And part of that has to do well, it's not just that TSA agents aren't getting paid. We've had some developments and it seems they still don't know exactly when they're gonna get paid, how much they're gonna get paid, and how long that funding is going to be. Is where we are.

Let us tell you where we are now here on this Saturday morning. Yes, the President made the major announcement yesterday that he was going to sign an order and force DHS and TSA to be paid. Where that funding was going to come from. We thought it was the big beautiful bill. Not exactly sure, but the President did go ahead ropes and sign that. That's awesome. But not long after he signed that, the Senate came to an agreement. So they're the ones that have been fighting this whole time and holding up. This whole shutdown has been based on the Senate. They came to a deal, so we thought, oh, the President's order is not even important anymore. They have this deal, just need to get it over to the House. Everybody wants to go home for recess. This is going to be passed, no problem. There has now been a major blow up with this partial shutdown and we do not know when it's going to because the House and House Republicans rejected the bill in the Senate, so you got this so it seemed like robes. We had Republicans and Democrats fighting each other.

And so I was thinking, in my machiavellen mind, could this all be a setup so that President Trump looks like the hero who gets the TSA workers paid because lawmakers couldn't do their jobs. I can't imagine that lawmakers would want to fall on their swords in a midterm election year to let President Trump be the hero. So maybe I'm a little crazy, but that is what it turns out to be in terms of if you're a TSA worker and you don't give a crap about politics, who cares what side of the aisle you're on. If you get your paycheck, whoever got me paid, I'm going to say thank.

Sounds great, here's the problem for Americans, American travelers. I know we're concerned about the TSA agents, but when it comes to American, the everyday American, this is the problem with that at the airports TSA workers waiting for them to show back up. However, now that the shutdown appears, it's going to go at least another two weeks because they're not even in DC working on the damn thing. Correct, So this is right in the middle of everyone's spring break is slightly altered. Whether you've got kids in elementary school, high school, college, it all kind of varies state to state as well, jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

They're hoping again the call out rates do improve, but they've lost some five hundred officers during this shutdown who have trying to find other work, you could assume. And then they say during the last one row up they lost eleven hundred officers who quit. Tis a agents. Those numbers that you have to train these folks for months. This is going to be a problem for a little while. Unfortunately, Now what is the big deal? Why can't the Senate in the House agree? This is they can't. So you got two different bills that have been passed that could end the shutdown, and the two chambers can't agree on the same bill. So the Senate bill. The difference here, essentially, Ropes, is that the House plan funds DHS for eight weeks, meaning it's just we're gonna give ourselves.

We talked to Robes and I we were traveling this week. We went through a couple of the busiest airports in the country that had some of the longest lines, and yes, we saw ICE agents ourselves a bunch of them will tell you what we experienced at the airport with ICE. There was probably some fear when the President said he was going to put ICE agents into the airports to try to help with some of these TSA lines. I think a lot of people might have feared, Oh God, what's going to happen? Is going to be like the streets of Minneapolis.

Speaker 3: You started to get worried, because not that anyone was necessarily protesting at the airports, but people were pissed, People were frustrated, people were angry that they were waiting in these long lines. So there was concern, yes, that some of this anger, some of this emotion that might be going on with passengers, combined that with any feelings they may have about ICE agents, any fear they may have towards or surrounding ICE.

Speaker 3: However, it was very calm and the Ice agents we saw were standing around and getting coffee.

Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, please remind me as far as the headlines go, we haven't seen a bunch of stories about ugly scenes. I think that was when arrest that was made at one airport and a lot of those pictures were taken and it looked like a really ugly scene. But that was the only one I can incident of any kind. Well, it's been fairly calm at the airports. We have to admit though. Ropes. It was one of the first things I was looking for when we got to the airport. This was our first time traveling since the Ice agents have been placed at airports. It was a little jarring to see an Ice agent walking through the airport.

Speaker 3: They have ice is it a vest or the back of their jackets, but you can tell exactly who they are. They are armed, They look like Ice agents that you don't want to mess with. But it didn't there was It didn't evoke an emotional reaction for me. It just was it jumps out, it stands out. You think, wow, that's where we are. Right now, But it didn't look like there was honestly any difference. I don't know what good they're doing, but at least it doesn't seem that they're doing any harm. No news is good news when it comes to Ice agents in the airports. The fact that there haven't been headlines, generally speaking, is actually a good thing.

Speaker 1: And their extra body and maybe they actually are helping. They're extra bodies who are kind of standing around and say, what do you need me to do? And hey, go over here and do this, go over here. I think maybe just having the extra bodies has possibly been helpful. But for us, we were we got off the plane yesterday. Robes I think I pointed it out first. We were a little distance from them, but three Ice agents. I said, Wow, there they are. They were just walking through the terminal. Now we went a little farther down. Robes always has to used bathroom when we get off of a plane, just has to make that stop. Yes, that's me, So she's making the stop. And those same Ice agents at this point we had caught up with and Rogan. I'm not sure how much of it you saw. I was laughing at myself watching these ice agents given everything we have seen in Minneapolis. These are the worst guys in the world. And you know what I saw. They were interacting and being friendly with random passengers, like sharing jokes. They were at this place getting coffee. I actually saw them interact as human beings in a way that we have not seen on television for the past three months.

Speaker 3: You know, I wonder if look, Americans are always much smarter than any politician gives them credit for. But I do think there might be a lot of Americans out there whose heart goes out to ICE agents who have been demonized unfairly as a group instead of maybe the actions of a few individuals in very specific situations who were following orders and yet were demonized for doing their jobs. Most of them are good folks, right, That's just the way things are. So maybe you see people saying nice things to them, or saying, hey, we don't all hate you, or thank you for helping us with crowd control, thank you for being here to serve at a time where it's chao in the airports. Maybe they actually get friendly reactions and interactions with folks, which is not what we hear and read about.

