"Bad Teachers" Episode Two: Dustin Corley

And let me say this before I get into today's episode. This episode I'm bringing you today is exactly why I feel the need and honestly the absolute pleasure to blast the stories of the sick, twisted individuals on exposed this teacher student deal that has become an absolute epidemic. And the acts themselves are bad enough. Couple that with the quite frankly fucking pathetic sentences these predators and yes they are predators, are actually getting and you can see why it appears to have become such a glaring issue over the past twenty years or so. Now it's important to share these stories if we want to change this. The key is to raise awareness to the problem and the only way to do that is to get as many people as possible to hear these stories and feel the outrage that all of us do. 1:41 the better. So with that, let's get into it and I'm going to bring you to the city of Dardanel, Arkansas, and to describe this city. It's in the northeast corner of what's known as Yelle County. It's a smaller city. They have about forty five hundred residents, and it is absolutely beautiful. They have what is known as Lake Dardanell that is there. It runs kind of at the base of the mountains, and it's one of the oldest incorporated cities in Arkansas, and it has that typical downtown area that you see in these older incorporated cities that just have that real nostalgic feel. It's absolutely beautiful and as you can imagine, like most cities in small town America, sports, especially high school sports, it's a big deal. And the coaches who coach those sports, they are looked up to by the students and they're typically well respected by the community as well. So I'm gonna tell you about Dustin Corley.

2:47 He was the head girls softball coach and he was the assistant football coach at Dardanelle High School, which incidentally was also his holm or mater. He graduated in two thousand and five from this same school. Interestingly, at least to me the mascot. They're called the sand Lizards, and I ain't hating on them, but that might be the first time I've ever heard of a mascot called the sand lizards. How intimidating that is. But anyway, I digress. I just found that interesting. Now, Dustin Corley had been teaching since twenty eleven, so when all this went down in twenty twenty two, he had been a teacher for eleven years. Now, that's an interesting point to me personally, and it's something I noticed right off the bat. Obviously, I researched tons of these teacher student cases, and I would say in a very high percentage of them, the teacher is relatively new five years or less. But Dustin he was a vet. He been doing this a long time, especially in comparison to others that had been in the same trouble as he would eventually get into. It's just something that stood out to me. Now, to describe Dustin Corley at this time in twenty twenty two, he was medium to average height. I guess he's about five foot nine, stocky and stature, not buff, but thick. Think of like

4:22 a dadbode with a beer gut but obsessive about his appearance. He stayed very clean and polished close priced to that kind of thing, and he was quiet around folks for the most part unless he was coaching, and he had a reputation for pretty much leasing his shit when coaching softball. As a matter of fact, a lot of people came out after his arrest and the comments on Facebook that I researched, and they were talking about him yelling kids degrading them. To me, judging by all the comments I read, he seemed like kind of a dick. Glad he didn't coach my kid, or I likely would have had to whip up on that ass honestly. Now, off the field, he was a sports freak as you would expect, and probably OCD as it pertains to everything having its place, just very particular from what I understand. And on the weekends he was a heavy drinker, which okay, nothing necessarily wrong with that. Socially on a weekend, maybe you're out with friends. I get it, I've been there, But as would be the case in this situation, Dustin's dumb assness as it relates to his decision making showed pretty early

As a matter of fact, nine years before this incident, in twenty thirteen, he got a DWI after one of those weekend nights of heavy drinking, because hey, I'm Dustin Corley and I can drive inebriated out of my mind. Just stupid. Now, in twenty twenty two, when this all went down, he was also married, having been so for nine years, to a beautiful woman. Y'all. I came across an old wedding announcement of theirs, and she is absolutely striking. And the point I'm making here is that this guy way how kicked his coverage. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna post the picture I'm referencing as well as a picture of Dustin on the Patreon so you'll have kind of a reference. And I'm bringing this up because when I get to what this asshole did, you're gonna think wt F. He was married to her and did what I'm telling you is shocking.

7:09 So life is going on for Dustin, and at this point he and his wife they had two young children, ages four and six, and right after Christmas on January fourth of twenty twenty two, everything changed for that family. So an Arkansas State trooper he's doing his thing, he's patrolling, etc. And well, nature called you have to take a piss. And he pulls over at the base of a hiking trail that goes up the mountain in that area of Arkansas, and they're in a gray Dodge Ram. The occupants of the truck see the police car and he goes to approach them and they immediately hall Ass out of that parking spot. The trooper, I would imagine, still having a piss.

8:06 No time for that, right, He pursues the vehicle. Other agencies get involved, and after a short pursuit, they pull the vehicle over and there sitting in the driver's seat is none other than Coach Corley butta Ass naked. His passenger Also there a fifteen year old girl. Coach, you got some explaining to do. Dustin at this time was thirty four years old. So he gets out of the car and as would be standard procedure, you want to get the miner in the adult away from each other and question them on the scene separately, which is what the police do. I mean, it's kind of hard to have a good acxpert nation as to wire in your vehicle naked with a fifteen year old, but it's procedure.

