The Spirit of Leviathan

Hello, I'm Dr. Ray Self. Today I want to talk to you about a spirit. A demonic spirit called Leviathan and you'll find this spirit mentioned in the Book of Job. And I want to talk to you about this spirit because it does have an impact upon your life, amen. 

Jesus said “these signs will follow those who believe”, “in My name you will cast out demons”, so let's identify this demon and let's get rid of him because he's hurting you and he's hurting your relationships. 

So we- there's a scripture in Job 41:1. There's actually about eight verses that talk about this spirit and this verse, in verse 1 of Job chapter 41, “can you draw out Leviathan with a fish hook or press down his tongue with a cord?” Many people believe this was possibly an ancient crocodile, possibly, not sure, maybe an ancient dinosaur but what this spirit does is, I call it a twisting spirit. A crocodile like- or an alligator, I live in Florida we have a lot of alligators down here, what they like to do is grab a hold of their prey and twist it and they will roll over and over and over, twisting their prey until their prey is, is killed or drowned.

A leviathan is a twisting spirit and one of the fruits of this spirit is it twists words. Now how do I know this? Because- I know this because I've experienced this many times. I might go through a short season of I'm talking to my wife and I'm saying things that I think are perfectly clear and then I realize she's not hearing what I said; she's hearing something different and so I'm thinking well, what happened to the words that left my mouth before they were heard by my wife? Why is she hearing something different than what I spoke? 

Now, sometimes we have this thing called filters and many people have filters over their ears. A filter is a- I don't want to call a device, but it is a, something in our mind that causes us to hear words filtered and strained through past experience. Have you ever noticed someone for instance, who always seems to hear rejection even though rejection isn't spoken or somebody that, that hears a put down even when put down is not being spoken? And so that's called filtering and usually that comes from past wounds, from past offenses, from past trauma. A lot of people do have filters and tend to hear things a little bit differently. 

One way you can see this demonstrated is the pastor will preach a really nice sermon and it's interesting and most of the church, we're going “wow, that's really great. That really touched me. That really blessed my heart.” Then there's one or two people who get offended by it and they heard something completely different than what the pastor was trying to say but the leviathan spirit is not really filtering, he's actually twisting the words where you say something simple and clear but it's heard completely different and over the years of my ministry and folks I've been doing this walk a long time- I'm not claiming to be anything super special but I was saved in 1961. Yeah, John Kennedy was president when I was saved. Okay? So I've been doing this a while and I've seen a lot and I want to share that experience but I mean I can tell you countless times I would say something out of my heart that was pure and innocent maybe even complimentary and find out later that it was heard completely different. That the- It was heard by maybe a church member or a friend or a family member- it was heard completely different and then I'm, I'm shocked like “how could you possibly hear that, that's not what I was saying?” I'm absolutely um, you know, amazed by it. Um...

I remember in one- one relationship I had, I said something like um, “wow, you really uh, I really think he kind of dropped the ball there you- you messed that one up.” And they heard “oh, you think I'm a complete failure. I'm worthless and I cannot do anything.” I went “whoa, no that's not what I was talking about at all. I was just saying this one particular thing I believed you made a mistake.” They heard instead of you made a mistake, they heard I am a mistake. I'm worthless. You think I'm trash, blah blah blah and that's- that many times can be leviathan spirit.

Leviathan spirit loves to take words and twist them- twist the meaning and twist what is being heard literally when this spirit- Um, the spirit has attacked my marriage even and every now and then my wife and I will sit together and we like to sit together on the sofa and pray and we'll be praying and all of a sudden the Lord will remind me about the spirit and I'll say to my wife Christy “I really think leviathan has been attacking us” and so I'll go into spiritual warfare. “In the name of Jesus Christ I rebuke and renounce the spirit of leviathan. You have no place here. You will not, you will not interfere in my relationship with my wife. Get out in the name of Jesus Christ. I command you to leave now. Get out. Your assignment is broken.” And all of a sudden our communication becomes clear.

Now that may sound weird to you or maybe that sounds a little far-fetched to you but I bet you this is not far-fetched. How many times in, you know, special relationships with a husband, a wife, a child, a boss, a best friend, how many times as a Christian can you say “Wow, I remember that this time, this time I was speaking and then I realized what they heard me say”, or, “I found out later through the grapevine what they heard me say was nowhere close to what, what I was trying to say.” Well, that to me is evidence or fruit of the spirit of leviathan.

Now maybe the spirit has a different name. You know, I'm not sure about that but I do know that Satan loves to cause strife. He loves to cause pain. He loves to break up Godly relationships and one of the ways he can do that is grab our words once they get into the atmosphere and twist our words so, in the atmosphere- so they're not being heard or they're being misinterpreted or actually, actually what is being heard between your mouth and their ear is something completely different and hurt- and harmful. I know that sounds possibly- you're thinking “oh that just sounds like a far-fetched thing to me” but it's not far-fetched if you think about it how many times this has happened to you.

