Speaker 1: We usually do some kind of an update in the afternoon with one story that we dive deep into. But we have a series of pretty above the fold and in some cases unbelievable stories, breaking stories even that we thought Roads. We try something here and give an afternoon run of sorts to try to just give everybody an update what's been going on?

Speaker 3: And we begin actually in New York City, which I think caught a lot of us by surprise. An attack on a federal building. A man basically set off an incendiary device in the middle of Lower Manhattan in broad daylight and it started a fire.

Speaker 2: This is at twenty six Federal Plaza in New York City.

Speaker 1: Yeah, this throw us off. It was the first thing that this really really got our ten And we happen to not be in the city right now, happened to be out east a little bit, but Manhattan in particular twenty six. Federal Plaza is a place that we are very, very very familiar with because for a couple of years we spent time across the street. The balcony at our former residents I guess robes there in Tribeca looks out directly down at exactly where this happened in roads. We're so familiar with this area because for a long time, every time there was an ice protest, anything having to do with the federal government, we saw lines and lines of people, and many protests happen right there at that buildings. Speaker 3: Big target, that's right, and so they do have a suspect under arrest forty three year old Andrew Arabica Arabaka.

Speaker 3: I heard, okay, yes, and he's been described as an anti government extremist.

Speaker 3: He literally poured gasoline on the ground and lit it with the lyre and lighter and fireworks, and he also had a I'm not really familiar with an air repellant gun, but he was armed with an air pellet gun.

Speaker 1: He fired off some round some air pellets, but I didn't see who he might have. They didn't say he had a target. He was firing and people didn't understand that completely. But this dude showed up. They said he meant to do damage. She did show up to do harm. And roads of stuff he had on him sound like he was he was planning on going out with a bank.

Speaker 3: Yes, police arrested him and they say he was armed with two axes, a hammer, a machete, three knives. Again in the middle of New York City, in Lower Manhattan, right there off of Broadway, in the heart of Tribeca. And yeah, this is some scary stuff. Police were They're all around this building. I mean, this is a highly protected building. There are police everywhere. It only took a matter of moments they were up on him. But still, this is disturbing.

Speaker 1: Immigration Court is in this building. The FBI headquarters of New York are in this building. Every time there have been protests, roads people have seen. You have seen video probably of inside this building before was some kind of clash between a someone in who's there for Immigration Court and an ICE member. This is that building. It has been a target and the video is out there. You literally see him poor liquid on the ground, ropes I was shot. Looking at the video. Where was everybody? Yeah, I mean just people on the street that looked like a lull in the time.

Speaker 3: I think sometimes you can't believe what you're seeing. I mean, the good news about New York City is there is always someone watching someone. There's always someone usually having a cell phone out taking a video.

Speaker 3: I mean, if I were out there watching, you'd be thinking, no way, is this guy actually doing what.

Speaker 3: I think it takes a second for people to process what they're witnessing because it's so out of the norm.

Speaker 1: But they do have him in custody now. They also say he is a former US soldier worked on Patriot missile systems. I even saw it was his big in the military. So that was a big story. More to come on that story, number two, that's a big deal.

Speaker 1: We head to South Carolina. Lindsey Graham's sister has been a US Senator for less than a week. Apparently she likes a job.

Speaker 3: President Trump is the one who I believe came up with the idea in the first place.

Speaker 2: He thought it'd be a good idea.

Speaker 3: It would pay homage to Lindsey Graham, who passed suddenly last weekend, to have his sister fill in his seat while Republicans figure out who would ultimately run for his seat come November. Well, it turns out Darlene Graham herself is going to be that person, and she does have President Trump's backing. In fact, she said it was his urging that led her to make her decision.

Speaker 1: And she made it short and sweet and simple quote, I've made a decision. I'm in. Look, she was. I don't know how she can lose this thing. I don't know how she can lose this thing. Everybody theympathy is with her, certainly, but the name would have been enough probably anyway.

Speaker 3: Yes, she's got the name recognition, And anyone who has followed or who voted for Linda Graham knows of his love for his sister, who he basically took care of when their parents both died within a few months of each other or within a few years of each other. I believe so she was young. He has spoken highly of his sister. His sister has been by his side on the campaign trail for the past several decades, and although she's never run for office, she's certainly been alongside him and has been in service to the state of South Carolina. Yes, she was paid for her position. She was someone who helped basically place folks with disabilities in that state and most recently with folks who are blind. So she is somebody who is active in that state and active in helping folks in that state. So, yes, it does seem like this would be hers to lose. She said, I know I'm a hard worker. I learned that from Lindsay. He cared about the people of this state. I've worked for almost thirty years for the people of this state. I feel like I can do it. I feel an inner piece about it.

