wife's life a misery. But all of his claims, all of them dismissed by the High Court. And so what the written verdict said was that the court could not infer that these stories had been obtained unlawfully.
00:13:37
Speaker 4: They could not infer.
00:13:39
Speaker 3: That there was a legitimate that there wasn't a legitimate and realistic way in which they could have been sourced. They couldn't prove that they tapped their phones, that they somehow were able to get into his voicemails. That wasn't provable, and so they could not and they did not hold the Daily Mail or the associated newspapers limited respect. And of course they put out this glorious statement about how it was magnificent vindication, and they said it was outrageous these allegations that Prince Harry was made, was making, that others were making, that we would actually place bugs in people's cars at homes, that we would listen to calls as they were made, and that we would elicitly access bank accounts. They said no credible evidence was ever presented. They vehemently denied it. And yes, they say they feel vindicated that the courts upheld. And look, the courts didn't say they didn't do it, they just said there was no way to prove that they did it, and so that's where it stands. So it's look, I'm sure he's happy to be home and his publicist are out there telling People magazine that he's having a wonderful time, he's in good form.
00:14:44
Speaker 4: He's happy to be home.
00:14:45
Speaker 3: And I'm sure all of that's true, but today, certainly like just the fact that he couldn't come home, the fact that he couldn't stay at a family royal residence where he grew up, that he was turned away, that is tough. And then on top of that to get this verdict that he was hoping for. He is in London right now, but he will be making his way to other parts of the country for the Invictus Games and to celebrate that, to make the announcement of the year.
00:15:13
Speaker 2: And where's the family?
00:15:14
Speaker 3: The families in Europe? They said they've been spotted in Europe, so they're nearby. That's why a lot of people believe that Megan and the kids will join him in the UK, just not in London.
00:15:24
Speaker 1: How are they received anyway in the UK? Do the people receive him with open arms? Do they receive her with open arms?
00:15:32
Speaker 2: Right? She was celebrated and at the time people were very excited.
00:15:35
Speaker 3: Megan the kids haven't been back in four years, babe, So it's hard to know. It's hard to know, it's hard to know how they would be received, and look, without the proper security, they don't feel comfortable. I mean, I think it's been pretty amazing. You haven't seen one photo of those kids' faces. Now they will post a bunch of photos, at least Megan will of the backs of her kids in the back. I have never seen either one of their face, so they're highly protective of their image and they don't want the Papa Razzi to snap a photo, and so far they've been able to manage it, which is pretty incredible.
00:16:09
Speaker 2: Just sad.
00:16:09
Speaker 1: It's so weird that we sit here and I'm not some royal watcher. It's just that's this one said, like it you do? You get so upset. So I hope these boys need to work it out at some point, and I hope he gets the home have a glorious homecoming. He should, even if he wanted to wanted to go live in la like the whole country should be excited that he's coming back, like the homecoming.
00:16:29
Speaker 3: I agree, And I was lucky enough many many, many, many many years to get five minutes with him, to sit down with him and talk with him. He was the most charming lovely, wonderful person that I have ever interviewed. I walked away going, Wow, he's even cooler and kinder and sweeter.
00:16:44
Speaker 4: And it was the more charming than I ever could have imagined.
00:16:48
Speaker 2: Nothing against William, but he was the fun one. He was the one we all liked.
00:16:51
Speaker 3: Hey blast, and I just you know, I wish him well. I wish him and Megan well. It's so sad to see. Everyone's got family drama, everyone's got problems, but this one, unfortunately, is just tough because the whole world is watching. But we're rooting for him and we're rooting for them, so without everyone, we always appreciate you listening to us.
00:17:10
Speaker 4: I'm Amy roebuck On, behalf of TJ. Holmes. We'll talk to you soon.
