Faith, Family, Remembrance, and History
The traditions that connect generations
Dear Friends,
As we move through October, I find myself reflecting on four things that have shaped the Catholic faith across generations: faith, family, remembrance, and history. Each reminds us that we are part of something much larger than ourselves—a living tradition entrusted to us and passed on to those who follow.
October’s devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary offers a beautiful place to begin. The Rosary has brought families together in prayer for centuries, helping parents and grandparents pass on not simply the words of a prayer, but a way of living with faith, hope, and trust in God. Its history also reminds us of the profound influence that prayer has had on the life of the Church and the course of history.
As we approach All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, we are invited to remember those who came before us. The saints, like St.John Paul ll, inspire us through their example, while our prayers for the faithful departed remind us of the bonds of love that death does not erase. We remember parents, grandparents, friends, and all those whose faith and sacrifices helped make us who we are today.
Family remains at the heart of this inheritance. Recent discussions in Rome about marriage and family life remind us of the Church’s continuing responsibility to accompany couples, support parents, and help young people discover the beauty and responsibility of family life. In a world of rapid change, strong families rooted in faith remain an essential foundation for the future.
History, too, has lessons worth remembering. From Christopher Columbus’s voyage across the Atlantic in 1492 to the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, the story of Europe and the wider world reflects centuries of exploration, commerce, cultural encounters, and religious conflict. These events deserve to be understood in their historical context, with an appreciation for both the achievements and the struggles of those who shaped our past. History helps us understand not only where we have come from, but also the responsibilities we carry today.
These themes are especially meaningful to me as we continue the work of Carolina Catholic. Although the future of AM1270 remains uncertain, our commitment to sharing Catholic stories, preserving our programming, and connecting people with the life of the Church continues through our digital ministry.
I would like to hear from you. What Catholic traditions have been most meaningful in your family? Is there a favorite saint, a special devotion, or a loved one whose example continues to inspire you? Your stories and reflections matter, and I welcome you to share them with me.
Thank you for being part of the Carolina Catholic family. May Our Lady of the Rosary guide our homes, may the saints inspire our lives, and may we always remember those whose faith made our own possible.
God bless you and your families,
David
