Purify Ourselves?

If you've been listening to the podcast, I've avoided saying good evening, good morning, I've just said welcome. I've avoided it because nothing has been very good. We have had, you know, controversy, We've had sin, We've had scandal. We've had everyone offer an opinion about the so called scandal and the so called sin. We've had people give details about the sin, and then people offer opinions about the details, and I have said that the entire situation there is nothing good about it. I've avoided mentioning any names.

0:53 And I've said, Okay, if we're going to talk about scandal and sin, well let's really dig in and talk about sin, and talk about Christianity and talk about the reality of sin, and let's really really try to look at this from a much deeper theological perspective. And that is what we have done. And to be honest, there's been nothing good about any of the discussion. It has led to frustration, confusing. It's been confusion. It's been confusing. I have been just it's been confounding, it's been complicated, it's been irritating. I've made the jokes that this entire discussion is not going to drive me to drinking, It's going to drive me directly to rehab because I'm going to need help overcoming well, my alcoholism as a result of it. That is a joke. I don't drink, but that's what I have felt we've done, even a little bit of acting.

We've had some very interesting discussions, and I guess we're going to add to that well in just a few minutes. But in the meantime, welcome everyone. It is Tuesday, October the first, twenty twenty four. It is currently nine fifty four am Central Time, and I am coming to you live from the Theology Central Studio located right here in Abilene, Texas, October the first. Can you even wrap your mind around that?

2:28 I mean, I remember December twenty twenty three, just trying to go, well, okay, is the podcast even going to be here? Is it going to last? What's going to happen to the church? There was so many unknowns and now here we are. We've arrived at October the first, twenty twenty four. The year is I mean, before we know it, the year is going to be over. And I'm there's still a lot of unknowns as far as so many of those questions I was asking in December of twenty twenty three. But here we are, and we have found ourselves again one of them. One of my favorite things about this podcast is so how it just kind of takes a life of its own, Like the podcast just kind of leads me to wherever we are.

3:09 I never I never know where we're going to end up, right, I know everyone else is like, Okay, I'm gonna plan this out, we're going to talk about this, We're going to talk about this, And for this podcast, it's we just we don't know where we're going to end up from day to day, week to week, month to month. Sometimes we find ourselves discussing something that goes on for weeks. Maybe sometimes we find ourselves discussing something that only last one episode. But it's always interesting. It's you know, I don't know. I hope you find it to be interesting. It's there's a lot of unknown I don't know what's going to happen, and I just know that in this particular situation, what we've been talking about, I can't. It was out kind of out of my control. I wasn't ever thinking this is what we would be discussing at the end of you know, as we reach October twenty twenty four, I would have probably predicted other subjects to be what we were talking about. But things happen, and I do feel that I have handled it, I think in a somewhat interesting way, right. I mean, I've watched countless YouTube videos and how they've handled it, and it's all about did you hear it? Here's this information, and here's this information, and this is the sin what the man was committing. However, the man is not admitting to this.

4:31 Well I know he's doing it anyway, or I know he did it. And there's speculation, accusation, judgment, it's a little bit of gossip, it's a little bit of slander. It's just a home just everything about it to me is wrong. I don't I don't think any Look, whatever sin you're condemning, well and our condemning of the sin. If we're committing sin while condemning sin, Are we any better than the people who sinned? I mean, I think Christians have to how we handle sin. So what I decided to do is, yes, there's this scandal, Yes sin was involved. Okay, let's just look at ourselves. Let's look at ourselves. Let's look at the reality of sin and the life of Christians, and let's talk about it because it's a very important subject. So we have talked about that, and we've established some things that I just keep repeating over and over and over, and that is this you and I as a Christian, right, these are just basic facts I'm being dogmatic about. There is no compromising with these facts. You and I as a Christian, we cannot keep the law of God. We cannot keep the law of God. To keep the Law of God means you would have to keep it perfectly internally and externally, and I can demonstrate it within seconds. God says to be holy as he is holy. You have never been holy as He is holy. Therefore you are not keeping the law.

