"Keep America Beautiful," the campaign with the crying Native American standing on a pile of garbage, wasn't started by environmentalists. It was funded by Koch, Pepsi, and major packaging manufacturers to shift the blame for the plastic crisis away from corporations and onto you.
They created the single-use packaging problem. They lobbied against bottle deposit laws. Then they handed you a recycling bin and called it your responsibility.

The plastic patches floating in the ocean? They made that. And they made sure you'd feel guilty about it instead of them.
