Major YouTube Change

0:02 Looking at our world from a theological perspective. This is the Theology Central podcast, making Theology Central. A lot can happen in twelve hours. Sometimes it's a little shocking. It's amazing how many things can happen in a twelve hour time span. But the last twelve hours has been pretty crazy, a little frustrating, a little irritating, a little confusing, and we still don't have a lot of answers, but we're going to try to find some answers right now. So with all of that said, welcome everyone. It is Thursday, October seventeenth, twenty twenty four. It is currently twelve two pm Central Time, and I am coming to you live from the Theology Central studio located right here in Abilene, Texas. Well.

1:00 It was inside this studio at twelve am it's now twelve pm. At twelve am, inside this studio, I started receiving notifications email messages from two sources, one Spreaker, our podcast hosting site, and the other YouTube. And I'm like, what is going It's twelve am, what is happening? And I've come to find out a lot of things that I thought were happening weren't happening and everything was changing. So let me try to explain. I don't know how many days ago it was. I'd have to go back and try to. Look. I started receiving messages from our podcast hosting site, which is Spreaker. Spreaker informed me, Hey, remember way back in the day when we asked you if you wanted to be on YouTube? Yeah, I remember, and remember how you've not had to do anything because all of your episodes have just been automatically sent to YouTube.

2:05 And basically, you know, we've kind of controlled everything and you just all you do is broadcast and everything shows up on YouTube. And you didn't even even really create your YouTube channel. We kind of created it for you. Well guess what this is, basically what Speaker told me, and I'm kind of paraphrasing, Well, guess what Those days are over. We're no longer sending your information to YouTube. We're going to stop either today or the following Thursday or so. It was going to either be today, October seventeenth, or next Thursday that they were going to stop. They were just gonna cease, and that was going to be the end. They were no longer going to send any more content to YouTube. Well, as soon as they told me that, I was like, well, I've got a problem here, all right, So now what do I do? Because it's an audio podcast, so I can't just necessarily easily upload an audio file to YouTube. It has to be in somewhat of a video format. So what do I do?

3:01 What do I do? Okay, well, I guess I could after I'm done doing a broadcast. Sermonadio has a kind of an archived copy of that broadcast and it's in a video format. I could upload that to YouTube. Well I'd have to edit it then upload it to YouTube, or no, upload it to Sermonadio. Then once the video is there, then download it then upload it to you YouTube. And I'm like, well do I am I even going to do all of this? So there was So I basically did a message telling everyone, hey, attention YouTube listeners. Look, basically YouTube is going to go away. Our podcast hosting site says they're no longer longer going to upload anything.

3:43 I could go through this very you know, somewhat frustrating, time consuming process to try to get content to YouTube, But if I look at the YouTube numbers, I don't know if it's really worth it. Considering my podcast is available on every platform on Earth, Hey just go listen somewhere else, right, So you know, I sent that message and then I kept checking YouTube, going why have I not received one comment? I was like, there's no comments. I'm not getting an email, so obviously the people who listen on YouTube just don't care. So then I was like, I'm gonna just go in and delete the YouTube channel and just be done and just move on, right, because obviously no one cares. So I was not giving it any thought, and I just came to the conclusion that it's over. Well. Then all of a sudden, at about midnight, I started getting messages and Spreaker is like, hey, we've already stopped. We were going to wait till either today, October seventeenth or before to cut off sending any more new episodes to YouTube. We've already stopped. So none of your episodes have been going to YouTube for now for like I don't know, a week. And so I went and looked, and I'm like, well, this is great. I record an entire message for YouTube listeners and they've never heard it because it never actually made it to YouTube.

5:05 I'm like, well, that you gave me a warning and then so then I'm like really frustrating. I'm like, so, I guess there's no way to communicate with the YouTube listeners. There's just no way. So then I started looking around. I'm like, well, okause, there's something I could do. Do I then go grab the Do I do? I try to find the archived copy on sermonaudio, upload it as a video, then download it, and then and then upload it to YouTube at least so that people know. So I start looking around. So this is about now twelve, ten, twelve, I don't know, twelve fifteen am. And then YouTube basically contacts me and says, hey, would you like to bring your podcast to YouTube? And I'm like, well, my podcast is already on YouTube but my podcast hosting site. So then YouTube is like, all you need to do is submit your RSS feed. I'm like, well, that's what I've already done, but for some reason they're not allowing Spreaker.

