"Bad Teachers" Episode Three: Chrystal Vega & Lyndsey Hill

Bad Teachers, in which I covered Dustin Corley of Dardanel, Arkansas, I mentioned he was not the only teacher from that area to be wrapped up in a teacher student relationship, not even the only teacher in the recent past. And today I'm going to be exposing not one, but two teachers who were also doing bad things with students. And we're going to start with Crystal Vega. Now, a little history on Crystal. She is a native of Dover, Arkansas, and was a standout basketball player in high school, so good in fact, that she was inducted into the district's basketball Hall of Fame. This was in two thoy and fourteen.

2:38 She graduated from high school in nineteen ninety six. Now, after high school, Vega attended Arkansas Tech University, graduating in the year two thousand with a degree in health and administration, and later she completed an additional degree in education in middle childhood language Arts. So she starts her teaching career in her hometown of Dover, Arkansas as a middle school science and a language arts teacher, and in two thousand and three she gets married to her husband, Phil and eventually they have two children and their living life right.

3:23 And in twenty eleven she begins working in the Dardanelle School District at their middle school as an eighth grade science teacher. Now, in my research, I came across something very interesting, and that was an issue of what was known as the lizard's reputation. The sand lizards are the mascot at Dardenell, I know. So in this issue dated November twentieth of twenty fourteen, there's a spotlight of the month. And what was so. Crazy and would be very telling later on on, is that this spotlight featured two teachers. One was Crystall Vega and the other was Lindsey Hill. Why is that crazy because the second teacher I'm gonna tell you about today is none other than Lindsey Hill.

4:17 But for now, back to Vega. I'm gonna go ahead and read you this quick spotlight and it says my name is Crystal Vega and I teach eighth grade Language Arts. I am married to. Coach Vega, and I have two boys. And y'all, I'm not gonna name those boys. I spend most of my time out of school traveling to watch the Lizards. I can't get over that, or taking my own kids to their practices or games. I am currently coaching the fourth grade boys basketball team, and if I have any free time, I like to be outside, going on a walk or run. I'm a very active person and have always had something to do. Also in my every time, I sometimes have a girls' night out with the eighth grade teachers. And that was Crystal Vegas Spotlight in twenty fourteen and had some pictures of her with her kids and stuff like that.

5:14 So she's teaching school. Everything in front of the scenes was going great. Behind the scenes, maybe not so much now. Her husband at the time was the head coach of both the football and baseball teams at Dardanell High School. But in twenty sixteen they get a divorce. So rumor at that time not substantiated, but just the rumor meal, if you will, is that she was messing with or having some sort of affair with another coach. Now, before I go any further, of course, one thing I try to do on each of these Bad Teachers episodes is to dispel the myth that these teachers are unattractive people that can't get anybody else, so they have to go after these students. This particular teacher is probably one of the most gorgeous teachers I will ever cover on this podcast.

6:13 Some people I talk to that actually are in that area of Arkansas said on a ten scale, she's a twelve. So if you're thinking this with someone desperately seeking attention wherever she could get it, all of that sort of stuff, that. Ain't the case. So eventually her and her husband they get back together and she moves back in with her husband, and I get it. Maybe you're trying to work things out, do what you feel is best for your kids. Whatever. What is for sure is that on September sixteenth of twenty eighteen, when all this went down, she was living back with her ex husband and they were functioning as a family unit.

6:56 So on September sixteenth of twenty eighteen, sixteen year old student speaks with police and he tells them he had a sexual relationship with Crystal Vega. He told police that they were texting back and forth for a while and they had kind of this texting relationship, if you will, and that Vega texted him one day and asked him to meet her at a park in Russellville, Arkansas. So on that day, September sixteenth, of twenty eighteen, Crystal Vega did indeed meet that student at the park, arriving in her black Camaro. That student he gets out of his car and he goes into hers, and according to him, he gets into that Camaro where Vega starts performing oral sex on him, and he stated at that point they had sex in the car. Now, I already told you how attractive Vega is, right, And the police when they're told this from this sixteen year old student, they're probably not that much different than most people in the way that they would think when a sixteen year old guy is telling them this, probably thinking, no fucking way, this sixteen year old kid is having sex with this beautiful teacher.