9:06 After the police figure out something ain't right, which probably took them all of two seconds, they put Dustin in the back of that squad car. And well, he does what all narcissists do in a situation like this. He starts thinking of people who can help him out of this situation that he put himself in, right, and he calls that beautiful wife of his from his apple watch and lies his fucking ass off. I'm sure both Corley and the fifteen year old. They get transported to the police station for more questioning, and after the questioning concluded, Dustin is arrested and he's charged with sexual assault in the first degree, endangering the welfare of a miner in the first degree, fleeing the scene in reckless driving. Now, let's cover these charges real quick, because you need to know exactly what these mean to get a grasp on what they entail. And we're going to start with sexual assault in the first degree as Arkansas defines it, a person commits sexual assault in the first degree if the person engages in sexual intercourse or deviate sexual activity with a miner who is not the actor's spouse and the

10:38 actor is one employed with the Department of Corrections to a mandated reporter and is in the position of trust or authority over the victim. Three an employee of the victim's school or school district, a temporary caretaker, or a person in trust or position of trust or authority over the victim, and it is con considered a Class A felony. He was also charged with endangering the welfare of a miner just quickly engages in conduct creating a substantial risk of death or serious physical injury, deserts a miner less than ten years old under circumstances creating a substantial risk of death or injury, And in this case it was because he fled the scene and was reckless driving essentially which endangered obviously the welfare of his fifteen year old passenger fleeing. I won't spend too much time on that, but it just says if a person knows that his immediate arrest or detention is being attempted by a duly authorized law enforcement officer, it is the lawful duty of the person to refrain from fleeing, either on foot or by means of any vehicle. Obviously he did that, And lastly, he was charged with reckless driving. Any person who drives a vehicle in such a manner as to indicate a blatant disregard for the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving. So congratulations to Dustin for those four charges that he just landed himself in. Of course,

12:12 the first degree sexual assault of felony. So there it is, right, that's pretty much all the story right there. He gets arrested, he goes to jail, case closed. Hell no, we're just getting started with this piece of shit, and I am smoking his ass like a pack of cools today. So sit back and listen to what happens after his arrest. On January sixth, not even two full days later, the Dardanelle School Board they, as you would expect, they accept his resignation, and the same day he appears for a bond hearing on these charges, which is set at one hundred and fifty thousand dollars cash or property bond. Now, in the meantime, the whole town is talking about this, right, I mean, it's not the first time this has happened in that community. Hell, it's not the first time it's happened at that high school, but more on that later.

13:12 As you would imagine they're talking about this is a small town and this guy's the coach. Everybody knew him. So on January fifteenth or thereabouts, Corly he bonds out of jail, and about the same time, that beautiful wife that he really should have never been able to land anyway, she files for divorce. So shout out to her for that. Courtly, he's already proved he's a dumb ass, right, He's already proved his decision making isn't exactly something to be desired with that DWI and then getting caught with a fifteen year old girl but ass naked. So if you think think another bad decision was coming, you would be right.

14:04 And I'm going to reference the following article by River valleymown dot com that came out on March tenth of twenty twenty two. Former Dardanell teacher and coach, Dustin Corterley is back in custody after his bond was revoked for failure to abide by the conditions of bond. Corley was arrested following an Arkansas State Police pursuit. After being placed in custody, he was booked in the Yale County Detention Center for charges of sexual assault in the first degree, endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree, fleeing, and reckless driving. After appearing in a bond hearing, his bond was ordered for one hundred and fifty thousand dollars and he was later released from jail after posting the required amount. Corley returned into custody Thursday, March tenth, after he was served a warrant filed in Yale County Circuit Court.

15:01 According to a petition to revoke the defendant's bond filed the State of Arkansas by and through its prosecuting attorney Tom Tatum. The second and for its motion states that the defendant was afforded an opportunity for bail in the present case when the court fixed his bond at one hundred and fifty thousand dollars. The court included several conditions of the bond, including that the defendant cannot have any contact with the victim and get this that on about the fifteenth day of February, the defendant made contact with the victim via a private messaging app. The officer has obtained screenshots of the conversations, that the defendant's actions were a violation of his conditions of bond, that the defendant's bond should be revoked as a result of his actions, and he should be ordered to be held into detention without bond until a hearing on this petition can be heard before this court. After the petition was approved by a judge, the warrant was issued and Corley was arrested.

