Fatal Jealousy: The Murders of Spencer & Monique Tepe

0:20 Hey everyone, and welcome back to Exposed, Scandalous Files of the Elite. I'm your host, Jim Chapman, and I have got a story for you today. Now. What I'm bringing you today was requested by a listener last week, and it's a little different than what I would typically cover on Exposed. Typically, these cases that I bring you usually have everything from the initial investigation to the conviction. This one is so new, in fact, that all we've got is an arrest in this case, it's a very fluid case. And when you have cases that are this new, and this is why I typically don't cover them. And the reason for that is the details sometimes change. So what I've done here is I went with details that were verified by several different sources. Just be aware some of these details can change. It always happens in these cases.

1:17 The police they don't show all their cards a lot of times, and sometimes things come out that we didn't know prior to the investigation. So I just want to keep you aware of that, and I'll give you all the details as I know them now. I will say that I've been in contact with two separate sources that are very close to this case. I'm not going to tell you who the people are, but very reliable sources in the area, and they have given me some information not readily available out there. I'm not going to reveal who these sources are, and I'm not going to tell you anything that is going to mess up this investigation in any way, shape or form. I'm just not going to report anything I think may mess the case up, whether I know it or not. But we're gonna get into it, and I'm gonna take you back to just a couple of weeks ago, December thirtieth of twenty twenty five, and a thirty seven year old dentist by the name of doctor Spencer Teppi. This dentist does not show up for work at his dental practice. It's in Athens, Ohio.

2:19 The dental practice is called Athens Dental Depot. Now, I'm not exactly sure when doctor Spencer shows up for work typically, but it looks like from the things I have read and come across, six thirty ish in the morning he's typically at work. However, on this day he does not show up. He never shows up, and this is very out of character for this guy. Raised a lot of red flags as a matter of fact, Spencer is pretty known for his reliability. So time passes and what do you do. You pick up the phone, maybe you try to call Spencer and you say, hey, why are you not at work? You didn't call, you didn't show His employees do all that. They even reach out to his wife.

3:07 No answer as well. So they reach out to the owner of the company, who incidentally lives in a totally different place. He actually lives in Florida. They reach out to the owner of Athens Dental Depot and they let him know what's going on, and that Spencer didn't show up and this isn't like Spencer, and they're very worried, and not a ton of time has passed. It's only a couple of hours. But for a guy that is, you know, you could set your watch to how reliable he is. This raises a ton of red flags. So the staff calls the owner, and the owner then in turn calls the police and makes a request for a welfare check at the residence.

3:50 Thinks I'd like to ask for a wellness check. On an individual at their home. It's individual Spencer, mornsmoothing and still to work this morning, and we cannot get a hold of him or his family didn't self to work, correct, Okay, do you have medical problems or go? And he's been reliable and we cannot get in touch with him, his wife, his family, anybody that lives in that house. Okay they. And in Florida, I own the business. I wasn't informed by my employees that he was not at work and he wanted the offer.

4:33 Have you guys everceived anything else like. Calls about him or like a car accident or anything like that. Now, sometimes people just don't self the work. I mean by they said that, allow, I just know that he is the most like he has always done time and he exact us if there's any issues, however, and. He uh and this you know house. The thing's like, we're very very concerned. And this is very out of character and we can't get good of his way, which has come to mosery good. Now, for those I'm familiar with what a welfare check is just means the police are gonna go to his residence. They're gonna knock on the door, make sure he's okay.

5:16 And these things happen all the time. In ninety nine percent of the people when folks call to make a welfare check. There's no emergency. People are fine, maybe they're for slept whatever, but nothing out of order. So I'm sure, and I'm just speculating here, but I'm sure the police got this request for a welfare check and it didn't raise like a ton of red flags. And you got to keep in mind, this guy's thirty seven years old. He's not seventy years old. So it's not a situation where maybe there's an Alzheimer's type situation that you see with these older folks and you're doing welfare checks. This is a young guy. No worries, right, police are gonna go over there. Likely he's gonna be fine. So that's what the police officer does. At around nine fifty that morning, the officer arrives, He knocks on the door, no answer.

6:04 He knocks on the door again, same thing, no answer. He goes around to the backyard, doesn't see any uh, screens off of the windows or anything that would indicate somebody tried to break in the doors. All seemed secure. He did everything he could, it appears, to make sure that nothing was awry, and all that is on body camp, so we know that took place. So after about three to five minutes. That officer leaves, but there was a problem. He knocked on the wrong door. He went to the wrong house. And look, that's not thurn shade on this police officer. Was a simple mistake. These things happen. About thirty minutes later, a concerned friend actually goes over to the house himself. The cracked house. Okay, wouldn't be Murency there?