8:21 So the police they come up with a plan and they tell the student to prove it. They tell him to text Crystal Vega and tell her something like what if someone. Finds out that we had sex? Now, I don't know that's exactly what that text said, but it's something that he had to text her where when she responded back, it would let the police know that something definitely went down. With them too. So he sends that text the student and Crystal Vega replies back with this, and this part is verbatim quote, I would never get to see kids again. Well, Crystal Vega, you probably should have thought of that first. Incidentally, this student, y'all, was the quarterback for the high school football team at Dardenell, the same team where her ex husband, which she was still living.

9:19 With, is the head coach. Only smokes. So police they see that this text is returned, and it's in their eyes, confirmation that something's going on right. The next thing the. Police do is they attempt to gather some solid evidence and they head to that park and they speak with the rangers, and they get some surveillance video, and that surveillance video shows Vegas black Camaro pulling into and leaving the park at the same time that the student stated that he and her have met in that park, so there's no denying that. She can't say that she wasn't there. Now, seeing this information, they definitely want to talk to Crystal, which they do and they bring her in for questioning.

10:14 And I have a clip of that now I edited out where he left the room a few times, and there were a few times where she was just crying for a while, and I edited that out and I just kind of left the key points in. So here's what that questioning clip sounded like. I guess, tell me just generally, what's the nature of relationships? And he would just text and I would text him, and he had told some people we had done some stuff. How long have y'all been communicating like that text? I guess I'm just a little bit. And then for Hella like Kennedy monster here, Helen y, I'm in texting.

11:01 I mean, if you did ever text before, it was just like hey or something and then but nothing. And then he would text a lot, like starting in the last month or. So, yeah, what change? Do you know? What you say? In the last month started texting a lot more. Text about everything and just see what was going on, and I ay, And I mean he did start making some comments that I would say, like, you know, we don't need to make comments. Like that, and tell me about that. What do you mean? Just like saying if I looked good or. Something, So what are you thinking? I don't know what to think.

11:47 I had to call my mom on the way here. Okay, you can I talk to her, You just like, hey, do you want some water or something? Okay, you just couldn't physically talk to her. Okay, wants to come back to work. Okay, So. Now one thing I want to make sure enough. Yeah, I want to do Okay, I know everybody's gonna know anyway. Now my kids, So I mean, do I even get to go to the ballgame Thursday night and watch them? I doesn't get in diversity anything they do.

12:34 I mean, I don't know what happened. Okay, Well, and I. Steep that I should have thought about what would. Happen, all those things going through your mind. Talking saying you gotta really stop, you gotta really stop, and and then it was like that long and and that nothing. Yeah, not even that. I mean, okay, let's stun her house. I don't know what to do. Okay. Does she live in Darnel? Oh? Okay, I don't know just what to say and what to do. I chedell Field to go to school until they just takete it him and just say it like, hey, you know I'm coming home. I don't know what to do.

13:27 It's okay not to know. No, no, no, I'm saying It's okay not to know what to do. There's no book on that. There's no book on how to handle every situation, and you just you do the You're gonna make the best decision that you can. Is that ready doesn't want to? Okay, my role pretty much stops once I get all the information and hand it off. I'm sorry that he's even had to have this conversation with me.

14:08 Well, I'm sorry that I am too, But you don't know me any apology. No idea, how mad him. Said, Yeah, go ahead, I'm sorry. Oh my god, I don't know. No bed pray like freaking stop. That's what you can do. Yeah, what world? People have come back from worst thing.

14:54 I want you to know that. I want you to know that with. And lesser people than what I think you are, I mean, I ever going to do anything wrong and kid about that life. Were going to church, Listen, it's a good place to start. H everybody will not want to be near me. We said things back and forth some, but I mean I always told him that, I mean I was getting huge trouble ye for that, And I mean I don't even know what will happen. Just we're testing and.

15:45 Do you feel like some of the texts crossed the line. Yeah, and I'm sure I don't very well. I don't want to. I don't I want you to be you know, I haven't eaten a thing. I know it's uncomfortable. I'd like to get through this, and I do want to work for you on this end and find out, you know, if something happened, then I need to know why, okay, because I think that matters. Why definitely matters in cases like this. So why did I talk to him? I don't know. You're just talking to me, and I talked to him back. Okay.

