It is Thursday, January twenty second, and we are standing by but the Oscar nominations, and we really hope Sinners gets nominated for something because as the only damn movie we have seen the past year that in the Oscars race. And with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. We are watching a countdown Robes that says one minute, and so the Oscar nominations are put out, and we're doing it this way, Robes for reasons because frankly, we're gonna watch it the way a lot of people watch it, which is I haven't seen that movie. I need to watch that one. Who's that guy? It's usually how we watch the Oscar nomination.

Speaker 2: Every single year. I feel like when I see the Oscar nominations, I realize how uncultured I am, how I haven't seen so many of the apparently best movies of the year. In fact, sometimes I've seen none of them. So, yes, we're hoping Sinners gets nominated because at least we'll have some skin in the game with something we've seen. We're not going to be able to add a lot of perspective because yeah.

Speaker 2: Well, do you know what happens though? And I think a lot of people are like this. We hear the nominations and then we go and we see the movies, and that's kind of cool. And that's obviously why for a number of reasons, it's a big deal when these movies get nominations, because it means money, it means eyeballs, It makes and breaks careers oftentimes and certainly changes the course of actors lives and careers.

Speaker 1: And so we are they are just getting started here now, so this is gonna be great. So the intro has been done here. I'm not sure who this young lady is, but this isn't the uh. There are two actors who are do you have them in front of you? Who's going to be doing.

Speaker 2: The h Daniel Brooks is going to be doing the nomination or just the New Black I love her from that? And then Lewis Pullman, the son of actor Bill Pullman, who's an actor in his own right. Those two are going to be giving the nominations for us all to hear.

Speaker 1: A ten films they can put up. Now they changed that a couple of years ago to have more of the uh so, no commercial hits can make it into the category. But this year, yes, Sinners is being talked about quite a bit.

Speaker 2: Uh. Absolutely, and we're excited about that because horror movies don't often get the credit that they deserve for being as awesome as they are. So we're always big fans of getting a horror movie nomination.

Speaker 2: Silence of the Lambs? Only yes, I mean there was was it Parasite one that was foreign language and it is a horror movie. It's a little bit. It's not quite your typical horror movie. It was an internet it did in an international film. But yeah, Silence of the Lambs is the one that everyone looks to in terms of just having that worldwide success and the given the proper credit that it was due.

That's a big deal to have an original movie any kind these days, It's all all right, intellectual property, and they just rehash and stuff. I'm not used to seeing this big of a crowd. Speaker 2: Holy they they are on their way to making history. And that was the big headline going into these nominations. Everyone was saying Sinners, Sinners, Sinners, and look it's it's a phenomenal movie. It's not just a horror movie. It's a musical. It's a thriller, it's a drama. It was. It was just an incredible film. And to think that it was an original screenplay, that this wasn't something that was taken from a franchise or taken from a book or taken from another story, that this was a creation by Ryan Coogler. That is pretty impressive.

Speaker 1: We don't see it unfort We don't see it that often in terms of what they release in theaters. Everything is a real I just saw there doing a is it a Sweet Home Alabama like origin story kind of a thing. I'm saying. They keep dealing with the same They're finding ways to use things you're already familiar with. And that's fine, and that works, and that's safe when it comes to business. But Rodes, it's so refreshing to see a story it is somebody just made up out of the head, something we've never seen before, and it works, and it works well, and now it's getting credit for doing so. And this will encourage other studios. This will encourage other artists, artists like Yeah, I love that there is room for it. If you write a damn good story and make a damn good.

Speaker 2: Movie, you get recognized. And one of the other in the Best Supporting Actress A category, Tiana Taylor. We watched her in All Spare. We've been having fun watching that Kim Kardashian show. But she is the reason why. Obviously Leonardo DiCaprio is too. I really want to see one Battle after another. I think we have to have that be our next movie, because that is most likely, at least according to people who know more than we do, going to be Sinner's biggest competition when it comes to Best Picture, and certainly in the acting categories as well. Those two have kind of those two films have kind of been pitted against one another as to who will take home the most. But look, this could be a historic day for Sinners, and we're cheering them on all the way.

But we're waiting for the two actors who were announcing the nominees to come back on screen. But in the meantime, some nominees others have been trickling out in a bunch of other categories and Robes considered the smaller categories. But Sinners are still picking up a bunch of nominations.

Speaker 2: Yes, from my count I've been following, it looks like we've got eight new categories where Sinners has just picked up nominations, including we've gotten Best Lead Actor nominees, So Timothy Chalomey for Marty Supreme, Leonardo DiCaprio, One Battle after Another, Ethan Hawke Blue Moon, Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, and Wagner Mora for the Secret Agent.

Speaker 1: Nobody in there surprised by anything we see in that category. We've been hearing about them and all these for a long time. The best Actress nominee is just being released here now. Is there a surprise in there? The one that jumps out is Kate Hudson.

And Emma Stone for BAGONI we kept. We forgot that. We watched that movie. She was excellent, shaved her head notably for that one.