6:02 I don't know. It made no sense. I'm like, well, okay, what do I do? So then they sent me all these things, all these steps that I had to do, right, So I had to go in and the name of the podcast, submit the artwork, a description, and then I have to submit an RSS feed. I'm like, well, I've already submitted an RSS feed, but it won't allow the spreaker RSS feed. I'm like, why won't you allow the spreaker RSS feed. This should already be done. Okay, what do I do? I know what I'll do. I'll grab the RSS feed from sermon Audio Boom. So I grabbed the RSS feed from Sermon Audio Boom. I submit it and then it starts uploading one hundred episodes from sermon Audio to YouTube and I'm like okay. And it turns it into an actual podcast, so it's not seen as like it's a part of the YouTube channel. But there's a tab now that says podcast. So it turns them into videos. It's autumn transferring it into a video format.

7:02 It's it's creating a thing called a podcast. So all of this was happening, you know, going all the way up to one in the morning. All of this was going and I'm like, okay, this is good. Now, if you'll right now, if you'll go to YouTube, just if you'll go to YouTube right now, do a search for Theology Central. If you go to YouTube, do a search for theology Central. You'll now see a lot of these quote unquote video files. It has the sermon Audio branding on it because that's coming from sermon Audio. And I'm like, okay, this is great, but you'll notice something. There's two messages missing, right, the two about the acts, the floating acts and more acts talk. Those are missing. I don't know why they're missing.

7:49 It's like they were uploading and they get to the two most recent and they just stop. I'm like, well, how do I get this fix? Nobody has an answer, right, nobody has an answer. So I'm like, okay, if this works, then what's going to happen is every time I upload a message to sermon audio, that will immediately show up on YouTube. I don't have to do anything. It's going to go just back like the way it was, except it comes except coming from Spreaker. It will be coming from sermon Audio. Now there's a negative to that. The negative is if it's coming from sermon audio, that completely takes away from our podcast numbers and our podcast ranking. Right, because our podcast comes from Spreaker, we're in the top five percent of all podcasts based off the numbers that come from Spriaker, and all the podcasting hosting sites. The numbers from sermon Audio do not register at all to our ranking in the podcasting world. The sermon audio numbers do.

8:54 If the sermon audio numbers added to our podcast ranking, we would be probably not in the top five percent. We'd probably be in the top three percent, two percent, maybe even up to the top one percent. But the sermon audio numbers are separate, so it's gonna have an impact at least a little on our overall podcast ranking. But that's okay. It'll it may add the numbers from Sermonadio, which will be interesting to see. I don't know how it's all going to work. So now what's supposed to happen is when I do an episode and I upload it to Sermonaudio, it should show up on YouTube as a video and as in the podcast section. Now that's how it should work. Why the two new newest episodes aren't there, I don't know. So I'm doing this to try to find out if it's actually going to work.

9:44 If it doesn't work, if it doesn't actually just automatically show up, then all of this has been for nothing, and I'm just gonna delete everything and just move on with my life. If it shows up, then the problem is fixed. YouTube will still be the same YouTube channel, just do a search for Theology Central, but now it will be the audio will show up as a video format in the video section. It will also show up as a playlist. It will also show up as a podcast. All right, so that just now adds three different ways our content shows up. That's great. Oh but wait, there's more.

10:24 YouTube then asked, well, hey, do you want your podcast to be on YouTube music. I'm like, yeah, I've been trying to get on YouTube music forever, as soon as y'all went to podcasts. Well, all you need to do is press this button. Okay, tap this you know, tap this screen. Okay. Then I wait about fifteen Now, now it's like, you know, almost one o'clock in the morning, twelve thirty twelve forty five am. And then I'm like, okay, oh wow, I'm on YouTube music. Okay, So now all of a sudden, all of my content's on YouTube music. All of my content is on YouTube It's on YouTube as a video, as a playlist, and as a podcast. It's on YouTube Music as a podcast. But guess what's missing on all of that. The two most recent episodes, and I don't know how to get the new episodes there.

