Speaker 1: Hi. I'm Kristin Davis, and I want to know are you a Charlotte? Hi? You guys, Cynthia is bad. I'm here so exciting. We were here last time in New York and we missed you because you were upstate with Gilded Age, Yes, Albany Troy, those kinds of right somewhere up there. I know it was really sad not to have you. So we're really happy that we were here to you know, we have a lot to cover because so many things have happened and we're like, what was Cynthia? Well, can Cynthia tell us about X Y or Z? So I've taken some notes about excellence, I know, but mostly we're here to talk about one of my favorite episodes, which is iHeart New York. Where you have Little Brady is such a great episode, and I had remembered it being really wonderful, but I hadn't really I wasn't that clear on it other than that it was in relationship to nine to eleven. It was right because we had filmed it before, but it aired after because they had held it till winter for some mystery reason, which I think was involving the sopranos, not actually nine to eleven, but they split us up into two seasons, like when they started doing stuff like the season four right exactly. So it's like I think we I think we might have filmed eighteen like so many Wow, isn't that crazy to think about, like compared to how it is now where we're lucky if we could do eight or ten.
00:01:31
Speaker 2: Right, I know, But and yet it's still so privileged as opposed to twenty six or oh my gosh, regular TV.
00:01:37
Speaker 1: Oh, regular TV.
00:01:38
Speaker 2: Right.
00:01:38
Speaker 1: But I mean like when I did Melrose that first season, the only season I did, we did thirty six insanity. That's hard to imagine, right, but it was it was on sets and they wouldn't let you really move, you know what I mean, had.
00:01:54
Speaker 2: Carried they had the shots set up in their minds.
00:01:56
Speaker 1: Exactly, and it was like super close up and whatever, like blocking exactly. Yeah, you can say it, yeah totally, it's fine. It's fine. That's what the show was, you know what I mean? Yeah, our show obviously not right, which is the great part, but also like why we were you know, never sleeping and whatnot. Now, so wait, I have so many things, so many things, So let me try to think Linearly. Do you remember when Michael Patrick told you that Miranda would in fact have a baby.
00:02:27
Speaker 2: I don't really remember, but I mean I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember being shocked, right, I.
00:02:36
Speaker 1: Mean, I was so shocked when they got Charlotte engaged, right, and then there were three? Right?
00:02:43
Speaker 3: Yeah.
00:02:44
Speaker 2: I mean it was like, this is a show about four single women and dating and love and friendship and breakups and bad sex and good sex right right, sexual politics, right.
00:02:57
Speaker 1: You know, yeah, men and women.
00:03:00
Speaker 2: So that was I mean for me, that was the moment when I kind of thought, well, all bets are off. Yea, if they can get Charlotte not only engaged but married, that we're gonna we can break all the rules.
00:03:15
Speaker 1: That's true, And I think that was what was great about it, but also scary, Like I remember when you say that line and then there were three, I was like.
00:03:21
Speaker 2: Oh no, they're gonna marry me off?
00:03:23
Speaker 1: What's gonna happen? Oh my gosh. And also because like it seems kind of sad, there's a sadness and then there were three yeah, yeah, yeah, And I do think, I mean, it's hard for me to remember the you know what I thought about it because I think for me, I'm always so raw raw, right, I'm like, oh, amazing, amazing. And I remember that I thought Charlotte was gonna get pregnant, right, and that they were gonna juxtapose us and our mother ing right techn.
00:03:50
Speaker 2: Me, well, I remember the stuff that Michael Patrick said, right, which was like, after a certain number of seasons, Charlotte is beautiful, Charlotte is warm, Charlotte is brilliant, Charlotte is everything you would want in a partner. So if her number one goal is to get married, you know, she can have some mishaps for a while, but eventually she's got to get married.
00:04:14
Speaker 1: That's a good point, right.
00:04:16
Speaker 2: And so we can't keep making this ridiculous thing that like this is her goal and it's not happening. So the fun thing is obviously the cream pie is like, she gets married and it's a disaster, right, it's not.
00:04:29
Speaker 1: What she hoped for.
00:04:30
Speaker 2: And so for to get Charlotte pregnant and to be a mom that again, that's the number one thing, this number two thing.
00:04:37
Speaker 1: She wants, right, So.
00:04:41
Speaker 2: There is like, but who I mean, I suppose Samantha getting pregnant might have been the most extreme that.
00:04:47
Speaker 1: Would have been crazy, but Miranda pretty equally, so I agree.
00:04:51
Speaker 2: And then the tension between Charlotte and Miranda about like, you're having the life I want to be having, You're having the baby want to be having, you know. But yeah, I mean I was just I guess I was the only one of us that was a mom at that point.
00:05:10
Speaker 1: You absolutely right.
00:05:11
Speaker 2: So I guess in some ways it was because they do steal all this stuff from our lives, right, right, So I guess it would made some sense that like, oh, she knows about being a mother, let's make her a mother. But I think it was more the funness of Miranda, right, not particularly not maternal at all, you know, very confused about her own femininity or lack thereof.
00:05:33
Speaker 1: And also Steve and feeling right absolutely not for you, right, which when I'm rewatching, I'm like, what's going to happen? I mean, I know what's going to happen, but how do you get there? I have no idea.
00:05:43
Speaker 2: Because that was the other thing that Michael Patrick said, in the same way that what I just said about Charlotte was true. Miranda was so cynical and bitter and brittle, and he was like, if we may if we just keep going, she's just gonna break. Yeah, So in instead of keep walking her down the road of archness and cynicism, it's like, let's melter, right, And that's Steve is the person who will melter because he doesn't play games, because he's really into her. He's really upfront about it, and he's not he's not an alpha. He's not in competition with her. It's not it's not that kind of the battle of the sexes, right, he's wearing the pants. Who's the boss, who's the alpha, Maranda's the alpha? Totally buddy knows it, right.
00:06:36
Speaker 1: But did you know, like when so when he said to you, you know you're gonna get pregnant, you're gonna have baby, right, And and I mean, obviously that's like a huge, huge change and it takes you know, it's such an interesting way that it. I mean, I love how he did it. And I remember at the time like really feeling like this is so great and brave that you're going to debate having the baby not having the which makes I'm going to have an abortion, and we all talk about the abortions.
00:07:03
Speaker 2: We've had, right, And that was so great, so great and I think really worked with us on that. I think so, I think so they were in on it in the same way that I guess not listen, but Glad, I guess worked with us on you know, and just like that, the not binary stuff and the trans stuff. So yeah, and and I you know, of course one remembers the things that were pitched, but then we never had time for so what, well do you remember when I when Miranda uh starts dating Captain Crunch. Captain Crunch is the guy at the gym? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, And isn't that the same or I guess maybe it's Mark Foyer Stey the guy who she's running.
00:07:52
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I don't think Mark, Mark Forustin is the running. That's a different guy, right, Okay, well, whoever it is the running, I guess you're gonna because you're going to be the right.
