That is, until September twenty ninth, twenty fourteen, Shelley Duframe was arrested after an inappropriate relationship with a sixteen year old student was reported to police. Then a day later, Shelley was arrested again along with fellow teacher Rachel Respus, after an alleged passion fueled threesome with that same student surfaced. So I got a hell of a story to tell y'all today, and this incident took place in Destrahan, Louisiana. Now, Destrahan's a small town. It's around twelve thousand residents and it's located in Saint Charles Parish.

3:05 And Destrahan is really a small suburb just outside of New Orleans, JAW. It's only about eight miles from the New Orleans Airport. Destrahan High School is the premier public school in Destrahanna and it's known really for its football team. It's competed in won a ton of state titles. Now, there were two English teachers at Desterrahan High School in twenty fourteen, and that I guess you could call those our main characters if you will, in this story, one of those being Shelley duframe and the other being Rachel Respis. So to tell you a little about Shelley Dufrain. At the time of this incident in twenty fourteen, she was thirty two years old and just a striking woman, beautiful blond hair, great smile, and she taught English. Three. She was married, and she had three young children, two sons and a daughter, all under the age of eight, and she grew up rather privileged.

4:04 Her dad was a judge, and at the time of the incident I'm going to tell you about he was a senior judge in Saint Charles Parish. She was very well known. She was very well liked, not only in the city of Destraham, but throughout the parish of Saint Charles, and especially well known and liked at Destrahant High School, where she not only taught for the past ten years leading up to this incident, but she also attended and graduated from Destrahant High School in the year two thousand, some fourteen years prior to this incident. And the other main character, if you will, in this story, is a woman by the name of Rachel Respus. Now, Rachel was much younger than Shelley. She was just twenty four but really just as beautiful, and taught English to at Destrahant High School and was only in her second year of teaching. Rachel was not married, she didn't have any children, and she was also well known in the area and at the school, having also graduated from Destrahane High School. Now, during my research, I actually came across an article that said Rachel Restles was one of Shelley D.

5:18 Frame's students at Destrahan during Shelley's earlier years of teaching, but I was unable to confirm that, so take it with a grain of salt. But if that's true, that just adds a whole new layer of crazy to this case. So on Tuesday, September thirtieth, twenty fourteen, everything changes for Shelley do Frame police come to a residence with an arrest warrant and she is arrested for one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Now, according to the arrest warrant, school officials contacted police the prior Friday and reported that a student was ring to other students at the school that he was having a sexual relationship with teachers plural, y'all, with an s teachers. Now, the student had told several stories, we'll call him that for now, and in one of these stories, he said he had sex with Dufrain in early September in the town of Months, which is a very small town, not even a city, near Destrahan High School. Now, keep in mind he's telling this to other classmates. He's not telling this to teachers or to the principle or to the police. But as kids do, they talk right And me, this is a beautiful woman. You know, I was in high school once and sixteen years old once and hormones of raging and everything else at that time

6:49 of year life. And if a beautiful teacher like this was showing interest in me, it would have blew my mind. And on the other side of that, you know, igh school students they make stuff up sometimes to make themselves sound bigger than they actually are. So rumors you have to investigate and Apparently that's what the police did, and that's why Shelley do Frame was arrested. So Shelley is brought to jail at around six pm that Tuesday, and by seven pm that Tuesday, she had bonded out on a two hundred thousand dollars bond, which she actually posted ten thousand dollars cash and the rest was a property bond, so she put up a house or house or something to make the rest of that bond, which I would suspect due to the speed of that. She was only there about an hour when she was arrested and released. Probably indicates that her father, being a high ranking judge in the parish. I'm sure he knew about this. I don't have any direct knowledge of that, but maybe someone gave him a heads up, if you will, and he arranged all of this in advance. It was a quick amount of time for her to be kind of in and out of that jail.