6:52 Please your medical. Maybe both, I guess, I don't know. He had knocks on the front door and back a multiple of times and there was no answer. Yeah, no answer. I think your kids inside, And. I say, I think I heard one yell. But if we can't get in at this point, I don't know if I neither break. The go in or just get in the house or what were you out there when a pint is out there? I wasn't. I just got here about fine with it. Yeah, okay, all right, we'll wean't spending night out here. Just speculating, but I would imagine police were like, oh shit, we went to the wrong house. So they had back over there. And while that's going on, another friend that also calls police, very concerned about Spencer.

7:37 And report to work. We hadn't been able to get ahold of him for three hours. We are on site and we can hear okay I wanted somebody there, okay i'. And that's how reliable this guy was and how much he was loved. He goes missing for just a few hours and all these friends are looking for him. Man, I hope that my friends would do that if I was listen for just a couple of hours. But to me, it really speaks to this guy's character. So back to it. Police are on the way there for a second time, and a friend does manage. And there's a little bit of debate here because some people say this happened, some people say it didn't happen exactly like this. I'm going to give you the story as I was told. Take it with a grain of salt. What I was told was a friend does manage to gain access to the home and he sees doctor Spencer's body lying by the bed, and the friend calls police to let him know.

8:41 Tell you went on what's location? Smir Mrgentine fourteen living Okay, fourteen eleven or force. We've got several calls on that. What's changed since the last person I talked to? Here's a body. There's a body. Here's a body inside. Okay, hold on one checknd okay, let me get you on the line and with thematic okay, say on the line. Does the body or gunn wasn't uh be transformed? We just took the wall the ship. We just came here, and he appears that okay, bloodles good than his blood.

9:26 They they closer to that, Okay, they can tell he's opposite up or you think anything. Yet like kind of like like I don't like you know, because it does they look. Like I get away here. Okay, all right, I understand. Okay. And then who was the last time somebody is a phone? Uh? Like yes, yesterday? It was yesterday. Okay. How old are they gone? Three kind of night? Did I get druggies or anything like that? No? No, no, no, okay, all right, because that's a really young way. So police get there and they indeed discover the bodies of both thirty seven year old doctor Spencer and his thirty nine year old wife, Monique, multiple shots fired into the deceased inside of their home. Now, they do also find both children, a one year old and a four year old, and they're shaken, but physically they're unharmed. And incidentally, y'all, I don't know if I've said this yet, but the home is located in Columbus, Ohio. Just a standard neighborhood, not a neighborhood that I would picture when I think of a dentist, you would think of a much nicer neighborhood.

10:42 Is cute, it's a it's a clean house, looks very nice, but it's kind of kind of looks like the downtown part of Columbus, not the neighborhood I was expecting. I'll just put it that way. Now. As with any investigation, police bust out the crime scene tape, right, and they secure that scene, and they interview any and all possible witnesses in the area, in this case, those friends that responded, and they wait for detectives to arrive. So detectives arrive and they start doing what detectives do. They start looking around taking note of the scene. One of the things they noticed was there was no signs of forced entry. And to a detective, they're going to think, maybe this person knew the person that was coming to the door and did this, or maybe they left their door unlocked. We don't know yet, but we're gonna note it, and they quickly determined this was not a situation of a murder suicide, and that one, in hindsight, would be pretty easy to figure out if you didn't have a gun in the house, or if you had a gun in the house, but it's not lying right next to one of those bodies, it's going to be pretty easy to figure out it wasn't a murder suicide situation. Police are confident that they have a double homicide on their hands, and they start looking for motive. And the way they work these cases, y'all, is from the inside out, so everybody outside of the detectives or a suspect. Normally, if it's a wife that's found killed in the house like

12:14 that and the husband is still alive, that's going to be your first suspect and you work your way out of that circle from there. But in this case, both were killed. So police start interviewing family members, Hey, do you know anyone that might have been angry with Monique or angry with doctor Spencer. And at this point in the investigation, they had also ruled out robbery because nothing was missing from the home that police were aware of at that point, so they work that circle and they start interviewing family members trying to discover who these people were, what was their lifestyle, like, how did they live? And so let's cover quickly who they were, and we're going to start with doctor Spencer. So doctor Spencer was born in nineteen eighty eight in Cincinnati, Ohio, and he actually grew up in what is done as the Mason Area of Ohio, and that's a northern suburb of Cincinnati. And growing up he had what people described as a close knit family. Now throughout his childhood, in his teenage years, he would excel both in school and sports, particularly soccer and golf. Loved those. Friends would say that he loved to compete in just about anything throughout his life. So in two thousand and seven, he enrolled at the Ohio State University in Columbus, and he would earn a bachelor's

