Charlotte Bishop Martin meets with Pope Leo, thanks him for illegal immigrant advocacy

While on pilgrimage in Rome recently, Bishop Michael Martin had a brief but meaningful encounter with Pope Leo XIV during the pope’s general audience on Wednesday – giving him the opportunity to raise the issue of immigration actions happening in Charlotte.

Bishop Martin said he shared with the pope “how much the people of western North Carolina are praying for him and supportive of his ministry,” and he “thanked him for the messaging that he's so clearly offered on behalf of migrants in our area who are in so much distress and experiencing so much anxiety these days.” He also asked Pope Leo to continue praying for the people of the Diocese of Charlotte and assured the pope that they would continue to pray for him in return.

Martin’s dispensation is especially shocking since it suggests that escaping the consequences of a reasonable law takes precedence over the obligation to worship God at Holy Mass.

Marriage is an exclusive union requiring 'tender care,' Vatican says

While the Catholic Church has emphasized that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, that it is indissoluble and that the couple must be open to having children, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith said it was time to emphasize the importance of it being the exclusive union of two people who form a bond they share with no one else.

Pope Leo XIV has called Cardinals back to Rome for an "Extraordinary Consistory."

The Vatican has confirmed that the Holy Father is gathering his advisors in January for a major strategy session. This is the first time the new American Pope has called such a meeting, and rumours are swirling that the agenda is wide open.

The Question: If you had a seat at that table, which one crisis would you demand they fix first?

A) The confusion over the Latin Mass?

B) The decline in vocations?

C) The persecution of Christians abroad?

CGA Charlotte Shares Mission at Grandparents Day & St. Nicholas Celebration

The Catholic Grandparents Association (CGA) of Charlotte Diocese was delighted to host an information table at St Ann Catholic School’s combined Grandparents Day and St. Nicholas Day celebration last week—a joyful gathering that brought faith, family, and tradition together under one roof.  Grandparents stopped by the CGA table throughout the event to learn more about the association’s mission: supporting grandparents in their vital role of passing on the gift of faith. Kathy Consler (right) and Teresa Sanctis (left), CGA Charlotte Diocese Leaders, shared brochures, handed out Prayer Cards for Grandparents, written by Pope Benedict at the request of CGA. They answered questions and spoke with grandparents about upcoming CGA meetings.  The festive atmosphere of St. Nicholas Day added a special touch, with many guests reflecting on the importance of generosity and faithfulness—values deeply connected to the CGA’s work. Grandparents appreciated the opportunity to learn how the association can help them strengthen their spiritual influence in the lives of their grandchildren, while staff welcomed the chance to collaborate more closely with the organization.  The CGA extends heartfelt thanks to the school for providing a welcoming space to share its mission and for fostering a strong partnership between home, school, and parish. The event was a wonderful reminder that when generations come together in faith, the entire community is enriched.  The association looks forward to future opportunities to support families and continue celebrating the important role grandparents play in nurturing the faith of the next generation.

St. Joseph College Seminary

Father Kauth asked that some dirt that was moved to make room for the new chapel be added to the small hill located behind the construction site.  By raising this hill, Father created a great vantage point from which to survey progress.  Our general contractor, Edifice, is doing great, and the project is on time and on budget. You can follow along from the comfort of your home or office by visiting the construction cam HERE

The columns and beams have now been joined for 2/3 of the chapel, and studs are being added in addition to the inner roof.

Please pray for the safety of our construction workers.

Local seminary’s impact reflected in

new clergy

We are blessed to have the Daughters of the Virgin Mother here at the seminary and in our diocese. The other day, Whitney Hetzel brought two members of the Sisters of Mary (https://worldvillages.org/), one of whom works in Tanzania and the other in Mexico, to meet with Mother Mary Raphael and the other sisters. It is always extra joyful when sisters visit with sisters. From left to right: Sr. Mary Agatha Rose, Sr. Mary Jacinta, Sr. Marilyn, Mother Mary Raphael, Sr. Margie Cheong, Whitney Hetzel, Christy George, and Sr. Mary Philomena. Please pray for all of our sisters and consider supporting their missions.

Charlotte Latin Mass Community

The CLMC would like to thank the many faithful of Charlotte who are committed to the success of the new chapel in Mooresville and to preserving the diocesan Latin Mass community. Sunday’s noon High Mass had over 250 in attendance, and Monday’s 7PM Low Mass for the Immaculate Conception had around 175 of the faithful make the drive late on a weeknight. We also would like to thank Fr. Jones, our chaplain, for all he has done (and continues to do) to offer the TLM for our community.

Blessed be God!

Traditionalists push Pope Leo to resurrect the Latin Mass:

The Latin Mass has become toxically politicized and is posing a test for Pope Leo XIV as traditionalists call on him to reverse restrictions imposed by Pope Francis.

October 19,… See more

The Charlotte Latin Mass Community, (CLMC) is a private association of the faithful as defined by Canon Law (Can. 299 §1 and Can. 215).  We are Catholic faithful in the Charlotte area who strive in a common endeavor to pass down the traditional Catholic Faith to our children and to worship through the traditional Latin Rite liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. We subject ourselves in full docility to the authentic authority of our Bishop, His Excellency Michael Martin, and the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV; which is to protect and defend the Catholic faith and the sacred deposit of tradition. MORE

Something historic is happening in the Carolinas.

Our recent announcement that the SSPX General Council has given approval for us to begin searching for land to build The New Saint Anthony’s — has already reached tens of thousands of Catholics across the country. The growth, excitement, and grace surrounding our chapel is undeniable.

We’re witnessing a rare moment: young families, vocations, and unwavering fidelity to Catholic Tradition is outgrowing our current chapel. A new home isn’t just a dream anymore — it’s a necessity. And God is opening the doors.

We invite Catholics everywhere — families, benefactors, and all who love the Faith — to join us in this next chapter.

Be part of building a Catholic future in the South.

It is our honor to share with you the joyful news that our pastor, The Very Rev. Jeffrey F. Kirby, STD, VF, has recently been appointed as the new Dean of the Rock Hill Deanery in the Diocese of Charleston.  A Dean is a senior priest who assists the Bishop by working with a cluster of priests and parishes entrusted to him (called a deanery) in fulfilling the mission of the Church. There are seven Deans in the Diocese of Charleston. Father Kirby has been appointed the Dean of the Rock Hill Deanery, which includes Lancaster, York, and Chester Counties.  We invite all to keep Father Kirby in prayer as he begins this important mission.