8:07 I don't have any evidence of it, but it's just a feeling I have. Then the very next day, on Wednesday, Shelley do Frame gets rusted again, but this time Rachel Respass gets arrested also, and both are charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. Now, before I go any further, it's important to understand and grasp this. There are now two different arrests. There's two different cases. Right, one of these cases involves only Shelley do Frame and one of these cases involves both Shelley do Frame and Rachel Respass. So on that Wednesday, which would be October one of twenty fourteen, both were brought to jail. Do Frame bails out on a seven thousand dollars cash bond that night, and Restless bails out on a seven thousand dollars cash bond the following morning. Now, one of the bond stipulations was that dow Frame had to be placed on house arrest after leaving jail, so she couldn't leave the house. Once she left jail, she was stuck there until her trial.

9:26 Now, as you would imagine, total shock and sued on the community of Destrahand and everyone was talking about it. Police did say it was a free way with Doframe and resp specifically that the student and apparently very popular Destrahan High School football player was bragging about to other students, and that it was other students that informed school officials, who then informed the police. Both of these women they were facing some serious charges due to the student being sixteen years old. The legal age of consent in Louisiana is seventeen years old. And actually with those charges, if you added them all up, that's like seventeen and a half years in prison. So some serious repercussions they're facing now, according to police at the time, on September twelfth of twenty fourteen, after the team played in a high school football game. And how's this the team he played against that night. The mascot's name the Cougars. You can't make that up, y'all, the Cougars. So Duframe enticed the boy after that game to ribe with her to Rachel restless apartment for a threesome. Allegedly, the police report said that Respus was aware of the plan, and the report also

10:58 alleged that while Restless was having intercourse with the boy, do Frame began kissing Restless intimately in an effort to arouse all parties involved in that they were all completely naked. So on October third, just a few days from the arrest, as you would expect, two judges in Saint Charles Parish. They accused themselves from that case, being that Duframe's dad was a judge and both of these judges they had a close working relationship with him. That was the right thing to do, So a judge was brought in from another parish to oversee the trial aspect of this case. Now, shortly after the arrest of the two teachers, rumors start circulating regarding the existence of a video coroborating the story the student was bragging about to his friends and police they start investigating those rumors and they actually confiscate two cell phones from two different students at that school.

12:01 Now, this is a big story in a small town, right and of course it takes some time to investigate by a police. Remember, Doufrain's dad is a senior judge in that parish. So I guarantee you the police do not want to fuck this up. They know that they are going to be watched and every single thing they do, one little slip up, is going to cost them the case. So life goes on. They're investigating, and on January tenth of twenty fifteen, Rachel Respass, attorney reiterates that Respus denies sex with the students and professes her innocence In an article to The Times, picky you newspaper. That's the New Orleans newspaper, and it said. The attorney for Rachel Respis, one of the two Destrahan High School teachers accused of having group sex with a six sixteen year old student, reiterated her innocence of crime, saying cryptically that she didn't have consensual sex with that boy. Her attorney, Jeffrey Smith, would not elaborate to a reporter, saying it's up to your imagination what that means. Authorities have said. The boy, who was a student of Respus and a former student of co defendent Shelley Duffrain, told investigators he had sex with both teachers at restless apartment in Kenner. Kenner, y'all is a suburb of New Orleans as well. Both women were booked

13:33 with carnal knowledge of a juvenile, in decent behavior with a juvenile, and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. So after they booked them, they stacked charges is what they call that. They added more charges to them. Smith had proclaimed his clients innocence shortly after his arrest, and he said Friday that he stands by the statement and will fight any charges should prosecutors accept the police case. He shook his head and be musement that Respus twenty four was arrested for allegedly having sex with a now eight nearly eighteen year old who Smith described as looking like a professional football player. The boy, considered a minor under state law, has not been publicly identified. And I submit to you before I continue on with this article, that it really doesn't matter what he looks like. If he looks like a grown ass man and he's sixteen, it doesn't matter that he looks like a grown ass man. There's young ladies out there sixteen that look like they're twenty four that you know, flipped that script a little bit. That's kind of a bullshit answer. Smith said he talked with Restpus weekly and described her as a bright young woman. He said she is devastated by the arrest, but she's doing okay. His comments came after a status hearing lasting less than five minutes in a Jefferson Parish courthouse.