13:46 in biology and from there he would continue his education at the Ohio State University in the College of Dentistry. He would earn his doctorate in dental surgery in twenty seven. So after graduation, he begins his career professionally. Now, initially he worked at what's known as Stone Creek dental care that's in Ashland, Ohio, and it was there that doctor Spencer just got this well earned reputation for being very reliable, very passionate, and very committed to serving other people. And he would get involved with the Big Brother Big Sisters program in Ohio. That was very important and it was very important for him to kind of pass it down and mentor young people. So as his professional life flourished, he would also meet and subsequently marry who he considered the love of his life, Monique, and that was in December of twenty twenty. Now I have heard some people say it's January of twenty twenty one when they got married, and I've had some people say December of twenty twenty.

14:57 I'm going with December of twenty twenty. It could be January of twenty twenty one, but it really doesn't matter. It's within a month. It has no bearing on this story, but important dimension. So with all of this information and looking into the background of doctor Spencer, as you can see, police they're struggling to find a reason why anybody will want to kill this guy. So what did detectives do. They start looking into his wife, Monique's background and a little about Monique. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and at the young age of one in nineteen eighty seven, she and her family would relocate to Worthington, Ohio, which is a suburb of Columbus. And she was raised in a very supportive household and they encouraged all of her interest in growing up. Throughout her childhood and teenage years, she would develop a range of hobbies and athletic pursuit.

16:00 She also loved to play soccer. She played it competitively. She was an avid runner. She had a passion for horses, and she was known as a very enthusiastic reader of books. So she graduates from high school. She attends Ohio State University and she earns her bachelor's degree in human ecology with a focus on education. And that's in twenty eleven. So after completing her bachelor's degree, she starts working at a local daycare in the Columbus area. And she's got time, right, She's figuring out her life. She's still young, she's not in a hurry, really wanting to take in all that life offers. And she also starts working on a master's degree in early childhood education at Ohio State. During this time, and at the age of twenty eight, she gets married to a guy by the name of Michael David McKee, which more on that later. Because with the introduction of Michael David McKee to this story, police have now discovered that she had an ex husband, And while on its face it doesn't necessarily mean just because you have an ex husband and you end up dead that that's the person that did it, it's certainly something that police want to follow up on now. In the meantime, in this investigation,

17:30 police develop what's done as a preliminary timeline and they release some details to the public. So they establish that the murders took place between a window of two o'clock am and five o'clock AM on December thirtieth, and that's the same day that doctor Spencer did not show up for work. And they also released the fact that the autopsies confirmed that both doctor Spencer and Monique were shot with a nine millionlimeter handgun. Confirming that those three nine milimeters bullet casings they found at the scene were from those murders may seem like common sense, but they just get in confirmation there. They also confirmed though it had already been reported that there were no signs of fourth century.

18:20 They asked the public to check their ring cameras, et cetera for any signs of someone moving about the area in that given timeframe, and it didn't take long. They released a tip line, and over one hundred tips pour in in just the first day from the public. And look, anytime you set up a tip line, you're gonna get valuable tips, and you're gonna get absolutely ridiculous tips that have nothing to do with the case. But the fact of the matter is you have to follow up on each and every single tip, regardless because you don't know which one is actually going to lead to the perpetrator or perpetrators involved. Now, in this case, several of those tips did feature footage of an individual during that timeframe in that same area, and I'll post pictures of that footage and maybe a video of that footage that was released from police onto the Patreon page. But unfortunately, a lot of this footage of a man walking, at least what they've released, it's almost like he was aware that there were cameras around, because he kept his head down the whole time, and he did a really good job of concealing himself at least during the walking portion of the video footage that they released. Doesn't mean they don't have other footage showing his face, but it wasn't anything they released to the public. Also, around this same time,

19:53 there were a lot of rumors swirling around regarding what was this couple's relationship. Right when you hear of a double homicide, or really, when you hear of two people, a husband and wife, and they're found at a residence dead, a lot of people that verse assumption is it's a murder suicide type situation, And although police had already ruled that out, they still wanted to look into this couple's relationship and make sure that there wasn't a bunch of issues out there. Now, it came out in the public, as a matter of fact, it was released the nine one one call that had been placed back in April twenty twenty five from that resident. And I want to play that for you and then I'm going to tell you what it all meant. So first, here's that nine on one call.