I know there are other experts out there say yeah, two j But what I'm saying is as all we've been hearing about and talking about during award season, I didn't hear anybody throwing out there F one, F one, keep an eye off for F one. Nope, Brad Pitt movie. But this is what I have wanted to see. They called it the top Gun for racing, Yes, for car racing, So Dad got in there.

Speaker 1: The Best Lead Actor nominee is that we gave you here. It's it's interesting. Wagner Mora was the one who stole the show? Was it a Golden Globes? He won the Best Actor for that movie. He's a foreign language movie. But Wagner Mora is his name, and he's in this category. I guess keep an eye out for him. Timothy Shallomey, he's one of these things. He's going to end up getting one. Don't know if this is his year. We haven't seen Leonardo in one battle after another, but he's here. Great things. Ethan Hawk is just a power he is actor. Damn anything he's in, he's just that dude is wonderful. So I'll watch Blue Moon just because he's in it. And of course Michael B. Jordan played two characters in that movie, by the way, in Centers.

Speaker 2: Ah that honestly, that is going to be such a crazy category to watch. And to your point, because Wagner Mora did steal the show and surprised everyone by getting that Golden globe. But this is you know, I'm trying to see if there's any major snubs or any major in this one, because I feel like most people expected Michael B. Jordan and one we masaka Ryan Coogler, all of that was very expected in terms of what the nominations would unfold, and it doesn't look like there are that many shockers or that many snubbs. I think Kate Hudson was a little bit of a shocker, but I'm a huge fan of her. I've wanted to see Song Sung Blue It looks like such a fun movie, and I haven't brought it up to you, but hey, since yes.

We've seen her take off, and so to be able to combine her acting chops with her singing such a cool, cool story. I'm very excited for her.

One Battle after another we were going to see. We have been close to hitting the button on the streaming service to watch that one. The Scars Guard movie, I have to see now.

Speaker 2: Oh I love Actually, when you get these Best Picture nominees and specific actors who you enjoy or you're excited about watching their performance, I love now to go down the list and really just start watching each of these shows. I want movies. I've wanted to watch Hamnett. I've wanted to watch Marty Supreme, one battle after another, and the ones that weren't on our radar. At least my radar was the Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Train Dreams. I don't know those and F one. I'm totally on board to see.

I know that's a lear reason they're in. We dismiss them sometimes, but this is a I respect the art and I respect respect the background. I respect what they do in the work they put in, and to have this moment on its glitzing, leming, the Hollywood and the exciting. This is a big deal for these folks who have worked their asses off their own lives and they're getting recognized on the biggest possible stage for what they do. Everyone was saying Sinners, Sinners, Sinners, and look it's it's a phenomenal movie. It's not just a horror movie. It's a musical. It's a thriller, it's a drama. It was. And to think that it was an original screenplay, that this wasn't something that was taken from a franchise or taken from a book or taken from another story, that this was a creation by Ryan Coogler. That is pretty impressive.

Everything is a real I just saw there doing a is it a Sweet Home Alabama like origin story kind of a thing. I'm saying. They keep dealing with the same They're finding ways to use things you're already familiar with. And that's fine, and that works, and that's safe when it comes to business. But Rodes, it's so refreshing to see a story it is somebody just made up out of the head, something we've never seen before, and it works, and it works well, and now it's getting credit for doing so. And this will encourage other studios. This will encourage other artists, artists like Yeah, I love that there is room for it. If you write a damn good story and make a damn good.

We've been having fun watching that Kim Kardashian show. But she is the reason why. Obviously Leonardo DiCaprio is too. I really want to see one Battle after another. I think we have to have that be our next movie, because that is most likely, at least according to people who know more than we do, going to be Sinner's biggest competition when it comes to Best Picture, and certainly in the acting categories as well. Those two have kind of those two films have kind of been pitted against one another as to who will take home the most. But look, this could be a historic day for Sinners, and we're cheering them on all the way.

He's a foreign language movie. But Wagner Mora is his name, and he's in this category. I guess keep an eye out for him. Timothy Shallomey, he's one of these things. He's going to end up getting one. Don't know if this is his year. We haven't seen Leonardo in one battle after another, but he's here. Great things. Ethan Hawk is just a power he is actor. Damn anything he's in, he's just that dude is wonderful. So I'll watch Blue Moon just because he's in it. And of course Michael B. Jordan played two characters in that movie, by the way, in Centers.

But this is you know, I'm trying to see if there's any major snubs or any major in this one, because I feel like most people expected Michael B. Jordan and one we masaka Ryan Coogler, all of that was very expected in terms of what the nominations would unfold, and it doesn't look like there are that many shockers or that many snubbs. I think Kate Hudson was a little bit of a shocker, but I'm a huge fan of her. I've wanted to see Song Sung Blue It looks like such a fun movie, and I haven't brought it up to you, but hey, since yes.

I know that's a lear reason they're in. We dismiss them sometimes, but this is a I respect the art and I respect respect the background. All these folks have and I know the work they put in because we've been closer to it in some degree than most get a chance to see. I respect what they do in the work they put in, and to have this moment on its glitzing, leming, the Hollywood and the exciting. This is a big deal for these folks who have worked their asses off their own lives and they're getting recognized on the biggest possible stage for what they do.
