Meet Your Hosts: The Beginning of This Way In

Meet Your Hosts: The Beginning of This Way In

We’re finally here—we've released the very first episode of This Way In!

This podcast has been a long time in the making, and in our debut episode we’re pulling back the curtain so you can meet your co-hosts, learn how this show came to be, and get a taste of what’s ahead.

Who We Are

  • Brittney Baxter Dameron: a licensed trauma therapist (Iowa & Minnesota) specializing in EMDR and ego state/parts work. She spends her days diving deep into the complex world of trauma healing.

  • Amy Lotsberg: podcaster, creative, and your resident “lay person translator.” She’s here to ask the questions you might be wondering yourself and to keep us grounded in everyday life.

Together, we wanted to create a space where mental health conversations meet curiosity, humor, and even a little woo (yes, we’re not afraid to talk intuition and spirit alongside therapy and science).

Why This Podcast?

The seed for This Way In was planted when Brittney reached out to Amy after listening to her paranormal podcast. What started as a conversation about spirit guides and intuition quickly grew into a much bigger idea:

A podcast where we explore the “parts of self” (think inner child, protector, critic, nurturer, etc.), how they shape our lives, and what we can learn from them.

We’ll dive into:

  • What parts work and EMDR really are (in plain English).

  • How mental, physical, relational, and spiritual health all overlap.

  • Why TV shows (Shrinking, Friends, New Girl) and even old Looney Tunes sketches reflect real psychological concepts.

  • How you can use these insights to better understand yourself and the people in your life.

What Makes Us Different

There are a lot of mental health podcasts out there. Many are excellent, but they often focus on a single therapy type or keep things strictly clinical.

We’re doing it differently:
✨ Deep dives into psychology, explained accessibly.
✨ Honest, funny, sometimes rambling conversations (because that’s real life).
✨ A willingness to bring in spirituality and intuition alongside evidence-based practices.
✨ Guests, listener Q&As, and plenty of pop culture references to keep things relatable.

Why You Should Listen

If you’ve ever wondered…

  • Why do I keep reacting the same way in relationships?

  • What does my “inner critic” actually want?

  • How can I quiet the logical part of my brain so I can follow my intuition?
…then this podcast is for you.

Even if you’re not in therapy—or if you’re on a waitlist and need something nourishing in the meantime—you’ll find tips, brain hacks, and perspective shifts here.