16:35 He was in my car, and he was in my car, and I did stop and see him. But we didn't do anything. And I don't know why everybody's saying we did something. I don't know why he's telling people we did anything. Okay, Well, I mean, but I don't know. I can't stop that and they can't change that. Okay. Was there any kind of physical contact between the two of y'all? Omit there, whether he initiated it or not or otherwise. He just kind of like that in my head and light started. He just I was just sight this is crazy. Yeah, he wanted to anticipate and I said, we can off.

17:17 You was crazy. I said, he was crazy. I mean you told me it's easy to You got caught up in the texting back and forth, and I can understand that it doesn't It doesn't seem like a teenager on the other end of a phone because you don't get to see him. Now. The video of that I will go ahead and post on the Patreon page for the subscribers. You can tell a lot from the video as well. But let's break down that questioning. First off, the detective here did an amazing job. You may be thinking, why is he being so nice to her? He needs to tell her about it, rid of the Riote Act whatever. Well, in this situation, that is the last thing you would want to do.

18:09 At this point, he has Vega in that room by herself. She is not lawyered up, and he wants to get her at ease right, make her not feel threatened, because the second she feels threatened, she's gonna lawyer up and that interview stops. She quits saying anything. So he's got to play a role in the first thing he asked, and the first red flag for me was he asked how long they had been texting, and she meanders all around the question, saying, you know, a text every now and then, just saying hello, And then she says in the past month it was more frequent. Well, I call total bullshit on that. It was way longer than that.

18:56 When you offer up any existence of tech and then follow it up with just to say hey, it is a premeditated response. She knows police can get access to cell phone records, but Vega is no dummy. She's a teacher, she's got degrees and all that stuff. She knows that those cell records, while they would show a text back and forth, they're not going to show what. That text said. So she could say that text just said hey, and there's no way to really prove that unless the sixteen year old had screenshots, et cetera of it. But I submit to you, there is no way in hell a student is texting someone of Vegas caliber physically. And what I mean is he's sixteen. There's no way he's texting her just to say hey. And I guarantee you, Crystal Vega knew that. I'm pretty sure she knew that. Every six sxteen year old guy, seventeen year old guy in that school wanted to have sex with her. I mean, I've been there. I was a high school sixteen year old, seventeen year old at one time, and I'm telling you, your hormones at that time are absolutely raging. She knew that, and if she ever received a text from a sixteen year old kid just to say, hey, she knows exactly what that kid's looking for.

20:27 Here's teacher. Why else would he be texting you? He wants to be friends? Come on. So then the detective he goes into the worthy text inappropriate questions and she responds with, yeah, probably, so, I. Mean, come on, she knows they were. And throughout this whole thing, he's playing the nice guy, and all she can say is how everybody's gonna look at her differently and all that stuff. And he said, you're gonna get through this and it's not the end of the world, and y'all. That's just to act. He was just acting to. Keep her talking. And then towards the end of that you hear him ask if anything sexual had occurred, and her response essentially was, well, he tried to kiss me and I told him, Nick, this can't be happening. You can't do this, we'll get in trouble. Let me say this. She texted him, Remember that she texted him at that point to meet her at the park. She wasn't doing that to go over his final exam, y'all. She was doing that for sex. Everybody, including the detective, knew that you don't meet a student in the park just to talk. Why would you take that kind of risk if you're innocent, if it weren't inny something, why not meet him at the library or at a coffee shop, which even that to me would

21:57 be inappropriate, but certainly not a park. There's but one thing you're going to be doing in a park with no one else around with the sixteen year old student, if you're Crystal Vega. So the police they're still gathering evidence. She leaves, and they call the student and they ask if the student still had his underwear, which he did, and they go get it and they run a DNA test and guess what, Crystal Vega's DNA is all over that underwear. And I would imagine it was saliva DNA from that blow job. They re covered, but it doesn't stipulate in the document. On October fifteenth of two thousand, she's arrested and she's booked into the Pope County Jail on first degree sexual assault, and her bond gets set at seventy five hundred dollars and she was released pending her court date. Just hours later, and then just a couple of days after that, as expected, she gets fired from teaching. Now, this is a serious charge in Arkansas.

