The Three Elements of Healing

Welcome to the 255th episode of Self Talk with me, Dr. Ray Self. It has been a privilege. It has been a lot of work, but I am grateful for every one of you who download and listen to this show. Thank you so much. So today I have a very important topic about the three elements of healing. Why your healing may not have taken place, or maybe it did take place, you were not able to hold on to it. This is going to be a very important show for a lot of people, so stay tuned, and thank you again.

Okay, let's get started. This is Dr. Ray with Self Talk. Let's pray. Heavenly Father, I thank you for everyone listening to this show. I pray that your Holy Spirit will touch me, guide me, let your word speak through me, open up our ears and our hearts to receive what you have for us today. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen. And amen.

 

So, how many of you know that truth is a good thing? Jesus said, "You shall know the truth, the truth shall make you free." And so, it seems like when there's a problem, or there's a, something that needs to take place, or healing in your body or something from God, all you need is the truth, right? Just tell me the truth. Nothing but the truth. So, help me, God. And I want to tell you something right now. The truth is not enough. Yeah, I said that. The truth is not enough. Now, that sounds extreme. That sounds radical. But before you hang up, let me explain what I mean when I say the truth is not enough. Now, when there is a situation where we need– maybe it's physical healing, maybe it's emotional healing, maybe it's a, a change in attitude, a change in our situation- whatever we need from God, there's three things we have to have in order for healing or change to take place. Now the truth is needed, but I want to tell you something: the truth is not enough. Let me share a scripture with you before I build my case on this,  all right? In the Gospel of John 1:14, talking about Jesus, and it says, "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth." Full of what? Grace and truth. 

 

Now, if you think about the ministry of Jesus Christ, He went around in a very– for three years telling people the truth. And sometimes the truth He spoke was a very difficult truth. He spoke to the Pharisees, and He, He told them that their father was the devil. He, He told people about salvation and the gospel and what would happen if they refused to believe. And they talk– He talked about a lot of hard and difficult things. He spoke the truth, did He not? Because the truth will make you free. Actually, when Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, the truth will make you free,” Jesus said He is the truth. Remember, He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. Nobody comes to the Father but through me." So the ultimate truth is Jesus Himself. But is the truth enough? And I'm going to tell you right now, I will say no, it's not. Now, how could, you know, how could you say that? Jesus spoke nothing but truth. I mean, He's God. He's perfect. But you must remember something. When Jesus spoke the truth to us, He was willing to love us. And He actually did love us so much that He gave His life for us. There was an unconditional love coming from Christ. Love and acceptance. So much love that He was willing to go to the cross, die a horrible death in exchange for our sin, to pay the price of our sin. Incredible amount of love. And if you look at the scripture I just read to you, going back to John, it says Jesus was full of what? Grace and truth. Truth and grace. 

 

So what is grace? Well, grace is that acceptance. Grace is what we need to be accepted, to be loved unconditionally by God, by, by our wife, by our friends, by anybody. It takes grace, unconditional love. So speaking the truth to someone without unconditional love usually does nothing but bring a lot of condemnation on people. Remember the apostle Paul said, "If I have not love, I am nothing but a noisy gong or a clanging symbol." Okay? Love conquers all. The greatest gift is love. God is love. So if someone knows you love them unconditionally, they can receive the truth that you speak. We know that Jesus loved us. No strings attached. Unconditionally. He loved us so much that He was willing to die for us. Therefore, He could speak the truth. Jesus knew this principle that the truth without the grace and unconditional love is not going to work. So when truth is spoken to you, if it's not spoken in love, so many times it gets twisted. It ends up being condemnation or, or shame or guilt tripping or, uh, it can even be passive aggressive. So many things happen, but the truth must always be bathed in love.

 

So in order to be healed, maybe you're facilitating healing on someone, as a counselor, as a minister, it takes three things. Now, I said three, not just two. Love. Your motivation must be love. As a minister of the gospel,=-- I'm a minister of the gospel. I have to remind myself, and I should always be mindful that love is the motivating factor for my ministry. As you know, I'm president of the International College of Ministry. That's a great ministry, but it has to be motivated by love of people. So, when someone loves you, they can hear - and they know you love them, no strings attached - they can hear the truth coming out of your mouth. But if you're speaking a lot of truth and a lot of information, maybe scriptures over people, and there's no love with it, it can end up backfiring on you. 

