Great show, great guests
Entertaining, likable, great guests and unique format. Happy to have found another excellent comedy podcast!
Great
Love it
Mike is the best
Mike’s been my favorite comedian for many years, he’s great and this podcast is great —both funny and introspective, just like Mike.
Working it out!!!
I have just recently found this podcast!!!! Thank you Mike. I am a fan of all your work and love the guests line up, but mostly love your humility and humor. I am also a comic at heart with an audience of one (myself)!!! So I entertain myself all the time especially in this time of covid (reliving materials or adding on) I am soo happy that you had your beginning episodes with my favs. I think I heard you first on This American life - and fell in love, since I love Ira soo much!!! You are a fantastic artist!!! I believe my purpose was to appreciate all artistic forms since I am so challenged but an avid admirer and appreciator of all art!!!!
Good Pick-Me-Up
Whenever I’m feeling down, I turn to this podcast. Even when Mike and his guests discuss serious issues, they never fail to make me laugh out loud. And there’s plenty of straight comedy, too. I also love the insights into standup and the process of creating a show.
The Mouse Story
The whole story is a lead up to the most important part-we are all part of someone else’s story, which is so relevant these days.
The only podcast I’ve ever reviewed
I listen to dozens of podcasts and this is the only one I’ve ever felt compelled to review. It’s excellent - well-edited, warm, thought-provoking, and funny. Side effects have included discovering the work of comedians I didn’t know and the first creative energy I’ve experienced during the pandemic. Listening to Working It Out inspired me to start journaling and playing the trumpet I haven’t picked up since high school. Thanks for putting this into the world Mike and team.
Nathan Lane 5 star
I so enjoyed your Nathan Lane episode. It was so relaxed and natural. Not a lot of schtick. He is one of my favorites as well as one of our National Treasures.
Hits the spot
Such a unique behind the curtain look at comedy and life and great interviews! Love U Mike. Thank you for doing this.
A hilarious lighthearted listen
I’ve been following this podcast since it came out, it’s incredibly hilarious to hear comedians work out new bits and discuss comedy together. A fun and lighthearted listen that I would absolutely recommend. I’ve also attended one of his virtual shows which was such a fun night.
Great podcast!
I really enjoy listening to Mike work through the comedic process with guests. His guests are all so funny and I really enjoy how is friendship with his guests is evident.
So grateful
I would have loved this podcast pre-pandemic, but it has earned a lot of bonus points for providing laughs during a challenging time. I look forward to it every week and have loved the guests. I also enjoy the endorsements for local bookstores and great causes.
Easy listening that’s also funny
I love Mike’s story telling and how intimate it is. The recent Taylor Tomlinson episode was a stand out. Glad this podcast exists
Give a listen, get a laugh
If you like standup, especially if you like Mike Birbiglia, you’ll love this podcast. It’s great insight into how Birbigs writes his stuff, and how stand up works behind the scenes. Plus it’s comedians talking to each other and working on new stuff, and if that doesn’t make you laugh, I don’t know what will.Give it a listen. You won’t regret it.
Ear Balm
I first heard Mike Birbiglia on This American Life years ago, and something about his voice and speaking cadence has always been extremely pleasing to me. Engaging and soothing at the same time. Being able to hear him all the time now in podcast form is a gift. His guests are wonderful and the conversations are both funny and genuine.
Lovely Listening
I find this podcast to be wonderful for all writers and creatives. A window into process plus a healthy heap of laughs and human connection in crappy times. Thanks for putting this podcast on and creating it!!
Amazing comedy podcast!
I was already a huge Mike Birbiglia fan, but this podcast exceeded my expectations. Always fun, good for a laugh, and a peek behind the curtain of standup. Thanks Mike!
It’s the best
I love hearing Mike’s insight on the topics he discusses with his guests, whether it’s during the slow round or when they’re actually “working it out”. Sometimes I pretend I’m on the show and answer the slow round questions to myself. This podcast is always interesting and will always make you laugh regardless of what is going on in the world around you. The first episode came out just a week after my mom died and it’s been helping me through it one week at a time since then.
A 7-layer bean dip of the creative process
Mike was already one of my favorite comedians, but letting us in on his creative process and how he builds layers of storytelling makes him all-time. I have always admired how much trust he puts in his audience to follow along, never patronizing us with superficial comedy, but this is another level. The pod brings you closer to him and his guests, making for a wonderful masterclass in being proactive with creativity and inspiration, which as a designer, has unblocked me through this pandemic. Thanks, Mike.
Such a fun show!
The guests are interesting, conversations funny and it is great to hear how comedians work on their material. Glad I discovered this podcast!
My love for this podcast eclipses Mike’s love of pizza
One of the things I miss most during the pandemic is live comedy. More than concerts or plays, comedy shows were where I spent most of my entertainment budget in the before times. Mike has always been a favorite of mine, so I was thrilled to see he started a podcast. I LOVE when I get to hear the behind-the-scenes of a joke, story or song I love, and this podcast is pulling back the curtain and inviting us in to watch some true masters work. I’ve even been introduced to a few comedians I previously assumed weren’t my style, but the way Mike structures his conversations let’s the listener learn about the guest as a human, not just listen to their jokes. I’ve been inspired to check out their specials after hearing them riff with Mike. I hope this show continues, even post-pandemic, because it’s one of the small handful of podcasts I’ve subscribed to because it’s content I always want. Can’t wait to hear more!
He’s done it folks
Mike has been a part of many podcasts and he’s taken all that he’s learned and made a wonderful one himself. Keep it up! The new interlude sounds are great too
Simply the best
This podcast is simply the best. Mike asks thoughtful questions to each one of his guests that get you yourself thinking and reminiscing. Hearing him and his guests work out their new material is also such a treat, and I can’t wait to hear what makes it (and what doesn’t) in the final cut.
