How To Take A Vacation As An Entrepreneur | Ep.53

How To Take A Vacation As An Entrepreneur | Ep.53

I know what you might be thinking, vacation as an entrepreneur can feel like an impossibility, especially if you have no or a very small team. And because you love what you do, well, maybe you think being switched ON even during your vacation is no problem.

That ironic joke that you quit your 9-5 to work 24/7 in your own business is something that a lot of entrepreneurs experience. But as someone who actually worked non-stop (lol) BEFORE I became a full-time entrepreneur, for me this wasn’t an option, but more so a trap to fall into.

As I head for a 2-week vacation, I wanted to let you in on a few things I did to help me prepare so I can actually unplug while my business continues to run. YUP!

It’s possible to take a break AND continue to have your business moving forward. One is not mutually exclusive of the other.

But it does require some preparation. Tune in to my last podcast before vacation to learn HOW!

See you again on Thursday, July 13th.

Happy vacationing, T xx

Theresa Lambert:

One of the things that I keep hearing, as an entrepreneur I keep seeing, and maybe you've seen it as well, is this saying that, you know, you quit your nine to five job to work 24/7 As an entrepreneur, and honestly, I always laugh about it, because there was a lot of truth to it. And then at the same time, I used to work so much when I was in my career in hotels, that actually becoming an entrepreneur allowed me to work a lot less. But having said that, what ended up happening throughout the years is that life and work just starts to blend so much because we love what we do, we're passionate about what we do. And the thing that has become kind of scarce over the year, use us as vacations. And so I wanted to talk about that. Because literally, this is the last episode that drops before I go on vacation. And I also decided along with that, that I'm going to take a one month season break. And I'm going to start season two, second week of July. So we're gonna take a little bit of a break, and then I'll be back with new content, regrouping, doing all those things. We just had the one year anniversary last week, which was great. But I really got to the point. And I think it really sank in even deeper in the last week for me as I've been packing up and saying my final goodbyes to Whistler make my way through a cross Canada trip with one of my best friends from Germany. And I'm really ready for a break, I'm ready to take a vacation. And so I wanted to touch base on this and give you some of the things that I have done to get myself set up and prepare to be able to actually take a vacation and take a break. And to be honest, I believe that that is so so important one you deserve a weekend to you deserve vacations throughout the year, you deserve a break, you deserve to take your long weekends when there's public holidays, like you actually are allowed to design your business the way you want not just allowed but you are in charge. Yet, we often find ourselves in these situations where we feel like we can't or will let people down. So I'm gonna rapid fire this, this is going to be a short, sweet and juicy episode to inspire you around some of the things that I've done to set myself up to actually be able to unplug for a couple of weeks while I am experiencing this once in a lifetime trip with one of my best friends, which is really, really cool. So the first thing I did was actually reach out to all of my clients. And I what I did was I gave an extension of two weeks on all of my existing contracts, meaning that I'm taking the two week vacation. And I'm actually extending the contract for two weeks. So during those two weeks, I'm not going to be responding to messages, I'm not going to be hopping on calls. This is the first time that I'm doing that in the past, I actually continued to do the few calls or tried and like you know, have longer calls or jobs to to call times around my vacation. But in this case, I was like you know what, this actually feels really good for me. So if you have a service based business, people are with you on contracts, and you're taking a vacation and you don't have a vacation clause in your contract, which is by the way, something that I am going to be implementing, I believe moving forward gave me something to think about then this is a way of doing it. You can give an extension on your contract by two weeks, and then all three weeks, however long you take the vacation and then that way your clients are taken care of. So that was the first thing that I did. Now, the second thing that I did was really get prepared, right like my business is running. I'm building a community online, and I really love being present and I actually love taking you behind the scenes. So while I will be on my Instagram stories, and I will be sharing some What I'm doing, I'm also going to take a lot of days where I'm unplugging. But the other thing that I did was actually scheduled out my content, not just for the time that I'm away on vacation, there's a little less content going down, but also for when I'm back for a few more weeks, so that essentially, when I get back from my vacation, and I'm getting back into the swing of things, things are already rolling in there. And I have my team who's going to be posting and who's going to be there to support the community, when I can't, and I think this is something where a lot of us get hung up, like if we are a personal brand. If we are all business, then how can we possibly have somebody else do some of these things for us. And this is when you have to learn to let go. So prepare, schedule out your content, if you don't have a team, you could use a scheduler to schedule out your content if you want to continue to post and engage with your community. So that is one thing that I like to do it. And I really love this part of my life, I love being on social media. But I also want to take some breaks. And so by doing it this way, this allows me to do that. Third thing I did, I was actually planning originally to record all podcast episodes ahead of time, before I was going on this trip and up until the end of June or early July. But then as I was sitting, I really felt like you know what it would actually be really timely to take a season's break, and then come back in July. So I decided to do that. But if you do have a podcast that drops weekly episodes, or maybe more, you