16:03 On Thursday afternoon, Corley appeared before a judge. Improbable cost was found to revoke his bond. At this time, Corley was ordered to be held on a cash only bond in the amount of one million dollars along with standard bond conditions. Corley was then returned into custody at the Yale County Detention Center and being held on a new bond amount. His pre trial date was ordered to be held April eighteenth of twenty twenty two, and his jury trial is set to begin on April twenty eighth of twenty twenty two. Corley has pled not guilty to the chargers. So just when you thought it can't be possible for Dustin to be any dumber than he already is, He's going to prove you wrong. Those messages referenced in that article.

16:53 They were damning. He said things like good morning, beautiful, and I miss you and all this shit. I mean, what the fuck did you not think the police we're gonna find out about this? Do you have zero control over yourself? This dude here, y'all, you get out of jail and the first thing you do, practically is run back to the same situation that puts your stupid ass in jail to start with. So Dustin Corley is placed back in jail, right where he belongs, and this time he ain't getting out because he ain't got a million dollars. Now, I want to deviate for a second, and I want all of you listening to this to consider something, because there's more victims here than just that fifteen year old.

17:59 When these things happen, it creates a huge ripple effect, like throwing a pebble into a lake, and it just rippling and getting bigger and bigger as it goes out. Everyone who knew this guy or were friends with this jackass were affected, but no one more than his family. Think of how his wife must have felt the sheer mortification of all of this. I mean, this guy who she thought she knew for nine years of marriage, turned out to be a predator, praying on a freshman in high school at that a barely fifteen year old girl.

18:50 Then the children they share together still practically babies. I mean, it takes a strong woman to stand up to that. In my mind, my heart goes out to them. They are victims too, and to me as a man, to put your wife in kids in this position because you are a sick, twisted asshole thinking with your dick totally beyond comprehension. Any affair is wrong. It's one thing to have an affair with an adult of consenting age. It's wrong, of course, but there are a lot of things that may contribute to leading up to that happening. It's quite another to pray on a fifteen year old girl because you have some sort of control obsession and it's the weak that you pray on. It makes me sick to my stomach. But I'll move on a little about the person he was praying on. How did he know her well?

19:52 In addition to being a student at the high school that he taught at and coach dat she's also a baby's for the Corleys, sick fuck. Now. As the case went on, more instances of sexual assault came up, and if you've been listening to this, probably suspected like I did, that wasn't the first time, right, there was another from the same county of Yale that occurred actually in early December. So that's a total of two and then one each in two other counties. However, with the others likely Plea bargained away. Yep, that's right, Corley. Plea bargained, which is probably one of the few smart decisions that he's ever made in his pathetic life. And I'm going to reference an article for you now that covers him being sentenced, and it's from River Valleynow dot com and it says, following his arrest on Janieanruary fourth of twenty twenty two in dardanell for the charge of first degree sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a minor and fleeing in a vehicle causing danger, former coach Dustin Corley has been sentenced for the crimes. Courtly not only faced charges in Yale County, but also faced a first degree sexual assault charge in

21:23 Logan County in another sexual assault charge in Polk County on Thursday, August tenth of twenty twenty three, Coarterly appeared in Yale County Circuit Court in Dardenell an er deplea of guilty to the charge of first degree assault, a Class A felony, and waived his rights to a jury by trial. Courtly pleaded guilty after accepting a plea agreement with the State of Arkansas in exchange first plea. Corley was sentenced to thirty years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections, with ten years suspended, leaving twenty years to serve. He was given five hundred and twenty seven days of jail time credit towards his sentence, and Corley was ordered to pay a civil fine in the amount of the one thousand dollars one hundred fifty dollars in court cost, two hundred and fifty dollars DNA fee, one hundred dollars Children's advocacy fee, a two hundred and fifty dollars sex offender fee, and a ten dollars administrative fee. Corley must register as a sex offender and complete the RSVP program. Corley was also ordered to have no contact with the victim or the victim's family. According to the sentencing order, all remaining charges are to be dismissed. After being sentenced, Corley was transported to the Pope County Detention Center awaiting his appearance in the Circuit Court. Following his appearance in court, he will be transported to the Arkansas Department of Corrections facility

22:54 to serve the remainder of his sentence and there it is now. All of that means in about ten years or so, on a thirty year sentence, Quarterly, assuming he keeps his nose clean, would likely be released. And that is the issue. That is why we have such an epidemic in this country with teachers and students' accountability. And compared to some of the episodes I have coming up on this series, this sentence is actually harsher than most, if you can believe that. And that's a sorry statement to say the least. Now important to mention this second time around when Quarterly got initially bailed out and then gets caught communicating with that minor. They were caught on a snapchat application and those pictures they disappear. Why is this important? Well, have the police been able to access pictures like they can't on a regular text message It's likely there would have been some revealing pictures on there, and then child porn would have been added to his charges, and that's a significant length of time addition to his sentence that would have been imposed. I just thought that was important to mention a couple more things on this case.

