Wayne Sutton: What if the world's most powerful AI company stopped acting like a tech company and started acting like a secret society? A journalist embedded inside OpenAI says she witnessed secrecy. Paranoia, obsession, and even and even what some people would call the designing and pursuit of a machine god. Executives reportedly restricted conversations, employees nervous to speak, and security watched where journalists walked. And all of this was one goal. Create artificial general intelligence before anyone else. See, this isn't just smarter software, it's not just a better chat box. Is something potentially smarter than humanity itself. And on this episode of Prosper with Wayne, we're going to dive into the hidden psychology, the power struggle, and the frightening implications behind the global race to build a GI or artificial general intelligence. Now when OpenAI launched in 2015, the vision sounded noble. It presented, the company presented itself as a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring that artificial intelligence would benefit humanity. They stated concerned that advanced AI could be incredibly dangerous if controlled by corporations or governments. So the idea was build it safely, build it transparently, build it collaboratively, and at least publicly. But beneath the service was a much bigger idea. AGI or artificial general intelligence. Not narrow AI that performs one task, not a chatbot, not recommendation for Not recommendation algorithms. â refers to a system capable of learning, reasoning, adapting and solving problems virtually across â intellectual domain. In simple terms, An intelligence that could rival or surpass the human mind. Now people say, Well, I don't believe that's possible. Then you haven't been paying attention. And once that possibly entered a conversation, the AGI, everything changed. Because whoever controls AGI will eventually control and influence economics, warfare, medicine, education, finance, media. Perhaps even human behavior itself. This was no longer just software development, it became a race for power. And journalist Karen Hope was granted unusual access inside OpenAI in 2019. What she expected was openness. What she reportedly found was something different. According to her reporting, certain floors were totally restricted. Employees were warned about conversations. A security guard had her photo. This atmosphere, she described, felt intensely secretive and competitive. Now think about this. A company built around transparency suddenly behaving like a high security intelligence operation. And why was that? Because billions of dollars had entered the picture. Microsoft invested heavily. Competition exploded. Google began to accelerate its own AI efforts. And other nations began investing very aggressively. And internally, according to former insiders, pressure intensified around one singular obsession to reach AGI first. So we want it before competitions, before governments, before anyone else. And that type of pressure changes culture. It changes priority. It changes ethics. Changes psychology. because once people believe they're building the most important thing in human history, they begin justifying almost anything. One of the strangest parts of the report involved how some insiders described the emotional culture surrounding artificial general intelligence. According to former employees, there were moments that felt almost religious. One story described senior researchers gathering around a fire during a retreat. while an AGI effigy was burned. Others describe an atmosphere of intense ideological belief. Now pause for a second. why would scientists and engineers, some of the smartest people on earth, begin speaking in near spiritual language about artificial intelligence? Because AGI represents something humanity has never faced before. The possibility of creating intelligence beyond ourselves. For thousands of years, intelligence has been humanity's defining advantage. But AGI challenges that identity. If machines can eventually outperform humans intellectually, what does that mean for our human uniqueness? What does it mean for meaning, purpose, authority, control? This is why AI discussions increasingly sound philosophical instead of technical. Because the deeper issue isn't software. The deeper issue is what happens when humanity attempts to create something in its own image, but more powerful. And the AI race is no longer theoretical. It's already happening. Companies are spending billions, governments are paying attention, and infrastructure is expanding rapidly. And according to the reporting, of the driving fears inside of OpenAI was simple. If we don't build artificial general intelligence first, someone else will. That mentality creates acceleration, and acceleration creates risk. Historically, every major technological revolution become a geopolitical competition. Nuclear technology, space exploration, the internet, and now AI joins that list. Because advanced AI could eventually influence cybersecurity, military intelligence, economic productivity, propaganda, surveillance, even national dominance. And when global power is at stake, ethical caution often loses competition to competitive urgency. And that's the danger. Not merely AI itself, But humanity's inability to slow down once power becomes possible. See, most people experience AI through a screen, a chat bot, an image generator, a recommendation engine. Hey, using AI to edit the software to make sure everything looks good. But behind those simple interfaces is massive physical infrastructure. We're now building gigantic data centers, which pull in enormous energy demands, water consumption. Computing clusters operating at historic scale. Training these advanced AI models require extraordinary amounts of power. And then there's the data itself. According to the reporting companies exhausted what we would call traditional high-quality data sets, so, or clean data. So increasingly, systems began consuming massive portions of the internet. Social media, forums, comments, debates, arguments, human behavior. In other words, AI is learning from us. The good, the bad, the intelligent, the irrational. That's important. If flawed humans generate flawed data, what happens when those flows scale through artificial intelligence? See, at the center of this entire conversation is one home question. Why are humans trying to create intelligence beyond humanity at all? Not smarter calculators, not better search engines. But potentially autonomous intelligence greater than ourself. Some believe AGI could cure diseases, solve scientific mysteries, unlock extraordinary abundance. And I think that's great. Others fear loss of control, economic disruption, mass surveillance, psychological dependence, or systems can no longer fully understand. But perhaps the biggest danger is philosophical. Because once humanity creates something more intelligent than itself, civilization changes forever The hierarchy changes. The relationship between humans and machine changes. Even our understanding of purpose may change. That's why this conversation matters. This isn't merely a technology story anymore. It's a civilization story. the future of AI may become the defining issue of this country. Not because machines are evil, but because power changes people. Competition accelerates behavior. And humanity has a long history of creating things faster than it can control them. The real question isn't whether AI will continue advancing. It definitely will. The question is will wisdom advance fast enough to run alongside of it? and for my fellow Christians, I have to ask you, do you see AI leading to the end times that the Bible predicts? A beast system, a beast system, where a statue has been given the power to communicate, to cause people to be able to buy or sell or lack thereof. Do you see AI in biblical prophecy? I definitely do. The question is, how are we going to control it? Can we control it? Was it just a surrender, not to the system, but to our creator? I surrender to God, saying, Lord, help us in this situation.