00:08:00
Speaker 2: I'm going to be in the marathon.
00:08:01
Speaker 1: Wasn't shower some such I don't know some such.
00:08:05
Speaker 2: But anyway, so they established that thing that Miranda was going to be in the marathon and she was right, and but that was dropped almost immediately. Do you remember like one episode and then we never hear about it again.
00:08:18
Speaker 1: It.
00:08:19
Speaker 2: So one of the things that was supposed to happen was that Miranda. Part of Miranda's many different pains and about and anxieties and disappointments about being pregnant was she's not going to get to run the marathon. So one of the things that was going to happen was Steve was going to run the marathon for her. Oh and we were all going to be there cheering him, you know that is and I can't remember if he was going to be wearing a picture of her. I don't know, something like that.
00:08:51
Speaker 1: Oh, and we didn't have time.
00:08:52
Speaker 2: No, we didn't have time.
00:08:53
Speaker 1: Too many plots, too many plots, well, for sure, I mean it's packed. Yes, that's the other super impressive thing. Obviously. I know this because I remember just vaguely how many balls were in the air at all times for production and why we were working, you know, twenty four to seven or whatever. But when you watch it, it's just it's so dense.
00:09:11
Speaker 2: It's really so dense and compact and economical.
00:09:15
Speaker 1: And amazing, you know, it's so good. Yeah, But one thing I was thinking when I was rewatching it, So you get pregnant, you debate, and then you have the baby, which is beautifully handled and you know, my upset and whatever. I love it all. Right, When did you know or did you know that you would actually end up with Steve? Like was that part of the plan, that the melting of Miranda?
00:09:37
Speaker 2: You know, you mean end up with Steve in the final like yes, married and right, living together, racing kid together. Yeah, I mean, I you know, I think that because we haven't gotten to the Blair Underwood of it all, no, right yet, So I think that Blair Underwood really gave Steve a run for his David I has money, I mean, no joke, and I think I do think Michael Patrick came to me and asked me.
00:10:10
Speaker 1: What I would like? What what you know? Which which one? Which one? Amazing?
00:10:16
Speaker 3: And I think I probably said Steve.
00:10:19
Speaker 2: But I probably also said Steve because I thought you wanted.
00:10:22
Speaker 1: Me to say Steve.
00:10:23
Speaker 2: Yah yah, and because you know, it's always like biological parents, they want them together and you know.
00:10:31
Speaker 1: I do know so so yeah, so he did. He did have a conversation with me about it, so it really could have gone either way. Well, at least he made it seem that way.
00:10:41
Speaker 2: I'm not sure that is true, maybe because I think for Michael, like Steve was so many things, but also Steve was a chance for Michael to do all his Catholics, I know.
00:10:52
Speaker 1: I mean when we get to the to the baptism, I was like, what I mean, it's a beautiful drink. Yes, it's like really working some stuff the Irish. Yeah, I mean, but it's so beautifully done. But it's also like he really takes such a risk, like once a mirror shows up, it really got I mean, it's so great, but we're in like almost a different world, a different show in such an interesting way.
00:11:23
Speaker 2: Because it's both comedic but also deep and.
00:11:27
Speaker 1: Beautiful but also beautiful like the music. And also it's just so many new characters, which is so much like when you have a baby with someone or where this whole family descends on you. Right, it's very much like that as a viewer, right, because we've never met her and then all.
00:11:43
Speaker 2: Of a sudden, But I mean I feel like, I mean, Trey.
00:11:45
Speaker 1: Obviously has a lot of problems.
00:11:47
Speaker 2: Yes, he's emotionally cut off, he has a hard time getting hard remember that, yes, right, But also he's very nice, yes, and he loves Charlotte. Yes, So they bring in Bunny to really be the problem, right, and Steve, you know, has even fewer problems, yes, and is so sweet. Right you need oh that's true, you need the baggage of the mother.
00:12:16
Speaker 1: In law most definitely to be the difficult things mostly. And also she's just so so opposite Bunny in so many ways, right, which she's really refreshing, right, it's so great. I just think also, like I mean, Bunny for me. And maybe this is because I was involved with it. I don't know if I'm objective, but she was like peppered in in the beginning, you know, and you didn't totally, you weren't sure. You're like, oh, and then it just gets worse and worse, like little bit, my little bit, And then you're like, oh, it's a horrible situation, right right, where's am? Mayor just gets out of the cab, and you know you're just like, whoa, there's gonna be some trouble, right, I mean in a great, great way. And your reaction is so good. But also before that you say to him like, you never had a mother. I've never even heard about your mother. Now the ma, Ma, we got to get the baby baptized from its so good Anyway. That's part of what's so refreshing about rewatching is because when you were in it, it's so there's so much going on and you can't really like realize the beauty of everything that shows up that they create, that Michael creates and all the writers created, so so good. But okay, back to the baby for a second. So as we all know, so you had your first child before we ever started the show.
00:13:28
Speaker 2: Yes, Sam was like I think eight months. I think eight months when we did the pilot. Yeah, like six eight months or maybe. You had like a little picture of Sam on the front of your notebook that you had and I was like, oh, you have.
00:13:39
Speaker 1: A baby, and you were like yeah. And I was like, aren't you worried And you were like, no, you're so I thought, wow, I need to be like this woman. This woman's like got it going on. So I had a picture of Sam on the cover of the MMMM on your notebook. Yeah, it was really cute, little baby pictures, so adorable. And I remember when Sam would come to the trailer and sit in the makeup chairs and everything, and you were just unbothered. You were not worried or anything. It was so amazing.
00:14:07
Speaker 2: You know my my mother had always worked. You know, my mother was the main breadwinner in our family. And you know, one of the great things about my mom, you know, she worked in an office. She worked at Seagrooms building, which I passed on my way here this morning, and she and I would just visit her at work a lot, yeah, or it felt like a lot, yeah. And she would always I could call her at any time of the day with no matter how small the question, and she would almost never sound like hurried.
00:14:37
Speaker 1: And never, So that's a good example.
00:14:40
Speaker 2: Yeah. And also obviously, when you're an actor and a production, particularly one of the leading actors, so many allowances are made for you and your children.
00:14:49
Speaker 1: I mean, I didn't feel that way though I felt like you were. I mean, the only thing I remember at a certain point is that Sarah, Jessica and I would be the ones working all night Friday night if we were in the studio, if we weren't doing a group scene. She would be on one stage and I would be on the other. Because they wanted to try to let you go home. I don't even know that. I mean, I don't know if it was that often, it was just when they could try.
00:15:12
Speaker 2: I remember Sir, Jessica said after she had James Wilkie.
00:15:17
Speaker 1: She said this thing to me.
00:15:19
Speaker 2: She said, you know, before I had a kid, and we would, you know, you would be finished with your work for the day, and you would stay behind at the studio and do remember and she was like, I could never understand why you didn't just go right home.