5:58 And I could just add a their verses to it, and you would have to admit I cannot keep the law. I cannot. And as a result, because we cannot keep the law. You and I are in a perpetual state of sin. We are in a perpetual state of sin. And the Early Church understood this because even in their worship services, many of their liturgical their liturgical structure, would call somewhere at the beginning of their worship service to offer up a general confession. It would read something like this, Here is one, most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against You and thought word. Indeed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone, we have not loved You with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbor as ourselves. We are truly sorry, and we humbly repent for the sake of your son, Jesus Christ. Have mercy on us and forgive us. The Early Church understood that every time we come together to worship, it's a bunch of sinners coming together because we are in a perpetual state of sin. We have failed to do what God has called us to do. We have sinned, and what we do and what we leave undone, we are sinners and thought word indeed, internally externally we are in a perpetual state of sin. So if we are all in a perpetual state of sin. Well, I guess

7:33 you can say that sin is worse than my sin. But while you're condemning that sin as being worse than your sin, you're still a sinner. So how do we handle this? So we've asked this question. I promoted I told you about a book, Six Secrets of the Christian Life. We've looked at some of their so called secrets and how they're trying to address the reality of sin. It was confounding, it was confusing, it was I mean, I mean, we still need to work on that book. We've done a lot of work. On Sunday, we spent two hours looking at sin in the Life of a Christian. We went through how the Church throughout church history has tried to handle this reality and look at all the different philological systems and their approach. We've done so much. We have done so much. We still need to do some more work on Romans Chapter eight. We're gonna look at how throughout church history, how the Church has handled the Christian and its relationship to the law. There's so much we still need to do. But in the midst of all of this, trying to answer these questions and deal with this reality. So let me state it again just to be clear. No, Christians, we cannot keep the Law of God. Therefore we are in a perpetual state of sin.

8:48 We are in a perpetual state of sin. Now I've added more to those two dogmatic facts, but I won't go beyond that right now. I summarize them again on Sunday, and I'll be somezing them more as we move forward. But those are just the two. I mean, that's the starting point. You cannot keep the law. You're in a perpetual state of sin. And I know the majority of Christianity deny even though they may say sometimes pay lip service to it, they almost deny it when they really when you start listening to their teaching, because the basic Christian teaching is no, no, no, no no. When you become a Christian, you've become a new creature. Old things are passed away, all things have become new. You have been completely transformed, You've been completely renewed. You have a new heart, you have a new mind, you have a new spirit, you have a new everything. Everything is new. Okay, Well then I should not sin. Well, I mean, you're still gonna sin, Well, then where does sin come from?

9:42 And we've been asking all of these questions. So in the midst of all of that, okay, and that's not even a great review, that's not even a great summary. But there's been I mean, you're talking hours and hours and hours of this discussion. So I just that's kind of a partial summary, a partial redem But in the midst of all of that, I received an email. What day did I receive this email? I received this email. Let me go to it. I received this email on September the twenty second, at seven thirty six am Central time, September the twenty second. So it's been a while since I received this email, and since that time, we've talked about so many different facets of all of this. But here's the email. This is the sermon you should review. Okay.

10:33 Then it says the topic follows right on the heels of your Second Corinthians five seventeen discussion. The pastor says a lot and a short sermon about holiness in this life. He goes right down the line, all right right down the line. I'm okay. I always think of a musical reference, but I won't go there. I won't go there, all right. So I'm like, okay, now, when someone says this is the sermon you should review, now, I know some of you will send me those emails, but I know you because you've emailed me enough, and I know that what you're saying is you should review this sermon because it's going to be fun to listen to you have an utter completely total nervous breakdown live on the air. You're utterly going to lose your mind, and I'm going to have my popcorn and my coke as I listen. Some of you, I know you do that because well we know what happens, all right. And this particular case, I don't think this is someone messing with me. I don't think this is someone like this is the one you should review. Maybe they believe this is a kind of a perfect continuation of our discussion on Tewod Corinthians five seventeen, which again I think is one of the most abused and misinterpreted passages and all of the Bible. So I don't really Again, when we do reviews, we know, Klaus, I don't listen to them first. Now in this particular case, as with I try to get better at doing this

12:05 I do listen at the beginning to see what the sound quality is like. In this particular sermon, there's about three minutes and thirty seconds where someone forgot to turn the volume up. Now I could go in and try to artificially increase that part, so but I didn't bother doing all of that. What we did is the first three minutes is kind of like, Hey, thank you for inviting me to this conference. You people are wonderful, this is great. Tell a little joke, just you're kind of your typical ice breaking that a lot of people will do in a conference setting. This is at some kind of conference or camp meeting, And about three minutes in the volume starts going up and then it goes way up.