11:15 So if there's if all it did was take my old stuff and put it there, but it's not going to add any of the new stuff unless I manually go in and add the new stuff, well then we're right back to the original problem. Then I would have to after I'm done with a broadcast, all right, spreaker sends it out to all the podcasting apps. Check. I don't have to do anything there. Well, then I have to go to sermon Audio, find the archived version, upload the video, download the video, then manually upload the video to YouTube. And again I don't know YouTube's numbers are not worth all of that. But it seems like now they've created a section for audio podcasts. So this episode right now is going to be everything hinges on this episode.

12:02 So as soon as I'm done, here's what's going to happen. First, It'll be uploaded to spreaker, and I'll go to all the podcasting apps check. I don't have to do much there, just I got to type out the metadata. It'll be done. Soon as that's over, I download it from Spreaker. Then I upload it to sermon Audio. Once it's uploaded to sermon Audio, then that's where the waiting takes place. We will wait and see if it actually automatically transfers over to YouTube. So here's what I would ask you to do today. If you have YouTube Music, do a search for Theology Central. If you use YouTube Music, do a search for Theology Central, follow us and see if a new episode shows up at any time. If you do not use YouTube Music, then that's fine. You can download the app. I think if you have a Google account then you can use the app for free. You don't actually have to, you know, subscribe to their premium service.

13:04 You can use it as a podcasting app. But if you want to check YouTube music, we are already there. The key is can we get new episodes there? We're about to find out. If you go to YouTube, do a search for Theology Central, find the Theology Central channel and you should now see tabs for video playlists and podcast. You'll now see the Theology Central podcast and you'll see the new branding. It now has the Sermon Audio brand on it. All right, you will see that. What we're going to do is after I get this uploaded to sermon Audio, is once again We're going to wait and see if the new content's going to show up. If the new content shows up. If it does, then ladies and gentlemen, all of this is fixed. We don't have to worry about anything anymore. I just broadcast and automatically the stuff will show up on YouTube as a video, in a playlist and as a podcast, and it will show up on YouTube Music, and we've resolved everything. If it doesn't work, then most likely what's going to happen is the entire YouTube channel will be deleted and we will just be done with that platform because I don't know how much extra work and time I'm going to commit to trying to get it stuff on YouTube. If in the end those numbers are I mean they peal

14:35 and significance. I mean we talked about it the other day. In fact, I can just give you up to the minute update right now. I can tell you just at this very moment where most of our content is being listened to today, give me one second here, right, I'm going to go to my podcast. I can give you up to this second details here. I'm gonna go to Theology Central, all right. That is a very loud truck out behind me. All right, I'm going to go to statistics. Here we are, I'm going to go to sources, all right, the number one place today. All right, today's here's what we have for today. Apple podcast eight hundred and forty four downloads today October seventeenth has occurred on Apple Podcasts Serious XM Today Thursday, October seventeenth, seven hundred and twenty nine downloads, Chrome Just Chrome four hundred and twenty eight, Spreaker three hundred and fifty nine, Pandora one hundred and nineteen, Pocket Casts one hundred and six, Spotify ninety three, Podbean sixty two, Amazon Music thirty, podcast Attic twenty nine, and I could go down a SERIOUSXM dot Com another ten and so cast Box eleven, I vos A twenty seven. Some of

16:07 these I don't even know where somebody Android Browser one hundred and six, VLC one hundred and forty four, Alexa one hundred and forty nine. I could go through all of these numbers. I think for today we've had I think three thousand, four hundred and nineteen just for today so far. All right, So that that's that. Does YouTube even show up there? No, YouTube does not show up in the top one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen twenty, and the top twenty. YouTube doesn't even register. It's not even it's not even a thing, right, so you see why why I'm somewhat hesitant to dedicate hours of work to make it work. But if we if this works, we will know, hopefully within an hour, if it's going to work. So if you want to be a part of this, if you have YouTube music, look for Theology Central. I don't think it shows up as a podcast right now. It just shows up as episodes.