And I thought it was cool. And if you close your eyes, I say, picture a ICE agent. You see the color of the outfit. You might see a mask on, and you picture what a white man. You just do what I say. I saw an ICE agent, black woman. I saw an ICE agent hispanic guy right to see that there is also diversity among that group. And I'm saying, you wouldn't look at an ICE agent that is a black woman the same as you might an ICE agent who was the white man who was all that we saw on TV spreading terror. If you I'm doing air quotes, like everybody can see that, but this I saw it. He was doing air quotes, but it's just a did flies in the face and it was I don't I don't know. I thought it was cool to see them interacting with Americans and passengers in a normal and I guess just nice way.

Speaker 1: Well, folks, all this talking, everything, all this was over ice. ICE has now gone into the airports and frankly not making a whole lot of headlines or issues or anything being caused. We talked to Robes and I we were traveling this week. We went through a couple of the busiest airports in the country that had some of the longest lines, and yes, we saw ICE agents ourselves a bunch of them will tell you what we experienced at the airport with ICE. Stay here, all right, We continue here on Amy and DJ's Broke Slavin made a little joke during that commercial.

Speaker 1: Yeah, it's Saturday morning. This is our Saturday morning. We should be looser on our last Saturday episodes. But yeah, we're talked about what's happening at the airports ICE. There was probably some fear when the President said he was going to put ICE agents into the airports to try to help with some of these TSA lines. I think a lot of people might have feared, Oh God, what's going to happen? Is going to be like the streets of Minneapolis.

Speaker 3: You started to get worried, because not that anyone was necessarily protesting at the airports, but people were pissed, People were frustrated, people were angry that they were waiting in these long lines. So there was concern, yes, that some of this anger, some of this emotion that might be going on with passengers, combined that with any feelings they may have about ICE agents, any fear they may have towards or surrounding ICE.

Speaker 3: However, it was very calm and the Ice agents we saw were standing around and getting coffee.

Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, please remind me as far as the headlines go, we haven't seen a bunch of stories about ugly scenes. I think that was when arrest that was made at one airport and a lot of those pictures were taken and it looked like a really ugly scene. But that was the only one I can incident of any kind. Well, it's been fairly calm at the airports. We have to admit though. Ropes. It was one of the first things I was looking for when we got to the airport. This was our first time traveling since the Ice agents have been placed at airports. It was a little jarring to see an Ice agent walking through the airport.

Speaker 2: It is because they are clearly marked.

Speaker 3: They have ice is it a vest or the back of their jackets, but you can tell exactly who they are. They are armed, They look like Ice agents that you don't want to mess with. But it didn't there was It didn't evoke an emotional reaction for me. It just was it jumps out, it stands out. You think, wow, that's where we are. Right now, But it didn't look like there was honestly any difference. I don't know what good they're doing, but at least it doesn't seem that they're doing any harm. No news is good news when it comes to Ice agents in the airports. The fact that there haven't been headlines, generally speaking, is actually a good thing.

Speaker 1: And their extra body and maybe they actually are helping. They're extra bodies who are kind of standing around and say, what do you need me to do? And hey, go over here and do this, go over here. I think maybe just having the extra bodies has possibly been helpful. But for us, we were we got off the plane yesterday. Robes I think I pointed it out first. We were a little distance from them, but three Ice agents. I said, Wow, there they are. They were just walking through the terminal. Now we went a little farther down. Robes always has to used bathroom when we get off of a plane, just has to make that stop. Yes, that's me, So she's making the stop. And those same Ice agents at this point we had caught up with and Rogan. I'm not sure how much of it you saw. I was laughing at myself watching these ice agents given everything we have seen in Minneapolis. These are the worst guys in the world. And you know what I saw. They were interacting and being friendly with random passengers, like sharing jokes. They were at this place getting coffee. I actually saw them interact as human beings in a way that we have not seen on television for the past three months.

Speaker 3: You know, I wonder if look, Americans are always much smarter than any politician gives them credit for. But I do think there might be a lot of Americans out there whose heart goes out to ICE agents who have been demonized unfairly as a group instead of maybe the actions of a few individuals in very specific situations who were following orders and yet were demonized for doing their jobs. Most of them are good folks, right, That's just the way things are. So maybe you see people saying nice things to them, or saying, hey, we don't all hate you, or thank you for helping us with crowd control, thank you for being here to serve at a time where it's chao in the airports. Maybe they actually get friendly reactions and interactions with folks, which is not what we hear and read about.

Speaker 1: It wasn't just a simple high or smile or past like it was a moment of sharing a joke. They were laughing. It was just warm interaction between Americans or passengers and ICE agents. And I thought it was cool. And if you close your eyes, I say, picture a ICE agent. You see the color of the outfit. You might see a mask on, and you picture what a white man. You just do what I say. I saw an ICE agent, black woman. I saw an ICE agent hispanic guy right to see that there is also diversity among that group. And I'm saying, you wouldn't look at an ICE agent that is a black woman the same as you might an ICE agent who was the white man who was all that we saw on TV spreading terror. If you I'm doing air quotes, like everybody can see that, but this I saw it. He was doing air quotes, but it's just a did flies in the face and it was I don't I don't know. I thought it was cool to see them interacting with Americans and passengers in a normal and I guess just nice way.

Speaker 3: I'm really glad you pointed that out because it is a reminder to us all. Sometimes we get in our heads we read these headlines, we see the worst or these very specific individual videos that are played.

Speaker 3: But when you actually get out and you actually get out of your bubble and you see things for yourself, sometimes it's a whole lot different than what's being depicted in the news.

Speaker 3: And I think that's an important part to remember, like what's actually happened isn't always what's being depicted.
