Welcome to Volsteadland!

About

Amy and Heather having a cocktail at a bar

Volsteadland was born out of a deep curiosity about Minneapolis's shadowy past—and an even deeper love of true crime and cocktails.

This independently-produced podcast dives into the gritty underbelly of 1920s–1940s Minneapolis, an era overflowing with mobsters, bootleggers, dirty cops, and even dirtier politicians. At the heart of it all? The infamous Isadore Blumenfeld, better known as Kid Cann—a man who ruled the city with bribes in one hand and brass knuckles in the other.

What started as a pandemic project quickly snowballed into a full-blown obsession. With a cocktail (or two) in hand, Amy and Heather combed through newspaper archives, dusty old books, court records, and personal accounts to piece together the forgotten tales of the city’s criminal heyday. The result? A podcast that’s equal parts history lesson, crime caper, and hangout session.

Whether you're into gangsters, vintage scandals, or just love a good story told with flair—welcome to Volsteadland.

Amy

Producer, researcher, and the voice behind the scenes

Amy's the one who dragged this whole wild ride into existence. A Minneapolis native and true crime junkie, she has a knack for unearthing long-buried stories and a love of all things vintage (including cocktails and curse words). She’s also a podcast producer by trade, so you can thank her for making this all sound so good. Amy enjoys long walks through newspaper archives and short sprints to the liquor cabinet.

Heather

Co-host, comic relief, and your favorite friend with a conspiratorial whisper

Heather brings curiosity, warmth, and an unfiltered charm to every episode. She wasn’t expecting to fall into the Kid Cann rabbit hole, but now that she’s in, she’s not climbing out anytime soon. A fan of good stories, bad behavior, and everything in between, Heather keeps the conversation flowing and the sass levels high.