17:12 But then if you click the little three dots, it will say go to podcasts, and then you can go to the podcast and then you can follow it and you can see and if you have your notifications on, hopefully you'll actually get a notification when this episode drops. Hopefully if you go to YouTube itself, do a search for Theology Central and then just wait and see if a new episode drops in the next hopefully thirty minutes to an hour, and if it does, all the problems are solved. If it doesn't, well YouTube is probably going bye bye. But I'm not going to make any rash decision. I'm gonna give it twenty four I'm gonna give it between twenty four and forty eight hours, just to see if it's all going to work, and then if it doesn't, it doesn't. But I wanted to give everyone an update that for the last twelve hours, that's all I've been focused on is trying to get this problem fixed. It is bizarre. This all happened at midnight, but here we are now twelve nineteen pm and I'm still dealing with this.

18:14 I want to be done with it. I want to be so done with this because that's a lot of time, energy, focus, work, you know. And again, look at the numbers. YouTube doesn't even show up. It doesn't even register. And I don't get frustrated with that. YouTube is not I mean, people go to YouTube, they're looking for videos, they're not looking for audio. But clearly YouTube now is moving into the world of podcasting. So now under our YouTube channel it literally says podcast. There's literally a podcast tab now, So they're moving into the audio world. But YouTube just doesn't.

18:55 And I guess they're going to use RSS feed. I don't know why they won't use our spreaker RSS feed. It's really broken right now the way this is all working out, but we're going to try to get there. They are transitioning and we're going to transition with them until we can hopefully get it solved resolved that all of our content will be on YouTube and YouTube music as well as every other platform on Earth. That's always my joke. We're on every platform on Earth. I would hate to no longer be on YouTube or not on YouTube music. But if we can resolve that today, we're going to. So if you want to watch it all unfold, YouTube Music Theology Central, YouTube Theology Central, and then we'll see what happens. Or of course, if you want to make it easy, you can just subscribe to us and follow us on any podcasting app on Earth, or Sermon's two point oh app or the Church one App. I still tell everyone to go to the Church one app.

19:55 Why because when the Church one app, you get actual notifications when I help load something, and you get notifications when I go live and you can listen to me live, and everything is broken down into series, where on the podcasting apps things are not broken down into series, are they No, it's just a long list in chronological order, like, that's hard to find anything on at least Church one. Everything is so Church one still proves to be the superior app for us. It really does. No podcasting app. Podcasting apps you don't get to hear me live. Podcasting apps. You do get notifications when new episodes are uploaded, but then you're like, you'll see that one, Well, where's the next one? Well you have to scroll down. Well, this is a part of his series on say proverbs. Well when was the last message? You got to scroll down, Well, where's the other message. It's that's maddening trying to be able to keep the Church One app. Everything is broken down into series. It's so much simpler and easier. So we I'm very appreciative that Cermonaudio allows us to be on their platform. They don't have to allow us. They could remove us at anytime, So we are grateful because I think from a listener experience, it's the superior platform from a listener experience. But a lot of people love YouTube, so if I can get the stuff there without having to you know, well, a lot of people love YouTube.

21:23 A lot of people obviously don't love YouTube as far as listening to this podcast because we don't even register anywhere, Like I mean, that's that's sad. That's sad that we're not even anywhere on I don't know, that's just that's sad. But hopefully now all of I'm going to start seeing the numbers for Sermonadio go up, and it's going to be the YouTube people now pulling stuff from the RSS feed from Sermonadio. But we're gonna find out so YouTube music Theology Central, YouTube, look for Theology Central. And here's what we're going to be waiting for. I'm gonna when you get that when you see this on sermon Audio, when you see this episode show up on Sermonadio and the church one app Once you see that, that's when the top the clock starts ticking. When does it show up on YouTube? And if it never shows up, well, then we have not fixed this problem. Let's hope it does.

22:25 All right, that's what's happening. I wanted to give you some kind of insight. I would much look if it was up to me, I would prefer to be doing something else. I just got a notification about a new devotional Bible. It's like the Oswald Chambers devotional Bible that's being released by Hallman Publishers. Now, I think Oswald Chambers Devotion my atmosphereus Hias is just a philological train rag. But I you know, it'd be interesting. I'm going to see how much the Bible is. It would be interesting to see how it integrates the devotional to the Bible. But yeah, I would I wanted to talk about that. That's what I wanted to talk about, or just do some of the other things we need to work on.
