Happy Holidaze Bonus-Christmas Extravaganza Paloozah Episode

I just put a couple of things on to do this recording real quick. But thanks for joining us audience of ten millions of people. We've just kind of thrown this together because we thought we'd want to wish you guys a happy holiday in a new year. Well, I'm a little fearful for you. Although I'm impressed by your very colorful. Antlers, I don't know what you're talking about. They're sparkling. These just popped out of my head. Are those real? Are those ai? Uh? Well, I had them installed this morning, so I have to get a drill gun to get them out because I that.

1:59 Why I sound dirt. Later today, Someone'm gonna ride you with a whip. Well, if everything goes to plan, right, that is on the we start having guests, so who knows. So this is the Sunday before Christmas. So December has flown by. Yes, absolutely, it's gonna be twenty minutes and Christmas Day we'll be here. And I got to say, this whole year I think is flown by. Since we pulled the clock. I started the clock ticking at Halloween. It's just been non stop, non stop, NonStop, and apparently, according to all retailers, Spring is here, Christmas is already over. Just so you know, well, can I tell you not that I'm like, you know, bragging, But December has been a very busy month. So the first weekend John was visiting, so he was here from Saturday through Monday, and that weekend was the start of this big extravaganza, a lighting thing called Glow SF where they take about seven different buildings in San Francis and they illuminate them with videos and you know, really cool, cool graphics. And this for like a two week period, so it's over now. But it started the night before we got here. So we did that the first night, walked around downtown San Francisco looking at all these great buildings that were illuminated. And then the second week of December I had three different holiday parties.

Well that's a step in the right direction for some two. And it's right here anyway. So three different holiday parties in one week, and then that Friday I went to the current theater for holiday show. Apparently this show has been around San Francisco for nineteen years. Started very small in someone's home, and then over the years, through word of mouth, got bigger, bigger, bigger, And this is the first time doing at the current theater, and it is a live show recreating a couple holiday episodes of the TV series The Golden Girls. Oh yes, and all the performers are in drag. Great, hilarious. So I'm not good at flinging open a fan. But to our listeners, what I'm going to be showing you is a fan that I purchased.

4:41 Back it up a little bit, back it up that had been told that a lot. You're right, fabulous. It's a very colorful fan with before characters from The Golden Girls in drag, of course, and the theme song is thank you for being a friend, with this says thank you for being a fan. Cute. So I thought that was very cute. Which episode did they do? There was the episode where the actress Lois and Netelsen came on as a friend of a friend of Dorothy's and we were friends of Dorothy and her character is lesbian and the roommates don't know and during her stay with them forever many days, she falls in love with Rose, the Betty White character. Yes, I remember that, And so that was one of the episodes, and they, you know, the intermission, they came back and did another one but they both were holiday themed, so they recreated the set.

5:33 You know, see, the furniture looked very similar, and the four actors were really good. They really encapsulated the characters that we you know, saw on tv O this year. So I did that. What else? Today, I'm going to go to a holiday concert at Grace Cathedral, which is the top Fairmont where the Fairmont Hotel is the top pop hill. So I've done that for a couple years. I enjoy that, But I've been baking. Wait what you fell out? Oh? Well, you know, like you, I like to cook, but I also like to bake. And I've had a tradition the last several years where I baked bread for two different audiences. One is where I live in my conda.

6:16 We have you know, amazing housekeeping staff and lobby tendance and they're all here seven days a week. And then plus we have on site staff of engineers and so on, and so I baked them mini loaves of bread in different flavors like banana bread or whatever nice. So I'm doing that. I started some last night. I'll do some more today and hand them out. And then I live between two fire stations once like a few blocks that way, once a few blocks that way. So also for the past several years I baked them the regular sized loaves. So last night I baked gingerbread. I did a lemon pound cake with a glaze and chocolate banana loaf. So did the furman get a loaf of you?

6:58 They will after we're done here. So let's just wrap it. Up now if I had a nickel, I've got. A few deliveries to make. Yes, I'll be taking the each each we'll get three loaves of us. So how many total loaves are you making? Do you know yet? Or does it well? For the firefighters at six there? And then I was told that on site staff I was fifteen six big big ones and fifteen small ones. Boy, we're just turning this this holiday special around. Not that it's about not that it's about the size. Well, but yeah, so it's been. And then of course, you know, yesterday I had to do my volunteer work, so I went.

7:42 They were asking for volunteers to help add like a toy drive event where families are coming in, and we were some people were rapping, some people were handing out food, and I was a greeter at the front door and my holiday attire and yeah, welcome families in who you know maybe needed a little help this holiday season. So a lot of people companies donated a lot of you know, toys and things. So a lot of volunteers were there and it was it was a nice afternoon. Super I'm gonna move this out of my way. I'm starting to hallucinate with this. Oh no, said throwing you off. I'll put it right there. Yeah, so it's been a how about anything else going on or you you're ready for the holiday itself?

8:26 Yeah, I mean we already did a fan Oh yeah. Also, we did a family luncheon last weekend because I have some relative my one of my nieces was in from out of town with her husband, and since we couldn't all be together for Thanksgiving or Christmas all of us, we did pick that day into the luncheon and I cooked. I did a feast of Mexican food. Why you following out? You know I cooked, well, you cooked, but I mean doing a lot of cooking. Let me tell you. After the first time ever, I made posle and then and then uh, I served ostavas, and then I started with a shrimp cevicha. Which I had made that by I'm so impressed.

