The Green Tunnel: Trailer

Welcome to The Green Tunnel, a podcast about the history of the Appalachian Trail. We're bringing you the history of the most iconic long-distance hiking trail in the United States.

Why do so many people call the Appalachian trail the Green Tunnel? Well, it’s because sometimes it feels like all you can see on the trail are the leaves of the trees surrounding you. After a while, it could seem like everything on the trail is absolutely the same. Just mile after mile of green.

But in reality, when you’re hiking on the Appalachian Trail, you’re hiking through 100 years of history. And making some history of your own. In this podcast, we’re going to tell you about some of that history. Stories that will surprise you no matter how much time you’ve spent on the AT. Even if you’ve never set foot on the trail and are just curious about America’s most iconic long distance hiking path, there’s a lot here for you too.

We’re going to look beyond the green to tell the stories of the people who have made the Appalachian Trail, what it is today. And we’re going to explore how those stories fit into the larger history of this beautiful place. I’m Mills Kelly, and I’m a historian of the AT.

I hope you’ll come along with us as we look closely at the first 100 years of the Appalachian Trail. The first episode of The Green Tunnel podcast will be out soon. In the meantime, make sure you follow the show wherever you get your podcasts and on social media. You can find all those links on our website:
