Ep. 5: The Manifesting Generator Energy Type

Manifesting Generators, or Mani Gens, are the fast-moving, multi-passionate energy type of Human Design. They have the sustainable sacral energy of a Generator combined with the initiating energy of a Manifestor, which means they’re often here to do things a little differently, and rarely in a straight line.

In this episode, we’re breaking down Manifesting Generator energy in a simple, practical way, including:

  • Why Mani Gens tend to be multi-passionate, fast-moving, and constantly evolving
  • Their strategy of waiting to respond and then informing
  • Why satisfaction and peace can signal alignment, while frustration and anger can tell you something is off
  • Why Mani Gens are famous for skipping steps and finding shortcuts
  • Where they can get stuck, including people pleasing, boredom, staying too long, and trying to force shortcuts
  • How to support a Manifesting Generator partner, friend, or child
  • Why changing interests, careers, or directions doesn’t necessarily mean you’re flaky
  • How Mani Gens can create businesses and lives that leave room for variety, change, and reinvention
  • Simple ways to experiment with your Manifesting Generator energy out in the wild

If you’re a Manifesting Generator, this episode is an invitation to stop apologizing for the pivots, unfinished projects, changing interests, and unconventional paths that may have followed you throughout your life. Your path doesn’t have to be linear to be right for you.

And if you have a Mani Gen in your life, this episode might help you understand why giving them room to change their mind, follow their excitement, and do things their own way can make such a difference.

Sandy: Welcome to Human Design Field Notes. This is where we learn human design in a way that's simple, fun, and actually useful in real life. The kind of thing you can try for yourself, talk about with your girlfriends, and before long, you'll want to know everyone's chart. And I'm not just teaching it, I'm testing it too. I'm rebuilding my coaching business using my own human design and I'll be sharing the field notes as I go. The experiments, the insights, the wins, the mistakes, and probably a few things we can all have a good laugh about. Because human design isn't meant to be stared at on a chart. It's meant to be lived. I'm your host, Sandy Connery. Let's see where this takes us. Welcome to episode five. So we are continuing our study of the five different energy types in human design. And we're talking about manifesting generators or affectionately known as many gens. And just a quick review: knowing your human design energy type means that you understand how your energy naturally interacts with life, with people, with situations. and in human design there are five different energy types: generators, manifestors, manigens, projectors, ref, and reflectors. And if you want to know what yours is, please head over to my site, sandyconnery.com, click on the free human design chart tab, and you can print that out and it will tell you exactly what type you are. Okay, so let's talk about many gens. Let's learn about them. So many gens are about 33% of the population. And combined with generators, they're about 35. Those two categories are most of us are manigens or generators. Manigens are hybrids, as the name suggests, hybrids of manifestors and generators. And in traditional human design teaching, A manifesting generator is not separated out as a separate type on its own. Instead, they're seen as a subset of generators. So the old school human designs will not speak about manifesting generators as their own unique energy type. But most popular, it's called pop HD or pop human design. Most pop HD today Have separated out many gens as their sep as their own type. And that's what we're gonna do here today. We're gonna talk about them as their own unique energy type. so as a hybrid of a generator and a manifester, they are uniquely fueled by their sustainable sacral energy like a generator, but they're also able to manifest their ideas like a manifestor. So they are these people who are powerful and fast-paced and magnetic and able to bring things to life. They really are the best of both types. I love many gens. I actually have a little bit of many gen jealousy. I wish I was one. But the aura, when we talk about an aura of a of a many gen, when you're in the presence of one, it's very similar to a generator. So they are big, they are open, they are inviting, and they are definitely magnetic. So when you meet a manigen, they have this like uplifting quality about them. They are able to draw people in. They are most certainly multipassionate. They usually have a lot of different interests, or they keep switching interests, or they keep switching careers. They move so fast and they may get really frustrated when things move slow, whether that's like systems or people. moving slow that just brings them to frustration and anger. They can bring, as I said, like a manifesto, they can they can create things. They can bring their ideas to life very, very, very quickly. They do not want to be boxed in. They don't want to be labeled as one thing or always do one things. So their careers may be extremely diverse. They are not going to be the person who you know, is it sitting in a corporate job for for thirty plus years. They're constantly reinventing themselves. They're constantly making changes and pivoting so that they don't get bored. My mom is actually a manifesting generator and she it was a nurse and so she stayed a nurse for her