Wayne Sutton: Welcome back to Prosper with Wayne. Today I'm going to help you create health, wealth, and happiness, and purpose while keeping your faith firmly rooted. Today we're going to talk about something that has fascinated me for I would say years, I'd say decades, and that is neurolinguistic programming. Now, I studied NLP back guess you would say when Tony Robbins first renamed it to Neuroassociative Conditioning. But I also studied under Bandler Rex Sykes Wow. Kenrick Cleveland, different ones. And before some of my Christian friends get nervous, let me say this right up front. I don't place all of my trust in any system, neurolinguistic programming, or any other model. I put my faith and my trust in Jesus Christ. But just like sales skills, communication skills, leadership skills, or business principles, there are tools that can help us better understand how God designed the human mind. And I want to take just five. I was going through a book just a few days ago, 500 different NLP patterns and processes. And I thought, what if I could just take five? What if I could give my clients five different tools that they could use every day to change their life? Just five. And I said, literally, I love five because you can look at your hand. Like when I'm coaching people, I work with them through identity, purpose, relationships, finances, all right, physical health. There's five of them. But today I'm gonna give you five other powerful concepts. Because here's the truth. Most people aren't stuck because they lack talent. They're not stuck because they lack intelligence. They're not stuck because they lack opportunities. people are stuck because they've been running the same mental program, the same pattern for years, the same fears, the same doubts, the same excuses, â same limited beliefs. And eventually those thoughts become habits. Those habits become behaviors. Their behaviors become outcomes. The good news, you can change the program. Trick number one, we'll call it a trick. I would call it a trick. Trick number one or hack number one, change your internal language. Now I'm sure you've heard this before. But the problem is we hear it, but we don't do it. And the words you use matter. Not just the words you speak to others, the words that you speak to yourself. Most people spend all day using disempowering language. I hear it. I hear it in personal life. I hear it â I hear it in my family. I have to. Correct. I hear it with coaching clients. Things like I have to go to work, I have to exercise, I have to make those sales calls, I have to save money, I I have to go to church. And without realizing it, they're creating resistance. Let me give you a simple shift though. If you'll replace a have to with I had the opportunity. So instead of I have to, I get to. Instead of I have to work today, I I get to work today. There's millions of people around the world. Think about this. There are millions of people today praying for the opportunity you already have. Same with exercise. I have to exercise. No, I get to exercise. This morning I got up, I threw on my shoes and went for a walk around the neighborhood. Yeah, low impact exercise, but I've got to exercise. I got to get out and walk and and have a body, I have a body that can move, and that's a blessing. Instead of I have to build my business, I get to build my business today. I have 10 hours here to go build my business. Can you feel the difference? One sounds like slavery, the other sounds like opportunity. Proverbs remind us. The book of Proverbs tells us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. So your words don't merely describe your reality, they help create your experience of reality. Let me say that again. Your words don't merely describe your reality, they help you create your experience of reality. Pay attention of how you're talking to yourself. Your world is formed by your words. Okay, so take note of it. Number one, think about it every day. Number two, trick number two or hack number two, create some powerful anchors. Have you ever heard a song from years ago and suddenly you're transported back to that specific moment? Or maybe as a cologne or perfume, something that suddenly you're back in that moment. It can be a high school dance, a first date, a family vacation. That's what we call an anchor. An anchor is something that instantly triggers an emotional state. use it all the time, talk performers use it all the time. But here's how you can use it. Think about a time. Even as you're watching me or listening to me now, think about a time when you felt totally, incredibly confident. Maybe you closed a big deal. Maybe you did a you were doing public speaking. Whatever happened, you won an award. You accomplished a major goal. Okay? And if you're where you can right now, close your eyes. If you're driving, don't close your eyes. But close your eyes and relive that moment. even as you're listening to me, what did you see? What did you hear? How did you feel? And I want you to make the image brighter and brighter and more vivid. And then you would set an anchor. A lot of people will squeeze their thumb and finger together. Hold it for several seconds. key is it's not a movement it should do all the time. So something like hold it for several seconds. And repeat this process several times over the next few days. Because what you're doing is setting the anchor. This when I'm confident. This is when I'm excited. Now, on the negative side of that, Jordan Belfort, the Wolf of Wall Street, would actually have an anchor where he would. Make a deal, close a deal, whatever. And â he would actually do drugs. He would actually snort cocaine. Okay. We're not going to do that. Okay. But then when he got ready for the next call, that was his that was his anchor. Yeah, let's do something positive. But if you would do this several times, again, close your eyes, vivid. How did it feel? What did that close look like? When you looked at the bank account, that money hit the bank, whatever it was. And you set that anchor. Eventually, your brain begins associating the physical trigger with confidence. Then, before presentation, sales call, meeting, difficult conversation, you now will use the same anchor. But you're what you're doing is you're fire what we call firing the anchor. You're intentionally accessing a resourceful state. If it sounds weird, it's because you haven't done it. If you have done it, have you done it enough to set that anchor? Now, obviously, you can collapse anchors, you can. You can layer multiple anchors. We get into all of that. If you're interested, I have a course that we can offer to you, and it's selling to the subconscious. Selling to the subconscious. But again, get with me. But what you're doing is intentionally accessing a resourceful state. You're reminding yourself of who you are and when you're at your best. All right. Hack or