Ep. 4: The Manifestor Energy Type

Manifestors are the fire starters of Human Design. Independent, innovative, and designed to initiate, they’re here to bring new ideas into the world and create momentum around them.

In this episode, we’re breaking down Manifestor energy in a simple, practical way, including:

  • What makes Manifestor energy different from the other energy types
  • Why their aura can feel powerful, selective, or hard to read
  • Their strategy of informing and initiating
  • Why peace is a sign of alignment and anger can signal that something is off
  • Where Manifestors can get stuck, including people pleasing, asking permission, overworking, and feeling controlled
  • How to support a Manifestor partner, friend, or child
  • Simple experiments Manifestors can try out in the wild

If you’re a Manifestor, this episode will help you understand why you may have spent your life wanting the freedom to do things your own way. And if you have a Manifestor in your life, it might help you how to support that fiercely independent person a whole lot better.

Sandy: Welcome to Human Design Field Notes. This is where we learn human design in a way that's simple, fun, and actually useful in real life. The kind of thing you can try for yourself, talk about with your girlfriends, and before long, you'll want to know everyone's chart. And I'm not just teaching it, I'm testing it too. I'm rebuilding my coaching business using my own human design and I'll be sharing the field notes as I go. The experiments, the insights, the wins, the mistakes, and probably a few things we can all have a good laugh about. Because human design isn't meant to be stared at on a chart. It's meant to be lived. I'm your host, Sandy Connery. Let's see where this takes us. Welcome to episode four. We are continuing our series on human design energy types, and today we're talking about manifestors. And just as a reminder, an energy type in human design is the unique way that your body naturally generates and uses and exchanges energy with the world. We want to know what our energy type is because once we know this, we can work with it. We can experience less resistance in our life. We can have more ease. We can learn how to tap into our intuition, make better decisions, and it just makes you understand yourself in all the different environments we find ourselves throughout our life. So there are five energy types: generators, manifestors, manifesting generators, projectors, and reflectors. The last episode we covered generators and today we're talking about manifestors. if you are a manifester, you're definitely going to want to listen to this episode Or if you find out that you have a manifestor in your life, towards the end of the episode, we're going to be covering how to support a manifestor. Okay, so how do you know if you're a manifestor? You want to take a look at your human design chart, which you can get at sandyconnery.com, and it will be listed in the right-hand column. It will just say energy type or type and it will tell you what you are. So in our population, there are about 9% of the people are manifestors. And manifestors are our fire starters. They are our visionaries. They're the ones who start movements. They make huge impacts in this world. Of all of the different types of energy, let me say that again. Of all the different energy types, they are the only ones that can create, that can initiate and create momentum around their own ideas and get people on board to support these ideas. That is why it's called they're called a manifester. So the aura aura of a manifestor in traditional human design, it's described as closed and repelling. My teacher, Leah McLeod, calls it protective. And I think that's a much obviously more positive, but I think that's a better term. And I would even add selective. It's a very protective and selective aura. It's depicted as a very dense, tight ball. And for manifestors, this works because their aura creates a boundary around them that supports their autonomy. And other people, when you interact with a manifestor, you might experience it as somewhat hard to read or like really powerful energy or somewhat intimidating or very, very self-contained. So manifestors' auras do not naturally pull people in the way a generator's does. We spoke about that last episode where generators' aura is big, welcoming, magnetic energy. that's not a manifestor. Their their aura is more of a boundary, kind of stating like this is my space. And it works because they want to manifest things, right? But they only want to attract the people in situations that they need. And they want to repel everyone else that are gonna get in the way. I recently saw a really funny Instagram reel made by a manifestor and she was saying that when she walks into a room, you're gonna know it and some people aren't gonna like me and that's okay because I don't need everyone. I only need those that are gonna help me bring my ideas to life. Right. And I love that. And she was saying it in this really funny, cocky way, and it made me laugh very hard. And that's basically the the manifestor in a nutshell. So if you're a manifester, you are probably incredibly independent, you're self-directed, you do not like to be told what to do. You do not like when people suggest things because you take it as like they're telling you what to do. You are bold, you are super innovative, you can be interpreted as intimidating by some people. You are very, very comfortable doing things your own way. You are not interested at all in asking permission. You can create a massive momentum around one of your ideas. It is