#1 Welcome to Different Points

#1 Welcome to Different Points

In this first episode of Different Points, co-hosts Roy Coughlan and Catherine Llewellyn introduce the show and each other. Long-time podcast collaborators and friends, Roy and Catherine explain why they've teamed up for this new format: one topic, two perspectives, no agenda.

They talk about how differing life experience and history can lead to a richer, more three-dimensional take on the same idea, why questioning what we've been conditioned to believe matters, and how staying open to other viewpoints keeps thinking fresh instead of settling into comfortable, unquestioned conclusions.

Each future episode will explore a single question, with Roy and Catherine offering their own honest answer, no script and no need to agree. Listeners are invited to write in with questions they'd like covered.

Welcome to episode one of Different Points and I'm joined by my co-host Catherine, well I should say Llewellyn but usually we just know each other as Roy and Catherine, so I suppose first of all it's a pleasure having you as my co-host. Thank you Roy, it's an absolute pleasure having you as my co-host, in fact you've been my sort of podcast buddy now for a few years, ever since I found you and thanks to you I'm now a much, much better podcaster and my show is much more interesting and more widely watched and listened to and it's been so much fun working with you, so I was very excited when you were up for doing this. So I suppose I'm in different points because what we've decided is, I'm not sure was I on your show first or you were on my show, but we've been on each other's show, and I think that was even before that you were actually, that I was your coach wasn't it, and it was just true that we got, and yeah we've been kind of doing a lot of stuff together over the years and we've realised we kind of do things a bit differently but sometimes we come to the same point, hence different points, and that's, we're going to have sweet, short, simple, but we're going to have a topic and we're going to just discuss it and then what we'd like is we'd like the listeners to come in and go, well I don't actually, I have a different point again and that's good as well, we're not pushing an agenda, we're just where it comes from, from our hearts, how we think about it, and what's your thoughts on that? Absolutely yes, because I've actually listened to you, obviously I've listened to you on my show and I've listened to you on other shows, and many times I've felt I love the way Roy just said that, it's different from how I would have said it, but it adds another level, another perspective onto something that I really believe in, it really matters to me, so it kind of helps freshen up my brain for me when I hear your perspective alongside mine, so that's a lovely thing I think sometimes when you've got people, you've got a lot of similar values, but different ways of talking about it and different perspectives, different histories, so you get a much richer, more three-dimensional take on a topic, so that's why I thought for me, even if I ignore the listeners for a minute, just doing this with you is going to be great fun for me, you know, just these conversations are going to be so much fun because of that aspect of it, and I think that's one of the reasons why we have other people in our lives, we need other people to help us see other perspectives, or see the same perspective but from a different angle.

Thank you, not only have you got your own show Truth and Transcendence, but like you have guests, but you do solo shows, and I've always enjoyed that, and you've seen it, and sometimes I comment, and that's hard to do, it's okay to maybe do two minutes, but sometimes you can do 10, 15, it's hard to do, but you do it very well, and I love listening to it, because sometimes I go, oh I never thought of it that way, and that's kind of what our kind of objective is, we want you to just think of things differently, because what I've learned is, we've been conditioned all our life, and when you kind of realize, when you get older, and you look at things, you go, I was kind of duped here, and you start taking a few layers off, and then you start going back in your brain, and I go back to when I was younger, I realized this happened from a very young age in school, how they do things, and then I look at everything, I look at the different books, because I read a lot of books, and I just kind of go, I know that's actually been modified, and if you look at everything, everything that we see, a load of it has been modified to make us think a certain way, and I think sometimes we'll have the same conclusion, but a different route, and hence why different points works as well. That's right, and I also think we also dupe ourselves, you know, sometimes it's more convenient to come to a conclusion about something, and just go right, that's it, then I don't have to think anymore, I don't have to think any more deeply, I can just have that opinion, and chill out on the couch, you know, so I think, yes, sometimes we're kind of duped from outside, but also we dupe ourselves, just to give ourselves an easier life, and the trouble is, we reach a point where we realize that's actually really, really boring, and deadening, and I've been talking to people lately, particularly as people get older, when they suddenly realize that the scope of what's happening inside their own mind is really limited, and also they're resisting opportunities to expand their thinking, because they think it's going to be too much of an effort, but then when we do actually get past that resistance, and do think about things differently, it's like fresh air, it's a new burst of life for us, so I'd love for everybody listening and watching this, to feel a bit kind of revived, and renewed by it, you know, as in there's more freshness in life, and there's more options in life, than it might seem, from just inside the limits of our own head. Beautiful, and I suppose before we tell them where they can find you, and find me, not only are we going to have just one topic on each episode, but feel free to write into us what you'd like us to discuss, because we're open, and you know, if you're listening, then we're going to repay you by actually discussing what you write in, so make sure you do that as well.

So Catherine, where can they find you? Well, my other show, Truth and Transcendence, is at truthandtranscendence.com, and that's longer form than we're doing on this show, and that's me, solo episodes, and also me with guests, so that's a great podcast to check into, and also my website, beingspace.world, where you can find about my work, helping people step deeper into their calling, so you're really welcome to pop over there, and book a clarity call, if you feel, you know, drawn, that you'd like to do that. Excellent, I mean, I'm not going to say what all my shows are, because I'd be here for half an hour, but you can see them, if you're watching on Pitcher, Jujube, Rumble, Spotify, you can just see them, and you could scan the QR code, or go to roycolin.com, and you'll find everything I'm doing. So Catherine, looking forward to our, I mean, this is kind of like a trailer, even though it's episode one, and looking forward to our technically first different points discussion.

Me too, I can't wait. Until the next episode, take care.