12:49 So we're gonna come in right when he's about to tell everyone to take their Bibles and open to First John. I believe it's chapter three, and well, I don't know if this is where he's going. I don't know if this is what he's going to focus on. But when he started reading the scripture, one phrase jumped out at me, and so I'm definitely gonna be focused in on that. But at the same time, we're just gonna let them we're gonna just see where this goes. We got about thirty minutes of sermon to review, maybe that maybe twenty nine minutes. You know, you get to the end. Typically a pastor will summarize what they've already said and then they'll go into their prayer. So usually we have about three four, maybe even five minutes at the end, which really won't add anything to the review. So we possibly have only about twenty five minutes of sermon, So maybe we can make it through this in one episode. I definitely, I definitely that's the goal. We're just gonna get the basic idea. Let me remind you one of the things I've been asking you to do, and we've talked about this, is to start looking up random sermons about a new heart, a new mind, a new spear, a new nature, and new I knew whatever, because we've realized that Christianity has no agreement or even there's not even a standard way of understanding. Wait, so do I have a new heart but in old nature? Do I have an old heart?

14:14 But a new na is nature and heart synonymous. We went through all of that, so hopefully you're continuing to do that. I don't know if this is going to get into any of that. I don't know. I don't know what's getting ready to happen. But someone emailed me said, this is the sermon I should review. All right now, I always get nervous, So let me just state this. If you ever send me a sermon to review, you just know that you may think it's wonderful and great. I may criticize the sermon. That's not me criticizing you. If you like the sermon wonderful, you can listen to whatever you want. I don't really It doesn't bother me in any way, shape or form. I don't tell people what to listen to. I don't tell people what not to listen to. I tell people to listen to everything. That's one of the whole reasons we're doing the sermon's two point oh sermon app you know challenge.

15:03 I'm trying to get people to listen to all kinds of sermons, whether I agree or disagree. But when I review, I'm off for going to I'm obviously offering my thoughts, my opinion, and my perspective. Some people still don't understand when I criticize a sermon, it's not me necessarily saying, hey, that's wrong, and I'm right. It's me saying, okay, that's their hypothesis. All right, here's my hypothesis. I don't agree with theirs. Here's mine, and then you, the listener, you can choose whichever one you want to believe. I think that that's a I think it's a benefit to you the listener. When I do a sermon review, well, first, it's not a rehearsed thing, so I didn't go find a sermon that I don't like and I can just criticize it. I'm listening to a sermon that I've never heard before in real time, reacting to it in real time, and a lot of times what happens is the sermon you get to hear almost the entire thing, so I'm not taking anything out of context. You get to hear their full, their full perspective, their full hypotheses, there suggested interpretation, you get to hear mine, and then you get to make your own decision. So that's what's getting ready to happen here. I don't know if I'm going to agree or disagree. I'm worried because of the subject matter. If it's coming off my discussion of Second Corinthians five seventeen, and almost no one agrees with my interpretation of Second Corinthians five seventeen. Well, then, I don't know where this is going to go, but we're going to find out together.

16:28 Be patient. At the beginning, the volume will be low, but it will immediately start increasing and then it should be perfectly okay. So the part where the volume is down, I'm going to try not to come back in because it's going to be such a wild their volume down and I come in loud. So I'm going to try to get it past that so that everything will even out. Just I can't, you know, I can only work with the source material. And for some really weird reason, churches are famous for courting their things as such a low volume. I don't know why. But all right, here we go. Are you ready. I don't know what to expect. I don't know where this is going to go, but for the next you know a little bit, sit back and we're gonna see where we're going together. All right, here we.

