Clock Ticking: Trump Threatens to "Blow Up Everything" Tomorrow at 8

Speaker 1: Hey there, folks. It is Monday, April sixth, and on this Monday, there is a talk of a possible ceasefire. That follows a lot of Easter weekend talk from the President, a lot of tough talk in which President Trump said he is ready to blow up everything over there his words, and those words some say amount to war crimes. Meanwhile, a prominent Democrat is now calling on the President to be removed from office. Iran's response to all this was kind of snarky, and with that, everybody, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ, minus the Amy. He just got me the TJ on this one. We did want to hop on and give you some pretty significant updates from over the weekend and why the next twenty four forty eight hours are going to be critical in this war. We'll start first with there is talk of a possible forty five day cease fire. Will give you details about that, but that word just coming in the last few hours. Also, Trump threatened on Sunday a very significant tweet. He put out excuse me, a truth social post that included some profanity that got a lot of attention and now has some saying he is he is almost signaling that he's about to commit a war crime. We'll explain that. Meanwhile, yes, we had a prominent senator, Democrat Chris Murphy, saying that it is time for Trump's cabinet to invoke the twenty fifth Amendment, in which he would be removed from office. We'll let you hear what he had to say, and we'll also let you hear what Iran had to say. But they've been pretty cute on social media, and quite frankly, if we weren't talking about war, their response would have been clever and quite funny. But because it's war, it's not so funny. But we'll let you hear what they have to say. Let's go back to yesterday, though, Sunday, Easter Sunday. The President was up and he was putting out messages on truth social and this is the one that got everybody's tension. And I quote, Tuesday will be power plant Day and bridge Day all wrapped up in one. In Iran. There will be nothing like it. Three exclamation points, followed that, by the way, he continues, open the fucking straight, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in hell. Just watch praise be t'a la President Donald J. Trump. Obviously, that got a lot of attention, and at a time when the President says there's still negotiation going on behind the scenes, he put that out and that really set not really things in motion with stock markets just yet, and we didn't have a huge fluctuation in oil prices. But now everybody is on standby wondering what the President's going to do next. Now he followed that one up. That post was followed up by one a little afternoon, close to one o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday that said simply this Tuesday, eight pm Eastern time. So he has now set it seems a new deadline for Iran to comply with his demand that they opened the Straight or four moves. The Straight orfour Move's been talked about quite a bit over the past few weeks. All important waterway. Twenty percent of the world's oil goes through there. Iran is turning it on and off, and for the most part it has been off. That has been the fluctuation in oil prices in the country. The President threatened, this is the third deadline. I do believe it's hard to keep up. He gave a forty eight hour deadline and he moved that to a ten day deadline, and the ten days would have been up today, but now that's moved to some time eight o'clock tomorrow. Anyway, there is a deadline of some kind now that the president has by eight o'clock eastern time tomorrow. Now what is he threatening by eight o'clock eastern time tomorrow? Now? He has threatened that he would go after carg Island. That's a particular hub, the center piece, if you will, of most of the energy infrastructure for Iran. He has threatened to go after energy sites, to blow up bridges. Now, there are plenty who are legal scholars who are looking at this and said that would amount to a war crime. You cannot blow up civilian infrastructure and essentially take away water or power from a civilian population. That is the argument being made. So what is the president threatening to do. He's been doing a round of interviews with reporters over the weekend, including with ABC News Rachel Scott over there, and this is what he told her. Quote if it happens, it happens, and if it doesn't, we're blowing up the whole country. In quotes, that's him talking about the deadline. And whether or not they do open the straight of horror moves. If it happens, it happens. If it doesn't, we're blowing up the whole country. He followed up with another interview Axios with this quote, there is a good chance, but if they don't make a deal, I am blowing up everything over there in quote. Now, these threats come with that deadline of eight o'clock tomorrow eight o'clock pm tomorrow on t Tuesday, East Coast time. What happens after that, we do not know. Now all this is going on, It's a pretty tough and scary talk around the world, and two places at least right now, Axios and Reuters both are reporting that there is a ceasefire proposal that is floating around both of these organizations. News organizations outlets are reporting that there is a forty five day ceasefire plan that has been sent out to both Iran and the US. Where did it come from. It wasn't from the Iran Iranians or the US. It wasn't because of the two sides getting together and coming up with this plan. No, it's from Middle East mediators have come up with this that we'd call for an immediate ceasefire and give forty five days to at least try to come to some kind of conclusion or excuse me, some better conclusion than we're going to