can also re record your episodes, which I do a lot I batch just like a batch content, I batch podcast episodes. And then that way, I'm working a little bit ahead of time. And again, my team can schedule out the emails, schedule out all the other thing. So planning and scheduling is a really, really, really big piece that you can do during this time that will really help you to unplug. Now, of course, you know during this time, I'm not going to take sales calls. During this time, I'm not going to be you know, having, you know, a lot of conversations, at least with people about new business. So this is really where you want to think about what is something that maybe you can lead people to, after your vacation, if you are planning on launching something or welcoming new people into your community and into your world into your services. After you get back and you kind of want to continue with the momentum, think about some offers or something that you can lead them in that strategically placed, I have a really, really incredible offer actually coming up. And if any of you are interested to take advantage of this offer, what I am going to do, and it's going to be available for you to apply from now until the middle of June, middle of July, so about six weeks is that you actually can come into my world and experience 30 days of high level mentorship inside my strategic mastermind for free. And the intent is that it's like dating you and I get to know each other, we get to see if this is a fit if this is good. And the intention is that we're going to be going into a long term mentorship container together, the intention is that this 40 day period really gives us an opportunity to get into your business to get you going to get you started. And then for you to really see hey, I really love the way Teresa works. I really love her vibe, her energy, her style has strategizing what she does. She's the right mentor for me. And I get to say, Hey, you are the right entrepreneur. For me, you're already making five figures, but you already to be able to have that six figure business and then scale from there, you are ready to scale you're doing the things but you need some strategies, some tools, some insights, some processes and systems that allow you like me to take a vacation but still continue to momentum in your business still continue to grow your anoche or more importantly, the relationships that are existing within your community. And you want to be guided by somebody that can do that. And you're a massive action taker. And that is why it's going to work but we get to date each other for 30 days. So if that is something that you're interested in, the link to apply is below, you'll get to a page there's a bit more information on this mastermind experience, what's entailed, but you essentially apply. And once you've applied, I will review the application when I'm back from vacation after June 18. And started and set up calls with user will have an initial conversation make sure it's very clear what you're saying yes to for my end make I make very clear and show that you're the right fit for this and then you come into my world. And so this was really something that was a strategic move and also at the same time. It's kind of a really wild offer and something I've never done and I like trying new things in business. I like trying it and I also appreciate that you know things are changing right now we really want to make sure that we make the same purchase decisions and when I when I pulled, what the biggest thing is that stopping you from investing right now, a couple of weeks ago, the big thing that came out was like not to fear that it's the wrong move, but to fear that maybe you're investing and it's not going to work again, or the fear that you're not going to have time to implement or the fear that you might be successful and then can't handle it, which I really appreciate. Because it was something that really was in my space for a long time. So no matter what it is, by being able to come in for deferred Gs 30 days, you're also going to be able to see, hey, does this work for me is a mastermind the right space for me to enjoy working this way. And obviously, we're going to have to get have a lot of fun, you're going to come into this amazing sisterhood. And I can't wait to see who's applying and who's coming in, and heck, maybe nobody applies. And then that's okay. Because you never know, you never know how these things work. So essentially, I am planning on launching this more efficiently when I get back. But by knowing what I'm doing, this allows me to plan out my content to plan this out strategically. And to get my team I have a team in place with social media community engagement, and then my online business manager who are going to be running my business while I'm away supporting my community while I'm away. So things are gonna still continue, but I get to unblock I'll have an auto response on my.

Theresa Lambert:

So I will not responding to emails, and I will not be responding to messages. And honestly, I'm super, super excited for this time away. But you do get to have a vacation, it is possible I run a large organization that was making multiple millions of dollars a year with 180 employees. And I can tell you, it's possible to take time off. And I really want to encourage you to start thinking about your business like a big business and not a small business. So even if you're on your own and you don't have team members yet, you can set yourself up for success. Take up the space, take the time, plan strategically, preemptively plan, schedule out everything that you can schedule out for while you're away, so that way your business can still work. And that's the beauty of automation and processes and technology. So why not use it while also taking the time to unplug and hey, if you just want to unplug and not be on your socials for a few weeks, that is okay too. And that is a choice that might serve you better. So for me, I'm doing what feels good for me. What I know will give me a real break. I'm super excited for it and I cannot wait to be back in July with more juicy episodes, and maybe a little bit of a different format. We'll see what comes through over the next month. I love you all so much. Thank you for being here. And I will be back fully refreshed from to loom Mexico. When I get back, but for now I'm gonna do this cross Canada trip. You're all amazing, and I will chat with you soon.