17:14 Go today, First, Yoahn, chapter number three, we're gonna begin reading. In verse number one, the Bible said, behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth us not because it knew him, not beloved. Now are we the sons of God? And it does not yet appear what we shall be. But we know that when he shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. Thank you, you could be seated. I do appreciate you standing first. John has been referred to as the Fellowship Epistle talks about the fellowship that we have one with another and the fellowship that we have with God. And of course that fellowship and the source of that is due to the relationship with Jesus Christ. And we know John, and I'm going to get through some just introductory comments here, but he pinned down close to the end of his life, and he's making a lot of comparisons, and he gives the truth between light and darkness, and truth versus error, and sinners and how they can be saved, but also saints and how they deal with sin, and so he pins the.

18:29 All right, I try to let that play. I think the volume is kind of it may go a little higher. I don't know. Well, at least we're getting a good start. So a couple of things. First, the phrase that jumped out at me, all right, so he read First John chapter three. I was gonna say, first Corinthians, first John, chapter three, and I'm going to make at least two very important introductory remarks here as we look at this. First the phrase that jumped out at me, Let me read it. Let's see if you can catch it, all right, First John, chapter three, Verse one, Behold what manner of love the Father bestowed on us that we should be called the children of God. Therefore the world does not know us because it did not know him beloved. Now we are the children of God, and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be. But we know that when he is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. And everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself just as he is pure. The phrase was purify himself, purify himself. Now, and all of our discussion about Christians and sin, we've heard over and over in sermon after sermon after sermon after sermon after sermon, it is God who changes us.

19:47 It is God who purifies us. It is God who makes us holy. It's a work of God. God is doing it. God is doing it. And that we have been told that instantaneously at conversion we became a new creature. Old things are passed away. All things have become new. Whether there's nothing to purify, if I've become a new creature, all things are passed away and all things have become new, because that means I have been completely purified. We have been told you get a new heart. You've been told you get a new nature. And all of that happens at the moment of conversion. And then we've also been told we have the power of the Holy Spirit in us to make us holy. Now, I don't know why it needs to make us holy. If I already have a new heart and a new nature and I'm a new creature, then what is he purifying? But then we're told at the same time, there's some leftover from sin.

20:34 Nobody can really articulate where that leftover part of sin is. So, but the key here is purify yourself. Now, some say, well, you're purifying yourself, but you're doing it through the power of God. Again, if it's the power of God helping me purify myself, you think, then I should be able to purify myself in about one point two seconds, since I'm doing it via the power of God, which is omnipotent. So is this still can get confounded? But I guess what I'm really confused about is this Again, we talked about it so much. Christians talk out of both sides of their mouth. Well, you're a new creature. Old things are passed away, all things have become new. All right, then the work it's over, it's done. I'm perfect. Well no, no, no, no, no, no, you're a new creature. Old is gone, everything is new, but you're not perfect. Well, if I'm not perfect, that sounds like the old is still there. So is the old gone? And is everything new? Well, it's true in your nature. Well, if it's true in my nature, doesn't everything flow from my nature? So but once you start asking questions, it just gets more confusing. Well, in this particular case, it's like, no, you purify yourself, So I'm purifying myself. So that's the first thing that jumped out. Second, he called this a fellowship epistle, I think is how he stated it. Now let me make it very clear.

21:56 I believe First Jean and I stand again opposed to almost the majority of Christianity. I believe First John needs to be understood as a polemic against gnosticism. This is more about gnosticism than it is anything else. I know people have done some strange things with First John, but I stand my ground on it being a polemic against gnosticism, and think it needs to be understood. There So number one, to purify yourself. That's the phrase. Number two the purpose, So the phrase purify yourself, the purpose of the epistle, I believe is a polemic against gnosticism more than it's anything else. Let's see what else he says in his introductory comments.

22:41 He sings down and he also dealt with a great love that God has for his children. First John said this, He said, beloved, now are we the sons of God? How did that happen? He said, Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called the sons of God. I've been called a lot of things, and you probably have too. But God calls me his son. If you are. Saved by the grace of God, you have a relationship with the God of Heaven. The Bible said, but my God shall supply. All your need according to his richest in glory by Christ Jesus. And I have been old but young. But now I'm.

23:21 Old, and I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. That's why we can guarantee no matter what happens in November, I don't care if gravy goes to five daughters assawt. If you are saved by the grace of God and you have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, Praise God, mark her down. You'll have what you need. If there's one cracker left in your county, you'll be nibbling on one corner. If you've got a relationship with God and just to be called a child of God. Okay, now that's a bold claim. If you're a Christian, You're always going to have what you need. All right now, I'm going to just look up statistics here.

