Police say Jacob Daniel Baker murdered 3 elderly men over a 2 day killing spree in the Puna area of the Big Island. In recent days, at least two residents of the area requested restraining orders against Baker after they say he directly threatened their lives.

He is an Asian male, five to nine, around one hundred and ninety pounds, He has short life care, and he has a tattoo under his left eye. Actually saw the close up of the tattoo. It's flakita, which translates to the skinny girl, but or the thin one. But they actually say it's a term of endearment. Like a pet name. So that's a pretty distinctive feature about him. He can miss it a yes, a like it's a cursive like tattoo under his left eye.

Right now, they were telling folks he has dark hair, but robes and another one he looked like a blonde. He looked like a surfer from Hawaii.

But this is on the Big Island and the closest major tourist area is the Volcano Village, which is about forty five minutes ago and Hilo people might know that that's a big airport hub that people come into to visit. They have some beautiful towns to just to hike and go around the volcanic areas in Hawaii. So look, he's about a forty like from where these killings have taken place. It's about a forty minute drive to the nearest major tourist hub. And it's not to say that that is impossible. He certainly could head in that direction. But the Puna area where these murders have happened is more of a local community, a farming community. It's where people live, work, and it's almost always a very peaceful area. So this is rocking this neighborhood. And when you see who he has targeted and who he has killed, it's a head scratcher.

So this started Monday night, Robes, as we get through all of them, and they keep saying suspicious, suspicious, suspicious. But it started on Monday night, a late call to police robes about a deceased person at a residence.

And then later that afternoon, oh sorry, that was Monday evening. Tuesday afternoon, they get a call about a seventy nine year old man dead from apparent blunt force trauma. That is how it was described. But this man was in a home about five hundred feet away from the first victim, so it could have just been a logistic, a crime of opportunity. He was nearby, we don't know. And then Tuesday night, the third victim, another sixty nine year old man. He was found dead about nineteen miles away from where the other two murders took place, and I think it was only on Wednesday that they finally announced they had three homicides and they were all connected to one man.

Speaker 1: They didn't make that connection initially, and there are some people who have at least spoken out to local media outlets about their frustration in not having enough information, not being worn, not being told by the police officers early enough that there is somebody on the loose in your neighborhood. In Robes this suspicious deaths, all three of them. They're calling one we say blunt injuries. They're supposed to be doing autopsies I see today to determine the cause of death. But I'm rolds. I mean, if they weren't shot, if they weren't stabbed, were they beaten, there's usually some evidence of some kind of foul play, and they just didn't connect it all that early. They connected it now, and I guess is good where we are, but there are some questions about how this went.

There are several residents and people who are in the area who are talking to the local Hawaiian reporters and press, and they are describing I told you, they said that Baker is known as a coconut guy. He basically would go from farm to farm, from house to house and offer to trim your coconut tree for you, and then he would sell the coconuts to be well, that's how he made money. But they did claim he has a very long sword that he uses to trim these coconut trees. It has not been said that that is what perhaps he could have used in any of these homicides. But it is a note that the folks in the area, the neighbors who knew him, said he walked around with a sword because he was the coconut guy.

And this is considered a peaceful, farming community, away from a lot of theorists, away from a lot of life that we know it here in a bustling city. It was the antithesis of that. And so this is exceptionally shocking to this area, to this community that this man is now on the loose and no one knows why. Why would he kill three elderly men in their own homes.

He was acting erratically, so much so that people went and said, I want a restraining order. Two people as of last Friday, according to local press, filed restraining orders against Baker. One of those folks who came forward to police said that Baker flat out threatened her life and the lives of others. So that's deeply deeply concerning that police had him on their radar, or at least they should have.

Three people currently living on the farm, multiple threats in the past, return yesterday, threatened us. Three people are not comfortable in their homes. I don't feel safe. He will enter our property and take items, threaten us ropes. They're like laying goodness, they're laying it out and there was aes. The article goes on to say that they they filed and applied and then the holiday weekend happened and nothing, no movement. I just got you came on.

He's been intimidating the owner of the farm and threatening to harm her. He also threatened guests on the farm that just arrived, and then they put this in all caps. Everyone left because they don't feel safe. My god, the police have a lot of explaining to do. Why they wouldn't have gone and sought him out in that moment, brought him in for questioning and were able to establish that this man was this man was not well. Some folks describe him as seeming as though he is schizophrenic, like he was suffering a mental breakdown of some sort, and folks noticed it when the police did what they were supposed to do. Look, that takes a lot of effort to go into a police station and to file a report against someone because you feel that afraid for your life, and then to know that those were for whatever reason, we don't know.
