Speaker 1: Hey, the folks, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. And this is a new one for us road We actually take issue with our guests today.
00:00:09
Speaker 2: They are trying to compete with.
00:00:12
Speaker 1: Us for the Iheart's Most Adored couple right here they come. Now, we thought we finally got a lock on this thing, and now here comes another iHeart couple.
00:00:22
Speaker 3: Yeah right, and they've got some years on us.
00:00:24
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think they've got what twenty years together or so to speak. But yes, we are so excited to have Juliana and Bill Ransick with us and you all are now officially a couple podcasting duo.
00:00:37
Speaker 3: Yes, how's it going on here for Advice one Weekend?
00:00:41
Speaker 4: You just launched this month in May when we're recording this, so tell us how it's going.
00:00:46
Speaker 3: And first of all, why why did you want to do a podcast?
00:00:48
Speaker 5: I know, you know, we.
00:00:49
Speaker 6: Had the idea a long time ago, like a lot of people, right, but there was never like that, that thing that would set it apart from all the other podcasts out there. And honestly, it came from a colonoscopy. I had my first colonoscopy this year.
00:01:03
Speaker 2: That's a great start to story.
00:01:05
Speaker 5: Un let's get right to it. But it is the truth. It's the truth.
00:01:09
Speaker 6: So I had my first colonoscopy, and you know the prep. You have to drink all that liquid, all this prep, and it's easier for some people than others.
00:01:18
Speaker 5: And I did not enjoy it at all.
00:01:20
Speaker 6: I couldn't get through the prep, and so I had to set an alarm for two in the morning to finish the prep before the meeting in the morning, or the meeting. I wish it was just a meeting, the appointment in the morning. And so two in the morning, I'm like, I can't have another sip of this stuff. So I went online and I searched do I have to finish the colonoscopy prep? And so I got a bunch of different answers. A nurse, actually there was some nurse in a chat room who said, as a colonoscopy nurse of twenty five years dot dot dot, and I went, this is the person I'm listening to. Left a little of that prep behind, did the colonopy. Everything was fine, but it was the next day I said to Bill, I'm like, you know, what if we did a podcast that, you know, where we answered questions that people search at two in the morning where people are just curious about and face every episode on that.
00:02:09
Speaker 5: So that's how I did get dicey.
00:02:10
Speaker 7: Also debunking a lot of a lot of the myths, like I get a lot of my health and wellness information from Instagram reels.
00:02:17
Speaker 5: Which is scary, so it should be very Yeah.
00:02:19
Speaker 7: Yeah, it's really kind of incredible some of the things I've tried over the last two years now that I'm getting older.
00:02:24
Speaker 2: So what have you tried? I mean that went back.
00:02:28
Speaker 7: There is a lot of bad information out there, right, Like one that's going around now. I don't agree to it, but that nicotine prevents Alzheimer's and dementia, and so had doctor. So I sampled some of those little nicotine pouches and zins. Yes, yeah, oh yeah no, And then Mike, I'll do one a day just to keep the Alzheimer's away. And then it went to two, and then it went to three, and and then I'm like, I got it. So then after like two weeks of this, I'm like, I'm gonna I gotta nip this.
00:02:55
Speaker 2: Wait, you get hooked on nicotine?
00:02:56
Speaker 7: Well no, I mean it was for two weeks.
00:02:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess I was.
00:03:00
Speaker 4: I had one of those that hilariously, one of my daughters older, like she's twenty three, but one of her friends said.
00:03:06
Speaker 3: You gotta try this. I tried it and I got so lightheaded.
00:03:10
Speaker 2: You did okay, and I freaked out.
00:03:11
Speaker 3: I was like, I am never doing that again.
00:03:13
Speaker 7: It is a rush, right, Well, we debunked the myth, so we had a neurologist come on. He's like, no, no, no, you don't want to be doing that.
00:03:21
Speaker 3: So you stopped immediately.
00:03:22
Speaker 7: I stopped immediately after two weeks, but it was a still kind of a tough four or five days, like I was craving it.
00:03:30
Speaker 1: What was her What was your reaction though? Back to the Colonosco, because you come to you about the podcast, I dad, what was your initial reaction?
