Many pieces of the puzzle to get a bitumen pipeline from Alberta to the West Coast came together and were announced yesterday.
The PM was first in British Columbia to announce the Canada-British Columbia Cooperative Prosperity Agreement, touted as a multi-billion-dollar resource deal. During that time, it was announced that the tanker ban moratorium for northern BC would be respected.
The Alberta Premier held her own event in which the UCP seems to have found a new major client for Alberta Gas: AI data centres.
And both the provincial and federal governments end up swallowing themselves whole on the concept that a bitumen pipeline to the west coast project would require a major private sector proponent spearheading and financing it.
Yes Canada, it looks we are buying yet another pipeline!
PM Mark Carney is faced with task of explaining to Canadians how them being on the hook for likely about $18 billion more is in our best interests and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will have to explain to Albertans (particularly, the separatists) why $18b from them, while seemingly following 'The Trudeau Approach' is a great achievement this time around, when it wasn't the last.