24:10 To see how do I want to look this up? Oh, let's see, I'm looking up some. Statistics right here and see what we can find. I've looked these up before. Approximately nine thousand people die each day from hunger, related causes worldwide. According to recent estimates by organizations such as United Nations and the World Food Program, hunger is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths, particularly in regions facing poverty, conflict, and natural disasters. Nine thousand people die every single day for hunger related issue.

25:01 Nine thousand people. Now, I know Christians love to say a Christian will never that will never happen to a Christian. Are you telling me nine thousand people die every day and none of them are saved. Christians will never never do that because God will always provide what you need. Now, I know, whenever I bring this up, Christians get mad at me. They push back, they get angry, they get upset. But I'm just saying, nine thousand people die every single day, every single day. Yesterday was you just start from. Yesterday was Monday, I believe you. Today's Tuesday. I don't even know what day of the week it is anymore. Yesterday was Monday. Nine thousand people died on Monday. Nine thousand people die today. And I know it's an average. So that's not exactly the way it works, because you know, are but an average nine thousand people die every single day I just want you to just wrap your mind around that from hung all right now. I don't want to get sidetracked, and we follow that, but I just want you just to consider that, all right when you're walking around saying, Hey, if you are a Christian, I don't care how much things cost, you will have food, You will have what you need.

26:27 All right. You wrap your mind around that. It's a blessing in itself. That's why we say brother and sister around here. We have a relationship one with another because we have a relationship with him. And what an honor it is to be called a child of God. The God of the universe calls us his child. What a great opportunity that we have to be able to serve God because we are his children. We can cry Abba Father. I look at chapter number and verse number thirteen when it's referring to our relationship. I write it to you, fathers, because you have known him. That is from the beginning.

27:07 I write it to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked one. I writed to you little children, because you have known the Father. I have written under you, fathers, because you have known him. That is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because you are strong and the Word of God abideth in you, and you. Have overcome the wicked one. And the reason we can do that is because we have a relationship with God. We can cry have a father that are to help us. There's no probation period. When an individual has saved, there's something happens to you. Somebody said the thirty things happen to you instantaneously, immediately and eternally when you are saved by the grace of God, and one of those things is adoption. You become part of the family of God. You are son placed. And so if you have this hope, we have a hope this morning, and his name is Jesus. Christ said, thank God for that. And biblical hope is an expectation. It's not somebody saying, well, I hope I'm saved and I might be saved.

28:07 There's a bunch of three legged rabbits running. Around of because people have cut one of the futs off, talking around the lucky rabbits for it, trying to be lucky. Hey, we don't need luck, Praise God. We've got the Lord Amham. And that's why that we know that we're saved, and I'm not trying to be saved. I am saved with that a doubt. I'm in him and He's in me. And if you are saved, you have a relationship with God. And we need to understand because of that relationship or we will see him. One of these days. He really is coming again, and I thank God for that. Amen. We preached about it, we sing about it, we testify about it. But mark this. Now. He is coming to get his children. And you don't have to steal something if you've done, bought and paid for it.

28:49 Amen. We see the. Purchase possession of the God of Heaven. We are his children and we know the Lord. And I'm telling you this because of that. He is coming to get us one day. He said, let not your heart be trouble. You believe in God. Believe also on me in my father's house or many mansions. If it were not so, I would have told you. He said, I go and prepare place for you. And if I go and prepare place for you, I will come again and receive you under myself that where I am there you may be also. Thank God, Jesus is coming again. Hey, listen, you preach about that now, and you might get one or two amens and a hand raised. If you preach out fifty years ago, people shout and holler and praise God. And they some of them were all millennial, some were pep pre millennial. Some of them are pan millennials, just gonna pan out one of these days. Ah, but that's just glad that God was gonna come. Hey, get us out of this mess, and praise God for that He is coming again the people that He is purchased.