23:11 A Class A felony carries a sentence from six to thirty years in prison, as well as a fine of up to fifteen thousand dollars. So with all this evidence, Crystal gets an attorney, and her attorney is a guy by the name of Michael Robbins, who someone I know from the area told me he was a and I quote, super asshole who thinks he is the shit because he was part of a major murder case a while back. Now, I don't know the guy, so I don't have any direct knowledge of. Whether he's a super asshole or not. But there you have it. What I do know is that in the cases I am bringing you today, as well as the one I brought you last week, he was the attorney I believe for all three of those cases, at least two of the three. Now as bad as he may be in some areas like being a super asshole, he must be a pretty good attorney, because what I'm about to tell you will no doubt shock you. Crystal Vega she was facing some time six to thirty years and I'm sure her attorney advised her to cop a plea, which she did, and he managed to work out what I would call an unbelievable deal. On February twenty six of twenty nineteen,

24:42 Vega please no contest to first degree sexual assault and was sentenced to seventy two months of probation, a twenty five hundred dollars fine, one hundred and fifty dollars court cost, in a two hundred and fifty dollar fee for the DNA test of that pair of underwear. Oh and she had to register as a sex offender. No jail time at all. Un fucking believable. To me. I tell you all the time. This is the freaking problem with these teacher student relationships. These are why they're so prevalent. Weak ass sentences like this unrude. So let's move on to our second case today, and that involves none other than Crystal Vega's former best friend, former best friend and fellow teacher, Meredith Lindsey Hill, who went by Lindsey And yes, you heard me right. Her and Vega were best when they were both teachers. So a little history on miss Hill. And if you will remember, I referenced that Spotlight article a few minutes ago where both Vega and Hill were featured in twenty fourteen. And so

26:14 I'll go ahead and I'll read you Miss Hill's paragraph. It gives really good insight into her life prior to this incident, and it reads seventh grade teacher in softball, Coach Lindsey Hill is the Teacher of the Month for December. This is her third year teaching in the middle school. Coach Hill teaches seventh grade science. She has previously taught eighth grade science at Dartnell for the past two years. Lindsay Hill is originally from Jonesboro, Arkansas, where she graduated from Nettleton High School with honors. For college, she attended BPCC in Shreveport, Louisiana, to play softball for the Cavaliers.

26:56 For two seasons. She finished out her college softball career at Arkansas Tech, where she graduated in twenty eleven in Health and Physical Science. Lindsay is married to Garrett Hill, who is a teacher and a coach at Pottsville. They had their first. Child and I'm not going to read the name in August of that year, twenty fourteen. In her spare time, Coach Hill loves to play golf, shop and hang out with her family. She also loves to coach summer softball teams the Arkansas Extreme. Coach Hill's favorite part about Dardanell's school district is their coworkers at the middle school. We are a tight knit family. We hang out outside of school and everything. Working with my friends makes my job more enjoyable. One thing Coach Hill would like to say to her students, You're smarter than you give yourself credit for.

27:46 Never saw yourself short. Start thinking now about what you really love to do and find a job that deals with that and go after it. You can do it, no matter who tells you. Sounds like a pretty great person. Said in her spotlight. She was a standout athlete in her day, and it's not surprising that although she taught seventh grade science, she was also a coach for the. High school, and a good one. So good in. Fact, that the high school she coached at They won the four A softball state championship in twenty nineteen for the entire state of Arkansas, and she was voted coach of the Year for the entire state. And to describe her very athletic, looking, very in shape, extremely pretty, blond hair, beautiful smile, stunning, and she seemed to excel in everything.

28:42 She absolutely did. That was until January thirteenth of twenty twenty three, when a call was placed to a child abuse hotline. Now the caller alleged that Lindsey was having a sexual relationship with a student. So police they get this information and they do what police do. They go speak to this student and he verifies that he was indeed having a sexual relationship with Lindsey Hill. The student stated that Lindsey Hill was his seventh grade teacher, but the relationship did not start until the summer between his ninth and tenth grade school years. So police they start investigating and they speak with his friends, and his friends are able to produce screenshots the student sent them of conversations he was having via text with Lindsey Hill. One of those friends even had a nude photo of Lindsey on his phone that the student sent to his front. So the student told police the relationship started via text and that during one of those texts exchanges, Lindsey invited the student too were classrooms so they could have sex, he said, She said.

