The Story of How This Show Found Its True Audience
When PK launched Momma’s Motivational Messages four years ago, she had a clear vision: to pay it forward to a younger generation. Millennials. The momma providing inspiration and encouragement to women navigating life in their thirties.
But somewhere in the research, in the listening, in the honest work of trying to serve an audience she did not yet fully know -- she realized something. She did not know millennials well enough to speak to them the way they needed.
So she pivoted. She aimed at Gen X women, the ones going through midlife transitions, the ones juggling careers and teenagers and aging parents all at once. Women standing at exactly that crossroads where everything they have been holding together is shifting at once.
And it took her longer than she would like to admit to see what was right in front of her all along. Gen X women in that season of life are midlifers. They are empty nesters. They are the women she could relate to, not from research but from having already walked this exact stretch of road herself.
That was always her sweet spot. That was always her people. She just needed four years to find the name for it.

It's coming, and I'm so excited about it. But here's what I've learned about myself over the course of building this show. I do my best work when I'm set up properly, when the foundation is solid, when I'm not scrambling to catch up with myself, as I found myself doing during the four years of this show.
[00:00:42] And right now, I need a little more time to get that foundation right before I step fully into the next chapter. So let me tell you how I got here, because the story matters, and because some of you have been with me long enough [00:01:00] to have watched this happen in real time. When I first started this podcast, my goal was to pay it forward to millennials, which is why it was called Mama's Motivational Messages.
[00:01:15] I saw myself as the mama providing inspiration and encouragement to a younger generation.
[00:01:23] But in my ongoing research to provide content of real value, I realized pretty quickly that I didn't actually know millennials well enough to speak to them the way they needed. So I pivoted. I started aiming at stressed-out Gen X women. Women juggling careers, teenagers, and aging parents all at once.
