Why Men Over 50 Need a Space to Talk — and Listen: The Story Behind GreyN’Grounded

Why Men Over 50 Need a Space to Talk — and Listen: The Story Behind GreyN’Grounded

By the time most men hit 50, we’ve been through the wringer. Careers built — or rebuilt. Kids raised — or still lingering in the nest. Relationships tested, bank accounts stretched, health battles fought quietly. And somehow, through it all, we’re expected to just keep going. Stoic. Strong. Silent.

I used to think that was normal.

Until life hit me hard — and made me realize just how much we need to talk.

When the Strong One Breaks

A few years ago, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. It wasn’t just the diagnosis — it was the silence that surrounded it. I didn’t know how to talk about it. Didn’t know who to talk to. That same year, my mothers health started to seriously decline. As an only child it would all fall on me. Just this past year she died, and at the same time my health is still in question. A double blow that knocked the wind out of me, but again… I keep moving. That’s what we do, right?

We suck it up.

We manage.

We pretend it’s all fine, even when we’re screaming on the inside.

That quiet struggle — that’s the story of so many men I know. Especially those of us over 50. We were raised to believe vulnerability is weakness. That emotions should be private. That men just deal with it. We find a way. We will figure it out and be OK.

But what if we’re not?

The Birth of GreyN’Grounded

Out of that silence, GreyN’Grounded was born. A podcast for men like me — men who’ve lived, lost, and learned a few things along the way, but still have plenty to say.

It’s a space for conversation, not performance. For wisdom, not bravado. From everything from whiskey, BBQ, and finance, to fatherhood, faith, and fashion. It’s where we unpack what it means to grow older while staying grounded. Not in the “stuck” sense — but rooted. Present. Intentional. Comfortable in our skin.

Each episode is an invitation to pull up a chair and exhale. To reflect. To laugh. To connect with what matters.

Why This Matters More Than Ever

Men over 50 are dealing with real stuff — health scares, identity shifts, financial stress, adult children, aging parents, retirement questions. But few of us are talking about it, and even fewer are listening.

Stigma and silence are killing us — slowly and quietly. Emotionally. Mentally. Physically.

I believe we need a cultural shift. We need spaces that say:

“It’s okay to feel.”

“It’s okay to speak.”

“It’s okay to not have it all figured out.”

That’s what GreyN’Grounded is.

An Invitation

So if you’re a man in your 50s — or know someone who is — I invite you to join us.

Not just to listen, but to be heard.

And here’s what I want to know from you:

What do you think we — men over 50 — really need to be talking about more?

Drop it in the comments. Let’s break the silence. Together.