30:05 It flat out, just like that. So he goes. Into her classroom and they have sex in her classroom. Now, the student said, over time, Lindsey actually got hooked on him and became very possessive, almost stalking him, would not leave him alone, and it led him to having to block her on Instagram. Now, think about that, this is a kid between ninth and tenth grade. This is going on, and she is stalking him so bad he has to block her on Instagram. Basically he breaks up with her or whatever blocks her. And this is an attractive teacher.

30:50 Mind boggling. So armed with all. These texts in the new photo, even police they call Lindsey Hill in for questioning. But maybe she learned something from her bestie when Vega got caught in her ordeal and Lindsey she lawyers up. She ain't saying shit, said police. They feel like, hey, we've got enough evidence. Anyway, We've got these texts, we got you nude, and we got proof that they were sent to this student. So on January nineteenth of twenty twenty three, they arrest her on a charge of first degree sexual assault and they buck her into the Pope County Detention Center and she bonds out on twenty five hundred dollars bond, and she's required to wear an ankle bracelet, and she's not allowed to go anywhere with anyone under the age of eighteen or be around them except for her kids obviously. Then on April twenty fourth of twenty twenty three, a new charge of sex assault was added. So at this point you have one count of first degree sexual assault that, according to court records, occurred between the dates of June twenty first, twenty twenty one in September one of twenty twenty one, and that was with that initial student. Then police have another student come forward during the investigation with sexual assault allegations,

32:26 which brings about that second charge, which according to court documents, took place between September first of twenty twenty two. In November thirtieth of twenty twenty two, a year and a half after her first name relationship with a student. Then, on May twenty third, twenty twenty three, a third student comes forward with evidence of sexual assault that started occurring in October of twenty twenty two. So this check this teacher was screwing two separate students at the same time.

33:11 You heard me right now. Police during their investigation they even managed to get a cell phone video of Lindsey dancing provocatively with one of the students at her house. Now, she was married when this very first charge hit her, and from what I'm told, her husband was good people as shocked as anyone about all of this, and. He of course divorces her. Now, in my research, I came across a rumor mill, and it's important to note I have no direct knowledge of this, but some say her sudden departure from Dardenelle High School, where she also taught, to the Pottsville School was due to an investigation into a relationship with a student where nothing could be substantiated. But due to the investigation, she switched schools. Don't have any proof of that, but that's the rumor meal. So eventually she does what they all do when they're caught. She takes a plea and on September twenty fifth of twenty twenty three, this occurs, but she didn't get off as easy as her bestie did, which may be surprised her, But considering all she had done countless times with at least three different students, I think it was still a super light sentence. The state drops one charge of sexual assault, which left her with two,

34:45 probably the two they felt they had the strongest case with, and she receives a twenty year sentence with ten years suspended. So all told, ten years in jail. She'll she probably served eight years of that is, she keeps her nose clean, and considering she was only thirty five when she got sentenced, she'll likely be released when she's around forty three years old. And for three charges of sexual assault against three different kids, y'all, that's light ass fuck in my opinion. Now, the absolute most insane thing to me.

35:27 About all of this. You got three teachers, all from the same general area, all of them knew each other. Twenty eighteen, Vega gets arrested for screwing a student and she ends up with probation that occurred in twenty nineteen. Twenty twenty two, Dustin Corterley gets arrested. He sentenced to thirty years. Ten of those suspended in August to twenty twenty three. And then after both Vega and Corley had been arrested and caught for this shit, what. Does Lindsay Hill do? She gets arrested in January of twenty twenty three, and in September of twenty twenty three she gets twenty years with ten suspended. All these teachers all knew each other, and all were within.

36:18 A few miles of each other. You would think Lindsey would have taken note of what Vega and Coraley just went through in the preceding couple of years and would have stopped her behavior. But this sick chick decided why not screwed to at a time, and that was the same fucking year Corley was arrested. I told you this was crazy, shocking, So there you have it. State of Arkansas got a problem. But they're not the only ones. And this is why I do this series. This is why it's so important for all of you to share this, share this podcast. Nothing's going to change with this student teacher bullshit until enough people are outraged by it. And they can't get outraged by it if we don't share it. Share the podcast.