00:15:33
Speaker 1: Now I I remember that as well also, like and but I remember both of you after your second babies came right when her, when James came and Charlie came for you, and you would just be like both of you puttering around or whatever.
00:15:49
Speaker 2: It was cute, get some get some emails done.
00:15:51
Speaker 1: Right, trying to organize absolutely before before you go home to the other job. Basically, it is impressive how you were able to do it, you know, because it was so intense, like people. And I think about this in terms of my own memory, because I have like such a great memory for so many things, and then at a certain point it's less. And I think it's because it just became so big. Everything became so big, like the work, but then also all the press. Right, do you remember this time of like when the show kind of hit.
00:16:33
Speaker 2: Well, I remember it. I remember the Time magazine cover. That's what I remember.
00:16:38
Speaker 1: Who needs Yeah?
00:16:39
Speaker 2: That was shocking, right, And I remember when people started massively talking to us on.
00:16:44
Speaker 1: The street, right right right, like it was a shift. Like people always say, actors who come on are like, oh, it was the biggest show in New York, and I was like not initially, I think to actors maybe, but not to the world. Right. And then for me, third season is when it like, bumps, im, I don't have Emmy? Is that? When is that? No Golden Globe, Golden Globe, golden golden Globe first? Because then Emmy was shocking, but Emmy wasn't that long after. But like, do you remember our first golden globes?
00:17:12
Speaker 2: No?
00:17:13
Speaker 1: Oh, it's so good. Okay, So we have the pictures and you're, well, it's the last season of Friends. Maybe they're there.
00:17:20
Speaker 2: I remember being there.
00:17:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they're there. Did you know who they were? I did, and Brad Pitt was with them. Oh yes, oh yes, I remember that.
00:17:31
Speaker 2: And I remember they didn't win anything and they were like, we're.
00:17:33
Speaker 1: Out of hair. Ow I don't remember that. That's interesting. I remember it was raining and my hair went like wild. You know, it was nice and then it wasn't not And we didn't have stylists, you know, because it was back in the.
00:17:45
Speaker 2: Day at the Golden Globes.
00:17:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, we didn't have stylists. We just were on our own.
00:17:49
Speaker 2: I don't know, oh, going around to designers yep.
00:17:52
Speaker 1: And like I bought my dress at Richard Tyler. It was in the window and I bought it because I loved it. And Sarah also wore Richard Tyler. And there was another woman at the gold the Globes wearing my dress, not an actress, but like an executive's wife or something. It was red, like the only time I've ever worn a red dress. It was like dark red and it had like kind of a off the shoulder. It was very romantic. It was very mean. It was like black and red, like kind of Victorian inspired ish, you know, but simple compared to later, you know what I mean. And you're wearing like a silver I.
00:18:25
Speaker 2: Were in that silver thing. I can't remember the designer's name, but yeah, and I was pretty skinny at.
00:18:30
Speaker 1: That point you were. I was very skinny. Yes, yeah, I like that outfit. We'll get it. I really liked that. You don't remember when we went and we went up in stage and we're just like, what are we doing here? You don't remember this?
00:18:44
Speaker 2: It was I do kind of remember that. And Cindy was there, and Jenny.
00:18:47
Speaker 1: Was there, everybody, everybody. Michael got his curls, Darren's there. Obviously, there's a pack, a huge pack of us up there. And I remember because they would put the film people in the.
00:18:58
Speaker 2: Bottom right, you know, and then us and the peasants exactly.
00:19:02
Speaker 1: But it was fun because you could watch all the films, watch the film people. Yeah, it was really fun. And then we had to walk through the film people to get up there. And Julian Moore was there, who I was like such a big fan of and she and Bart her husband, were like towards the front, and I felt like she was more excited than we were, Like we were trying to get up there, and she was like levitating like and I was like, oh my gosh, she knows who we are, you know what I mean. And later we talked and they were so sweet, so so sweet, and just the generosity, like the sweetness you know of the industry, kind of embracing us. I remember that right. Wow, Wow, it was fun. And I think we shared her in makeup back then.
00:19:40
Speaker 2: Yes, I'm sure because we didn't have to.
00:19:42
Speaker 1: You know, it wasn't the weren't knowledgeable or whatever. We were like, yeah, do her, then do me. It's so cool. Anyway, I remember that part. I always think that we should somehow have like an episode just about I feel like that was another job.
00:19:57
Speaker 2: Yes, going to the Awards shows.
00:19:58
Speaker 1: You know it like es still a and then it became incredible, but it was also pressure, yes, and it was also they were so long, do you remember. Yes, they're very lengthy. People are like, don't you want to go back to them? And so I'm like, I mean, if I were nominated, of course would be wonderful. But it is long. It's long, but it's fun. It's more fun to watch because you can get up and get food in whatever exact. Anyway, Okay, I'm back, I'm back, all right. These are some of our random questions for that deviated minute from iHeart New York. So, okay, there's an episode where Alan Coulter's directing and you have this cake situation. Yeah, do you remember this that he shot this crazy thing? Oh yeah? And then Michael Patrick was like no, oh yeah, okay, tell us what happened.
00:20:45
Speaker 2: So this was the thing where Miranda's not having any sex and she's compensating for it by eating chocolate cake. And she goes to whatever the name of that fancy French patisserie.
00:20:57
Speaker 1: Yes I can't they can't remember the name either.
00:21:00
Speaker 2: And she goes and buys a slice, you know, every day or a lot, and then she finally decides.
00:21:08
Speaker 1: I'm just gonna buy a whole cake.
00:21:11
Speaker 2: And then it's like seventy dollars for that. So she goes and buys like a Duncan Hines mix and she makes herself a chocolate cake, and then she has a scene where she proceeds to eat peace after peace and she can't stop. And so Alan Colter to your point, when we would shoot for so many hours, it was like two in the morning, and none of like I don't think John Melfie was there. No one was there, none of that, None of the adults, none of the grown ups were there. And Annie had this great idea that it would be like Miranda going mad, and it was. So it was a lot of quick and I wish someone had this footage. I would so look because he cut it together. I think anyway, So there's all this footage of Miranda and she takes a piece, and she takes a piece and she puts it away and she gets it out again and then she starts like you know Renfield, who is Dracula's like.
00:22:16
Speaker 1: You know or whatever, yeah, kind of thing.
00:22:20
Speaker 2: And so she's like, right, oh my god, like eating the cake like rabidly and like grabbing it with her hand. And then finally and she's like got it all over her face. And finally the very end of the scene, she's got cake all over her face, all over her hands, and she slides down the refrigerator door and leaves this chocolate and it's he wanted it to evoke like Janet Lee and Psycho w oh kind of thing. And Michael Patrick saw that and he was like, yes, have you lost your mind?