I've heard countless stories of church splits, of a strife of hurt of broken relationships because somebody got offended over something that was said and then you hear what was said and you go “why would that be offensive?” But the person who heard it was terribly offended by it. That to me is evidence of the spirit of Leviathan and you can't blame everything of the devil. We do have our flesh, we do have our weaknesses, but the twisting spirit of leviathan, the alligator, crocodile, twisting spirit is alive and he loves to break up or cause harm to marriages to between bosses and employees, between pastors and their- a pastor or shepherd and his sheep.

So many ways that this spirit wreaks havoc and Jesus told us, Paul told us, “do not be unaware of Satan's schemes” We are not to be unaware of his schemes and one of his schemes is to use the spirit, the demonic spirit I'm calling leviathan, to twist our words. So if you're listening to me and you say “wow, I think that's been happening to me” it’s because, because I realized that I've had times when I'm saying something that's coming out of my mouth one way, I know what I said, but I found out that what I heard was what they heard me say was completely different and I was surprised.

That's evidence of the spirit. That's evidence of that demonic spirit. You know, operate- you know, the Bible says that we've been given authority. Jesus gave authority, gave us authority, over snakes and scorpions and all the works of the enemy. So, you know we're not to be demon conscious but we are to be demon aware. Now, what I mean by that is I don't go around looking for demons all the time but the ministry of Christ teaches me that when there are demons manifesting or causing problems they must be dealt with. That's what Jesus did. My job as a minister is to model my Savior. What did Jesus do? He loved us so much He was to give us His own life. He taught us. He preached to us. He healed, He raised the dead and when the opportunity was there, He cast out demons.

So demonic warfare, deliverance, whatever you want to call it, is something every believer is called to do. I recommend you be baptized with the Holy Spirit. If you don't understand that, just read the book of Acts. you'll see it in Acts 1, Acts 8, Acts 10, Acts 19. Acts 1, Acts 8, Acts 10, Acts 19. And then you don't have to deal with these spirits. The good news, the good news that I want to put out in this podcast is that when we are discern- the gift of, having the gift of discernment, and we discern there is a demon present, in a way that is good news because demons can be dealt with. They must bow to the authority of the name of Jesus Christ and they will obey you if you take authority and they know that you know your authority. The demons will obey you and will leave when you cast them out. You have to have faith. You have to know your authority, okay? Your authority in Christ.

So, my message today- this is not going to be a long podcast but I know there are people out there like me who've had this experience in communicating with friends, loved ones, church members, employees, brothers, sisters where you were completely misunderstood, misquoted. You know, reminds me of the news today of CNN news- excuse me- but we must be aware of the spirit. If you say well, how do I, how do I become aware of the spirit? In First Corinthians 12 when the manifestation Gifts of, of the Holy Spirit is to give the discernment. Discerning of spirits. And you can ask God. The Bible says in First Corinthians 14:1 we should earnestly desire spiritual gifts, especially that we prophesy, but it says earnestly. Earnestly desire spiritual gifts. So the gift of discernment is critical because that will tell you what spirit is operating and when you know what spirit is operating, you can you have the authority to get rid of it. To cast it out.

Do not let leviathan spirit cause harm in your relationships. Do not let leviathan's spirit twist your words so there is separation between you and the people you love; twist your words so something else is heard and the message that you're trying to relay is being heard completely differently and usually in a harmful way. Do not allow this spirit to operate anymore. 

And again, if you've never heard of this before, I bet you have experienced it before and so today, you know, you know, you know the difference and so what I want to do is I want to pray. I want to pray right now for you and we're going to renounce the spirit because I believe there are people listening to me that need to be free.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I thank you for wisdom. I thank you for discernment. And Lord, communication is what separates us being able to communicate love and understanding and peace being able to communicate. To teach, to to connect, is critical for us, Father. We are created for relationships and so Father, we recognize that Satan doesn't like this connection and he'll do anything to stop it. So Father, according to your word and your authority, we renounce and rebuke the spirit of leviathan. I renounce. Ray Self, I renounce the spirit of leviathan that has been trying to attack me and my wife I renounce the spirit of leviathan over every listener who wants to receive this. Every listener of this podcast. I rebuke and I renounce the spirit of leviathan, you twisting spirit. You will- your assignment is broken. You will leave now. There'll be clear communication. Nothing broken. We will hear the truth. The truth will set us free. And that spirit, that scheme of trying to twist the truth so we cannot be free, that scheme is broken in the name of Jesus Christ. So the spirit of leviathan, I declare and decree your spirit broken and you must go now. Leave. Go. Get out in the name of Jesus Christ.

For everyone listening to me who's willing to receive this word, Spirit of Leviathan your assignment is destroyed by the blood and the power and the authority of Jesus Christ. Get out now. Lord, I thank you Father, that we could take authority in the name of Jesus Christ and I thank you Father, for each person listening to this show. Amen, amen.
