Five big events are having the Canadian political sphere totally a-buzz.
Canada's 9/11 commemoration was an appropriately solemn and thoughtful ceremony. Former Prime Minister Jean Chrétien brought a nation to its feet when he ensured that one of the day's messages and lessons would not be left unrepeated.
The Leader of the Opposition went to the United States, finally got his shot at cable TV, and performed adequately enough to make a decent impression over there and earn positive reviews at home (with those not keenly aware of his preceding 22-year political track record). We look at what we can learn from this.
Not only is the Toronto international film festival underway, but the prime minister of Canada has used his convening power, gained in his past life in banking, to bring the world's deepest pockets to the great white North to promote greater international investment here
As the prime Minister gets ready to head to Europe, there is teasing of an announcement of a formally deeper membership-style association with the EU. Canada's conservative movement instantly has a meltdown at the mere idea of taking a formal step further away from the United States.
And finally, the leaders of the province of Quebec's political parties are getting ready for two evenings of debate this week, specifically on Tuesday and Wednesday.
