It’s the best
I love hearing Mike’s insight on the topics he discusses with his guests, whether it’s during the slow round or when they’re actually “working it out”. Sometimes I pretend I’m on the show and answer the slow round questions to myself. This podcast is always interesting and will always make you laugh regardless of what is going on in the world around you. The first episode came out just a week after my mom died and it’s been helping me through it one week at a time since then.
A 7-layer bean dip of the creative process
Mike was already one of my favorite comedians, but letting us in on his creative process and how he builds layers of storytelling makes him all-time. I have always admired how much trust he puts in his audience to follow along, never patronizing us with superficial comedy, but this is another level. The pod brings you closer to him and his guests, making for a wonderful masterclass in being proactive with creativity and inspiration, which as a designer, has unblocked me through this pandemic. Thanks, Mike.
Such a fun show!
The guests are interesting, conversations funny and it is great to hear how comedians work on their material. Glad I discovered this podcast!
My love for this podcast eclipses Mike’s love of pizza
One of the things I miss most during the pandemic is live comedy. More than concerts or plays, comedy shows were where I spent most of my entertainment budget in the before times. Mike has always been a favorite of mine, so I was thrilled to see he started a podcast. I LOVE when I get to hear the behind-the-scenes of a joke, story or song I love, and this podcast is pulling back the curtain and inviting us in to watch some true masters work. I’ve even been introduced to a few comedians I previously assumed weren’t my style, but the way Mike structures his conversations let’s the listener learn about the guest as a human, not just listen to their jokes. I’ve been inspired to check out their specials after hearing them riff with Mike. I hope this show continues, even post-pandemic, because it’s one of the small handful of podcasts I’ve subscribed to because it’s content I always want. Can’t wait to hear more!
He’s done it folks
Mike has been a part of many podcasts and he’s taken all that he’s learned and made a wonderful one himself. Keep it up! The new interlude sounds are great too
Simply the best
This podcast is simply the best. Mike asks thoughtful questions to each one of his guests that get you yourself thinking and reminiscing. Hearing him and his guests work out their new material is also such a treat, and I can’t wait to hear what makes it (and what doesn’t) in the final cut.
Comedy nerd heaven
This podcast is gold for comedy nerds. It is such an enjoyable listen; I laugh and learn each episode. It’s fascinating to hear comedians work on their craft. My only complaint is that I wish the episodes were longer. I’d give this 10 stars if I could. Great podcast!
Such a fun show!
Great mix of comedy nerding and great talks between talented people... lovely!
Two enthusiastic thumbs up! Fine holiday fun!
All “Clueless” quotes aside, this is by far my favorite podcast out in the world of podcasting. I love hearing comics work out their new material, and I love the thoughtful and funny conversations Mike Birbiglia has with his guests. Hearing the exchange of ideas is like being a fly on the wall in the green room. Plus! If you watch any of his livestream shows you can hear how the material he brings to his guests has continued to evolve. It’s such a great time, especially now since we’re all confined to our homes and going to a Thursday show at a comedy club isn’t exactly in the cards for most of us.
Highly Recommend
This has quickly become one of my favorite podcasts of all time. Listening to Mike and his guests work out material in from of me (and my ears) has been an amazing behind the scenes experience. This is a great podcasts for all artists, no matter the medium.
(Potential) COVID Cure.
Has it been tested? Yes. But not scientifically and not by any doctors or labs but like I’m sure it could if we tried really hard. Laughter is the best medicine, no? Thank you to wonderful humans who have kept me laughing during these “times”.
Yes
What a fantastic, intentional, loving, joy inducing way to listen to rough material in a tough time.
Thank you for this show!!!
Thank God for this show! It’s quickly become my new favorite listen. I learn, I laugh, I think, I relate, repeat. I know the whole thing is supposed to feel incomplete/unfinished but I wouldn’t change a thing. I wish more storytellers/comedians would share their creative process so freely as Birbigs. He makes it sound easy and accessible while clearly demonstrating he’s the best at what he does. 0 regrets from listening. My friends are annoyed at how much I bring up this show.
Oona Knows Best
Clever, fun, thoughtful. Great guests, and the sound quality is on point thanks to the pillow fort.

this is such a good podcast for such good causes
MIKE BIRBIGLIA INVENTED JOKES
Mike Birbiglia invented jokes and I think we should all thank him by listening to his podcast.
Phenomenal
Phenomenal podcast— honest, heartfelt, and entertaining, with all the biting wit and levity you would expect from Mike Birbiglia. I look forward to it every week. Thanks for creating this gem, keep it up!
Opportunity
These shows are a lesson wrapped in a confessional tied up in a therapy session dressed like a casual date. I’m grateful for the chance to listen to these folks share ideas while I walk my dog. There’s a whole lot worse stuff I could spend my time on. Top five pandemic podcasts for percolating my brain juices⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is my review
This has quickly become my favorite podcast. surpassing “you made it weird” with Pete Holmes mostly due to the skilled editing and conciseness. If any of my enemies are reading this review, please check out this podcast.
Insight into Creative Process
Love this podcast. I’ve never had the opportunity to learn about how comedy comes to life, so this is a wonderful mix of entertainment and creative process. Each of the guests bring something different and special. Mike is the good natured anchor to it all. Makes you laugh and invites you to think.
Should I sue?
Do I deserve compensation for the hazard cry laughing while driving poses? Yes. Will I settle for Mike Birbiglia continuing to create great bits with fantastic guests? Absolutely. Working It Out is one of my favorite podcasts and I’m sure it’ll be yours as well.