20:43 Hey, there's name one one. He's got a hang up call? Is everything? Okay? Yeah, I'm sorry, I'm a cage stay sure, Yeah, I'm okay. Sorry, okay, Well it sounds like you're crying. Do you need poleaset parameetics or anything? No, no, no, I'm okay. I'm just emotional and okay, I don't even well, can I ask what had you call a name one one in the first place? Look? Are you having an argument? But I'm okay, I promised. Did anything ever get physical? You know you guys are just arguing. Nobody hit each other?

21:27 Yes, hey, man, well I have the information here, I can know ahead and tell the officers the council hitting everbody your address there, if we can live in the forest, tell us back. Okay, I'm sorry. So initially, when what you heard gets released, people think, oh shit, doctor Spencer. He was abusing this lady and she called based on this abuse, and so it's highly possible that he may have killed during one of these abusive altercations. But here's the thing with that nine one one call, and this has been confirmed by several family members in Monique's family, and that is that it is not Monique's voice on that nine one one call. It's not her from what I understand from what's been reported.

22:22 And it's very important to mention. Police have verified this is not her voice. But from what's been reported, they had a party at their house. They had several house guests over. One of them had a little bit too much to drink, apparently was having some sort of mental health episode, and that's where the nine one one call was derived from according to reports. Not much outside of that. But what is important to this case is it was not Monique, and everybody's confirmed and cooperated that. So now that I brought that up, before I go any further in this investigation, I mentioned that people were questioning that relationship just slightly when they heard that nine on one call.

23:08 So I want to give you a little insight into the relationship between doctor Spencer and his wife, how they met, et cetera. And I need to say first, from all reports, all accounts, they had a beautiful, strong, deeply happy relationship from the time that they met until the time they were murdered. And they actually met online. Now it's not clear if they met through a dating app or if they met on Facebook, but they definitely met online or on the internet. Somehow, they go out on a date and the connection grew really quickly from there into a solid foundation built on love, respect, and everybody that knew them said that they shared kind of a goofy sense of humor as well, just a very silly, loving couple, and their bond would deepen really fast after meeting. As I said, they were both very outgoing, they were both very social, and this would lead to them getting married either in December of twenty twenty or January of twenty twenty one. And it was a small private ceremony and it was actually held from what I understand, in the same home that they were tragically killed in. Now together they welcomed two children, a daughter who was four at the time of their death and a son who was one at the time of their death, and they also shared a golden doodle dog which incidentally the dog was

24:38 also unharmed. Now they've been described as just amazing parents by all accounts, a very nurturing environment. Monique would be a stay at home mom as her husband, doctor Spencer, built up his dental practice just known as a consummate professional dentist. So life was great for these people prior to this occurring. They've been married for nearly if not five years, and forever to go, right, so police are still gathering tips and they get to the stage in which they start looking into the ex husband of Monique. Remember I mentioned him, what was his relationship prior to the divorce with Monique, etc. And here's what they discover.

25:25 Michael David McKee Now he's currently thirty nine. He was born in Ohio and he was raised in Zanesville. And Zanesville is a small city on the east side of Columbus, Ohio, and Michael at a very young age was recognized in the Zanesville area, especially academically in the first grade. He would show a lot of brain power, if you will. He would make the paper a lot for essays and stuff like that. People that were in that circle kind of knew this kid's pretty smart, even at that young stage. A lot. At the age of thirteen, he would show a lot of promise and interest specifically in the science field, especially in the way of biology, and he would win numerous awards. They had a science day at Ohio State University, and even at that young age, he would win that entire science day there, which was a big deal. At the age of fourteen, he would even win the city spelling Bee by spelling the word siege correctly as his final answer. And tell me, if I don't do my research out there, how many people could tell you that.

