Prince Harry Admits Past “Mistakes” as He Speaks Out on Antisemitism

Prince Harry has spoken about the rise of anti Semitism in the UK in a new article, saying he is acutely aware of his own past mistakes as he urged people not to direct hatred toward Jewish communities. Writing for The New Statesman, the Duke of Sussex reflected on growing concerns following violent incidents targeting Jewish communities in Britain. With the UK terror threat level recently raised to severe, Harry wrote, across the country, we are seeing a deeply troubling rise in anti Semitism.

0:41 Jewish communities, families, children, ordinary people are being made to feel unsafe in the very places they call home. That should alarm us, but also unite us, because hatred directed a people for who they are and what they believe is not protest, it is prejudice. Recent incidents, including lethal violence in London and Manchester, have brought this into sharp and deeply troubling focus. The Duke also directly acknowledged the controversy surrounding his decision to wear a Nazi uniform to a costume party in two thousand and five, and the incident for which he later publicly apologized. Harry wrote, I am acutely aware of my own past mistakes, thoughtless actions for which I have apologized, taken responsibility, and learned from that experience informs my conviction that clarity matters now more than ever, at a time when confusion and the distortion of truth are doing real harm, even when speaking plainly is not without consequence. Harry also called for restraint and responsibility during protests connected to the conflict in the Middle East.

1:38 It requires responsibility from all of us, he wrote. We cannot answer injustice with more injustice. If we do, we don't end the cycle we extended. The only way to break it is to refuse to pass it on. The Duke acknowledged that what he described as deep and justified alarm over the death toll in Gaza and Lebanon, but warned that criticism of governments must not become a hostility towards entire groups of people. Harry wrote, we have now seen how legitimate protest against state actions in the Middle East does exist alongside hostility toward Jewish communities at home. He added, nothing whether criticism of a government or the reality of violence and destruction can ever justify hostility toward an entire people of faith. The Duke also stressed the importance of legitimate criticism when governments act without accountability and in ways that raise serious questions under international humanitarian law.

2:31 For ITV Chris Ship writes, given he lives on the other side of the Atlantic, should Prince Harry be sharing his concerns about anti Semitism in the country he left six years ago, and did he intend his intervention to coincide or even clash with his father's visit to the Jewish community in North London. Harry believes he gets to see things and meet people that, much like the royal family he left, gave him global perspective that few others get. He is not Jewish nor Muslim, and given that he doesn't live in the Middle East, his detractors will say he should not have a platform to speak on issues such as this, and perhaps he should stick to areas like the military or veterans where he does have some lived experience. But inasmuch as his home as a royal court in Montecito, the Duke of Sussex has concluded that staying silent is the wrong choice. Harry doesn't want to stand on the edge of a football pitch with no voice.

Much of the money reportedly came from a high profile fundraising gala held in London in twenty twenty three. I saw I was told the BBC it was difficult optically to do anything high profile like that. Again. The report also notes that Princess Eugenie stepped down earlier this year as a patron of Anti Slavery International, another separate charity focused on modern slavery.

According to Anderson's book, Camilla did object to Kate's working class roots and believed in aristocrat with homegrown blue blood would be preferable to a descendant of coal miners whose mother had grown up in public housing and once worked as a flight attendant. Anderson also claimed Camilla had concerns about Kate's mother, Carol Middleton, who was portrayed in parts of the British press as socially ambitious. He wrote, Camilla, who felt she knew a schema when she saw one, feared her mother.

I think within a matter of a couple of years it has become pretty clear to Camilla that she would have to contend with Kate.
