Sardonic Man makes Mornings Easier
I listen to this podcast while I do my makeup in the morning and his shrewd sometimes dismal view of the world somehow makes me feel better about life. I listen to the episode corresponding to my own sobriety or a day that I hope to reach. Thanks so much David, for real.
I'm grateful to have discovered this.
Just started listening yesterday. The fact that it's a daily podcast is ideal. I've always been a very peaceful alcoholic so listening to the exploits of a specifically violent one is entertaining and insightful as well as a cautionary armchair exploration of the nature of addiction. Also the fact that he's a comic is just great because I do stand up as well. I'm on my 200th attempt trying to quit. Will be listening daily for encouragement. 5 stars all the way.
Superbly honest and brilliant.
I can relate to all Boyle’s stories and challenges. I’m going to be 10yrs sober next month, and wish there was a podcast like this when I quit booze. Loving this, and I’m only 129 days in on this brilliant podcast. Keep up the good work. See yaaaaah
So good
So good man. Sounds like what i’ve been going through for a long time. I’ve got to 2 weeks of bunch. Hopefully i can finally keep going. Day 20. The bender perfectly described.
Great listen!!
I love this podcast. I have nearly spit out whatever I was drinking while listening at work. So…coffee or water. It’s super funny and super human at the same time. And…send Boyle a message and he freakin responds!! This show makes my day repeatedly. Thanks Boyle!!
Hilarious
Not sure this pod will help you get sober, but it will make you laugh. Bogans, mushies, c*nts, darts, slabs, and loads of stories about drunken mongrels. Perfect 5 minute pods. Pull ya head in, David.
Gets better and better
Incredible laughs with a few pieces of REAL advice from a guy who has, by his own admission, tried EVERY drug and nearly drank himself into oblivion. It takes a little while for him to hit his stride… but if you can make it to 2020 when COVID first hits, the episodes are pure gold. Rare to not have a lol moment or at least crack a smile in ever episode, which is saying something for a *daily* podcast. This is a hidden gem, you won’t regret getting Hooked on Quitting. “See y’as later!”
I am only at episode 207
David Boyle has a clever thing here, and I intend to catch up and follow along unless it gets boring. Is the podcast inspiring? Not especially.....but it is stealth-mode-informative. Is he funny? Oh, I think so. But most of all, it is his raw honesty (100%) and willingness to put the brutal facts on display that I find memorable. Raw. Only, I haven’t figured out what else to do while listening to the podcast. Drink? Work? Scroll? And you want your listeners to share it? So my friends or colleagues can ask why I am listening to “I’m quitting alcohol”? Risky, sir. Risky. Anyways, thanks for putting yourself out there and delivering so many laughs. Cheers.
Funny. Supportive.
I came here for the support first - I track my days not drinking with Boyle’s. I listen to his daily episode around the same time I would start drinking that day myself. Coming home from work, before going out with friends, etc. What surprised me is that I genuinely laugh a couple of times every episode. I love standup but I can only tolerate a handful of comedians. He is good. Thanks for doing this David. quick anecdote of my experience: When I need to tell people I don’t drink, I say, “Not being hungover is better than being drunk.” Their first response is to laugh. the second response is in their eyes when they realize you’re right.
Hilarious podcast
Boyle is not very smart but he certainly is hilarious. Actually, I’m not sure if he’s funny or if it’s just his silly Aussie accent that makes me laugh. Either way he does have some great stories. I loved the one where some Irish dude bit off his lip. Cheers mate.
Relatable
I’ve quit booze too and have found this a hilarious eye opener. Only 100 days in. I too am looking to have a good long cry
Yup
Funny stuff, I’m in the process of doing the same. I really laughed at the I don’t belong here department store rant. I can relate.
Funny and Real
Such a good podcast—the stream of [something] that Boyle uses to get serious or get sarcastic takes you all sorts of different directions, but whoever he goes, you follow and it is incredible. (Not an apple podcast user—Spotify is better—but I’m here for Boyle.)
Good
Very funny man. His voice should be more heard. Cathartic experience listening. God bless Boyle!
Great short podcast
Funny stuff. Its a great 5 min podcast guaranteed to get at laugh if you have ever tried to quit. It’s better he is doing it so I don’t have to. Learn all about quitting without the actual quitting part.
Really funny short podcasts
I start my day with these hilarious few minutes of David Boyle. Some of the humor may be a bit dark, but still funny. The world is losing its sense of humor. Maybe Boyle can help us find it.
My new favorite podcast!
Love this guy! I stumbled on the podcast while listening to Spotify and was instantly hooked. Boyle is very relatable and funny. I’ll be checking out more content from the great David Boyle.
Top laughs.
On Day 199 at time of writing. Boyle’s a laugh and has convinced me I shouldn’t quit alcohol.
Worth listening to even if you have no alcohol problem
One dark, deviant funny mind. Worth listening to even if you don’t have a drinking problem. Brutally honest. Boyle keep up the good work
Keep with this David
Worth a listen A lot like real life He is wonderfully honest Very funny Also very very real
5 star review for a 5 star drunk
This is a great podcast. Boyle is a drunk bastard with great stories.
Real solid
Start from the start and work your way through. It just gets better and better. So many trips down memory lane. Just a real funny ba$tard