26:36 Not only can they tell you he won the spelling bee, but what word he spelled. Now he would move on to high school and he would attend a private Catholic high school in the Zanesville area, and it was during that time he would just continue to shine academically and also athletically. He would spend about three years on the varsity football team and he would actually make honorable mention All State in football for the state of Ohio. That's a big deal. A lot of big boys in Ohio, a lot of talent, and he was among the best. Now. In addition to that, he would also graduate fifth in his class in that private Catholic school. He would be named a National Merit Scholar, He would be selected as Biology Student of the Year. He would become a member of the National Honor Society. The dude was smart, there was no doubt about it. He moves on to the Ohio State University and he earns his degree and from there he is accepted into the Ohio State University College of Medicine. He graduates with his MD in twenty fourteen and he becomes a vascular surgeon. And let's face it, you got to be freaking smart to be a vascular surgeon. Now, I want to mention something and I'm going to go forward a little bit on this, but it's an important to mention, and that is that Michael McKee as of today thirty nine years old. We're going to get into

28:08 where he's at currently as of this day, but it's important to mention he remains not board certified in his specialty. Now that's according to records from the American Board of Surgery where they have him listed quote in the examination process. This status doesn't inherently question whether he was smart. We're not questioning his intelligence. It doesn't even question his skill or his overall qualifications. A lot of surgeons fell the written or oral bored exams on their first or even their second try, and he may just be a bad test taker. One of my best friends is a microbiologist and one of the smartest people I know, really, in my opinion, one of the smartest people that exist. The guy is a genius, but he's horrible at standardized test.

29:04 I actually placed as high as he did on the act in high school. But that sucker smart. He just for whatever reason when it comes to sitting down and taking a standardized test, I don't know what it is, but he just doesn't perform. Well, maybe this guy is the same way. I don't know, but it's important to mention. The American Board of Surgery, they typically allow up to seven years of post training to achieve that full certification. Now by one's late thirties, like Michael McKee is now after completing residency fellowship, usually you're settling into a hospital based career. In his case, most surgeons on a standard track by that time in life, they've already passed and obtained their certification. And the reason I bring this up is prolonged delays like this can sometimes indicate some underlying challenge Jez, and they can put a lot of pressure on you, to say the least, and that's important. I don't know if it plays a role in this case, but it's certainly important to mention. So keep that in your back pocket and we'll move on. And I left off with him graduating from medical school and then in twenty fifteen he gets married to Monique. Now at the time, they were both twenty eight years old, and it would stand out to me heavily their length of time in which they were married. They actually separated after only seven

30:35 months of marriage. And it's important to mention that shortly after they got married, they moved to Virginia. McKee was pursuing his general surgery residency at Virginia Tech. And who knows, maybe his wife got homesick, maybe she didn't want to move, and maybe they thought about it a lot, whatever, decided to go their separate ways. And then a lot has come out out now some of her family has come out and said that he was very verbally abusive to her. I have not heard anything or see anything about physical abuse yet, but no matter what, what we do know is that after seven months they separate. Now, she didn't file for divorce until May of twenty seventeen. That's when the divorce was filed. They actually separated in March of twenty sixteen, and it was pretty quick from the time of the filing to the time that divorce became final, which was in June of twenty seventeen, just a month later.

31:39 So they separate after seven months. About a year later, in May of twenty seventeen, they actually she actually files for divorce and then a month after that it becomes final. Because there was such a time frame, so long of a timeframe they have been separated, so at least on paper, it seems like the marriage was short lived, and it is listed in the papers for the divorce that it was amicable, they both wanted the divorce. It was as a matter of fact, they were listed as incompatible. And most people at this time they're going to chalk that up to the fact that maybe Monique wanted to stay home in Ohio and he didn't. I don't know, have no direct knowledge. Now, as I said, there's nothing in the history to indicate domestic issues that I've come across, and I have seen some people report to some mutual restraining orders. But it's important to mention that in the state of Ohio mutual restraining orders they're part of the process of Ohio divorces. Some Ohio divorces, in order to prevent interference in the proceedings, they require mutual restraining orders.

32:51 It doesn't necessarily mean there was some sort of abuse or major conflict that was occurring, So that's important to mention. Now, a couple of things would happen in Michael David McKee's life that are important to mention. And I'm gonna take you back to twenty twenty four and a lawsuit gets filed against doctor Michael McKee. Now, in this lawsuit, it is a civil medical malpractice lawsuit that was filed in the District Court of Nevada, and it's stem from an incident that occurred on July fifth of twenty twenty three at the Las Vegas Surgical Associate Center where McKee previously practiced as a vascular surgeon. And to give you kind of the cliff notes on this one, a plaintiff alleged negligence during a laser treatment procedure that she was having on her vericos veins. Now, the procedure itself was not performed by doctor McKee. It was performed by a PA, a physician's assistant who was under his supervision as well as another physician's supervision. Now, the complaint alleged that under his supervision, along with that other doctor, a catheter actually fractured or was sheared inside the body of this planeiff.