00:03:36
Speaker 7: Well, you know, we did we did a reality show an e called The Julianna Bill Show for eight seasons, and you know we've always said, well, maybe we'll bring it back one day, but in a different version. We don't want our son to be part of it and just not fair to him. He doesn't want to be in the limelight. So this seemed like a great kind of next step from the julyn Bill Show. Because it was you know, it was a really very popular show, believe it or not, I guess for more interesting than we thought.
00:03:59
Speaker 3: I believe you believe it?
00:04:00
Speaker 7: Yeah?
00:04:01
Speaker 3: No, And so how does this Does this feel less invasive? I mean I don't know. I can never look.
00:04:06
Speaker 4: We did Morning News, yes, and we know what it's like to have private lies out there, and we know what good can come out of it, and we know what bad can come out of it. And so is there any trepidation at all in just letting people into your lives and knowing what's going on?
00:04:22
Speaker 5: I know, you know what's crazy.
00:04:23
Speaker 6: When we did the reality show, I mean we did eighty episodes and it was a very you know, like there were a lot of topics.
00:04:32
Speaker 5: We got into.
00:04:33
Speaker 7: Breast cancer to infertility to you know, we covered a lot of really heavy duty stuff.
00:04:37
Speaker 5: Yeah, they did.
00:04:38
Speaker 6: And what's interesting is, you know, when we signed on to do this podcast, or we had this idea to do the podcast, I honestly was like, well, you know, it's not going to be more revealing than the reality show. But it has been already so much more revealing than the reality show. And I think it's because it's just us talking and talking and meeting different people, different things come up, and you don't know what he's going to say.
00:05:02
Speaker 5: It doesn't know what I'm going to say.
00:05:03
Speaker 6: So I think it's actually kind of much more revealing than the reality show.
00:05:10
Speaker 5: It's didn't expect at all. Do you feel that way?
00:05:12
Speaker 4: Podcasting is intimate, it's discerning, and especially we've spent our whole careers, especially with a microphone in front of us, being very protective about what we said, very deliberate about what we said, very intentional, and almost never offering an opinion, even if it was a professional opinion.
00:05:29
Speaker 3: You still steered clear of that.
00:05:31
Speaker 4: You didn't want to make waves, You didn't want to upset anybody that was broadcast news, podcasting, anything goes, and we've kind of tried to figure out where that line is because it is a very different, a very different medium where you do end up saying things you didn't even plan on sexty exactly?
00:05:48
Speaker 2: Is that kind of easier for you all? You lived in front of the camera right for a long time? Does it?
00:05:52
Speaker 1: It seems like this would be an easier transition to be open, But it sounds like you all are still finding I mean, I.
00:05:58
Speaker 7: Think it's fun.
00:05:59
Speaker 2: It's easy.
00:06:00
Speaker 7: I think it's easy. You know.
00:06:01
Speaker 5: The thing is, I have to.
00:06:02
Speaker 6: Be honest, Like I thought I would be more natural at it, if you will, just because I did a news for so long every day, right like you guys like doing you know why did entertainment news entertainment news every day and interviewing a red carpet. So I thought like, oh my gosh, this is like gonna be a piece of cake. And then I thought, actually, Bill would have more of a problem with it, Like I thought, is Bill really gonna be intimate and reveal things and be like a real guy? And I know that sounds weird, but I have to because you're like very like you're more like buttoned up, and you know, you're like more people think you're more serious. And I wanted to know, and I know the real you. And I was curious, like is the real Bill going to come out? Within ten minutes, the real Bill came out. He's unhinged in a lot of these stretch literally stretch. I didn't even come up with that because it was actually someone's We were on someone's podcast and they said these two young women were like Bill, like where'd you come from? You're unhinged, and he I think he just also, but you said, what are you telling? Because we're on Kelly Clarkson show recently and he said to Kelly Clarkston. She goes, Bill, gosh, you're just saying anything, and he goes, what did you say?
00:07:12
Speaker 7: I'm fifty five? Now I don't care anymore? Like who caress it?
00:07:17
Speaker 5: Mix it two things.
00:07:19
Speaker 6: I think that it's a much more intimate medium, as we were talking about, write an intimate for platform. But I also think that in our older age, we care less what we say.
00:07:33
Speaker 7: You know, well that you've hit sixty.