00:23:05
Speaker 3: How is this possible? And I was like, but it's so great, it's so creative. And he was like, are we going to open up the next episode and she's been institutionalized and we're going to go visit her.
00:23:15
Speaker 1: Here, oh, you know, in the institution because she's lost her mind. So we had to reshoot it. Yeah, I love Alan culture. Yeah, he's just just pushing the boundaries so cute. I do feel like Miranda has such a very fascinating through line of food. Oh, like you remember eating the cookie out of the trash, that's the cake? Is that the cake? Anyway? Isn't there a cookie? There's like a big chocolate chip cookie thing.
00:23:46
Speaker 2: I think she I think Blair Underwood gives her.
00:23:51
Speaker 1: A yes because it says I love you or something. Yes, I'm not there yet, but yes, I think so for Valentine's Day?
00:23:58
Speaker 2: Yes, yes, and she eats it not only because it's delicious, but she wants to make it not have happened because she doesn't think that she loves him, so she's trying to eat it to make it go away.
00:24:12
Speaker 1: Got it? That's interesting. I knew there was something in strange. And I remember that time you were eating the salad in the coffee shop and they were like, and had they written it in that it was in your teeth or or did you just do it? And then they were like, more do you remember this? And I was like, it's too much? Oh do you mean with the braces? Maybe it's the braces the brace are there? Multiple? Is there? Like a salad dressing one and then like a in your teeth. One.
00:24:37
Speaker 2: So the salad right there's there's there's a lot of meat eating. You know I'm eating eat yes, but no with the with the with the the braces, Ma Marita has the braces.
00:24:48
Speaker 1: It's it's olives.
00:24:49
Speaker 2: In her teeth and they had to and they had to. I guess it must have been makeup. I was thinking it was props. It can't be props make up. Like they would take these bits of olive and like like yeah, I.
00:25:03
Speaker 1: Stick them in there, and then I would try not to show it, not to and not to knock about the fall I got it, you know. Wow, wow. I love all that stuff. And then there's also when you're your order at the Chinese restaurant yea, and they you know, and you have shame about it, right, Like, I feel like there's a through line of her eating stuff which I like very much.
00:25:24
Speaker 2: Food.
00:25:24
Speaker 1: We could probably think of others, but I can't. Yeah, I think it's really good, and I feel like it's just so intensely relatable and in a way it seems like all of us should have had. You mean, like for me, there's something about single women and food.
00:25:38
Speaker 2: It's also something about like Miranda and her speed.
00:25:43
Speaker 1: Yeah.
00:25:44
Speaker 2: Right, everything she does she does sort of aggressively.
00:25:47
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yes, so true.
00:25:50
Speaker 2: Yes right, or even that very first one in the pilot when she's like, you know, yes, with the chicken at the diet, with the chicken at the deli, right, the tongs, Yes, and.
00:26:00
Speaker 1: You're sitting eating outside in your sneakers or whatever. Oh it's so cute. Oh my god, yes, I do. I really feel we should compile those and look at them. Yeah. I like it. I think it's really good. But no, one never makes a big fuss about it. It's just interesting. It's like private moments also good private single woman private moment. But then, oh my god, I thought of a carry one Carrie talks about her secret single behavior is like she puts jam on crackers and eats them standing up. It's really good in her socks or something. Yes, totally in her kitchen. Definitely, it's adorable, and I think this is I love this for us. Okay, next one, do you remember Timothy Gibbs plays the hot cop and you have sex with them you think he is too sexy for you? Yes, and you drink a lot and there was a scene where you throw up on him. Yes, And they cut it. Yes, you remember all.
00:26:51
Speaker 2: This, Yes, I remember all of it, and I think this is Michael Patrick directing.
00:26:57
Speaker 1: I feel like yeah, so I think so.
00:26:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, so right, so the ideas right, she gets so right, and she says, I may not be much to look at or something, but I'm I'm I'm amazing in bed or something. She's pulling his like yeahs off his belt and stuff. And then right, she's too much and she's in bed and she's on top of him and she's having yes, yes, and then you know mid that she kind of obviously starts to feel really like she's going to throw up, and right, and she stops and and what they had was so the camera was it was in profile, and the camera was over here, and he was down there and I was up here, and they had a tube over on the other side where the camera hopefully couldn't see it, and they had filled it with like super what I horrible, like white chunky suit, Oh, terrible, horrible. And so she stops and then she has a thing and then she goes like and she just opens her mouth and it's so it's not just vomit, it's projectile. It goes no right on him sort of. I mean it eventually winds up on him, but just kind of.
00:28:23
Speaker 1: Like out.
00:28:25
Speaker 2: And and then there's a thing that after that happens. I think we then we do a shot on her face of her and she's got like a little like honey and like a little bit of like I think they put little nuts, little like chopped up nuts horrible, and then maybe she sort.
00:28:49
Speaker 1: Of passes out on him on top of him, oh dear.
00:28:53
Speaker 2: And I always had thought I always had been told or got the impression that they decided not to include that scene because it was too humiliating for Miranda.
00:29:06
Speaker 1: Absolutely, I think that's why.
00:29:08
Speaker 2: But I was speaking about it with Michael Patrick not that long ago, and he said, no, that's not why. It was that they could you could see the tube and they could never get it really so that you couldn't see the tube.
00:29:24
Speaker 1: I thought it was all that it was just too much. I don't know, Wow, it was probably maybe a combination. I also feel like whenever we would try to do something like special effectie, Yeah, we didn't really have time back in the day, you know what I mean, Like we were always just trying to like move on and rush and whatever. So I've heard that shocked, yes, totally McGuire, right, yeah, but I also feel like it does sound really gross and like a lot really gross, like it really needs shocking, but it was, it was, it was shocking, and maybe it was more shocking than funny. Yeah, you know it could cross the line, right because then he leaves her the note right, that's terrible, terrible, And then it did allow Sir Jessica to throw up as Carrie in and just like that, he just saved his vomit story for John Tenny. They did remember that on the street, yeah, yeah, yeah, and that was it was not in a sex much exactly, and it was so much better food poison, right, so much better, so much better. Or I think they've been tricking a lot of whatever or something, so yeah, totally anyway, that that is bizarre. That is so bizarre. All right, you have a lot Okay, do you remember when you Miranda are buying your apartment and you have to keep saying just me, just me, remember this. I really enjoyed that.
00:30:59
Speaker 2: I remember Miranda more single boxes than a guy to collogist exactly.
00:31:04
Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a whole thing. And we talked to Jenny and Cindy both about this because both of them it's so interesting to hear what parts of their lives they were putting in right, right, And I think Jenny told us that now single women like are the possibly biggest new you know group of houseing right something great. It's exciting, but of course back then not necessarily true. Right And you know, even me when I go to buy my house, you know, there's all the whole section for the other person. You have to just be like and a and a and a and a. It was just like at school, you know, they want to be like, well, where's your you know, divorced person or whatever it is? R A and A and a. It's very hard. It never goes away. Yeah, really annoying. But I love I don't think I realized at the time, how you know, and pervasive, right is?