possibly see yesterday. If the presidency or follows through on a threat. We don't have order this morning of whether no reaction from the Iranians, no reaction from the United States, about that forty five day ceasefire, what is in it and if any discussions are going on about it, but it at least is hopeful something after a very tough weekend of rhetoric that in fact this could happen. There's possibly one on the table. We'll take it. So what was Iran's response? Some of their responses have been, I don't know, surprisingly snarky and and cute and very modern, to be frank, given so much that the regime is known for, you don't expect smiley phase emojis and things like that. But they have been responding. Now, this was the response from one official Twitter account x account for the IRRA audience, and again this was in response to the president's threat that they need to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The response was quote, we've lost the keys again. If we were not talking about war, somebody might look at that and say, oh that's funny, Oh that's clever. But that was the response in the back and forth. It happens all the time. Now as I sit here, here we are on this Monday morning, April six, oil prices have not necessarily they didn't do a whole lot in terms of movement after the president's threat this weekend, still sitting a little high. But again there wasn't a huge spike or anything, or a drop. I guess it's kind of a wait and see mode. But we did have another day that we saw gas prices in this country go up now up to four dollars and twelve cents a gallon, So since the war started, now certainly up a dollar, about a dollar we are paying more, and folks in California are almost at six dollars a gallon. Five dollars and ninety three cents is the average out in California. Now, I mentioned a moment ago this talk is floating around here and there now and then about invoking the twenty fifth Amendment. But we heard it over the weekend from a prominent dimocrat telling the president's cabinet it is time now to get involved here, all right, folks, we continue on this Monday, April sixth and Amy and TJ minus the Amy today just me, you got me. But we're going to wrap this up in just a sec Where I wanted to let you know about what's happening. The twenty fifth Amendment. We hear it all the time. We learned about it in school. You get the idea twenty fifth Amendment can be invoked when the president is in some way capacitated and the vice president needs to step up and have the powers of the president. We hear about it, learn about it, we get it now. It's been invoked several times in our nation's history. It was in place or put in place after the assassination of John F. Kennedy several years lady, it was added, ratified by enough states, becomes a part of the constitution. Now. It has several sections in it. The section that has been invoked in the past, I think is Section one, if not Section two. But it's when the president is incapacitated. What I'm saying is it's happened a few times when a couple of presidents had surgery and colonoscopy in particular. I think that might have been Biden, but it's not only a couple of times. Happened of course after Reagan was shot as well. But the part that's never been evoked is Section four. That is the one where the president can be removed involuntarily. It's when the vice president enough cabinet members, a majority of them, decide that the president no longer has the ability to discharge the duties of his office. That's what it's called. Quote unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office is what it says. That has never been invoked. We've never had a time in this country that the cabinet said, Nope, this guy can't do his job and he needs to be removed. That has never happened. But that is the suggestion this weekend that Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut did make. This is a prominent Democrat. He wrote and put this out on X quote. If I were in Trump's cabinet, I would spend easter calling constitutional lawyers about the twenty fifth Amendment. This is completely utterly unhinged. He's already killed thousands, He's going to kill thousands more. End quote. That is the way a lot of people read the president's through social post as something from somebody who was unhinged. It sounded. And again, this was after I didn't make this point. This was after we had gotten word that the airman who had crashed in Iran had been recovered, so that rescue mission was successful. And this is what the president posted on Sunday afterwards. There will be nothing like it. Open the effing straight, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in hell. Just watch Praise be to Allah. I mean tough talk. And maybe some of the President's supporters appreciate that kind of talk or think that this is how you should do business with a regime like that. I don't know, but a lot of people took that as that does not sound like a sane person. It does not sound like a person who's got it together, and that's not a person we want in charge of saying yes or no we go to war and how we go to war. That message from Chris Murphy was when Murphy was went out to millions folks, it was viewed by millions and millions of folks, and that conversation, Look how much that rises to the level. Oh yeah, I should say this no matter how much it's talked about, there is no indication that anybody in the President's cabinet, anywhere in his circle that's crossed their mind or this would be have any chance in hell that this would ever actually happen. But after the President's message on Sunday, at least it's part of the conversation once again. So folks, has always appreciates you spending some time here with us.
