Standing at Cilgerran Castle in West Wales, this short reflection explores one of the most searching and significant commendations in the New Testament: “You have persevered… and have not grown weary.” (Revelation 2:3)
As a rural chaplain working across Welsh farming communities, I regularly meet people who are exhausted - tiring of quietly carrying pressure in marriage, vocation, integrity, and faith.
In Revelation 2:1–7, the risen Christ speaks to the church in Ephesus, a first-century Christian community where loyalty to Jesus carried social, economic, and reputational cost.
In this passage in Revelation 2:2-3 Christ does not say to these people, “I expect more.”
He says, “I know.” "I see you." "I cherish this."
Christian perseverance is not personality stubbornness.
It is sustained allegiance under pressure.
In a culture where faith can feel costly, unseen endurance matters. Revelation 2:3 reminds us that:
- God notices resistance and resilience.
- Endurance is named and valued.
- Faithfulness under strain is treasured.
- Christ is present with His people in their perseverance.
If you are holding on quietly - in marriage, in integrity, in unseen obedience - this encouraging and helpful Bible text is for you.