00:31:57
Speaker 2: And I think right, and I think I think you know a lot of women who are kind of I mean, I think maybe.
00:32:05
Speaker 1: This is less so now, hopefully it's less so now.
00:32:07
Speaker 2: But buying an apartment on your own, you know, does it preclude like if a guy you know, as it's like a form of a virgin hood, you know what I mean, It's like I'm waiting so we can buy a place together, right, whoever you are, I mean, yeah, I I haven't even met yet, right.
00:32:29
Speaker 1: But also like now, I don't even know if people even think that, right, because it's so kind of out of people's grass grass, Like it's sad and kind of hard. I think back then, certainly, like in a Charlotte mentality, right, like you wouldn't buy because that is supposed to be what you're.
00:32:46
Speaker 2: Right, So it's like you wouldn't open a door for yourself.
00:32:48
Speaker 1: Well, I totally would open a door for myself. But yes, I know what you're saying, but like the whole weird traditional whatever, yeah, yeah, but I think also like.
00:32:57
Speaker 2: But for Miranda, I think it was never it was so bury ye, right, because she did have this thing. She didn't have that she wasn't like waiting for a guy about the apartment, but she did have a thing like now I'm moving on with my life, I'm buying this. Am I always going to be just me in my apartment? Am I going to die alone? And no one's gonna.
00:33:15
Speaker 1: Find and that cat's going to eat? Yeah? I know that was a really good storyline because listen, it's real. Yeah, I mean, I think these things and it's not like I'm upset or whatever to be single, but I am like.
00:33:30
Speaker 2: I gotta keep my children here forever.
00:33:33
Speaker 1: And I might, I might, We'll see. But it is super interesting to think about because as much as you think that you are not tied to those ideas right there somewhere, Yeah, they are in there somewhere for sure. All right, now, you have a lot of crazy interesting sex scenes for a while, obviously before this part that we're at. But like, I can't believe this list I'm about to read. But the licking of.
00:34:00
Speaker 2: The butt, well, I think maybe that was the marathon guy, yes, because.
00:34:05
Speaker 1: He didn't shower. The people were upset with me because they were like, why didn't you talk about that he didn't because you guys are running and then you go home and have sex and everybody's like, they didn't shower, And I'm like, I don't think that was what was happening for Miranda. No, I don't think that was what was happening for Miranda. Do you think it was what was happening? Yes, exactly, and and yes, I think you're absolutely right that is the same dude. Yes, yes, And then also the sinful shower, which I think is Hickey.
00:34:29
Speaker 2: Right, Yes, Hickey so good.
00:34:31
Speaker 1: Yes, we had Hickey on. It was really fun. And he's marathon man. He was marathon captain, Crunch marathon man. There you go, There you go. A Catholic guy, Catholic guy exactly. You had a lot of guy guy. I had a lot of guys. I had the guy who liked to be spanked but wouldn't admit it. Oh right, right, Oh yeah, I had the guy who watched porn while we were having sex. Right, that was weird.
00:34:54
Speaker 2: Yes, I just Rob Rob Campbell. I just worked with him again, No way I did.
00:34:58
Speaker 1: Was he where was he? What did he do?
00:35:00
Speaker 2: He was playing Vanderbilt I think or Carnegie.
00:35:06
Speaker 1: I can't remember if he was Vanderbilt. That's amazing. Oh that is so cute. Did you guys reminiscence? We did? I yes, yes, When you were you know, I remember like, it's it's nice to think about us being here and casting all these actors that you know, we're theater actors or whatever I mean. And I remember you would sometimes have ideas like they would say like, oh this guy, that guy totally like how involved were you in that side of it.
00:35:33
Speaker 2: I mean I've always loved Like when I was in you know, high school, I used to cast my friends as the Greek gods. Oh do you know what I mean? Yeah, I mean it's one of the one of the fun things is like there's a juicy part, right, I do that on you know, Gilded Age, when there's a you know part coming.
00:35:51
Speaker 1: I mean, it's always so fun. It's so fun. Yeah. Yeah, Do you ever want to direct Guilded Age?
00:35:57
Speaker 2: I would, I would, but I don't think it's going to happen, but I would love that.
00:36:02
Speaker 1: But yeah, I think you'd be so good. It's a big, big show, good glory, good lord, so many people. Yes, now, I think you're a really good director. Though, I just want to be on record, it was so much fun to be directed. It was good. I loved it.
00:36:18
Speaker 2: I loved it.
00:36:19
Speaker 1: It was so good. I think you think like a director.
00:36:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you know, because I feel like, you know, unlike you, I never went to drama school.
00:36:27
Speaker 1: But like my mother, well, my mother, my mother, my mother.
00:36:32
Speaker 2: Was my my only really acting teacher, and she was great.
00:36:37
Speaker 1: But I think actually because she had.
00:36:39
Speaker 2: Tried to be an actress and had not succeeded. But I think she was also really more of a director, do you know what I mean? And that's how she sort of trained me. You know, I'm very not very method, you know what I mean. It's like I have an idea of I mean, I guess I have an idea of how it should feel, but I have an idea of how it should be, and then I try and execute it.
00:37:00
Speaker 1: Thing. I mean, isn't that what we all do really right? I guess the idea is like how do you do that right? So there's different ways people are trying to get right it would feel. But I think for me, one of the things that you have that I don't have, because I think you go to the theater so much, and you have always your whole entire life, and your mom would go to the theater like every night of the week if you could, right, if you didn't have other things or whatever. Your eye, like your eye in terms of looking at something and analyzing it is very very well.
00:37:33
Speaker 2: She would always you know, she would always say that that It's like when there's a perfect piece of art, like Hamilton.
00:37:40
Speaker 1: Hamilton is perfect, yes.
00:37:41
Speaker 2: And you just go and see it or listen to it. And you let it wash over you and you marvel at it, and you have no idea how this perfect thing came into being, whereas you when you go see something that's like either terrible or hopefully not terrible, but like not great, not quite there, it's like an autopsy. It's like you can see all like you, like Hamilton is seamless. You can't see how it was created. But when something isn't really working, you can see the spine, and you can see the muscles, and you can see the veins, and you can see how it's constructed, and you see, yeah, this is what they should have done here, or maybe I don't even know exactly what they should have done, but they shouldn't have done that. And that's what she and I would do, and we would go to the theater. We wouldn't just go. We would then we would have a post mortem and figure out really interesting did wrong?