whole career. However, within that career she was constantly pivoting. So she was, you know, like worked on the ward as they called it back then. Then she went to emergency and then she was on the burn unit. And then she was outpatien seeing people with asthma. So she was constantly changing careers, not careers, sorry, changing sort of focus in her career. Manigens, what's really interesting about them is they skip steps. You find sort shortcuts. They get to the answer without following the expected steps. And this can be fantastic for when you want to get things done. It is great if you have a manny gen on your team. I love this, I think this is what I'm jealous about is this ability to get to things or to find the answer unexpectedly or without following the expected steps. So every type of energy in human design has a specific strategy that will bring into their life the best opportunities for them. your strategy explains how you move through life with less resistance and more ease and better timing. So when you work with your energy type, in this case many gen, and you when you can work with that many gen energy instead of against it, your life is just so much better. when you come across different situations, different opportunities, different people, different decisions, you know how to handle it and you make the best decisions for yourself. So for the manigen, my god, I have notes in front of me and it keeps autocorrecting. For many gen, it says mannequin and it's cracking me up. So for the mannequin, the strategy is wait to respond and then inform. And if you've listened to the previous two episodes, you're gonna know that that's a combination of the generator strategy, which is to wait to respond. and the manifesting strategy which is to inform and initiate. So it's a combination, wait to respond and then inform. So it's this two-part, And the manigene first must wait to respond, as I said, like a generator. They need to wait for something in their life to appear and then check in with their body. It's that lower Below the belly gut response. It's a physical yes or no. it might be, you know, a project or a person or something you want to buy. If there is a pull forward, a pull towards it, is it a hell yes? They have to determine that. Is there real excitement about it? Or is it like, I'm not sure. kind of feels heavy. I'm a little bit indifferent. That is a no, right? This answer, this yes or no answer arrives quickly and you will feel it in your body. The second part of a Manny Gen's strategy is to inform. So as we talked about in the previous episode with manifestors, we need to inform people of what we want to do, of these ideas, of what we want to bring to life. It is not asking permission, hey, can I do this? It's like heads up. To the people who are going to be affected, it's it's a heads up about what you're planning. So what that does is it prevents people who are going to be affected from thinking, my God, what is she doing now? They need the context about your ideas. I they need to know the rationale behind your decision so they can get out of your way. Telling people what you're gonna do is clearing the path. And for managens, they are just constantly pivoting, right? From one thing to another. And if you don't tell the people around you, again, you don't have to tell everyone, but you have to tell people who are going to be impacted about this pivot, if you don't explain that, you can cause a lot of confusion around you. People just feel like they're like, what, what, what, like whiplash, like what so confused? What are you doing now? But with an explanation of like, hey, here's my plan and here's why, you become clear, you become decisive, and people will get out of the way and support you. So for a many gen, the strategy is to wait for something to cause that excited response. And then when you make a decision, inform those to whom it's going to affect. And that's the way that you can ride momentum. That's the way you can feel energized. And that's the way you can feel aligned. Okay? So that's your strategy. Every single energy type also has a what's called a signature theme. And that is what we look towards. It's an emotion. It's an emotion that signals that yes, on the right path, on the right track. Yes, you're in alignment. So for for Manny Jens, it's two because they're a hybrid. They have satisfaction, and peace. So when you are on the right path, you are engaged. You feel satisfied, you feel fulfilled, you feel free. You're moving fast as your energy wants you to. You feel good. Things feel natural and results for you can arrive very, very quickly. You have a not signature theme, which is your emotion or signal that red light something is not quite right. You're kind of veering off the path. For many gens, they will feel frustration and they will feel anger. They're gonna feel frustrated when they're working on the wrong things that don't excite me. They probably have said yes to things that maybe their body said no to. They're saying yes, maybe a little bit of people pleasing. They feel obligated, pressure, socialized, conditioned to say yes, because that's what you do when you're a nice person. You say yes, but it's actually a no in the body, but you override that and Choose to say yes to something and it feels frustrating because it's not right for you. You can also feel angry when something is blocking you or it's in your way, it needs to be addressed. So this is the manifestor side of Manny Jens, this anger. if you're you're probably going to feel anger when someone is stopping you or