great idea, Rick and Bruce aren't always there
Malcolm is by far the best interviewer, no question about it. He's engaging, friendly, he knows his stuff about the artist, he asks prying questions that lead to awesome stories. Hats off to Malcolm! I wish he did all the episodes.Bruce and Rick are hit or miss, mostly miss. Bruce is just an average interviewer, but I would expect Rick to be more entertaining. I know he's this chill hippy dude who's open minded and soft spoken, but it doesn't lead to a good interview. He's more of just a therapist repeating the phrase, "Tell me more..." or "Tell me about it..." or "Tell me how it came about". And he constantly repeats "Amazing!" or "So cool!" It takes away weight from the words he's saying because he says these things so often. He starts to sound like a yes man, agreeing with whatever the artist is saying. And I don't know what happened in the Run the Jewels episode, but Rick seemed very disengaged and almost sounded annoyed at times near the beginning. He barely spoke at all which kind of lead to a lot of rambling by El-P and Killer Mike. This is such a great idea for a podcast and I love hearing from the artists, even the ones I'm not familiar with. Once again. hats off to Malcolm, he is GREAT!
Rick Rubin doesn’t have a mic at his house??
Love hearing this interview with Kevin from Tame Impala but what’s up Rick??? You can’t get yourself on a decent microphone for your own show? I’ve been doing remote podcasts with non professionals for two months now and we always seem to be able to get a decent microphone to record both sides of the conversation. You’d think with all that mailbox money that flows into your lap you’d spring for a 100$ usb microphone at the very least.
Esperanza
I used to like Esperanza.. now I LOVE her. One of the most articulate critiques I’ve ever heard. Who knew!!
Great & unique
This podcast is unlike any other starting with the host. Rick Rubin is one of kind in his own way with connections to so many different types of artists that no one but him could host such a podcast. The episode with Robbie Robertson was off the charts cool. Thank you!
Thanks
Thanks so much for the entertainment and awesome information. Woke up stressed out in these day of The Corona Virus this podcast takes me outta my head. Be safe
Great podcast but don’t buy from Raycon
Enjoy the podcast and thought I could rely on its integrity to purchase from an advertiser but Raycon is a dishonest vendor.
Great
Found so much new music from this podcast. Awesome.
Love the podcast
I’m writing this on Rick Rubin’s birthday
Love listening
Amazing insight from legends.
The agony and the ecstasy
This show is about the human experience. It’s not a hermetically sealed montage of virtuosity and formality with artists as gods peering down from on high (albeit everyone involved is spectacular). This show is a conversation between humans about the experience of making this bizarre ineffable thing called art; the vulnerability of it, the luck, and the moments when the spark turns into a flame. Malcom Gladwell and Rick Ruben weave back and fourth between virtuosity, the human, and the universal. This podcast is a valuable contribution to a society obsessed with elevating few and disempowering the rest. Find art in your own life by listening to living breathing people who did it too. Really really well. Bravo. Lily
Rick’s interview of Ozzy
Rick’s interview of Ozzy was terrific! I could endlessly listen to Rick talk to anybody about anything.Robbie Robertson interview utterly fantastic. Thank you.
Too short
Again, with Robbie Robertson, it was barely a conversation. At the beginning you guys were going on and on about how big this one was. Then it’s a paltry 45 mins?? The show is barely realized. Either it needs to be in multi parts — this one could have gone on for 2plus hours. Please PLEASE for the love of music - LONGER
This is SO surprising!
I love how deep and introspective these conversations are between Rick/Malcolm and artist. Their vulnerability and genuineness really comes through in these conversations. This is so refreshing to hear!
Andre 3000 ROCKS!
This white, middleaged, hiphop illiterate woman was blown away by Andre 3000 - his honesty, intelligence, insightfulness and vulnerability. Totally drove me to listen to his music which further wowed me! I wish him a boat load of peace, loving kindness and serenity. One star was taken off ‘cause RR talked and interrupted him too much.
🙌 love these conversations!
Thank you for creating this platform in which artists share their background and stories! I’m especially loving the open talks on mental health.
Amazing duo !
when the most interesting man behind music & my favorite author get to together to have intelligent conversations with other inspiring creatives , I LISTEN !!!
More 3000
Why stop the Andre 3000 interview short?? So good let’s hear the rest!
great discovery!
new favorite podcast! music obsession is my specialty, and listening to anyone talk about the subject is always fun for me. however, i think these episodes should be a touch longer. it seems like a lot of times info is being cut out, or stepped around. RELEASE ANDRE 3000 PART 2! that conversation i legit could have listened to for another 2 hours!! but thank you guys for making something cool, and giving me new nerdy music topics!
Amazinh
Please interview Mount Eerrie!!!! Love this podcast
Make a cup of tea or bourbon for this
This podcast is a listening delight. I enjoy the conversations and insights on what goes into the music and creating. Whoever does the sound for this, 😘. I love the way the voices, laughter and pauses in the conversations are captured. Thank you!
Love this
First one I listened too was the Raconteurs episode. 5 Stars for that alone. Thank you Malcom for great books and podcasts and thank you Rick especially for what you did with the Chili Peppers.
Enjoyable, yet
Insightful, intimate, and thought-provoking conversations interrupted and brought down by Malcolm Gladwell shilling for corporations.
💚💚💚
Needed this podcast and as soon as I found and fell in love with Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast then his books (yes, I’m late— but I’m l here now BISHES!) and now all things Pushkin Industries even his cat 😹. I LOVE IT ALL & thankssss!