29:45 But I will preach a little bit about this morning. If you are saved by the grace of God, if you are a purchased possession of God, there's something gonna happen in your life. The Bible said, believed, now we the sons of God verse. And every man that has this hope and him purified himself, even if he is perire. I want to preach a little bit about the pursuit of purity. Okay, that was a lot of things Hey threw in. There's so many things. But now at least what I do like about, even though he threw all of that stuff in there, what I love about he's now clearly focusing in and zooming in on his actual thesis. Right. I remember a lot of times when we do sermon reviews, I'm like, I don't know what the thesis of this sermon is. I don't know.

30:30 I have no clue. I have no clue. I remember, and I can't remember which seminary what I attended one of the seminaries I graduated from. At one of the classes. I think it was on preaching, I don't remember. It was like, you've got to write. When you write out your sermon, you need to start with writing out your thesis statement. What is the thesis of your sermon? What is it? What is it? And so many times in sermons I'm like, I don't know what the point is here. I don't like, Well, We'll spend three hours doing a sermon review and I'm like, I don't know what it was. Well, here it's clear, all right, when you become a Christian, something basically is going to happen, something is going to change. And well he purifies himself. All right, good, all right, so we seem to have a clear thesis. Now I applaud that. Right, he's got excitement. He's definitely not being you know, monotone.

31:19 All right, there's some passion here. Great, we have a clear thesis. Now the issue is is there going to be agreement on his understanding of how this happens versus my understanding? Well, you can. You can just write down the phrase purify ourselves, purify myself if you want to make it personal, purify myself, purify myself. Write that down, purify myself. Now, he made that statement about you know, we get all of our needs met, but he didn't really articulate that. Okay, let's just forget that. Let's forget that. Right. Sometimes when people criticize sermons are preaching, they can get caught up on the secondary issue, right, Like, so many times I'll get an email someone will criticize something I said in a message, and I'll be like, did you even actually listen to the message? That wasn't the point, right, So let's not worry about his comment about you know, every when basically having whatever you need, even though we have some statistics that would cause us to least struggle.

32:14 Let's forget that. The thesis here is basically, you and I we purify ourselves. All right, are you ready? Let's find out how this all works. That pursuit of purity Once an individual has this hope, there's. Going to be a pursuit that will take place in their life. Purity is a very strong theme in the New Testament. I understand, in the Old Testament, if you were not pure, if you were not clean, you could not even offer sacrifices. You had to clean up before you come in the presence of God. Now, I know there's a lot of people say, well, that's in the Old Testament, And there's a lot of things said in the New Testament about living a pure life.

32:58 One of them is found in the tape. If you are saying, every man that has this hope in him, purified him, sail even as he is pure. Now, okay, Now let's just establish though this basic hermeneutical structure. All right. Now, I know he's not going to go along with this, and that's okay. But remember, anytime you read anything in the Bible, Old Testament or New Testament that tells you do this, this is something you must do, This is something you must pursue, this is something you must do that we classify that as a law. Passage that is law, you must do this. Any passage that says do something, you must do something that is law.

33:45 What law passages do They reveal to us our inability. They reveal to us our inability to obey it. That reveals our sin, It reveals our failure. It shows us we can't. So then we have to run to Christ, who did right. So Christ was pure right, He was absolutely pure, He was holy, He was without sin, He was tempted in all points as we are, yet without sin. So in him I am pure in practice? Will I ever be pure? Right? So I think we just need to draw a distinction between law passages and gospel. Law tells us what to do. Gospel tells us what Christ has done.

34:26 Right. I think that's important. But again, I'm going to go back to the idea, purify yourself, purify yourself, purify yourself. If I'm purifying myself, then I am not pure. So what am I purifying? This is the question? Am I purifying action? Or am I purifying internal desires? What am I purifying my actions or my internal nature? Now, most Christians teach, well, I don't have to purify anything internally because everything is pure. I have a new hurt everything. I'm supposedly a new creature. Old things have passed away, all things have come new? What so what am I purifying?

Well, some of these women will will get very ticked off, will get very upset when a man is somewhere in the gym and looks over at them. Now, yes, women who go to a gym have had to deal with men who say and do things and maybe look at them in a way that they do not like. And I can understand that that is wrong and that's messed up. Men should not be doing that and making a woman feel uncomfortable.

You're looking around. You may be looking at this person or this person. Now I cannot say what the man is thinking or not thinking. You may not like the man looking over at you, but you're in a public place.