00:07:34
Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not saying don't say that because kill people will be like you look great for six. I'm younger than Bill, she's fifty five. I'm fifty one. But anyways, good to say that, because I'm afraid people are going to be like you do look.
00:07:49
Speaker 6: But anyways, so bottom line is we've discovered a lot about ourselves that we didn't realize.
00:07:55
Speaker 1: You called, you said the real Bill? Was he the real Bill on the TV show?
00:08:01
Speaker 5: Yes, he was definitely the real Bill on the TV show.
00:08:03
Speaker 6: And I think that's why, Well back then, the Bill back then was the real Bill.
00:08:08
Speaker 7: But I think that we're talking about me way too much here in the room. I'm right here.
00:08:14
Speaker 3: Everything we're saying he is.
00:08:16
Speaker 6: He has, he's like much looser now. I think I am too. I think that does come.
00:08:21
Speaker 7: It comes with age, with age, you.
00:08:22
Speaker 6: Know, right, and experience and life experience, right, and you just realize kind of you know, I don't know, you just you get more comfortable with yourself as you get A lot.
00:08:33
Speaker 2: Was said about you there, Bill, I'll give you a chance for a rebuttal you want to take.
00:08:36
Speaker 7: It's not like I'm you know, like some of these old guys that are walking around passing gas and they don't care like, you know, like the.
00:08:43
Speaker 2: Old guys we talked about that.
00:08:45
Speaker 7: Yeah, No, I think it's just I'm enjoying it. It's fun. We get to meet a lot of great people like the two of you, you know, so we're really kind of embracing it and hopefully we're giving people good information at the end of the day that they can count on. We have really high quality, vetted experts that we're having on the show, where it's not some of these guys on Instagram that you know, you listen to that I I'm a sucker. I bought all the vitamins. I've the skins, anything to regrow hair. I'm like, I'm your customer.
00:09:15
Speaker 6: I'll give you some brands and we trust me. We would love a deal with these people. But we don't have a deal with these people. But you know those grooms, those gummy.
00:09:24
Speaker 7: Every celebrity is doing a pitching on Instagram.
00:09:27
Speaker 6: Bill sees like all these like reality people, all these people were doing do you guys know the grooms.
00:09:31
Speaker 5: All these people were doing these videos on these.
00:09:34
Speaker 7: They just sold for like a two hundred million dollars or something.
00:09:36
Speaker 5: For the next thing. I know, Box like shows up of.
00:09:39
Speaker 7: These vit I'm like, I get the monthly, I get the monthly shipman Ship.
00:09:45
Speaker 5: I'm like Bill, He's like, oh, I saw them on Instagram. They're great.
00:09:48
Speaker 6: I'm like, oh my god, if you fall for one more Instagram thing, you know, and just everything like anything like.
00:09:53
Speaker 5: Hair growth or this or cleanser.
00:09:55
Speaker 6: I don't even know what he's buying, but I literally thought to myself, I'm like, advertisers go after like the eighteen to thirty four year old women.
00:10:02
Speaker 5: They should go after.
00:10:03
Speaker 4: Brandon's eyeglasses back when we were younger, and you know, you're uplate at night and if you order now, you'll get this free set of mumps. And everyone's calling one eight hundred. But now it's just so accessible. It's right there, you just click the link. I'm Bill, I'll admit I'm guilty. I have absolutely purchased things that I've seen advertise me on Instagram.
00:10:24
Speaker 5: I'm that girl too, Bill.
00:10:25
Speaker 2: You are going to get flooded. Oh, bring after this because every advertiser knows.
00:10:31
Speaker 7: He'll buy I am I'm your target demographic.
00:10:43
Speaker 4: I'm curious you two for all the people who really went along this journey with you. Everyone over uses that word all the time, but I can't think of another way to describe people who really spent those It was eight sees and seventies and eighties right with your reality show, and they saw you go through so much.
00:11:01
Speaker 3: You mentioned infertility.
00:11:02
Speaker 4: Obviously, you and I Julian I have talked about breast cancer and your fertility journey actually is what brought you and showed you that you actually had breast cancer. So there's a whole incredible story and lesson to be learned from that. But people went along with you, and they watched you and they were rooting for you and saw you all go into business together and all of these things. For folks who are tuning in now to the podcast you've mentioned you've changed. Are who are they going to meet now versus who you were ten years ago or twelve years ago when your show ended.