14:58 Smith was told that the the District Attorney's office was still revealing the case and not decided what if any charges would be filed against the client. So let me take that for you. You can get arrested and not actually tried for anything. Just because you're arrested doesn't mean you're going to court. You get arrested and then the district attorney looks over the case and they decide if they're going to bring charges. So right now, at least for this case, Rachel Rests as well as Duframe, they're kind of in limbo. The district attorney's still trying to decide if he wants to bring charges now this far along. I mean it's January tenth. They were to arrested at the end of September. I also submit to you that that is because of DW Frame's dad being a judge. I mean, that's not common that you go that long without charges being brought. And he mentioned the status hearing, and indeed that hearing did take place on March fifth of twenty fifteen, and the next day, on March six, another article ran in The Times Peaky un referencing what happened in that status hearing, and it said Rachel Respus, one of the two former Destrahant High School teachers accused of having sex with a sixteen year old must wait longer in legal limbo before she learns what's to become of her criminal case. Respus was booked October first with carnal knowledge of a juvenile in decent behavior and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. She had a status hearing

16:32 on Thursday, but Assistant DA Brian Villalobos had no new information. Respus, who was not required to appear in court, was given another date of April thirty, ath fort status hearing. Now we're into March sixth of twenty fifteen, and charges still haven't been brought from the DA. They're still investigating that case now. While the DA was trying to figure out what to do in the threesome case, if you'll remember, Shelley Dufran had some answering to do in her individual case that she was arrested for. So on April ninth of twenty fifteen, she answered for that and many other things. And so I'm going to reference the Times picking un again. They did a great job of covering the details on that, and the headline on that says Destrahan High School teacher Shelley Duframe and mints sex with student and this was April ninth of twenty fifteen. Former Destrahan High School teacher Shelley Duframe pled guilty to obscenity, admitting in court that she had sex with sixteen year old student. The plea let her and the student avoid a public trial and allows her to bypass registering as a sex offender and serving three years in prison. She must spend ninety days in an impatient mental health facility, served three years of active probation, and pay a one thousand dollars fine. If she fails to complete the court approved

18:07 mental health program by the end of August, she must report to the Saint Charles Parish Jail September first to serve any days for which she has not received credit. This from Judge Anne Simon during the plea hearing at a Hanville courthouse. Dufrain also agreed to surrender her teaching license. With the parents of her former students sitting in the front row of the courtroom. Dufrain admitted to having consensual sex with the juvenile as detailed in the carnal Knowledge law. Is it true? The judge asked duframe Yes, ma'am, she replied. Dufran left the courthouse at eleven thirty five am with her mother. She and her attorney, Dm. Williams would not comment to a reporter. The student's parents.

18:55 His mother appeared angry as she stared at Dufrain also would not speak with reporters. They were accompanied by an attorney who sat with them during the hearing. Dufrane, at, thirty two year old Monts residents, who is married and has three children, was one of two Desterrahan High School teachers arrested last fall of on charges of having sex with the same student. Their arrest touched off a flurry of gossip and speculation in Desterhand and online, particularly over the notion of women in authority positions seducing or molesting underage boys and contributing to Louisiana's reputation for inappropriate teacher student relationships. Her plea came during a status hearing in the twenty ninth Judicial District. It was accepted by the judge, the retired jurist whom the Louisiana Supreme Court appointed to handle the case. After the three local judges, including Dufran's father, stepped aside. Authority say Dufran and the male student had sex between August twenty second in September twenty seventh at a home in monts They have not specified the date of the crime or whether it happened to Doufrain's house. Her initial charge, colinal knowledge of juvenile, remains intact.