00:38:35
Speaker 1: And I think, like, if I think about how you and I would respond as we were going through our whole long journey. You know, if I would get a script, I would just be like I love it, and you would be like, oh, I you know this or that? Like sometimes we even let's say I didn't love it, right, like that one thing that I can't stand where the guy shouts obscenities at me, and I was like, I don't want to do it. I'm going to go ask them to change it. And you were like, no, it's really funny. I'm like, oh, I hate it. I still hate it. I still hate it. I still hate it, but it is funny. I can also see now it is really funny and also perfect for Charlotte. Obviously, I just obviously did not enjoy it for obvious reasons, right, But I think sometimes it's because I'm also too close to it. But you are able to kind of pull back and look at things and how they fit together together, which I think is super fascinating. That's why I also think like, your director's eye is so good, because that's what a director needs to be able to do. And they would say to me, do you want director, I'd be like no, because Number One, I don't want to answer questions all day to people I have to write every department. I would just want to talk to the actors. That's all I care about, you know. I don't necessarily think about moving the camera and the picture and the energy of the scene up and down whatever, you know what I'm saying. I think about it in the moment, but I don't go back so well though, I'm trying to do that more because as we have gone out into the world whatever, I sometimes think, like, well, what was Cynthia think about this? Like if I read a script, you know, And sometimes I might call you and ask you. I don't know, but like, you know, it's interesting to try to think, like I'm gonna put my Cynthia hat on and look at this, like what does this need?
00:40:12
Speaker 4: You know?
00:40:12
Speaker 1: Which is good?
00:40:13
Speaker 2: I think, yes, right? I mean they always say that, you know, what would Jesus do? And I have people in my life, you know, you included, like in certain areas like I think, I don't know how to deal with the situation. But I'll pretend to be Kristen. I'll pretend to be Sarah, I'll pretend to be my friend Josie. I'll pretend to be whoever. Like one time I took a many years ago, I took.
00:40:35
Speaker 1: A singing lesson.
00:40:37
Speaker 2: I remember this phase right, and well not that, but even before that, I took one singing lesson from a guy on the Upper West Side, and he was like, you're terrible, and he was like, I think you're not breathing around like he was like, he was very pessimistic, uh huh. And he didn't know kind of what to do with me, and he said he finally said, who do you like?
00:40:59
Speaker 1: How they sing you like?
00:41:00
Speaker 2: And I was like, I like Julie Andrews and it was like, pretend you're Julie Andrews and I did it and he was like, well that was better.
00:41:09
Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that's really interesting.
00:41:11
Speaker 2: I mean, I think it can really it's good work.
00:41:14
Speaker 1: That's really interesting. I remember this one time we were sitting on set. It reminds me of this. We're sitting on set and someone called me and wanted something from me. I don't exactly remember what it was. And I was like, uh yeah, okay, yeah, you know whatever. I was like people pleasing, right, And I hung up and you were like what was that? And I was like, oh, this person was this thing and I don't really want to do but I don't know what to say. You were like, this is what you're going to say next time, you're going to say. Let me think about that. I was like, that's so good. It is a good thing. I can say that like I need a permission. You know.
00:41:50
Speaker 2: I'm not always good at saying that, but it is a good thing to try and be in the moment and to write. It's a version of saying when somebody references something that they think you would should know and you're like, I'm sorry, I don't know who that is, right totally, It's like I have to you know, right, I have to because.
00:42:08
Speaker 1: Like, whatever your impulse is in the moment is not necessarily your true impulse. It's a peep for me, a people pleasing moment, right. But very clearly you could tell I didn't want to say yes to whatever I was saying yes to, you know, and I was like, yes, I have to, like channel Cynthia.
00:42:23
Speaker 2: It's like if you're in a dressing room at a store, and you know, sometimes you try on something, you're like, I'm going to get this.
00:42:29
Speaker 1: But if you're not like try and walk away, yeah, you know what I mean, you feel like, oh, I should get it.
00:42:36
Speaker 2: You know. It's sort of like oh I should eat the food they've given me at a dinner party.
00:42:40
Speaker 1: You know. Yeah. I don't do any of those things, which is interesting. I don't try on clothes in a dressing room anymore, because I've had just too many fittings and I can't stand it. Oh right, remind you of a fitting, right, and don't. I don't care. I want to order it and try it on at home and send it back.
00:42:53
Speaker 2: Right.
00:42:53
Speaker 1: It's better for me, right because there's no one there pushing you either, right, Like, I don't want anyone looking at it telling me yester orda.
00:43:00
Speaker 2: And there is something Actually, if you order something and then send it back, you're like, I could get seventy nine dollars back.
00:43:08
Speaker 1: It's like you've gotten money. In fact, you spent money, but you don't think about that. Totally true. Like I love to see when they put the positive on your credit card. It's a great feeling. But then also I also don't eat things. I don't want to eat, Like it's interesting what things because I'm all picky, you know what I mean. But I'll move them around and act like I will do that. I will do that. I know what. It's interesting to think about those things. Okaya, back to your weird sex things. I might have gone through all the ones I remember or whatever. The porn, yeah, yeah, this is on here. The porn was apparently. Yeah, Oh, here's a different thing I wanted to ask you about because I am pretty sure. So you have Brady and then they have there's there's two kind of scary immediate baby things. One is that you get the poopy on your forehead? Do you remember this? Right? Horrifying? And Steve is there and he's so adorable and he does want to tell me or something. No, he tells you pretty quick because you're you're like busy. It's when Steve. It's a very interesting time. Steve's like hanging around, right, but you're not together, right, And at one point he says, you know that he has he's seeing someone else, don't worry, right, So he thinks that you're because you're like trying to push him away, you know, but really you realize you're in love with him, you say, I mean this is when I go like, I don't know what's going to happen. I don't know what's going to happen. I know what happens eventually, right, but I also know players coming right, what's happening, Like, it's a very interesting tightrope that they created for you, right.
00:44:32
Speaker 2: I don't think Steve does it intentionally I think he's trying to be a good soldier and do what Miranda wants him to do and date other people and not be attached and not y we're married now because we have a baby. But I think Miranda really needs that, she needs him to be unavailable for a while, because that's the problem with Steve. Right, that was obviously the problem with Skipper. He was like always available. I mean there were other problems, right, but but right, I mean I think Morana and needed to, you know, a little taste of like if Steve wasn't always at her back and call right and Steve had other options, right.
00:45:09
Speaker 1: Oh, that's interesting. There's also a scene where before Brady comes where you're putting together the crib but he's just sitting there, which is so funny because I have to put cribs together, you know what I mean, And it's hard. It's so hard, and you've got him reading the directions and you're mean to him like I can't say that, and he's like, yes, it says, you know, the A screw in the b hole whatever, And you're like, yeah, it to me, and you're like, oh, yeah, it does say that.
00:45:45
Speaker 2: First I say it in a patronizing way. No, it says the A said and the B said, And oh that's what's totally she's going to school him.
00:45:53
Speaker 1: First, right, definitely.
00:45:55
Speaker 2: And also you get the sense that maybe if she just let Steve put the crib together, he could probably do it with less stress and wear and tear. Yes, but she's but she's both like I'm a single mom, I'm gonna do this right, and she's also like got to be the leader. Yes, so true, got to be the leader.