00:11:34
Speaker 5: That's a good question.
00:11:36
Speaker 7: I mean, I think we're a little bit wiser, you know. I think that comes with age. I think you've you turn the as the older you get, the more you turn the volume on the down on the things that don't matter, Especially when you go through cancer scare or things like that, you realize what's really important in life and what's not.
00:11:51
Speaker 5: I don't think, yeah, I think so, you know.
00:11:53
Speaker 6: I honestly, I think a lot of it is just a more confident version of ourselves. I think, you know, every decade of life you discover something new about yourself. Like when I look back at when I was in my thirties, I looked back at my twenties and thought, oh my gosh, I'm so different now, I'm so much more confident, mature. But then as you get older, you really do get so much more confidence. And so I think for us, I don't know, I'm like very proud.
00:12:19
Speaker 5: Of what we've done in our lives.
00:12:21
Speaker 6: I'm proud of the people we are, you know, and so I love just being able to share information and I'm very comfortable talking about my life, you know. So I think that I think that's what will show more than anything. And also another thing you were touching on this before, Amy, I think also you know a lot of people know us or let's say no me from twenty years of doing the entertainment right, A lot of that was scripted, right, So like E News, a lot of it was on scripts, reading prompt or reading prompter. Even my questions prepared on the red carpet. There was definitely a lot of ad living going on. But there's always like a level of being prepared on these shows. But a podcast is very different. I think people are like hearing our personalities and seeing our persons more than we've ever shown. I guess if you, you know, can say, don't you think they'll especially you.
00:13:14
Speaker 7: I'm telling you, I don't mean, I don't mean to laugh, but I see that refrigerator there. I got served an ad yesterday for Factor food Delivery. Nice from my buddies. My buddy Sheldon sires A retired NHL guy, but his wife was pitching the food delivery and I'm about.
00:13:31
Speaker 2: To order it.
00:13:32
Speaker 7: That's already here in your studio.
00:13:35
Speaker 3: You have it in your student I don't mean to change the subject.
00:13:40
Speaker 5: I didn't even know why he sent it to me, Like why do I know that name? Like, yeah, I'm about to order that.
00:13:44
Speaker 7: Because I want to eat healthier and this is going to deliver food.
00:13:47
Speaker 6: Sent me our friends, well our friend Tessa's post. I thought you were just saying like, oh, look what they're up to.
00:13:53
Speaker 2: No, no, no, I'm about to buy it.
00:13:55
Speaker 7: She convinced me that guys get the weekly They deliver food your house every week, helping bring advertisers to the show.
00:14:01
Speaker 1: Here, guys, I hate that we don't have a product like anything pure life.
00:14:11
Speaker 7: Well even my son, like he wore me down and wore me down about buying a car, and I couldn't take it. I bought a car and I literally woke up the next morning, I said, what the hell did I just do this? Thirteen year old just beat he just just I mean, did a PowerPoint presentation to me.
00:14:30
Speaker 2: And he's not driving it.
00:14:31
Speaker 7: He's thirteen. He talked to you and buying he's thirteen, and I did. And I literally woke up the next morning with like buyer's remorse.
00:14:38
Speaker 2: Like what what car? I need to know about?
00:14:40
Speaker 7: I didn't even want to say I didn't, but I sold it. I sold them and I sold the How long did you have it? I had it for six months and then we I'm like, it's going away for the winter. I told them, and I put it in storage for the winter, and then they sold.
00:14:52
Speaker 5: It's a sports car.
00:14:55
Speaker 3: I love it, but we do not judge on that. I have my pie in the sky car that I want to what is it?
00:15:00
Speaker 2: We're not going to tell you.
00:15:02
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, we can play this game.
00:15:07
Speaker 4: Hear more of our conversation in our next episode on the Feed. Part two of our sit down with Bill and Juliana Ransick should be posting right after this episode, and in it you're going to hear the Ransicks describe their marriage today after being in the spotlight for the past two decades. In the meantime, thank you so much for listening on behalf of TJ.
00:15:28
Speaker 5: Holmes.
00:15:28
Speaker 3: I'm Amy Robot. We will talk to you soon.
Speaker 1: Hey, the folks, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ. And this is a new one for us road We actually take issue with our guests today.