34:16 And that catheter inside of the body left was a nearly nine inch portion. It's actually listed as an eight point six inch portion of the catheter embedded inside of the body out. Now, due to the plain of ending up having to go to the hospital via ambulance, et cetera, and having to have surgery to remove that fragment, she filed a lawsuit. And obviously, when things like this happened, rightfully so the planet suits for damages in this case in excess of fifty thousand dollars. Now very important to mention right here, the original complaint in the original suit, which was filed in twenty twenty four, did not include doctor McKee, but there was another amended lawsuit filed on September twenty ninth of twenty twenty five that did include Michael McKee. And the backstory on that is allegedly, when Michael was added to the lawsuit, he had to be served papers. Right well, the attorney for the person that added him to the lawsuit said or has accused him of basically trying to run. He said that McKee would list home addresses that were nonexistent. Furthermore, he would give them contact numbers that were to fax machines and things

35:48 of that nature. Regardless, they just couldn't locate this guy to officially serve him with papers, and in their mind it was intentional. So eventually they go to a judge. This is in October of twenty twenty five, and this attorney tells the judge he's hiding, he's running from us. He won't give us the correct information on how to contact him, or his address or anything. And the judge basically says, well, I'll fix that. I'm going to require an order just to post it in the paper, in the newspaper, and that's going to be the legal avenue of him officially being served, and said, that's what they did.

36:30 They rent it in the paper, and that's kind of a rare thing. Usually you have to serve those papers in person. But worth mentioning, and it did happen in this case. Now, why is that important? Why does that even matter? Well, that was just a few months ago, and if anything else to me, it could indicate maybe the pressure that this vascular surgeon was under. Not only has he not passed his board yet and he's getting I mean, this dude's thirty nine. Now not only has he not done that, but he's also got a lawsuit pending and he's running from that, his reputation is getting gruned. And look in the medical industry. My wife has been in the medical industry now twenty almost twenty seven years.

37:16 Your reputation is everything in that field, and his at this point in time is taking a hit, to say the least. Now, speaking of that, and speaking of his reputation, I did take a look at his profile ratings on some sites you can actually write doctors online that you see, et cetera. And I find it interesting that his feedback was kind of mixed. There were only five reviews and he had two point six stars, and there were comments ranging from excellent surgeon to critical comments like one calling him a quote desperate doctor. And there were no records that at least I could find where he had any disciplinary actions outside of the lawsuit that I just mentioned. Now, why did I spend so much time talking about Monique's ex husband, Well, that's because on January tenth, police arrest Michael McKee in the fatal shooting of Monique and Spencer.

38:25 And according to police, as I told you, they were able to identify the suspect via ring camera footage from the area and although you couldn't make out a face, in the ring camera footage, they were able to follow that individual to a vehicle and that vehicle was linked to Michael McKee. And let me say this regarding the time of death, because he was linked to the vehicle and the vehicle was in that window of the time in which they believed that this couple was shot and killed. And it's important to explain something as far as time of death because some people don't understand how this can be determined by a corner. And not to get too scientific here for you, but it's interesting. And as a matter of fact, many of you know, I was co host of another podcast for many years with a retired homicide detective and this topic came up often. And one of the things whaty Everton would explain to me is that a lot of it had to do with the eyes of the deceased, specifically the cornea, because the cornea will actually become cloudy over time. Now, typically two hours after death, that's when you're going to see that clouding start and it'll get progressively hazy over time. So within the first twenty four hours that's very useful. Now, after that the cornea cloudiness is not as useful because once

39:59 those eyes cloud to the point that they're not gonna cloud anymore, usually that takes between twelve and twenty four hours. It's hard to determine. Now. Also around the eye lids, your lids will actually go through a brinish discoloration process and that will get darker and darker as time goes along, and it's actually known as trucking. And there are some other factors involved that you can use to determine time of death. The quicker you get there after the death, the easier obviously it is to determine. And it appears police arrived within a six hour window of this killing, so as far as death determination time frame wise, was on their side. Now, there's also a process called lividity, and that also occurs after death, where because blood is not pumping through your body through your heart anymore, it starts to pull towards the lower part of your body.