very easy for you to reinvent yourself. You've probably had a million jobs, And you're super impactful. People tend to feel your presence. You have this energy and you're instantly going to attract or repel people. So you are always initiating from this like internal idea or impulse or urge and bringing original ideas into the world. That is what the world needs from you and expects from you the way that you're designed. A manifestor can just think like, I'm gonna start this business, or I'm gonna start a YouTube channel, or I'm gonna change how we do things at work. And they just start moving, they just start making those changes. So the difference between manifestors and all the other different energy types is that initiating, creating something in from an internal idea is part of their natural mechanics or wiring. Now, one difference between manifestors and generators, which we spoke about last episode. Is that manifestors do not have a generator style sustainable sacral energy? Manifestors, you work more in births. So you have a huge wave of energy, an idea, you want to initiate something, and then you need to back off and rest. So it's this cycle between these creative ideas of like working, resting, working, resting, and try not to fall into the trap of you know, forcing this consistent action that is so dominant in our society that work, work, work, work. That was created by generators, it works for generators, it does not work for manifestors. So let's move on to the strategy for manifestors. Every energy type has a specific strategy. And this is like you can think of this as the strategy as like the best approach for you to create flow and ease in your life. If you could just follow this strategy, your life is just gonna become a lot more easier. So a a lot of us try to like think or use our mind and logic and try to force or figure out our life path but our strategy if we're able to understand our energy type and what our strategy is it's going to instruct you or help you understand how your aura naturally moves naturally responds or weights to create this sort of smooth flowing life and again my favorite way of thinking about this is with from Leah McLeod is that it connects you to aligned opportunity. So understanding your strategy is incredibly important. So, for manifestors, your strategy is to inform and initiate. You're here to create new things, you get an idea, you're gonna want to do it. To make those ideas come to life, the best thing you can do is a for inform, and I'm gonna explain this in a second, and then initiate. So The inform part is often confusing. It does not mean that you're going to ask for permission like, hey, I've got this idea. Do you think is it okay if I go and do it? so the inform part does not mean asking permission before you act. It means informing the people who are going to be impacted by your implementation of your idea. So the whole thing here is that we need the manifestors in our world to create things, to come up with new ideas for our society. Our manifestors, we don't want you to be hindered or resisted or questioned or tried to be stopped. Or someone in your life getting upset, be like, what are you doing? Or feeling blindsided. The way you can clear that is using your strategy and simply saying it like heads up, hey, I'm gonna do this thing. So you're not, again, you're not asking permission. You're just like, hey, people on my team, I have this idea and I'm gonna let you know and it's gonna impact you this way, and then you're clear to go in and initiate that idea. I always think about my grandmother. I don't know if she was a manifestor, but she would just get ideas and around the house and she would just go and do things. So I remember her you know, painting the exterior of her home. We we drove up and here she was painting her house green. And my grandfather was always so frustrated with her because he'd be like, What are you doing now? Why are you painting the outside of the house? Like, what's going on? And I again I don't know if she was a manifester, but if she were, a better strategy for her, if she's got these ideas of what she wants to do around the house, is to tell her husband, like, hey, on Sunday I'm gonna paint the house. And then he probably would be fine with it. It was just that he was always so shocked by her actions. She just went and did things. So that's a bit of an example of how manifesting using a a manifestor could use the strategy instead of just going and doing. Tell the people, you don't need to tell the whole world, tell the people who are going to be impacted before you go and initiate. Okay, so let's talk now about manifestors' signature themes. So signature theme in human design really means like what does it feel like to be in alignment? So for a manifestor, the feeling of like you're on the right path is peace. So when manifestors are operating in alignment, That signature theme is peace. It's the feeling of being able to move through life without being constantly questioned or stopped or controlled or resisted. And it peace meaning like not lying in a sound bath piece, but more like I'm free to move. And you can see how that strategy of informing and initiating can lead to peace, right? People aren't gonna question you or tell you you're like, what are you doing now? What's happening, they're not gonna have that attitude because you've informed them of your idea and you've cleared the past path for you to implement. So it's very peaceful for you to go and initiate your ideas. Human design also has a not self-theme, which means you're kind of out of alignment, which is anger for manifestors. So