Hello and welcome to Self Talk. I'm your host, me, Dr. Ray. Another episode, one I'm excited about. It's about letting go. What does that mean? How do you do it? It's going to be a fun show. I think it's going to be a life-changing show if you adhere to the principles I'm talking about. Thanks for being a part. I appreciate all of my listeners, and please share this show. Don't forget, you know, check out my college, International College of Ministry, at icmcollege.org. Let's get started. Thank you, Lord. Heavenly Father, thank you for everyone listening to this show. I pray that the Holy Spirit will give me the right words to say, and I pray that ears and hearts will be open to hear your truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
So as long as I can remember, I've heard the expression “Let go and let God.” Uh, it's a, in the, if you're ever familiar with the organization called Al-Anon, it's one of their slogans. And what does it mean, “Let go and let God,” and is it– does it work, and how does it work, and how does that actually play out in our life? Well, I want to tell you something. When you're able to actually perform this cliché or bring this cliché to full manifestation, powerful things happen. Let me share a couple of scriptures with you because I think this could be life-changing if you catch on, you know, catch on to this principle. We have in, uh, we have in the book of, uh, Peter, 1 Peter 5:7, “Give all your worries and cares to the Lord, for He cares about you.” Okay. Proverbs 3:5: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding." Okay. Uh, there's another scripture I want to share with you, and that is, uh, coming from the notes that I had with you, and this one says, um, “Commit–” Psalms 37:5, “Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him and He will do it.” Now that's a very important scripture.
What happens is there's so many times we want to control and fix. You know, there's situations that, that are beyond my control, but I want to control it. There are people that are beyond my control, but I want to fix them. I want to fix them because I don't like the way they're acting, the way they're affecting me. I don't like a situation, so I want to fix it. But what happens is, so many times we move beyond our responsibility and start, so to speak, stepping on God's toes. Letting go and letting God means trusting Him with people, with situations, with circumstances. Maybe you've got a marriage that's in trouble, and you've done all you can do. Maybe you have a child who's, uh, doing things they shouldn't be doing. Okay, a child maybe is involved with drugs or some other really bad issue. Maybe you've got a situation at work. But you see, letting go doesn't mean forgetting about it. And there's people we need to let go. And there's relationships we need to let go, but it doesn't mean forget it. See, the world says, "Well, when you let go, that means you're saying, I wash my hands of you. I forget you. I'm going to forget all about you." When you let go of a person or a relationship or a situation, and you give it to God, and you trust God with it, the scripture says He will do it.
What I have found out with God, and I've been walking this walk a very long time, I believe that God is waiting for us to trust Him in certain circumstances, trust Him with certain people, trust Him in certain situations. When God knows that you have released this problem, this issue that you cannot solve. Maybe you're not called to solve it, but you release this problem, this issue, this person, this relationship. You literally give it to God and say, "God, I trust you with my spouse. I release them to you. I trust you with my son. I release him to you, Lord. I trust you with my job, with this situation, with my boss. I release it to you. I let go. I give this to you. Lord, I'm trusting you fully. I'm giving you this situation. I'm giving you, uh, my fear. I'm giving you my anxiety. I'm giving you things that are just hurting me, that are worrying me, that are causing me stress. Lord, I'm releasing it to you. I'm letting go because I'm trusting you.” And I want to tell you something, folks. When you make that move, God moves. I believe that God waits for us to let go. He waits for us to fully trust Him because as long as we're in charge and we want to handle it, I believe God backs off and lets us do it. I believe God takes the attitude and says, "Well, you think you can handle this? Go for it. And when you finally get tired and burn out and frustrated, and you're ready to let go and trust me, I'll be there for you.”
But until you get to that point, I think God folds His arms and waits for us. You see, folks, I've seen this principle work over and over again. It's where you're in a situation where you need help. You don't know what else to do, and you say, "Lord, I give it to you." Now, listen. And I mean, you say the words. It's, it's a, it's a mental ascent. It's a verbal ascent. “Lord, I give you this situation. I've tried to handle it, Lord. It's beyond me. Lord, I trust you with this. I give it to you, Father. I release my hold on this situation. I release my control over this situation, this person, this anxiety, this fear, whatever it is, I release it into your hands. Father, I trust you completely.” And scripture says, "Trust in Him, and He will do it." Commit your ways unto the Lord. Maybe there just– it's a, it's a situation that you're, you're doing the best you can, but you just don't know how it's going to turn out. Commit it to the Lord. Trust in Him. And I think it means literally speaking it out. Telling God, "God, I am trusting you with this,” you fill in the blank. “God, I am trusting you with this person, with my boss, with this situation. Lord, I'm trusting you. I release it.” Now, let me tell you what happens as human beings. We tend to pick it back up, do we not? We release it. Next thing you know, we're fretting over it. We're worried about it. We're trying to figure out a solution. We haven't really released it. Or we release it, we take it back. We give it to God, we take it back. We give it again, we take it back again. That's human nature. And I'm not condemning you for doing that. I'm kind of laughing out loud because I've done it. We've all done it.