20:12 According to the plea agreement that her attorney reached with prosecutors, the District Attorney Attorney's office filed a new bill of information charging her with the additional offense of obscenity. She pleaded guilty to obscenity and simon deferred a three year prison sentence on the colonel knowledge charge. If Dufrain completes the terms of a probation for obscenity, prosecutors will dismiss the colonel knowledge charge. District Attorney Joel Chason, who was in court during the plea hearing, released a statement. He said, I want to thank my special prosecutor for her efforts in reaching a fair resolution of this case, and he goes on from there. He said, Colonel Knowledge cared a potential ten year prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender if deframe breaks the rules of her probation, he will prosecute her on that cornal knowledge offense. Chase On said the victim's parents were consulted in that they expressed their support for resolution of the case. Simon, the judge, in discussing the plea agreement, said she was advised that the usual treatment for first time offenders in Saint Charles Parish is what they are doing these play agreements.

21:30 Since prosecutors filed a carnal knowledge charge in November, Simon has presided over several status hearings. However, in recent weeks there have been rumblings behind the scenes that the plea discussions were underway. The report indicates that the women consumed alcohol, but doesn't say how much or what kind. It also doesn't indicate whether a student consumed alcohol or identify him, as he was a juvenile at the time and a sex crime victim, so they don't identify those juveniles. Investigators did say the boy had consented to sex, but because he was a minor in the general age of consent is seventeen, he technically, by the law, cannot consent to sex. And then the article goes on to say at the time of the Kenner or Ress police said they were investigating reports that someone had recorded video activity on the phone, and the results of the forensic test of a phone have never been made public. So to some all that up do frame on that first trial was found guilty, but of lesser charges.

22:40 They did a plea agreement, so they said, hey, if you plead to obscenity, you're not going to get ten years in jail and you're not going to have to register as a sex offender. That's a sweetheart deal for this case. She pretty much got out of it by just having to pay a lot of money, and of course she was under house arrest and things like that. She had to go to a mental health facility and do some things. But she got a sweetheart deal on that. So that case is over, and that was the judge's ruling. Now, all of those stipulations that he put in place, those had to be followed to the tea or she would have to serve time in jail. So on April ninth of twenty fifteen, she agrees to that play agreement and she's good to go on that case now. So pretty much the entire year of twenty fifteen, the Saint Charles Parish district attorney still could not make up his mind on whether to charge these teachers in that whole threesome incident. Now, why do you think that is? I have my thoughts, But what do you think knowing what you already know about this case? Well, on December sixteenth of twenty fifteen, every year after their arrest, both teachers are finally formally charged, all

Shelley Dwframe was charged with two counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile and Rachel Respis was charged with one count of failure to report the commission of certain felonies. And that's huge for her. It basically means the district attorney did not believe or did not have enough evidence to prosecute her regarding the story the team was telling his friends at school about having a threesome, but it does mean that Respus had direct knowledge that Shelley Duframe was having sex with the teen and did not report it. So on December twenty second of twenty fifteen, Respus goes to court on the failure to report a felony charge and she pleaded not guilty, as did do Frame. Then six months later, on May one of twenty sixteen, a very detailed civil lawsuit is filed by the parents of that teen and man is it detailed. I'm going to read you the article from the Batnerange Advocate. They did a great job of breaking down that civil suit, and it says destrahan In high school teacher Shelley duframe moved in fast. From the first day of the twenty fourteen twenty fifteen academic year. She targeted a sixteen year old boy in her English class, flirting

25:45 with him every day. When he got sick and he had to stay home, she contacted him on social media. Now, on the outside, it appeared she was trying to determine if he was feeling better, but in reality it was to establish a close personal and emotional relationship with the student. That civil suit alleged soon she was sleeping with the student. Yall ready for this more than forty times in thirty six days. Those are among these new allegations in a previously unreported lawsuit filed by the student and his parents against Dufrayne, fellow teacher Rachel Ruspis, and the Saint Charles Parish Public School system. It was filed on August eleventh and amended February twenty fifth of twenty sixteen. The suit is pending in twenty nine Judicial District Court. In the related criminal case, Dufrain admitted to having sex with the student. Police said it happened at a home in monts where Dufrain and married mother of three lived. Dufrain is also charged in depending criminal case in Jefferson Parish for having sex with the student at Restpas apartment in Kentner. Respus is charged with failing to report the crime, and both have pleaded not guilty. The lawsuit adds details, although unproven, to the criminal cases. It says Duframe treated the boy as her favorite in class, encouraging him to believe that responding to Miss Duframe's attention and advances