your red light is anger if you're constantly feeling angry and thinking. Why is everyone in my way? Why do I always have to explain myself? Why won't people just let me do what I want to do? That anger can be a useful, you know, signpost that, hey, something needs to change here. Like just pause, take a look, and you know, are you using your strategy to make all your ideas come to life? so green light is peace, you're on the right track. Red light is anger. And it's just a signpost that it's maybe signaling to you that you're asking permission, that someone's trying to control you, that you're suppressing your natural urge to initiate, that you're overworked, you're depleted, you're feeling angry. So peace and anger are your navigation tools. So let's talk about where manifestors might get stuck. So the number one thing, as we've kind of spoken about already, is not informing. So remember your strategy, making your life easier, bringing in aligned opportunities. is to inform and initiate. you might just want to go or buy or do, create, build, leave, start something without telling anyone. And their reaction, as we've said, is like, what are you doing? Like people around you are so like baffled by this constant like change and energy and like doing things and creating things and new ideas. And that can bring resistance. And we don't want resistance. We want you to build your ideas. We want you to initiate. So just take a look if that's happening to you. Who do you need to inform? Who are you going to impact with this idea? Just start informing and things will clear beautifully for you. Some people, some manifestors tend to ask permission instead of informing. So you may have learned as a child through our society. That your independence and all your ideas, all your amazing ideas, were all a little too much. So what you did was you started asking everyone if you could do something, and you're asking for mission before you move on to an idea. And that can feel really, really constraining and really angering. And alongside that, manifestors can also become the greatest of people pleasers. So they will learn. very early on that they're like moving really fast, they're they want to do this, and then they want to do this and they want to do this, and they've maybe told that they're too much to tone it down, to stick with one thing, not be so flaky. people may have found you as a child, maybe you were really disruptive or super intense and very, very unpredictable. And people around you didn't like that. They didn't feel comfortable with that. So to be accepted, to make everyone around you okay or comfortable with you, you may have started to play small and quiet and try to fit in and start to people please and seek approval. But this is not how we are wired to live, right? This is not we, but the manifestors. This is not how manifestors are wired to live. You were meant to like make things in the world, bring your ideas to life. Another place that w manifestors might get stuck is they might Try to operate like a generator, which a lot of the non-generator types try to do because our world is kind of like work, work, work, work, work. That is the conditioning, that is the messaging. so manifestors do not have the same source of energy that generators do. And so if you're like grinding it out all day and you're just like seeing all the generators around you work really hard and you're just finding it super hard, it's because that's not how you're wired. You work better in births, as we said earlier. You create something, you pull back and rest. your work and energy should be cyclical rather than go, go, go like a generator. Another place that generators sometimes struggle is simply being available to everyone all the time. You are as a manifestor, you are not meant to respond to everyone and be available all the time. You might be feeling pressure to respond to all the emails and all the calls and all the everything that goes on in our life and always be on. Again, that is not how you are wired. So that is social pressure expecting you to do all these things, but you are designed to initiate. And when your energy is spent responding to all these external influences that are coming at you. You are exhausted. You are burnt out. And you have no more energy to do what you're meant to do, which is to think of things and create things and start these movements. That's what gives you energy. so you need to initiate and then you need to rest. You need to initiate and then you need to rest. That's a cycle that's going to give you more energy not responding constantly to the outside world. Another thing is trying to do everything alone. So you are built to be ultra ultra independent, but that doesn't mean you need to execute on every single piece of your vision. Bring in those generators, bring in those people who are going to help you. use that aura of yours to bring in the people who are meant to help you. And you can pass the baton onto someone once you've sorta started something. You can like leave it and move on. You might struggle with being controlled. Probably this is a definite. You don't like being controlled. You don't like being told how to do it, when to do it, why you shouldn't do it, whether you're allowed to do it or not. I I think a lot of the manifestors identify with like this rebel archetype. even a suggestion of can feel like someone is telling you what to do. Even if the person saying it didn't mean, you know, go do that thing. Like for example, I just came back from Norway on a bike trip. And if I said to a manifester, like, my God, I love Norway. It was fantastic. You