Engaging the Faithful: The Role of Carolina Catholic Media

A Journey of Evangelization in Charlotte 2019-Present

Before 2019, there was no local electronic media voice for the Catholic Church in Charlotte. This changed with the establishment of Carolina Catholic Media, which has become instrumental in spreading the Good News within the Diocese of Charlotte and across the Carolinas ever since.

If Jesus Christ were on earth today, how would He spread His message of salvation? Would He use television, radio, newspapers, direct mail, billboards, DVDs, or would Jesus use the internet and digital platforms like YouTube, Podcasts, email, and text messages? We believe Jesus would use as many means as possible, and that is why we diversified to offer a wide variety of electronic media tools to evangelize and promote Gospel values.

Over the years we have constantly discussed the history, vision, and mission of Carolina Catholic Media (Carolina Catholic Radio) and how we can best serve the Charlotte Diocese and Catholics across the Carolinas as a Laity Apostolate.  We have engaged with many members of both clergy and laity to identify areas of need where Carolina Catholic Media can provide solutions and add value as an independent Catholic Media supplier.  We have utilized an official Advisory Board which has included category specialists for the Clergy, Catholic Education, Parish Life, Development, Business, and Technology.

These efforts underscore Carolina Catholic Media’s commitment to leveraging modern communication tools to foster faith, provide spiritual nourishment, and engage the Catholic community in Charlotte. Through innovative media strategies and collaborative endeavors, Carolina Catholic Media has always aimed to spread the Gospel and promote Gospel values effectively.

Beginning this week I will be taking a look back at some of the many topics covered and achievements accomplished in the hopes that it will resonate with you to identify someone you know who can help us continue our Carolina Catholic Apostolic Mission into the future for many years to come.   Let’s begin with our inaugural year 2019…

1/31/19: Signed on AM1270 Catholic Radio Charlotte. 100% Listener Supported. Started with a dedicated group of 12 volunteers on the Board of Advisors.

4/19: Sponsored an UNPLANNED 3 Screen Movie Night promotion attended by 300.

4/19: Volunteer Board of Advisors grows to 33 members.

5/19: Launched the Carolina Catholic Mobile App featuring an extensive lineup of Catholic Prayers, a Learning section, National and Local Catholic news, talk and Catholic Music.

7/19: AM1270 begins broadcasting all Local programs from WHVN Studios on N. Tryon Street.

8/19: AM1270 Catholic Radio Charlotte begins local streaming online at CarolinaCatholicRadio.org and the NEW Carolina Catholic Radio App.

09/19: Appeared at Eucharistic Congress 9/7

10/19: Carolina Catholic Music Night at the Abbey - 10/26

10/19: Movie Monday Event – Faustina Love & Mercy 10/28

12/19: Movie Monday Event - Faustina Love and Mercy Encore 12/2

12/19: Advisory Board exceeds 50 members!

FEBRUARY—MONTH OF THE HOLY FAMILY

The month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family. The special devotion which proposes the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the model of virtue of all Christian households began in the 17th century. It started almost simultaneously in Canada and France: the Association of the Holy Family was founded in Montreal in 1663, and by the Daughters of the Holy Family in Paris in 1674. This devotion soon spread and in 1893 Leo XIII expressed his approval of a feast under this title and himself composed part of the Office. On account of the flight into Egypt this feast has been observed by the Copts from early times. The feast was welcomed by succeeding Pontiffs as an efficacious means for bringing home to the Christian people the example of the Holy Family at Nazareth, and by the restoration of the true spirit of family life, stemming, in some measure, the evils of present-day society.

In the words of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII, "Nothing truly can be more salutary or efficacious for Christian families to meditate upon than the example of this Holy Family, which embraces the perfection and completeness of all domestic virtues."
