We got a lot of insight into Team Canada's prowess in the negotiating room with Team USA, thanks to the deal that was brokered to finally get the Gordie Howe International Bridge open.
No doubt, it was an attempt at a shakedown, and the Conservatives — whose entire political strategy appears to be hoping the PM, thus Canada, fails spectacularly and telling us he (or it) has regardless — wasted no time repeating their mistake of swallowing everything the U.S. administration says (which is crafted first for its base's domestic consumption) as truth and then running with it.
However, what the deal actually is shows that the prime minister engaged his risk managerial experience while reinforcing one of our hypotheses about Canada's trade position vis-à-vis the USA, now that we've seen it "negotiate" with others (including Iran).
