Amazon Drone Delivery Backlash, AI Drone Swarms & Prison Drone Fails

Boston provides another reminder that rapidly deploying new technology inevitably produces operational lessons. The Boston Police Department launched a Drone as a First Responder program in partnership with Motorola Solutions and BRINC. Within days, one of the drones came down onto a parked Mazda 3, causing more than $500 in damage. Fortunately, nobody was in the car. The owner returned home to discover a note explaining that the police drone had struck his vehicle. Max emphasizes that accidents will occur and that the important question is whether organizations have a safety-management system capable of learning from them.

Artificial intelligence and autonomous warfare produce one of the episode’s most serious discussions. Anthropic reported discovering users employing Claude as a software-engineering assistant in the development of drone swarm and attack-drone technology.