I'm not sure how many others did raise their hands, but August eleventh, there's going to be a special election primary to figure out who is going to replace Lindsey Graham on the ballot for the Republicans of Nancy Mace raised her hand. Who else has raised? Several folks, prominent folks have raised their hands. I don't know how. I don't know how. She's beatable.

Speaker 3: Quite frankly, and when President Trump has her back and has specifically named her, I think it's going to be pretty hard, a pretty hard position to fill.

Speaker 1: All right, Story number three we have for you here to update you having to do with cyclospora. The confusion we've had about this outbreak well the FDA today, we started the day robes with saying that the FDA announced that a positive test for cyclo spora at the Taylor Farms plant in Mexico. That positive test was actually a false positive. So that false positive test was the one that essentially led to a recall in twenty seven states of all this iceberg lettus. Okay, so that's what we woke up to the news robes, like, what, FDA, you're messed up and you told us it was coming from here. It's actually a false positive. Well, they have now updated this robe. Does this clarify things or does this confused folks even more?

Speaker 3: I mean, I think it is a little confusing because you had Taylor Farms also coming out very quickly to say Haha. The FDA apologized to us and it wasn't our fault. But now you've got the updates, FDA is saying, yes, to clarify, this false positive lab sample does not change the basis for the FDA's ongoing outbreak investigation or the overwhelming epidemiological data supporting the current voluntary recall by Taylor Farms. Basically, they're saying, Okay, fine, we had a false positive that that does not mean that the outbreak did not still start at Taylor Farms.

Speaker 1: That's what we were saying this morning. Robes, they trace, They have other ways of doing this. They've talked to people, They've traced people's eating habits, to these taco bells and to the lettuce, and so there are other ways. They didn't just base it on this one thing. But it does with the headlines, and Taylor Farms did not help. They knew what they were doing, trying to cover their own butts with that headline. But it calls, at least for the public's sake, confusion.

Speaker 3: And I think that's the question A lot of folks have, and most microbiologists, most folks who are involved in food safety, will say, you might want to avoid that if it'll make you feel a lot better, and certainly you're gonna need to wash the heck out of whatever you purchased. But yes, to be safe, might be best to avoid iceberg lettuce for now, all right, Story.

Speaker 1: Number five for is need to give you an update on is a new Trump threat. This one is pretty dire, I suppose as well. Pretty tough talk here, Robes. It is Monday. We'll see if he'll take this one back on Tuesday. But for now, he is making another threat to Iran.

Speaker 3: Basically, this is all within the news of some US soldiers, some troops who have died, two of them in Jordan, one of them in Iraq, but all adjacent to the Iranian war. And the President went on to say every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay for that killing. Many times over, this directive has been passed on to the Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Daniel Cain, and every leader in the military.

Speaker 1: Okay, standing order, What does any of that mean? Ropes, what does any of that mean? I mean, I'm sure Iran shaking in the boots. Here comes another threat from the president, but many times over this comes on the heels. We have seen this past several days. There have been three US soldiers that are killed. That brings a number killed in this war up to seventeen butes. Look, Americans, I don't have a good stomach for this war. You start seeing headlines with American soldiers being killed, along with gas prices going up, along with oil prices going up, along with all this uncertainty. How much longer are Americans going to stick sit around and tolerate this?

Speaker 3: Yes, with Iran seemingly unwilling to budge in any way, shape or form with these negotiations and this peace deal or at least a ceasefire, all of that hasn't seemed to have any actual foundation and certainly doesn't seem like it's headed in the right direction. So to have Americans dying on top of that, this is awful news for the President and for what he's been trying to accomplish. And this has just gone on and on and on and on with seemingly no end.

Speaker 1: All Right, the fifth out of seven stories we wanted to give you a quick update on this one takes us down to Mississippi. Funeral services held today for Nolan well the eighteen year old who died under mysterious circumstances after hanging out parting with friends at a sand essentially just off the coast of Mississippi on the fourth of July weekend. He was found two days later. Suspicious circumstances surrounding a lot of this case but Grobes. His funeral service was today and this was a bit of a surprise announcement. Al Sharpton was doing the eulogy and made an announcement about a reward that almost was immediately doubled.

Speaker 3: That's right, so Al Sharpton announced a fifty thousand dollars reward being offered for anyone who can provide information in the case of Nolan Wells that will lead to an arrest. And then while he was still in the middle of his eulogy, apparently Tyler Perry immediately matched the offer of fifty thousand, so that is now at one hundred thousand dollars to anyone who will give information that will lead to an arrest and a conviction in the case of what happened. And look, hundreds of people gathered today in Mississippi to honor Nolan Wells. His parents both spoke and a lot of emotion and just still a lot of questions.