9:08 And then for dessert, I made a terrest. Lechis cake shut the front door. So I made it all. It took me two days of cooking. So first time on the trestlechie cake, first ches, and first some of pasole. I know you're a fan of those because you buy them sometimes from a certain bakeries. Yeah, there's a bakery in the Mission District of San Francisco that unfortunately they're not there anymore. But that was the bad one. I'd never Now did you grow up? Did you know about trest lechers cake? I mean, being the war I did? I didn't. They're so sweet, They're just not thinks something that I aspired to. But yeah, I mean, I'm not going to refuse a piece. No, growing up, I had never heard of it, never had it. And then then as adult like, oh what is this? What is that? Trest legs three milks? Never knew it was a Mexican dessertly just so, yeah, if there's an opportunity to buy one for an I'll do it.

10:00 But I decide, well, let me try and make one, and I'm not gonna lie. Turned out pretty darn good. Don't lie and the Bizola pretty darn good. Both recipes are keepers. Okay, well, I just want to fill in real quick what I've been doing, because you know me, the demure ones, sitting at home in the dark with no lights on. Basically, yeah, functioning bathrooms. Now, yes, well that's done. That's my life. So the good news is that there's been a lot of entertaining and I've been doing a lot of cooking too, and actually we're not done with the entertaining. So a couple of nights ago, we had the girls over. Alex and Jill and Alicia came over. I made them one of our Patty Ginich recipes from PBS. She's a wonderful Mexican cook who does all this. I might have mentioned her before, and she actually even said on her YouTube page when I said I'm making this tonight, Patty, she said, enjoy.

10:44 So of course we're close friends. Now, just so you know, so, why is your name Joy? Now? What's enjoy? Enjoy your enchiladas. So that was a brand new recipe. And then last night we went to another friend's house for a little quick, impromptu get together which lasts until about midnight. Started at six So that's how that went. And as we speak, we have another guest coming in Victoria's coming to stay with us for a few days through Christmas. Nice. Today, this afternoon we're going to another party in Alicia and Simon's house. We're doing a pre holiday dinner. I guess that's today. Then on Wednesday we are actually going over to Jonathan and Sonia's house for Christmas Day dinner. Then New Year's Day, I'm actually hosting a brunch. You're welcome to fly on over and join us if you want to.

11:26 Wow. Yeah. So it's been a lot of cooking and a lot of entertaining, and a lot of parties and things. So it's been really a whirlwind tour. I mean, a lot going on. So yeah, I've got more. Yeah, next week, I've got more things coming out. I've got three parties between Saturday and Sunday. Well, I've got five parties, but my three are bigger than your five. Thing, we'll try putting five into three sometimes, that's what he said, wow, but down into the butcher. Yeah. So it's it's been. It's a busy month. And the bonus is that our office all always closes between Christmas and New Year's Yeah, so there's that time off.

12:07 Plus I had accumulated vacation days I hadn't taken this year, and if I don't take them, I lose them. Yep, so I pepper them into December. So I think in the whole month of December, I've worked like four days. Good for you, so where I don't go back until January second. Good for you. And you know what, you deserve it, dude, You're like, dude, Sorry, I never seen you married, Dude, Mary, you deserve it. No. I think it's important because we all work so hard. And yeah, I too realized. I didn't realize that. You know, if you don't use these hours at work, they just basically pay you out. So it's like, well, no, I'll take a freaking day off instead. Yeah. So I'm taking the two days after Christmas off and I'm going to find someplace else to just take off. Yeah. Yeah.

12:48 So now you up in Redondo the whole time, are you getting down to uh. No, it's Redondo this year. Okay, We're not going down to no home screing. It's just too much going on here. And so it is what it is. But it's finally turned cool. Here. I'm very happy hence my dog scarf. Also, thank you Christine Breman, my sister in law, for knitting this for the dogs. But it fits me perfectly. So wait, she knitted for the dogs and you're wearing it. Point Well, I'm just saying, I mean, if it's. The dogs should be wearing, they have their own other scarves. I'm just I'm doing this for the visual input packed. Yes, yeah, so's it's been a busy month, and can I do a little plug for something?

Between twenty twenty and twenty twenty three. Yeah right, And I think I'm really proud of that work that we did with with John, the three of us, and because we did some amazing episodes. You know, some were very silly, some were we took you know, a series of topics and had some serious discussions and we revealed a lot.

14:13 So it's a little bit everything and a lot of laughs. And actually, you know. That's not a bad idea, Garous. You want to kind of plug the holiday is the holiday episodes or all of them? Well, I mean all that's fifty plus, but yeah, if we have holiday ones, yeah, definitely we can. I'll have to. I have all the artwork. Be fun to revisit those, But no, I just want to put a plug in because just because we're not doing it anymore doesn't mean that people can't listen to them. I mean they're in the. Archives, true, And I actually get reports sometimes about how many people are actually downloading those episodes still, and it's pretty impressive, I have to say, if I do so so ourselves, it's pretty impressive that people are still downloading those episodes. Well, yeah, because it was a lot of love and effort put into it. Yeah, And of course you know we have this episode with this we've done how many have we released episode so far?