41:02 That's what causes the purplish color that you will see post mortem. Now, the longer you've been deceased, the more purplish color will show up. And lividity is extremely telling when someone has not been deceased very long, because it takes about thirty minutes for lividity to start, but really about two hours before. It's just obvious. So if someone's only been deceased fifteen minutes, they're not going to have any signs of lividity. So at that point you can determine this person just died like fifteen minutes ago. Same thing if you were very obviously purple. That tells someone it's been at least two hours. And that's where checking the cornea would come into play. And there's other ways as well, I'm sure to determine that. But there's two ways you can use to quickly determine and establish a time of death. So back to the story. Police follow that CCTV, those security cameras and they see this guy getting into a vehicle, and believe it or not, that vehicle is tracked down in Rockford, Illinois, driven by Michael McKee, along with evidence, etc. And it was actually the ATF that was able to locate that vehicle. Michael McKee gets arrested on charges and shortly after that arrest, those charges

42:33 get upgraded to premeditated aggravated murder. And that's important because aggravated murder comes with the possibility of the death penalty, and this occurred on January twelfth. Also on January twelfth, he appeared in an Illinois court. He waived his extradition hearing, and he pleaded not guilty to the charges, which always happens in these arraignments because you've got nothing to lose, right, especially in a death penalty case, You're always going to plead not guilty and then try to work out a deal. Now, as of this recording, he hasn't been extradited yet. There are plans to extradite him, and he'll probably be extradited shortly after this podcast drops, if not before, But police, at this point, at least publicly, they haven't released a motive, and a motive is important, y'all. You don't have to have motive. Sometimes people just kill to kill. But with this guy's history, his status in the professional world, it would just seem strange that he would kill just to kill.

43:40 Not saying it couldn't happen, but I feel like there's a motive somewhere and the police, just if not released yet, and they're going to start keeping things very close to their chest. A lot of things are going to clam up from here on out because they don't want to mess up the case for the defense very soon. Similar to the Brian Coburger case. Remember, once he was arrested, hell before he was arrested, even but once he was arrested, you didn't hear shit until the trial. It's gonna be a similar situation here. Now in the public realm. People are going to speculate about motive, and some are saying maybe it was jealous because he was only able to stay with Monique and be married to her for seven months and she never seemed to be happy with him, and then she marries this guy and they're together five years.

44:33 I got two kids, seem to have this beautiful wife, and he didn't have that. I don't know, nobody really knows that I'm aware of, but I guarantee you if there's a clear motive, it's going to come out. Something caused him to do this. Now, upon his arrest, the family of doctor Spencer and Monique they did release a statement. It's a very short statement, very to the point, but I want to read that statement to you quickly. The statement reads, today's arrest represents an important factor toward justice for Monique and Spencer. Nothing can undo the devastating loss of two lives taken far too soon. But we are grateful to the City of Columbus Police Department, it's investigators, and assisting law enforcement community whose tireless efforts help to capture the person involved. We thank the community for the continued support, prayers, and compassion shown throughout this tragedy. As the case proceeds, we trust the justice system to hold the person responsible fully accountable. Monique and Spencer remain at the center of our hearts and we carry forward their love as we surround and protect the two children that they leave behind. We will continue to honor their lives and their light that they brought into this world. And that is the statement from the family. So there you have that.

45:54 Now. Police did have a press conference on Wednesday of this past we and that would be Wednesday, January fourteenth. They didn't divulge a whole lot, which I really didn't expect them to, but a few things that we did learn at this press conference or that when McKee was arrested, he was arrested near his place of employment in Illinois by the ATF, as I'm mentioned, and that he did have several weapons, including the gun that were used in the crime. Now, I'm going to cover two things for you quickly. First, the gun that was using the crime was found on what police described as his property. I don't know if that means his house or if it means the car. They didn't specify, but they for sure found the gun. And how do they know that. Let me cover it for you real quick. They performed a ballistics test on that weapon. Now, how does that work? Well, remember those bullet casings that they found at the crime scene, the three nine milimeter casings. So when a bullet is fired from a weapon, striations are formed on that bullet casing.

47:04 And think of these striations, y'all, as microscopic scratches, which is why in some cases, when you hear about a murder, the assailant will actually pick up the bullet casings and get rid of those later. Why do they do that because striations will differ from gun to gun. No two guns on Earth will create the exact same striations on a bullet. So this information with the striations when they find these bullet cases, that's loaded into a system called NIBI in which is think of it like a computer program slash network that logs all this information. When police get the weapon that they believed was used in these murders, they take it and they fire it, and then they compare those striations on what they just fired on the bullet casings to the original bullet casings found on the scenes.