Speaker 3: Two weeks ago, exactly today on Monday, his body was found and we still don't have the autopsy results, and we still don't have a lot of answers to many glaring questions.

Speaker 1: Yeah, and I wonder what this does. This sounded like a definitive there was a crime. When you put a number one hundred thousand dollars for information leading to an arrest and conviction, I think that is going to send a message. Look, a lot of people have, well depend on what camp you are, a lot of people just waiting to get answers. A lot of people are absolutely something had to have happened. This sends a message. Does it sound like robes that yes, there is somebody that needs to be arrested. It goes beyond just letting an investigation play out.

Speaker 3: I think Look, on one hand, some of the anger, a lot of the anger came from the fact that police were quick too, or the Sheriff's department was quick to say, doesn't look like foul play, looks like an accidental drowning before the full investigation was actually able to be completed. So maybe perhaps this is the counterbalance to that. Well, let's go ahead and just off for our reward, because we think it's likely that there was possibly some either criminal activity or someone who did something that led to the death of Nolan Wells. So maybe it's just a counterbalance to the other end of what was initially the reaction by police.

Speaker 1: All Right, two other things to get you caught up on. One having to do with that mega merger between Paramount and Warner Brothers. Well it's been put on hold. And then the President's brand new plane, you know, that Air Force one he is so proud of. It's already in the shop.

Speaker 3: Welcome back to an after noon run. We're getting to try. But there was so much breaking news this afternoon. We didn't want to just pick one topic. We had so much information to give you guys, and one of the big ones this could affect so many folks, the big Paramount Warner Brothers merger. It would combine two massive film studios, some major news outlets in addition to just a trove of movies and having it all under one roof.

Speaker 2: Well, a judge said, hold up, not so fast.

Speaker 1: You know, this is I don't know how you get a merger like this through all the legal jump, illegal loophole, a little uh, what do you call them? Jumping jumping through loop hurles, hurdles, all the hurdles, legal hurdles, That's what I was looking for. But yes, there were several states, the attorney's general of several states to sue try to stop this. Yes, and all those were Democratic states. They have sued democratic states, democratic attorneys general, I should say, but all of them have sue to stop this merger, to pause it. What this judge has done now. They asked initially that the companies not be able to essentially keep signing paperwork to pause things while they played out their state cases and made a case against the merger. Well, the companies said, nah, we're gonna go ahead and continue our work. And so that's when these attorneys general got another judge involved. This judge has stepped in and said, yes, you need to stop all the work on this merger for two weeks. I don't know if that's enough time, but they only have two weeks to try to get some resolution or some answers from on the merits of them trying to stop the merger in the first place. Yes, but this is a it's a big deal, is a major look. I don't know if this is just another step, but at least they are claiming victory right now. The States are saying this is a major win and a major first step in continuing on. And then the last thing we want to give you here, folks, this plane. It's gorgeous. I don't think it's having problems robes. It sounds like it wasn't ready for prime time in the first place.

Speaker 3: Well, it wasn't ready to house a US president, especially during a time of war, especially a president who has already had attempts on his life, and especially a president who an entire country, and some might even argue a region, has been trying to kill and has been very vocal about it.

Speaker 1: Yes, the Air Force one, the new plane is already out of commission. Excuse me. Out of commission is one way to play it. They have taken it out of rotation for the time being. Yes, the new plane. The president got so controversial four hundred million dollar Katari gift that he was given. They revamped this thing, rose pretty quickly and made it his new Air Force one. A lot of eyebrows were raised just accepting the gift. Eyebrows were raised. They had it ready so quickly. About safety and did you really check this thing well enough for bugs? Was it really up to speed? Well, okay, he said, was fine. He unveiled it. He flew into Turkey robes for the NATO summit, but he didn't fly it out of Turkey. And that's when this story really got going, uh.

Speaker 3: Right, because there were a lot of stories that it didn't have all of this safety precautions in place, and of note the one that most people are sticking to, and he was out directly about it. Did this jet have the same anti missile capabilities as his original as the previous model? He kind of sidestepped the question, But that is the belief that the plane does not have an anti messile defense system on it, and certainly you would want that to be in place ready to go operational when you have the President of the United States.

Why did this one now be at Why does it have to come back in if it's already good this I would love to get the answers to this. I would love to hear why he was allowed to fly around in a plane that you now say isn't safe enough for him. Brokes, I'd love to hear that answer.