know, you should check out going to Norway on your next trip. They might be like, Look, I can figure out my own holidays by myself. I don't need you to tell me what where to go on holidays. Even though that's not how I intend it, intended that suggestion, but often manifestors can take it that way. Okay, so let's talk about manifestors in relationships. So maybe you're like, my God, this sounds like my son or my partner. and of course, feel free to go to my website, sandyconry.com, and run their birth date through that chart generator to see maybe you do have manifestors in your life. So if you do, here's how you can best support them. So allow them their own autonomy. They are incredibly independent. Don't automatically interpret that their independence as rejection of you. Do not try to micromanage or control a manifestor. They hate to feel like someone is controlling them. Encourage them to tell you what they're planning. So maybe they don't know about human design, they don't know what their strategy is, but you do. And they're gonna be a lot happier. if they are able to embrace that concept of informing. So encourage them to tell you what they're planning. Like what are you thinking? What do you what's what's your next job? What's your next move? What do you how do you want to design your bedroom or whatever it may be? They don't need your permission, but it's going to re it's going to help the resistance if you know what they want to do. Also Make sure you understand that their plans may change. So this can cause frustration with people around manifestors. So you know, they're like, why are you always changing what you want to do? Or why are you always changing jobs? If you don't understand this energy type, it can be incredibly confusing. Like just stick with one thing. But that's not how the manifestor is built. so it's better to just accept it and let it be sort of this exciting dynamic in the relationship that there's this unpredictability is very very, very natural to their energy type. And one side note, if you have a manifest your child, you are probably going to see that they are switching interests or sports or hobbies very suddenly. They're going to try this and then this and they're going to go painting and then they're going go horseback riding and then go ice hockey and then they're going to go fencing. And they also may be that kid that takes leadership roles within the classroom or within their friend group. I think looking at human design and kids is just fascinating. And I think we'll probably do some more episodes on that. manifestors are going to go hard and then they're going to need to retreat. So give them that space to recharge. Do not expect them to be going, you know, 24-7. And most importantly, if a manifestor in your life says, tells you what they're going to do, do not immediately start giving them reasons it won't work. Really support this natural energy of ideas and movements and creation. Do not knock them down by saying, Hey, there's here's the reasons that's a terrible idea. Okay, so for all of you who are manifestors, I've got a couple suggestions of like what to do out there in the wild, out to what to do out there in the field, living your life as a manifestor. Practice informing. That is your strategy. Just instead of just going ahead and doing things, think about who who is going to be impacted and tell them. And I guarantee you're gonna find things are go so much more easily. Follow that urge. If you get an urge or an impulse to call someone or move something or start something, go and do it. That is what you're here to do. Don't talk yourself automatically out of it. This is your energy doing its thing. And I mentioned this before, but like if ask yourself if you're a people pleaser. Are you do you know most of us know if we're people pleasers? This is so big for manifestors and especially women. And this is where you can really start to explore your energy type of being this manifestor and start to really tap into your creative abilities. You're not designed to make sense to everybody and As I said before, we get these messages like you're too much, you're you're making you're doing too much too many different things, like just tone it down. My best advice if you are a people pleaser is go and listen to my friend Sarah Fist's podcast called X Good Girl Podcast. She is her whole body of work is around helping people pleasers. That is the best resource I can recommend. if for those of you who are who identify as people pleaser. And then rest, experiment. with rest and notice if you're telling yourself that you need to go, that you're lazy, that you need to work harder, you know, to keep up, but really lean into this cycle of burst, rest, burst, creative burst rest instead of forcing your yourself into a nine to five energy pat pattern if you're able. And then on the same lines, sleep. Manifestors need to get into bed before they're actually tired and allow some time, d some downtime just to unwind for an hour or so. And for those manifestors who, you know, you know you're a manifester and maybe you feel like you haven't quite been are aren't quite living into this energy type and what you're here to do, a couple questions for you. Ask yourself, what would you do if nobody needed to understand it? What would you do if you didn't need to please everyone? What would happen in your life if you started tr trusting these Urges, these bursts of ideas, these impulses without having to get approval from everyone. What would happen if you just followed that creative impulse? All right, I'm gonna leave it there for all of you manifesters.