00:46:16
Speaker 1: It's so true. But there is a weird thing that happens when I'm watching him, where on the one hand, I think, oh, he probably could do that, and then I'm like, maybe he couldn't, because you know when when you guys are together before the baby and he's like a child when he's like we should have a baby, but he's also he is the baby, right. He did that so believably that I'm like, oh, yeah, I know he is like at sushi or yes, you go out and he's and there's a baby there and you're like no, and he's like yes, but then he and he wants the puppy. It's like there's a whole It's very well done. It's also interesting because when I'm watching it. The reason I asked about when you knew if that Steve was gonna stare that you were gonna have his baby is because sometimes when I'm watching, I feel like they don't know, meaning the writers haven't made a plan yet, right, like true, right, they made a plan for that season or whatever. Do you know what I mean? Which that he would want a baby and you would be like, well, you are the baby, you know, which seemed like you will say that to him. I don't know if you split it out, but it's pretty close, but maybe I say it to you, guys. I know, I do think you might get mad at him and say, like, you know, I can't baby, I have to take care of you or whatever. It seems like it. But this is before he has the bar and whatnot? Right right, he's just like a bartender and he stays up all night and you don't have any ambition, no, And you can kind of see her point, you know, which is I think what they do so well right because it's both true and then not true. He is amazing and he is devoted to you kick in the butt and you give him one which is good, which is good. But at this point then he's like he's around around a round. You fall in love with him again emotionally, I think, because he probably you know, is around to help you with the baby, but you're he's not as needy exactly, he's not as need. But then also you're you know, it's hard to have a baby and not you know, date or whatever, right, but you're gonna try. It's interesting me rewatching it now, it's really interesting.
00:48:12
Speaker 2: I also think just so much of Miranda's thing about guys, right her, like really, you know, like you're just for sex, that's it kind of thing. I think she has a we don't know anything about Miranda's parents, We don't know about anything about any of our parents, right, But I think she has this fear, this deep seated fear that if I'm with a guy who's like my guy, you know, married or not, but like my guy, and we're having raising a child, like I'm going to be in a subservient position, he's going to be the boss, right, Right, And then when she starts parenting with Steve, right, he's neither he's neither trying to be the boss, nor is he a dormat And so he's somehow just sort of instinctively finds that sweet spot that it like unlocks her heart and unlocks the possibility of like being partnered.
00:49:09
Speaker 1: Right, that's super interesting. Yeah, I'm gonna have to watch it all, I mean, because, as I said, when I'm watching, I'm like, what, how do they like they navigate this right? Because you can see all the pieces, you know, which is what's so great about it. Right now, you guys have I think a great chemistry, which yeah, at the time I didn't really realize, ye know what I mean. Yeah, yeah, I was like perplexed. I remember at the time, I was like perplexed by the whole thing because we weren't always there, you know, when you're working right, like together, you guys would be.
00:49:35
Speaker 2: It's it's also it's just so nice and refreshing to have a working class guy.
00:49:44
Speaker 1: Yeah, especially in world Yeah.
00:49:46
Speaker 2: Right, it's like we have so many blue bloods and high powered and.
00:49:52
Speaker 1: You know what I mean, I do, I do know what you mean. It's like us in the clothes and the shoes.
00:49:56
Speaker 2: Like, right, And it's both nice because it's different, yeah, refreshing. Yeah, And it's also it's nice because it feels real yeah, and our show is so much a show of contrast, right. I was thinking about when we were talking about the Catholic stuff with Brady, with with Steve and his family, it's like showing the baggage or whatever, the tropes that come along with the Irish family in the same way that Trey was like showing all the tropes and the foibles that come around.
00:50:31
Speaker 1: The Gulf with the Super Wasp.
00:50:34
Speaker 4: Yeah.
00:50:34
Speaker 1: Yeah, totally family. But it's it's it's definitely in some ways the cliche. But also it's just so elected. Like and Mirah, I mean, she's just amazing, Like it's stunning, Like she always.
00:50:52
Speaker 2: Comes from a like that's the thing. She's such a good actress. And Mira, and she always comes from a comic place. But there is so much pathos.
00:51:00
Speaker 1: So under so much is just great, so incredible. It's so good. We're so lucky we got her. Yeah, so good. We are so good and I can't wait to see more. I'm like I had forgotten about all of this. Yeah, like this is why people love to rewatch our show.
00:51:18
Speaker 2: And I remember when we were casting Neil Cunningham to be the grown up Brady, I was reading with different actors and right, and there were there were different actors that we were considering, many of whom were great. And I remember Michael Patrick and I told you about this one guy, and it was like, let's take him out of the mix, because we already have I would think I was thinking about LTW Sons. It was like, we already have the Harry Potter, we already have the chosen you know, King Arthur, You're right, we need a Ron Weasley. Interesting, we need that kid to which which is Neil so great? You know, we need a kid who seems like a New York kid, not a private school kid.
00:52:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, need that.
00:52:11
Speaker 2: We need that energy because yes, Miranda and Steve's kid is gonna you.
00:52:16
Speaker 1: Know, definitely. He was so perfect, perfect, so perfect and so good. I know. It's crazy sometimes to think about the whole trajectory trajectory of all of it, isn't it like who would have ever ever thought in a million hundred years? Yeah, you know, yeah, it's crazy and good. All right, let's see. Okay, So so this this question I have is about the breastfeeding. So there's like the poopy on the forehead and then you breastfeed, and I'm pretty sure it was like a like a stand in boob or what we had.
00:52:49
Speaker 2: We had two things okay, we had a prosthetic breast or breast wow, too prosthetic, and they put them on you, they put them on me okay, and they they molded them and they put them on me. And then I think there was a lot of time with makeup blending them.
00:53:10
Speaker 1: Yeah stuff. Oh I can't.
00:53:11
Speaker 2: But then we had an actual nursing mom, got it, who came in for when we need to see a baby literally because a baby can't nurse on these prosthetics. No, that would be like we couldn't even get the baby to nurse, much less it really destroy them.
00:53:25
Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, that would be really weird. Okay, so you had the lady and then you had the prosthetics, but you did have to wear the prosthetics around. Yes, oh my, I don't remember that at.
00:53:35
Speaker 2: All, well only in the only when there's reviews.
00:53:37
Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, and that's not that often, right, I think just that once Oh got I got it?
00:53:41
Speaker 2: You didn't just to cut it once when it comes over and she's uncomfortable.
00:53:46
Speaker 1: Got it, got it, got it, got it, got it, got it? Got it? Okay, that's interesting.
00:53:49
Speaker 2: It's not like I'm wearing them under my clothes.
