CATHOLIC SAINTSFirst Sunday of Advent

HAPPY NEW YEAR, CATHOLIC CHURCH!

The first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of the liturgical year in the Catholic Church, a time of renewal and preparation for the coming of Christ. As stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Advent is “a season of joyful expectation” (CCC 524), when the faithful are invited to prepare their hearts for both the celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas and His future return in glory. This is a time for spiritual renewal and a call to conversion, echoing the biblical exhortation of St. Paul to “put on the armor of light” (Romans 13:12). In this sense, the first Sunday of Advent is not only the start of a new liturgical year, but also a new spiritual beginning, setting the tone for the whole year of grace ahead.

Charlotte Bishop Martin meets with Pope Leo, thanks him for illegal immigrant advocacy

While on pilgrimage in Rome recently, Bishop Michael Martin had a brief but meaningful encounter with Pope Leo XIV during the pope’s general audience on Wednesday – giving him the opportunity to raise the issue of immigration actions happening in Charlotte.

Bishop Martin said he shared with the pope “how much the people of western North Carolina are praying for him and supportive of his ministry,” and he “thanked him for the messaging that he's so clearly offered on behalf of migrants in our area who are in so much distress and experiencing so much anxiety these days.” He also asked Pope Leo to continue praying for the people of the Diocese of Charlotte and assured the pope that they would continue to pray for him in return.

Bishop Martin dispenses illegal immigrants from Sunday Mass obligation in Charlotte

Martin’s dispensation is especially shocking since it suggests that escaping the consequences of a reasonable law takes precedence over the obligation to worship God at Holy Mass.

Your Year-End Tax-Deductible Gift

will help

keep local

Catholic Radio on-air in Charlotte!

With our Carolina Catholic Media Year End Fundraiser now officially underway, I want to reiterate our commitment to turn apostolate operations over to the talented young GEN-Zers across the 3 Dioceses of the Carolinas.  As we look ahead to 2026, we believe these young Catholics have the talent and initiative to provide content and manage the technology for both our radio and digital platforms.

To accelerate finding these individuals we are in discussions with the most dynamic youth organization in America today, Turning Point USA.  As new TPUSA chapters open on college campuses and high schools in our Carolina Catholic Dioceses there is an opportunity to develop strategic alliances that tap into the energy of their youth movement, building synergies that will benefit Carolina Catholic Radio and Digital Media into the future.

This Carolina Catholic Year End Fundraiser will be the most important in our 7-year history.  To the hundreds of you who have made donations over the past 7 years we thank you.  We hope you will join us again in our quest to evangelize the Truth of Jesus Christ and our Catholic Faith across the Carolinas!  Please keep our apostolate in your prayers as you discern your Year End 100% tax deductible gift to help keep Catholic Radio on the airwaves around Charlotte in 2026!  Thank you so much for your continued support.  May God Bless You abundantly!

Marriage is an exclusive union requiring 'tender care,' Vatican says

While the Catholic Church has emphasized that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, that it is indissoluble and that the couple must be open to having children, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith said it was time to emphasize the importance of it being the exclusive union of two people who form a bond they share with no one else.

Pope Leo XIV has called Cardinals back to Rome for an "Extraordinary Consistory."

The Vatican has confirmed that the Holy Father is gathering his advisors in January for a major strategy session. This is the first time the new American Pope has called such a meeting, and rumours are swirling that the agenda is wide open.

The Question: If you had a seat at that table, which one crisis would you demand they fix first?

A) The confusion over the Latin Mass?

B) The decline in vocations?

C) The persecution of Christians abroad?

Father Kauth asked that some dirt that was moved to make room for the new chapel be added to the small hill located behind the construction site.  By raising this hill, Father created a great vantage point from which to survey progress.  Our general contractor, Edifice, is doing great, and the project is on time and on budget. You can follow along from the comfort of your home or office by visiting the construction cam

The columns and beams have now been joined for 2/3 of the chapel, and studs are being added in addition to the inner roof. Please pray for the safety of our construction workers.

UPDATE: At the November presbyteral council meeting Bishop Michael Martin requested that the use of altar rails be discontinued in the diocese. We are hearing the meeting was contentious and 3 hours long. Canon lawyers were referenced.

Priests & faithful: he can ask but cannot command. USE THE RAILS!

[To our understanding this applies to all Novus Ordo masses and does not apply to the Latin Mass chapel in Mooresville].

The Charlotte Latin Mass Community, (CLMC) is a private association of the faithful as defined by Canon Law (Can. 299 §1 and Can. 215).  We are Catholic faithful in the Charlotte area who strive in a common endeavor to pass down the traditional Catholic Faith to our children and to worship through the traditional Latin Rite liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church. We subject ourselves in full docility to the authentic authority of our Bishop, His Excellency Michael Martin, and the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV; which is to protect and defend the Catholic faith and the sacred deposit of tradition. MORE

Something historic is happening in the Carolinas.

Our recent announcement that the SSPX General Council has given approval for us to begin searching for land to build The New Saint Anthony’s — has already reached tens of thousands of Catholics across the country. The growth, excitement, and grace surrounding our chapel is undeniable.

We’re witnessing a rare moment: young families, vocations, and unwavering fidelity to Catholic Tradition is outgrowing our current chapel. A new home isn’t just a dream anymore — it’s a necessity. And God is opening the doors.

We invite Catholics everywhere — families, benefactors, and all who love the Faith — to join us in this next chapter.

Be part of building a Catholic future in the South.

I appreciate your prayers for my meeting with Bishop Martin recently regarding divorce ministry.  He was gracious and demonstrated a keen interest in the challenges faced by the separated and divorced. This meeting marked the beginning of the necessary work, and he is contemplating the matters I presented. Please continue praying for his discernment.  I prayed for all of you in the Diocesan center chapel.