But even when you take it back, “Lord, forgive me. I took that situation back. I took that person back. I took that problem back. I took that fear back. God, forgive me.” One more time. “God, I release it to you. I'm trusting you, and I'm really, Lord, this time I'm letting go. This time, Lord, I'm really surrendering to you.” And next thing you know, you take it back again. What– Do the same thing. “Lord, forgive me. I'm sorry, God. Please forgive me. I release this to you. I release him to you. I release her to you. I release this lack to you. I release this need to you, Lord. I'm trusting you. I'm believing in you. I am believing in you, Father. I'm going to wait for you. I'm going to wait for your response.” And when you do this in your heart, and it may take some practice, and it may take some do-overs like I've just taught. I've seen it time and time again when God will move in this situation.
So many times as human beings, we want to be in control, and we start taking ownership and control of situations, of people, even of our finances and our job. You see, everything belongs to God. The Bible says again, the earth is His and the fullness thereof, all the gold and silver, all the cattle on a thousand hills…” it belongs to God. When we trust Him and give Him full ownership over our life and ownership over those people that are adversely affecting us, and God knows that we are trusting Him and we release it to Him, that's when God moves. That's when He moves supernaturally. And that's when you start seeing the hand of God intervene in your life. So practice this. Practice letting go and trusting Him. He is trustworthy. He's trustworthy. And it's, it's, sometimes, I have to be honest, it's kind of scary because, you know, you're probably like me. I, I stay up at night trying to figure out ways to fix this, to fix this relationship, to fix this other person, to fix this financial need. I, I'm figuring out ways to fix it, ways to do things better, but I'm not really trusting God as my source. Now, yeah, we need to do our part. We need to do our job. We need to do our due diligence. We need to work hard, be honest, be faithful, be a faithful servant. We need to do our part, but trust God with the results. I'm telling you, your faith and your trust in God moves His hand. I've seen it over and over again, and there's a lot of people that will testify about this. I've seen marriages healed, uh, drug addicts healed and restored and set free. I've seen financial problems get solved. I've seen people get healed by trusting and believing and releasing it to God.
Let go and let God is a lot more than a cliché. It is a life-changing principle. In all our ways acknowledge Him. The paths of a righteous man are ordered by the Lord. When we acknowledge Him in all our ways, our ways become directed by Him. And of course, this means being led by the Holy Spirit. It means trust. It means faith. And it takes practice, and it takes exercise. But I believe with all my heart that you are capable of doing this. And I hope this has made sense to you because I think the principle is extremely important for all of us to let go, let God, by trusting Him with all our heart and all our might and all our soul. Trusting Him. I want to pray for you right now because I know you listening to me, you have situations in your life. You have things that you're going through. We all do. Heavenly Father, forgive us for holding on to what belongs to you. Father, you own everything. Father, we let go. We let go, Father. We trust you, Lord. We choose to trust you now. We trust you with - and you fill in the blank. Whoever is listening, we fill in the blank - Lord, I trust you with… I thank you, Father, that you have it. By an act of my will, by an act of faith. I release this to you. I trust you to handle it. I trust you that you have it. You've heard my prayers. You've heard my request. I commit my ways to you. I trust you with this, Father. I believe in you for this, Father. I trust you, Lord. I need your help. I've tried it on my own. I've come to the end of my rope. I cannot do it without you, Lord. Lord, I trust you. I let go, and I let you handle it. Thank you, Lord. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. Amen.
So, I hope this has ministered to you. I hope that, uh, letting go and letting God - it's something that we can practice. Do not worry if you mess it up. You, you know, maybe you let go of a particular worry or fear. Next thing you know, you're worrying, and you're afraid again. Maybe you let go of a relationship that you're struggling with. Next thing you know, you're struggling again with that relationship. But something happens when you truly let it go. In your spirit, there's a peace that can come on you. There's a peace that passes all understanding that the Bible talks about. By releasing your burden to the Lord - the Bible says in Peter, "Cast your burdens upon the Lord” - when you let go and release this burden to the Lord, there's a supernatural peace that can hit your heart. And again, you may have to do it over and over again, but again, I believe our Father loves us so much, when He knows that we have released it to Him, we take our hands off of it, that's when His hands begin to move in your favor. Amen. Thank you for listening to Self Talk. I'm, I'm Dr. Ray. Ray Self. Don't forget, you know, subscribe, download, share, all the cool stuff that makes the podcast go.
