Founder & Energy Efficiency Consultant

I’m Ben, and my intent is to help lift industry understanding, expectations, and outcomes, so that better buildings become normal, not exceptional.

Most buildings don’t underperform because people don’t care.

They underperform because decisions are made without a clear understanding of how buildings actually behave.

When performance is treated as an afterthought, compromises are locked in early and those compromises affect comfort, health, energy use, and resilience for decades to come.

My work exists to change that.

I believe that building performance should inform design, not be checked at the end. That energy efficiency is not a constraint, but a design input. And that better outcomes come from clarity, not complexity.

Raising expectations doesn’t make projects harder. It makes trade-offs visible, decisions informed, and outcomes intentional.

Better buildings are not achieved through compliance alone. They are achieved when designers, builders, and homeowners understand what matters, why it matters, and how to act on it early.

That is the work I’m here to support.

#47 | NCC 2025, Passive House and AI with Ben Walsham

Ben Walsham (founder of Arkata) returns to the show to unpack the chaotic rollout of NCC 2025, the reality of high-performance design in volume building, and why building physics hit differently in tropical climates. From AI-driven workflow automation to deep-dive window frame science, this episode cuts through regulatory confusion to focus on building healthier, higher-performing homes.