27:19 would impact his grades. To cement the relationship, she offered to take him home from football practices and games. Only two or three weeks into the term, The suit said Duframe kissed the student in her classroom during school hours, and then they began having sex August twenty second of twenty fourteen that continued through September twenty seventh, more than forty times. In all. Respus had learned of the improper relationship, but did not report it to authorities or try to protect the victim. The suit said, instead, she offered up her apartment in Kenner for sex after a football game, eventually joining in the act.

28:02 According to the student. Police say the teachers engage in group sex with the student at Restless apartment. Although police book with a sex crime, prosecutors did not file one against her. Both teachers were arrested in October twenty fourteen after the crimes became public. The suit said Deframe made disparaging comments about the victim to third parties on social media, causing him embarrassment in humiliation, and in that petition it actually had a section where it said that when fellow teacher Rachel Ruspis found out about the relationship, she did not turn over the coworker and in fact offered to let her use restus kinner apartment. And that was new news for me Up until that point, I thought that that threesome was kind of a spurt of the moment thing. According to this suit, anyway, supposedly Respus found out and said, hey, you can use my apartment to have sex with him, and maybe I'll join in that kind of thing.

29:07 So that suit comes out and everybody's eyeballs poke out, especially at the forty times in thirty six days. That's more than once a day. So Shelley Duframe she fires back just seven days after that suit, and she responds and accuses the team of bragging about those relations on social media and attempting to blackmail her in return for preferential treatment in better grades. She claimed the student intentionally and voluntarily posted details about the incidents on social media, including tweets and retweets on Twitter, in an attempt to raise his popularity throughout school. Dufrein also maintained the student removed his genitals from his clothing and placed them on the face of a defendant as she slept, and she didn't say if that was her or re Respuss, but you're going to find out later on. Then recorded photos and videos of the act on his cell phone. He then showed those recordings to members of the Destrahan football team. Dufrain said she intended to request the student be transferred from her English class to another class in September of twenty fourteen, at which time the student replied that she better not which to her

30:40 insinuated retaliation so, she said he made it clear that he expected favoritism, good grades, an exemption from certain class projects and assignments in return for not making certain allegations public. Finally, on April twenty fifth of twenty seventeen, nearly three years after the incident, the trial starts in Shelley Duframe's trial was up. First, the team in the case took the stand, and what he claimed is riveting, to say the least. During his testimony, he admitted to secretly recording one of the women sleeping after sex as proof to show his fellow football players, and that was Rachel Respishaw. He said the month long affair began with a Facebook message from dew Frame after the team was out sick one day in August of twenty fourteen, and quickly progressed to the student and teacher kissing in the classroom within days later. On that night was the first time that Shelley and I had intercourse, he sat in court when discussing the first time they had sex. The teen said Duframe picked the team up from his home in Destrahan after a football scrimmage. He testified that the teacher drove to an isolated location behind a Daker shop and they had sex. A

32:15 day later, she messaged the teen with the text good morning Sexy. He then said Duframe coordinated these sexual meetups using a fake Facebook profile under the name get this shall Madison, Mexicano, complete with an image of a cartoon character Speedy Gonzales as the profile image. The cover photo also included the phrase you ready for this? I love Mexican boys, a reference to the teen, so he was obviously Latino. The teen said he didn't appreciate the reference, however, since he is half Columbian and half Caucasian. The team provided in court a list of places where he met Duframe to have sex, including her house in monts inside her Honda Pilot suv, in multiple parking lots, and even in a shed at a friend's house. He said the relationship culminated with a threesome with another former Destrahan High School English teacher, Rachel Respis, at her apartment in Kenner. All three of us were in bed together, The team told the court, we all started having sex. The teen also said he recorded video of Raspus while she slept after the threesome, and admitted the