 

And I said there are three things that a person needs for healing. The three elements of healing are grace, unconditional love, truth, and time. Grace, truth, and time. I can speak the truth to you. “By His wounds, you are healed.” Okay, “Beloved, above all, I wish that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.” I can speak truth to you, and I can speak and repent and, and, and come to the kingdom of God, but it must be bathed in love. And people need time. Healing takes time. It takes time for us to get the truth of God into our spirit. It takes time for us to get the truth of God into our soul. So three elements, and Jesus had these three elements. The grace of God, which is the unconditional love, the truth of God, Jesus is the truth, the truth of the word, the truth of God's promises, the truth of God's willingness to heal, the truth that you are a child of the most high God, the truth that you have been giving so many promises and authority over snakes and scorpions and all the work of the enemy. You need the truth, but you also need to know this truth is coming with– bathed in love. And it takes time for the truth to sink in. It takes time for the truth to manifest. 

 

Think about this. Jesus came over 2,000 years ago. And, and, and He's given us a lot of time. I mean, how much time before you came to Christ did God give you? How much grace did He give you before you were saved? He gave me a lot of time. He has given me a lot of grace. And so the three elements for healing are truth, unconditional truth, unconditional love, and time. You must have this. So is, is, if I'm facilitating healing over someone, I must make sure that my heart is right and I'm motivated by love. That I speak the truth of God's word, God's promises over them, and I give them time to absorb it. I give them time to think about it, time for them to gain hold of the revelation. So you say, "Well, you know, I've had a lot of healing spoken over me,” but do you know, and do you have the revelation of God's love? Do you understand not only in your mind but have in your heart how much you are loved by God? That love with God's promises and the time that it takes for it to come from– become more than just knowledge and become a revelation. When you put love and truth and time together, miracles happen. 

 

So maybe you've had a promise spoken over you, but maybe you're missing the love element. Or maybe you haven't given yourself enough time. Now maybe you are a counselor, or you are a minister. Make sure that your motivation to counsel, your motivation to minister, is always unconditional love. And if you need help, “God, help me to love them.” There are some people that are hard to love. They are, but “God help me to love them.” And I love, and then I speak the truth, and I give people time. Time for it to sink in. Time for it to become revelation. Time for it to bear fruit. The three elements for healing that we all need are grace, truth, and time. Jesus was full of grace and truth. And He always, and He still is, giving us time. Time to get it. Time to have our faith built. Time to, to understand the revelation. Time for it to bear fruit in our life. That is the three elements of healing. And if you're missing any one of the three, it can cause you to be stuck. Cause you to be stuck. Jesus was full of grace. He spoke absolute truth, and He is still giving us time to get it. That's a principle of God. It's also a principle in your life when you are talking to other people, and you're trying to minister to your family, to your friends, to your wife, you must remember - or counsel - or whatever you're trying to do, you're trying to, uh, cause healing to another person. Maybe emotionally, spiritually, physically, make sure you have those three things operating. The grace of God, the unconditional love, the truth of God, and the time that it needs, whatever amount of time that it takes. Those are the three elements of healing. 

 

Let's pray. Heavenly Father, I thank you for everyone listening to this show. Lord, some of us need a revelation of your grace, your love, your unconditional acceptance. Father, that you accept us just as we are, even with, even with our flaws and our sins and, and the stuff we do. I thank you, Father, that Jesus came and showed us that unconditional love. That nothing can separate us, as the book of Romans says, from your love. Neither mountains nor valleys, nothing, nothing can– no tribulation or trials. Nothing can separate us from the love, your love, from the love of God. Lord, you've given us your truth. Let your truth manifest in our hearts. And Father, I thank you that it takes time for us to get it. Time for us to absorb it. So, Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I speak to everyone listening to this podcast. Any one of you who are missing one of these three things: grace, truth, or time. Holy Spirit, make it real. Holy Spirit, give us the revelation of your love right now. Give us your truth, and thank you for time that we need for this all to take effect in our spirit, in our hearts. Amen. And amen.