48:05 They load that into the system and boom, we have a match, similar to like matching fingerprints, etc. So that's how they know that they have the same gun that was used in these murders. Now, they also said the murders were targeted, which to me is obvious. It's not like this guy just so happened to stumble on his ex wife's house when he was in the process of killing people. He knew he was going there. Now, I'm just speculating here, but it just seems to me that there would have been some sort of lead up to this. I just can't imagine this guy, after ten years post divorce, would just pop up and kill his ex wife and her husband after zero contact over that time period. That could have happened, certainly could have, but it would be so far out of the norm it would just shock me.

48:56 I've had some people ask about the children. The children are with family. Thank god they were not injured in this. I don't know what they saw, didn't see, et cetera. But thank god, it appears that they're okay and not injured. Of course, mentally, I'm sure they're injured, but physically no injuries to the children. And I want to dress a couple of things regarding questions and answers I've seen kind of floating around the internet, and this is where it can be dangerous to kind of hypothesize about things or take the word of people that are not super close to this case. And one is in relation to access to this house and how the guy got in, and there's a lot of rumors swelling around. Some people have asked me, is it possible he picked the lock? The quick answer is it's possible, but I would say highly improbable. Now, there's nowhere in this guy's history that anybody's reported where he would have any sort of locksmith training. I've seen the actual door lock from this particular house. It's one of those where you can punch a code in to get in and then it has like a dead bolt underneath it. Those are very hard to pick. Also saw a situation where someone said a magnet can open it.

50:16 Pretty quickly bullshit. I am sure there's someone out there that's a phenomenal crook who knows how to use a magnet to do that, But you got to be someone experienced in the game, if you know what I mean, an experienced person who robs people a lot and knows how to use those locks. I would call bullshit that this guy did that. I also had a question regarding the alarm and did they have an alarm system. From my understanding, they did have an alarm system. I haven't confirmed that, but that's what I've heard from a couple of sources. Here's the thing. It was reported that they were having possibly internet problems. That makes no difference to an alarm set system. An alarm system is gonna go off whether your internet's on or off. Okay, that's first of all, your alarm system is not tied into your internet.

51:09 Your alert to the police is tied into your internet. So if someone breaks in your home and your alarm goes off, the police may not know it's going off because your internet is out, but it's not gonna stop your alarm from going off. As a matter of fact, if your electricity completely goes out, your alarm will still go off until your battery runs out on your alarm. Every alarm system has a battery that usually it's like an I don't know, an hour or so that you could have no electricity, and that battery is still charged. So they certainly had electricity. No one's saying the electricity was out that night. The internet being out would have absolutely nothing to do with the alarm. So I'm gonna give you my hypothesis here, just a guess one. Maybe they didn't have their alarm set. They just forgot to set it. Maybe they weren't in the habit of setting it.

52:06 Not everybody does. Hell, I forgot to set my alarm, laid down, remembered twenty minutes after I'm in bed and said, eh, I'm going to bed. Ain't nothing gonna happen. It's a risk, but I've done that several times in my life. Maybe they forgot to lock their door. We don't know that. Maybe they just forgot. Maybe he picked the lock, maybe he got in somehow. Somebody said he had the code. I found that very hard to believe unless they've communicated recently, like within that marriage timeframe. How the hell's he gonna have the code into the house. I just don't buy that, I think personally, and this is just a guess. I have nothing to back this up. That this man just went over there and turned the freaking handle and the door open, then the alarm was off. I know that sounds crazy, but nothing else makes sense to me. And I also want to say this, I've heard some conflicting reports here, and I also don't know what is exactly correct.

53:08 He was there, and a lot of people say, well, he wouldn't have went down there and broken their house without knowing if he can get in and driving all that way from Illinois. And I would submit to you that it was the holidays. He's from that area, his parents are still alive, and maybe he was visiting family. This was the day before New Year's no one had work the next day. Maybe he went down there to see his family, and maybe he ran into her somewhere and he got triggered seeing her with her husband, who she's very happy with, and he just lost his shit and went over there and got lucky, and that door was unlocked and that alarm was off. Maybe it's as simple as that. Sometimes people look so deep into something they missed the forest for the trees. But the fact is, I don't know. Maybe he did drive from all the way in Illinois, and I'm with everybody else. You're gonna drive all that way not being one hundred percent sure you can even get in the house, that's questionable. But if I'm a betting person and it hasn't come out yet that I've seen, I would bet that he was in town visiting his family, staying at their house, and it was a crime of opportunity and he just managed to be able to get in because the door was unlocked.

I hate to see this, and I hope if this guy is indeed guilty, and I think he is my personal opinion, I just don't see how you can link a gun and a vehicle to the crime scene and to this man and he didn't do it.