33:51 court that his genitals could be seen in the footage. It was kind of like proof, he testified, adding that he should she showed the video to some of his teammates on the high school football team. I told him about it, but they didn't believe me, so I wanted to get video proof. Defense attorneys then cross examined the team, and, in a kind of a ballsy move in my opinion, they accused the team of committing a crime himself by recording himself touching Raspus as she slept and later showing that video to his teammates, eh kind of victim blaming there. They also accused the teen of not being truthful about his relationship with Deframe, questioning the exact date of their sexual relationship and arguing that the dates and locations provided to authorities were not correct. Defense attorneys claimed that the thresome didn't even occur because the team told authorities he could not get an erection, acclaim. The team denied. Investigators were unable to recover the video of Raspus sleeping because the teen admitted to deleting it, as well as other photos and text messages. He did so, according to the defense, because he knew what he was doing was illegal.

35:10 You know it's a crime to video someone without the permission, they said. The defense then hammered the team on the fact that he threatened Duframe at any moment, I can expose this and you can go to jail and you'll lose your life. As you know it that the defense claimed. The teen said, and the lead video of Respus, according to the defense, was an act of revenge for a problem he had in her class a year earlier. Regarding the night of the alleged three, some of the teen said he remembers do Frame and Respae were kissing, they had given each other oral sex, and then I proceeded to have sex with Shelley and that was it now.

36:00 Saint Charles Parish Deputy Lieutenant Clint Patterson also testified, and he said that the team took investigators to two locations in Saint Charles Parish right after the last incident occurred, which was on the twenty seventh, only three days before the arrest of do Frame. He took the lieutenant to two locations where the lieutenant found gold Trojan condoms at both the rappers. He also claimed that Shelley offered to buy him a peal to help him get an erection while she was getting cigarettes. So after a two day trial, the verdict came in and what do y'all think? What do you think happened? Guilty or not guilty? Well, here's that article from the Baton Rouge. Advocate Shelley do Frame not guilty in the Destrahan teacher sex trial. A judge on April twenty sixth, twenty seventeen found former Destrahan High School teacher Shelley Duframe not guilty of allegation she had sex with her sixteen year old English student on two occasions in Jefferson Parish.

37:17 Judge Danielle Taylor of the twenty fourth Judicial District found du Frame not guilty of two counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, citing lack of investigation by Jefferson Parish authorities and an untrustworthy main witness the team at the center of the case. While Taylor felt it was likely that something had occurred, prosecutors did not prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. I do not believe that the threshold has been met by the evidence presented in this court, she said, later, noting the teen's braggadacious nature and his propensity to lie created reasonable doubt.

38:01 Dufray had waived a right to a jury trial, so Taylor heard the case. Prosecutors have accused Duframe of bringing the student to Jefferson Parish for a pair of encounters, part of a month long sexual relationship that she carried out mostly in Saint Charles Parish during the late summer of twenty fourteen. Duframe pleaded guilty September one of twenty fifteen in Saint Charles Parish to a reduced charge of obscenity and admitting to having sex with the team there. A judge sentenced her to a deferred three year prison term, three years of probation, and a one thousand dollars fine. Jim Williams, Duframe's defense attorney, said he felt Taylor made the correct decision. The entire prosecution was based upon things that happened in Saint Charles Parish that she's already pleted guilty to and admitted to. He said, they just didn't have a case here in Jailjefferson Parish. Kim McElwee, Dufraan's defense attorney and a former prosecutor, took the case pro bono because she said she believed it should not have come to court in Jefferson Parish. Yes, she's not innocent, McElwee said of Duframe, she did these things.

39:17 She had an improper relationship. She broke the law and she should be punished. But there's a difference between innocent and not guilty. They have to prove their case and they didn't come close. As a mother, Taylor said she understood the anguish of the victim's family. She too found Dufrain's behavior reprehensible, referring to the omissions of sex in Saint Charles Parish. She betrayed a very basic public trust as a schoolteacher. The judge should of Duframe. The violation caused public outrage, but the court, Taylor said, cannot be swayed by the emotion of the case and must rule based on the law.
