Malcolm x Rick Rubin dropping heat! Listen.
I HATE RAP & HIP HOP...
... yet loved this first episode. It’s intelligence and grace, insight and analysis seemed far removed from my experience of the genre.Fact is, I have always been bothered by myself in that I love everything from Bach through jazz and blues and yet cannot come close to liking rap, which is an understatement. I am one of those people this episode referred to as the folks who don’t even think rap qualifies as music. Well, if I am never going to appreciate this genre, this show will be the means whereby that happens. That would be a miracle! And that’s way too high or bar to set for this to be a successful show for me. It is enough that I am currently over-the-moon appreciative of having a front-row seat listening to the how’s, why’s, and wherefores of the creators of this up-until-now opaque art form. Way to go! — Albert Cipriani
It’s great
I can’t wait to hear more.
Like silk on the ears
First episode could be the formula for the whole show, Rick telling stories and Malcolm asking questions. Two of the most pleasant sounding voices with enjoyable accents, dancing for 50 minuets. Getting inside the mind of a very influential Producer and hearing of his experiences. I am very excited to hear more!
Wonderful!
I am a huge fan of Malcolm Gladwell and Revisionist History, so I was excited to learn about this Podcast. So far it is a little more organic than Revisionist History, but very fascinating. Hearing these stories of how certain musical works came to be is incredible! I have already told multiple people about this Podcast and I can’t wait to hear more!
What a pleasure
To listen to Malcolm- one of my favorite casters-and producer of giants -Rick Rubin-begin to dive into the music world. Love the insight. Love the antidotes. Malcolm asked the questions that I was hoping he would ask, and Rick provided the answers and details that brings a deeper understanding to some of his productions. So good. Can’t wait for more episodes.
Loved it
When can we expect more? I always enjoy hearing from creative & personal side of artists and Eminem as always is a great subject.
Music!
As an eager early follower of Revisionist History i have to celebrate and welcome with unhidden enthusiasm this New podcast!King of Tears, Cohens Aleluya and Elvis were my favorite chapters in RH.Bravo!J
As usual, Mr. Gladwell delivers the goods
Thank you Malcolm Gladwell for this teaser. It portends an amazing new podcast full of music I would never find on my own.Eminem’s raw, soulful, lyrics and mournful delivery could inspire a dissertation on the fragility of the human ego.
Incredible pairing. So excited for this podcast! Stay tuned!
I'm so excited about this podcast. I've been listening to Revisionist History (by Malcolm Gladwell) for all three seasons now—season three just ended—and Broken Record looks to be right up the alley for detail-obsessed music nerds. An paired with none other than Rick Rubin himself? I'm too pumped. For those who reviewed one star complaining that the project was "abandoned"—do some research and you'd learn that Malcolm Gladwell (and team) have been busy doing years and years of research and investigation for their first podcast, Revisionist History. Along the way, they must have compiled so much music-related content that the idea for a podcast like Broken Record began to surface. Be patient. It's a virtue, and well worth the wait.
So Psyched!
So psyched for this podcast to start in full! Matching Rick Rubin’s expertise with Malcolm Gladwell’s insight is a brilliant idea, And I look forward to exploring saw the score old and new with this duo.
Deserves to be in your feed.
If the first episode is any kind of indication on how the rest of the series will be, then I’m all ready hooked. King of Tears is my favorite episode from Malcolm’s other podcast (Revisionist History), so a whole podcast dealing in the same subject matter is gonna be a stunna.
What happened here?
Maybe not the best thing ever, but how great the pairing of MG and Double R will be when they realize their full potential with this thing. Similar to Song Exploder but telling of Rick Rubin’s singular production methodology without explaining the sausage works. I want more please.
Loved it, just one?!
Hope to hear more from two American folk heroes. And you start with Eminem! Thought this thing had a lot of traction and I hope it becomes a super star hit.
Perfect.
Both Rubin & Gladwell are masters at their crafts. Please continue doing this podcast. The possibilities are endless!!
Where are other episodes?
Please upload more episodes.
Yes!!!
Who do I have to kill to get more of these episodes??!Fantastic show and rare access to music industry guru and pioneer Rick Rubin. Rick is a delight to listen to, we need more of his philosophies and insights.

Speaks to your soul
Awesome job at capturing the passion and weaving so many working parts into a thought provoking inspirational story... drop the microphone good!
two legends
can’t believe this podcast is real tbh
Much respect and love
The pure and unadulterated way rick handled his career is so very special. The first episode of “Broken Record” has the same simplicity and Pureness that has made Rick’s career one of a kind and glorious. It’s only appropriate to make the first one feature the G.O.A.T. of hip hop. Marshall Aka Eminem breaking down musical inspiration and his love for Ricks art. They feature “Walk on water” and add a modest back story for the track and introduce it in a very “Hall of fame induction speech” kind of way. I look forward to hear where this new podcast takes our ears. Overall it’s exactly what the world of podcasts need.
Great idea
I am a fan of both Malcolm Gladwell’s podcasts and books.Rick Rubin has produced some of the most iconic music of my life. This podcast has potential to be amazing.
This is gonna rule
This is amazing. Just started. One episode but it’s Dope. I would listen to Rick talk about any music all day. Whatever your opinion on Eminem, It’s the best synopsis of an artist (seemingly) past their prime but doesn’t want to let go. More spoken word than hip hop song, but left an impression on me with his honesty and willingness to confront the situation. He’s a legend. Thanks for making this podcast.