trick number three: ask better questions. One of the greatest discoveries I've made as a coach is this. Your brain answers the questions that you ask it. Okay, literally hit the pause button, go grab pen and paper, and write this down. Your brain answers the questions that you ask it. Unfortunately, most people ask terrible questions. Questions like why does this always happen to me? Why am I so unlucky? Why can't I ever get ahead? Why do I always fail? Well, the brain immediately goes to work searching for evidence. It becomes a detective looking for proof. So instead, start asking empowering questions. What can I learn from this? How can I grow through this? What's the opportunity here? What is God trying to teach me? What's my next best step? Notice we're not pretending that the problems don't exist. We're simply directing our focus towards solutions. The quality of your life is often determined by the questions and the quality of questions you ask. When I faced health challenges, when I faced surgery, when I got sick after surgery, I had a choice. I could ask, why is this happening to me? Or what can God teach me through this season? I could ask, why do I keep getting sicker and sicker? Or I could ask, why is it that I am getting healthier and healthier? I want you to grab a hold of that last question. I asked a why question to a reality that wasn't there yet. Why is it I get healthier and healthier? And the brain, again, what did the brain do? It will answer the question. It had to search for evidence. We'll get into that much later. There's a great work on that. Great work. but Noah St. John, I'll cover that in another video. But this is what I want you to recognize. One question can produce bitterness, doubt, shame, fear. The other Question can produce growth. better questions. All right, trick number four. Well, hack number four. Future pace your success. Most people spend their lives rehearsing failure. Think about this. Before the sales call, they imagine rejection. Before the presentation, they imagine embarrassment. Before launching the business, they imagine losing money. Before starting the podcast, they imagine nobody listening. They're visualizing failure. And Then they act surprised when they feel anxious. Listen, your brain will respond to what you repeatedly imagine. Your brain responds to what you repeatedly imagine. So let's flip the script. Take a few minutes every day. Imagine yourself seceding. See yourself healthy. See yourself strong. See yourself closing the cell. â See yourself the meeting. See yourself serving people, walking in your purpose. Now here's where faith comes in. The book of Hebrews says faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Faith sees before it sees. Faith believes before it receives. And I'm not talking about fantasy here. I'm talking about aligning your mind with possibility instead of defeat. See, many people have already failed in their imagination before they ever take action. Never do that. Visualize success. Visualize God's faithfulness. Visualize the future that you're praying for and you're working for. Trick number five or hack number five, interrupt those negative patterns. Listen, everyone listening, I'm telling you, I know that you have negative thoughts because everyone does. Every person, I do. The question isn't whether you have those thoughts, the question is whether you believe them. So one of the simplest NLP techniques is called a pattern interrupt. The moment you catch yourself spiraling into negativity, you simply interrupt it. You say, stop, or cancel that. Good friend of mine, Rome. he'd listen to some CDs. Yeah, we're gonna go back a few years on conscious languaging. And you he would recognize when I said something negative, well, he would say something negative, and he would say, Hey, cancel, clear, cancel, clear, cancel that. You're immediately telling the unconscious mind or the conscious mind as well, no. â And then you're replacing it. Let's go back to sickness. Somebody says, it feels like I'll never recover. I'll never recover. clear that thought. And it becomes God is helping me heal every single day. I'll never succeed becomes I'm learning and I'm growing. I'm too old becomes if God still has purpose for me, then my best days are still ahead. Remember, you don't have to believe every thought that enters into your mind. There's a difference in your thought and a thought. You can take a thought, and when you own it, it becomes your thought. Or you can say, Well, that thought does not line up with what I need. Okay. In fact, the word of God tells us to capture those thoughts. Okay. But you don't have to believe every thought that enters your mind. Some deserve to be rejected immediately. Again, take every thought captive. But why? Because thoughts become beliefs, beliefs become action, and actions become results. Let me say that again. Your thoughts become your beliefs. Your beliefs dictate your actions, and actions are basically your results or the life that you live. So let's bring all of this together. Neurolinguistic programming, NLP, can be useful. Psychology can be useful. Personal development is obviously useful. But none of these can replace a transformed heart. The greatest transformation happens when God's word renews your mind. Romans 12 2 Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Notice it doesn't say be transformed by trying harder. It says be transformed by renewing your mind. What enters your mind matters. What you watch matters, what you listen to matters, what you meditate upon matters, because your future is literally being shaped by your thoughts. So as we wrap up today, let me leave you with this. You're not destined to remain the person you are today. You can grow, you can heal, you can learn, you can improve, you can overcome, you can become everything that your creator has called you to become. But it starts in your mind. Change your language. Create empowering anchors. Ask better questions. Visualize success and interrupt negative thinking. Now listen, I'm going to give you an assignment. I want you to go back and listen to this podcast again. If you haven't subscribed, subscribe. If you haven't followed, follow. But I'm going to ask you to go back and listen to it again. And I want you to write those five areas down. Okay? Change your language. Okay. Empowering anchors. Ask better questions. Visualize assess. Interrupt negative thinking. And above all, Above all, fill your mind with God's truth. If you're a believer in Christ Jesus, then that should be easy for you to do. If you're not a believer yet, you haven't surrendered yet, and you want to know more about the faith I have as a Christian, then reach out to me. I'd be happy to share with you. Because when God's truth becomes your dominant thought, everything begins to change. So again, thank you for listening to Prosper with Wayne Podcast.