there's too much red tape and it's slowing you down. Or someone is telling you, trying to tell you what to do or how you should be doing something. And anything that feels anything that slows you down can result in anger. And anything that feels like you really shouldn't be working on or focused on, you've said yes for the wrong reasons, that's gonna feel frustration. So just to sum it up, for many gens, when things are in alignment, they're gonna feel satisfaction, they're gonna feel free, they're gonna feel peace. And when things are out of alignment, they're gonna feel frustrated and they're gonna feel angry. Let's talk about where managens can get stuck in life. Number one, they can often, because they move so quickly, they often expect people to match their energy and their productivity level. And that, if you're a managen, that just isn't the case. Unless you're around a lot of generators, everyone else is not going to be able to match your energy. So it's just good to know that you operate at a frequency that most people don't. Two is people pleasing. So just like manifestors, many gens can get stuck in this people-pleasing loop where they just say yes to things that they don't really want to do, but they just don't want to disappoint someone in their life. You end up prioritizing someone else's happiness over yours because you have disconnected from your strategy, which is to connect with that sacral response. Should I do this? Yes or no? Three is working on things for far too long and not recognizing when you need to switch it up. This often appears as boredom. You need your you need to give yourself the flexibility to change. You don't need to stay s you know working on a project for many, many, many years. I often say about myself that I have I have about 10 years in me on any in any one career. And after 10 years, I get really bored and I need to change. And a manigan is probably like, my God, 10 years in one career, like couldn't do it, right? So just recognize that you, your natural energy flows best when you do make changes when you do when you want. And Four is skipping steps. So your natural, again, that natural way that you operate is to move very quickly and to skip steps and to get somewhere a result in an unexpected way. If you are working on something that where you are out of alignment and still try to apply this skipping step strategy, it's probably gonna create a lot of stress and a lot of mess for you because you're out of alignment. You're cutting corners from a place of your mind doing the work. You're really forcing your mind to figure out how to get to the end result. And that just doesn't work. when you are in alignment on a project or a hobby or an interest, it comes very easy for you to skip steps. You don't even have to think about it. You're just gonna get there. But often if you are trying to force it, you really create a lot of trouble and create a mess. Okay, now I want to talk about relationships. So for those of you who have a many gen in your life, here are some ideas on how to best support them. So maybe it's your child, maybe it's your partner, maybe it's your mother in law. But for a manny gen, you want to give them Options when you talk to them or when you ask them questions, give them options, not open-ended questions. So you want to frame things in yes, no, or give them like a multiple choice question. That is the same as a generator. You want to encourage them, and I'm again I'm speaking in these relationship sections. I'm speaking as if the person in your life doesn't understand human design and you do. So one way for a many gen to support them is to encourage them, remind them to say yes to things that generally excite them. If you see that, encourage them. They might be like, I really want to do this, but I can't because XYZ, right? But just remind them, like, no, you need to go after that. If that's if that's where your heart's leading you, then please go follow that. Don't expect them to stick to one interest or career, which we've mentioned already. Celebrate their pivots, do not guilt them or call them flaky because they want to change. You want to encourage them to tell you what their next plans are. Help them to understand, again, this is their strategy. Help them to understand how informing you means that you can better support them. You understanding what their decision is and why and where they're going, you can now you you understand it. So you can better support them and clear the path for them to do whatever it is they want to do. A lot of many gens feel guilty about taking things on and not finishing them. You can just remind them that they don't need to finish everything that they started, that it is okay to quit. And that is a nice segue into my last point about children. So if you have kids in your life that are many gens, you are gonna see an extremely multi-passionate child. They're gonna have a lot of energy, a lot of curious, a lot of curiosity. they don't want to be placed in a box. They don't want to be constrained in any way. They and they want you to be as excited as they are about whatever their current passion is. And these kids are going to quit. They're going to switch. And I think it's just super helpful to understand that that's their man managing personality. That's their energy coming out. You're gonna see them want to learn drawing and then go play hockey and then take a creative writing course and then you know change to track and field or whatever it may be. That is who they are. So encourage them and support them. Now, for those of you