The Episode Alerts feature (also called Listener Episode Emails) automatically emails your subscribers whenever you publish a new episode — so your most engaged listeners never miss a release. This article covers the most common questions about how it works.
Available on the Pro plan and above. Episode Alerts is currently in an invite-only beta — you can request access right from the Episode Alerts page in your dashboard.
The basics
What does this feature do?
When you publish a new episode and we import it, we automatically send an email to the subscribers on your Podpage mailing list letting them know it's live. You don't have to write or send anything — it happens on its own.
Can I send a newsletter or one-off broadcast?
No. Episode Alerts only sends automated emails when you publish a new episode — it's not a general newsletter, broadcast, or campaign tool. If you need to send custom or one-off emails to your list, a dedicated email platform is the right fit.
When do emails get sent?
We send an email whenever we import a new episode of your show. Turning the feature on won't email your list about your existing back catalog — the next new episode we import is the first one your listeners will hear about.
How do I turn it on?
In your dashboard, go to Autopilot → Email Listeners to get started.
Your subscribers
Who receives these emails?
We send to the subscribers on your Podpage mailing list. You can see exactly who's on it under Engage Listeners → Build a Mailing List — see Where do I find my mailing list?
Can I import subscribers from another tool?
Yes. If you have subscribers who've already opted in to hear from you somewhere else, let us know and we'll help you import them into your Podpage list.
How do you keep my list clean?
We run every email address through ZeroBounce, an email validation service, before sending. Invalid, risky, and spam-trap addresses are filtered out. This protects your deliverability and keeps your sending reputation healthy.
How the emails work
What do the emails look like?
Each email announces your new episode with the subject line "New episode: [your episode title]" and links listeners straight to it.
Can I customize the email design?
Not at this time. The email layout and design are fixed, so you can't change how the emails look.
Where do replies go?
Emails are sent through our system, but we set the reply-to address to your podcast's contact email. So when a listener replies, it lands right in your inbox. Make sure you have a contact email set on your podcast.
Can I preview an email before it goes out?
Yes — you can send yourself a test anytime. Go to Autopilot → Email Listeners and click Send Preview Email.
How do unsubscribes work?
Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and we honor it immediately. You don't have to manage any of this yourself — unsubscribed listeners are automatically removed from future sends.
Limits and plans
How many emails can I send?
There's a monthly cap on total emails: 500 emails on Pro and 5,000 on Elite. Sending email has a real cost, which is why dedicated email services exist and charge for it. Our goal is to give podcasters a simple, built-in way to keep listeners in the loop.
What if my list is bigger than the limit?
If your mailing list is larger than what your plan supports, a dedicated email platform may serve you better. You can export your Podpage list and import it there anytime.
Deliverability and safety
What happens if emails bounce or get marked as spam?
To protect your sending reputation (and everyone else's), we automatically monitor bounces and spam complaints. If they climb too high, we'll pause your alerts and reach out so we can look into it together.
Tip: Before your next episode goes live, send yourself a preview from Autopilot → Email Listeners and double-check your podcast's contact email so listener replies reach you.