24:23 An official close to the case also made me aware that while in prison, Courtly, being the punk that he is, he likes to harass his now ex wife with calls, letters, and even at one point he sent her a bouquet of flowers and all but one of the flowers were real, and there was a card attached, and that card said, I will always love you until the last rose dies. Now, I came across a filing from Corley's now ex wife in two twenty twenty three when I was researching this, and she had filed for an order of protection. Shockingly to me, the order was denied. I'm not sure why it was denied, but I find it interesting to say the least. I mean, even in prison, Dustin Corley wants that control, right, It's what narcissists do. Now. Lastly, at the start of this one, I told you he was not the first teacher in this school district to be convicted of this. In fact, he's not the second. From twenty eighteen to twenty twenty two, a short, little four year time period, there were three teachers from the same school district get charged and convicted of sexual relationships with students.

As we continue with this Dardanell area of Arkansas, so I want to give you some interesting stats regarding the overall issue of these teacher student relationships that I'm going to be featuring on the podcast. And the first thing I'm going to cover with you is the age of consent, because this is some of the issue. Honestly, there is no standard. It varies state by state. So let's cover that first. And if you hear your state's name, congratulations. Your state age of consent is eighteen Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, with conson in Wyoming. Now that's all the states where you must be eighteen to give legal consent to sex.

27:09 Now let's cover the states you have to be seventeen to give legal consent Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, in Texas, those states you must be seventeen to be able to consent to sex. If you did not hear your state yet, that means your state. If someone is sixteen years old, they can legally consent to sex.

27:51 So what does all that mean. Well, and we'll use Alabama as an example. In Alabama, if you're thirty five years old and you're screwing a sixteen year old who lives in the same state of Alabama, you're good. No law against it. There is a caveat, though, and that is due to the federal law, which is eighteen to consent. So if you're in Alabama and you're chatting online, let's say, with a sixteen year old in another state, and you meet that person to have sex, you are breaking the law because when you cross state lines, or if that minor cross state lines to meet with you, even in Alabama, federal law kicks in, which has the consent age set at eighteen. Confused. Yet, that's part of the problem. In my view, there is no consistency with the consent law. Now, all of that being said, I want to review another stat with you as it relates to if you you are a teacher. So there are some states that do not allow a teacher student relationship regardless of the age of consent in that state. In the case that we covered today, that was Arkansas. And in Arkansas, under state law, a teacher is prohibited from a sexual relationship with a

29:22 student younger than twenty one years old. In Washington, same law Ohio, Texas, North Carolina. In Connecticut, regardless of the student's age, teachers are not allowed to have sex with students. And in Kansas and Maryland, those states criminalize sexual contact between teachers with sixteen and seventeen year olds, but but do not address the issue of sex with eighteen year olds. So if you're a senior in high school and you turn eight teen midway through your senior year, let's say, if you're in Kansas or Maryland and your teacher has sex with you, it's legal, legal by criminal standards. Now, it doesn't mean that that teacher won't get fired, but they can't get criminal charges pressed against them, which is kind of weird. So I'm going to post on the Facebook page kind of like an age of consent poul.

Now, one last stat that I want to cover is as it relates to the rising incidents of this. It's very interesting statistically speaking, and it was a piece of artwork that I came across that covers several different stats as it relates to sexual misconduct in schools. Here's some stats for you. An estimated of one in ten students will experience school employee sexual misconduct by the time they graduate from high school.

31:15 One in ten, So if there's a class of thirty, statistically speaking, three of those people will have that experience. The type of misconduct as a percentage, seventy nine percent is contact misconduct, touching, having sex, that sort of thing. Fourteen percent is non contact, which could mean innuindo, it could mean taking pictures of the student, you know, upskirt photos, things like that, and an eight percent it's both locations where the offenses occur school or school event, fifty three percent.

32:03 Outside of school, it lists fifty three percent online. It lists nineteen percent victims, fifty six percent of female. So that actually surprised me. You would think the vast majority eighty five percent or female. It's almost half and half. The average age fifteen, disgusting. High school students make up sixty two percent of the victims. Forty nine percent are considered minorities, and fifty three percent are considered economically disadvantaged. And that did not surprise me. I'm actually surprised it's not higher because these people pray on week. They pray on the week, they pray on people that are needy in a lot of cases. The offenders sixty seven percent male, seventy eight percent white. The average age is thirty six.

32:59 General educationation teachers make up sixty eight percent. Coaches make up twenty one percent, music art teachers make up nine percent. But here's the shocking thing. Fifty percent have prior allegations of sexual assault and seven percent have prior arrest. Average jail sentence forty seven months. Another problem, less than four years. Average fifty three percent we're convicted fifty one percent were registered as a sex offender, thirty six percent have paid leave, and twenty four percent resigned.