00:53:51
Speaker 1: Got it now? And that's the other thing. And I mean, this is not really that important. It's just like I think about it when I'm watching. Because when we come back and we do the fifth season, which is right. I heart New York ends the fourth season, right. We filmed it before nine to eleven, then nine to eleven happened, then it airs, and I talked to Michael Patrick about it because he did tweak the voiceover at the end. Remember the leaf fall. Yes, And the episode is about the weather changing, and also Big moves to Napa, which I had fully forgotten. Really yeah, I don't know. I remember moving to Paris more than I remember, but you don't remember the line if you're tired, you don't take a nap. You take a nap, but you don't move to Nap. I did not remember the line. Wow, it's weird the things that stay and the things that go, you know what I mean. But it was great because I got to kind of relive the episode like fresh, and it's so interesting and so good, and Chris is like at his wonderful top, the two of them together, the two of them together. My god, oh my god, that's so beautiful. And the jeans right, and that red wall, right, the red wall. Do you remember how it used to be beige.
00:55:03
Speaker 2: I'm like, thank god, that man, he paints it. Yes, he's trying to he's trying to, you know, get outside the box.
00:55:12
Speaker 1: He's trying to.
00:55:13
Speaker 2: See a little more interesting.
00:55:14
Speaker 1: He's trying to just see Wall Street, you know. Yes, and it works, it's better.
00:55:18
Speaker 2: But you know, it's funny because I just recently did the Wesley Morris Cannonball podcast, right, and we talked about three New York movies, and he picked one and I picked two. And one of the movies that I picked was Breakfast to Tiffany Ah, and I said it was I also picked the taking Pellom one two three, and I was like, I wanted maximum contrast, gritty.
00:55:41
Speaker 1: Versus totally beautiful, beautiful, high end, you know.
00:55:46
Speaker 2: But I said, I also picked it, not that we talked about sex in the City, but I picked it because I was like, it's hard for me to imagine if there would be a sex in the city had there not been.
00:55:57
Speaker 1: At Breakfast to Tiffany's.
00:55:58
Speaker 2: Absolutely right, and there's so many references and there are so many overt and covert references from the very pilot. You know, no one has breakfast, no one has affairs to No one has breakfast at Tiffany's.
00:56:10
Speaker 1: No one has affairs to.
00:56:10
Speaker 2: Remember, we have breakfast at six am, and affairs we try to forget as quickly as possible, right, right, I forgot about that. Yeah, And and and there are many and like Amalita I think is very holly go lightly even I think she has that cigarette.
00:56:24
Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, I remember. And there are a lot of different Remember when I go to the window with Kyle of Tiffany's. They wouldn't let us film in Tiffany's, but I put my hair up in like a casual upd do you know what I mean? A scene And we're in the window Tiffany's or the ring like so many but we don't say it, you know, it's just there.
00:56:44
Speaker 2: And and she's so holly golightly, so lightly and so having right having them dance to Moon River.
00:56:52
Speaker 1: It's beautiful. It's so beautiful and good.
00:56:57
Speaker 2: And I wonder I was because I rewatch. Yeah, we're talking to you, and I just wonder. It's such a funny thing. When I was a kid. I thought they were saying not two drifters, but two twisters, because having them twist to that song is so like off kilter and great. Yes, but I thought that's the kind of detail that somebody in the writer's room must have thought that absolutely, because it would be very hard to just come up with you casually. It must be agree we should ask Michael Patrick.
00:57:33
Speaker 1: That's going to be on the list for Michael Patrick. Also because it's a slow twist and it makes it so sensual, so sensual and interesting for him to.
00:57:42
Speaker 2: Do, and it's like right, and it's like, speaking of Harry Potter, it's kind of like that moment when Harry and Hermione danced together anyway, I don't know, okay, but but it's funny because it's it is very sensual, but it is also very like they're not for formal. Yeah, it's not touching, it's sort of it's it's like it's like seductive, right, it's safe.
00:58:07
Speaker 1: Which is kind of interesting because that's kind of where they are, which I think is what because for me, also, rewatching their whole up and down of the big carry thing is crazy. I don't remember all this up and down and he's so profoundly unlikable so often. Yes, but like remember when he goes out with the actress. The character goes out with the actress and I can call her but she can, yes, yes, And then he goes up to Aiden's mountain house and they get in the fight in the country house. I mean, I'm just like, she can never look at Big again. Of course I obviously know she's going to, but like it's like, ew, do you know what I mean? And the way that they're able to get them back, it's fascinating as a couple, Yes, as you even want them to be back. Because in this episode, because he's moving to Napa, which again I had totally forgotten, and Carrie doesn't know, which is so interesting, she just calls him because she's lonely and the weather's changing, which I'm like, Carrie, no, but you know I'm not there, and she calls him and then she goes over with the pizza, which is one of the things that they cut together in the memes of like Carrie's too needy and pick me. Have you ever seen those things?
00:59:13
Speaker 4: No?
00:59:13
Speaker 1: But I can imagine and I for me, what I see when I watch that is she's in the comedy. That's all I see. Like, she's in a comedy, do you know what I mean? She's trying to be funny, right, Like, she's called him, she's come over, she's brought a pizza. She's just being cute when he opens the door, Like, why are you gonna kill her for that? You know what I'm saying. But then she sees the apartment's empty, and she's like, wait, what's going on? And he's like, oh, yeah, I'm moving it up. And she's like, yeah, you weren't gonna tell me, Like it's fascinating writing, it's so good, but.
00:59:44
Speaker 2: It's also don't you think it's all so? I'm not only interested in you because you're a big, rich guy who can take me out to a fancy dinner. I'm for the taking pizza at home. No must, no fuss.
00:59:58
Speaker 1: Absolutely, oh absolutely, I mean in part you know that he is like the.
01:00:06
Speaker 2: Anti big he is one hundred and I don't know if I ever told you this. When I went on when Matt lower was still on the Today Show.
01:00:15
Speaker 1: Can I tell you this? No?
01:00:17
Speaker 2: I went on there character about the show. I assume it was about the show, or maybe it was about some other project. But you know, they always bring up six I do know, yes, And in a commercial break, he went off on Steve what and how much he hates Steve. I mean, it was like insane and it was so, it was so it was so out of left field.
01:00:42
Speaker 1: It was so but also it was like.
01:00:48
Speaker 4: Steve's lack of alphaness and lack of dominance and lack of sort of male assertiveness. What you say, I said, I don't agree. I don't I'm not really a I'm not in the big camp.
01:01:02
Speaker 2: I think Steve is like a sexy, loving guy, and I think Miranda is very lucky to have him.
01:01:09
Speaker 1: Oh that is nice. That's good. That's good. Wow, that is scary scary? All right, thank you, Cynthia. That was fun. We will be back with Cynthia later this week. We're going to recap iHeart New York, which is season four, episode eighteen. It originally aired on February tenth, two thousand and two, and it is when Miranda gives birth to Brady. It's going to be fun. We're going to go through it with Cynthia. Please join us
Speaker 1: Hi.