who are f managens, I've got some advice about living out there, li living out there in the wild as a managen. Here's my best advice for you. So, number one is acknowledge any conditioning around that you should stick with one thing. Just commit. Don't switch. You gotta commit to one thing. So maybe that's like we said already, a hobby, an interest or career. If it doesn't work for you, pivot, change. Go explore something else. Really celebrate these changes. change the celebrate the all the different ideas you have, all the different interests you have. You may be feeling like something is wrong with you or society certainly has made you feel like something is wrong with you. You've been told you have too many interests, you change up, you're always changing, you can't commit. That is your design at work. That is naturally how you are designed to work and operate in this world. You are not meant to walk a straight line. So do what you need to do to stay excited, not bored and motivated and really embrace that multi-passionate side of you. And on that same note, I think for those of you who are many gens and run your own business, I think it's really important that you pick a business model that allows you to make changes and keep things interesting for you. The worst business model for a many gen is something that you need to do the same thing over and over again forever and ever and ever. I have a a new dear friend who is a many gen. She runs her own business. She's in a certain type of healing and she's done it for years and is quite accomplished at it. And I asked her, and she's just introducing human design now to her to her business, to her her clients. And I asked her, like, as a manny jen, what do you do to keep your before you did human design? Because this is her new thing, this is her new pivot, but before human design, what did you do in your business to keep things interesting for you? As that Manny Jan who wants to switch and pivot and change. What did you do to keep your business interesting? And she said that she just kept running different workshops. So she would do a training on some new area in her healing. And then she would come and she would sell workshops to her audience about what she just learned. And she I think she said she's got like fifty different trainings. So in that business model, it works for her. although she's super bored and that's why she's had adding human design, but it allowed her to to continually learn new information and come back and teach it. So she was always changing. She wasn't doing the same kind of sessions every single day. And I think back to the people that we used to coach or I used to coach in my previous career. And I did hear this a lot. I coached a lot of women in wellness in specifically around like yoga and Pilates and like online yoga and Pilates. And a lot of people ran memberships. And I remember a lot of people would say, like, my God, I've got this membership, but I'm so bored. Like I just, you know, teach twice a week live and upload it to my membership. And like, is this it? Is this is this my life? And I think, you know, I wonder how many of those how many of those women were many gens who just like, I need to do something different. And and in that example, what I would now say is like a an a membership is a fine example of what a many gen could do because it gives you the flexid flexibility every single month to change it up. And I would also argue that for those people running memberships, you need to change things up to keep your members interested. Right to keep like what's coming next. So, in fact, I think a membership is a great option for a manny gen if it's done correctly and if they are building in different things that they can bring to their members every single month. Anyway, that's just an aside. So, for sleep for many manny gens, you want to get into bed before you're fully tired and do an activity that will get rid of all any excess energy. before you like allow yourself to really wind down to zero before you can actually sleep. If you share a bed with someone and you don't get rid of all that exer excess energy, it has been said that that can keep that other person awake. So you really want to like get wind down and get rid of that get rid of that energy. The next piece of advice is to really get to know that sacral energy. Because you move so quickly I think it's really important for you to slow down and listen for that sacral yes, that whisper, to s slow the mind and check in with the body to hear what it's saying to you when you're faced with a decision. Should I do this? Yes or no? This is the same as a generator. You just need to slow down, quiet the mind enough to listen for that answer. To build the trust with your body so that you're not saying yes to things that you really shouldn't be. And the last advice is to really let go of commitments that are not in alignment with you anymore. Maybe they were, but they're not right now, and they're really draining you or depleting you. We want things that are inspiring to you. So that again, this is where pivot and change is good. But do an audit of your life. What are the current commitments that are draining you? How can you end them? How can you change them? How can you hand them off? Okay, my friends, that's it for Manny Gens. In the next episode, we're gonna be talking about projectors, the fourth of the five different energy types. I am surrounded, literally surrounded by projectors, so I have lots of good examples and stories. We'll see you in the next episode. Thanks everyone.
