BREAKING: Actor Timothy Busfield Denied Bond Amid New Accusations

RSS Feed Emmy award winning actor Timothy Busfield is now facing a new accusation of sexual abuse in a filing by the Albuquerque DA. Prosecutors asked that Busfield remain behind bars while dealing with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse, and the judge agreed. This latest accusation comes from a father of a teenaged girl who came forward this week in light of the charges against Busfield. The actor has vehemently denied the allegations and his wife, TV legend Melissa Gilbert says she stands by her husband.

They want him to stay in jail, and we're going to get into why they think he is such a threat. But Robes, it was something to see him come into that today.

Speaker 4: We watched him walk in this actor that we've all seen on camera for decades now, just to see him in that orange jumpsuit in such a humbling position and yes, to hear him denied bail. He will be behind bars at least until his next hearing, which they said has to take place within five business days, so he could be in prison for the next what week, almost at this point until he has his first hearing. But in addition to all of this today him being denied bond, there are also new allegations he's dealing with.

It was all done virtually. So the attorneys appeared, I mean, imagine the zoom meeting is what it looked like court proceeding, and you could see the courtroom. You could see the attorneys in a box and the judge was in a separate box, and we kept hearing people called up right, the accused, after accused. They're all in their prison uniforms and answering the judges questions. And then they come to one and the judge says, was I supposed to clear the courtroom for this last one? And someone in the court is answering her, and the person in the courtroom said, we have one more. They're being held in another room, but they have private council and so we knew what was coming. But when he walked in, it was unmistakable who it was. I mean, you could just in the grainy video in the small box could tell that was him. Just he almost looked ghost white with the hair and just his facial, his skin tone.

Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a serial surreal moment to see him walk in like that because we had just seen him twenty four hours earlier in that video he made and he seemed defiant and he said, you know, to camera, hey, I basically hope I get out of there soon, hope I won't be in there too long. He was almost flippant in the video, and he did seem sincere in his denial, saying I've never done anything wrong with those boys, and so look, I thought he seemed earnest and he seemed sincere. But you know at the end when he was like, yeah, I hope I get out, just to now see him twenty four hours later look very different, and just to see him in that humbling position.

But this Timothy busfil who said he drove from upstate New York to New Mexico over the weekend, the two thousand miles to turn himself in, is going to be staying in New Mexico. Now, I mean ropes, this is it didn't feel I'm meant to ask you about this earlier. It felt like this thing escalated quickly.

But he is accused, of course by two boys, twin boys who were actors on a show that he was directing, accused him of touching them and as they put it, there pee and pooh areas. But they detail some pretty horrific stuff and rogue that he was worth pointing out. They weren't talking about an isolated incident. They said it happened when they were There were twin boys who were on the show. Happened when they were seven and eight, but they told a teacher therapist parent like in different independent in time. So it's horrific some of the stuff they describe. And he defended himself said nope, they're all lives, horrible lies. And during the initial investigation he said he would tickle them.

He said that that occurred several years ago by the hands of bus Field while auditioning for him at B Street Theater. He said, his sixteen year old reported that Busfield kissed her and put his hands down her pants and touched her privates. This is where it it's really sad, because yes, that's horrible, But then they say the defendant begged the family to not report to law enforcement if he received therapy. And because the father of this daughter is a licensed therapist himself, he said he thought at that time that was the best thing to do. But now that he's seen that this was not an isolated incident, he decided to come forward and report the assault.

Speaker 4: Okay, that's little disturbing in and of itself, But what was really disturbing was in this court filing today we got specific word about at least one other person who has come forward since the news was made public. So the warrant for his arrest was issued on January ninth, and that is when headlines came around. Well, according to this court filing, another victim's father and they gave the name of the father.

Speaker 4: Went to law enforcement on January thirteenth, So this is just yesterday, but in light of the headlines, and he reported that his daughter was sexually abused by Timothy Busfield. He said that that occurred several years ago by the hands of bus Field while auditioning for him at B Street Theater. He said, his sixteen year old reported that Busfield kissed her and put his hands down her pants and touched her privates. This is where it it's really sad, because yes, that's horrible, But then they say the defendant begged the family to not report to law enforcement if he received therapy. And because the father of this daughter is a licensed therapist himself, he said he thought at that time that was the best thing to do. But now that he's seen that this was not an isolated incident, he decided to come forward and report the assault.

Speaker 2: He hasn't been convicted of anything over the years, right, that's always worth noting. It's worth noting that he says these are all horrible lies and he is not guilty of any of it. I should also note that his wife, Melissa Gilbert, is standing by him, according to a statement that's been put out on her behalf by attorneys. And this is where we are robes. Speaker 4: Have by next Wednesday. He has to have his bond hearing. So they said within five business days. It could be tomorrow. Who knows what sort of pull his attorney may have about getting an expedited hearing. I would think he would want that sooner rather than later, to see or at least to know whether or not he has a chance of getting out or if this is I mean, when you read with this DA asked of this judge to consider when it came to bond, it sounds like they are going to put full pressure on the court to keep him behind bars for all the reasons they outlined.
