Engaging the Faithful: The Role of Carolina Catholic Media

A Journey of Evangelization in Charlotte 2019-Present

UNPRECEDENTED LOCAL CATHOLIC PROGRAMMING

Dear Friends and Benefactors:

Before 2019, there was no local electronic media voice for the Catholic Church in Charlotte. This changed with the establishment of Carolina Catholic Media, which has become instrumental in spreading the Good News within the Diocese of Charlotte and across the Carolinas ever since.

If Jesus Christ were on earth today, how would He spread His message of salvation? Would He use television, radio, newspapers, direct mail, billboards, DVDs, or would Jesus use the internet and digital platforms like YouTube, Podcasts, email, and text messages? We believe Jesus would use as many means as possible, and that is why we diversified to offer a wide variety of electronic media tools to evangelize and promote Gospel values.

Over the years we have constantly discussed the history, vision, and mission of Carolina Catholic Media (Carolina Catholic Radio) and how we can best serve the Charlotte Diocese and Catholics across the Carolinas as a Laity Apostolate.  We have engaged with many members of both clergy and laity to identify areas of need where Carolina Catholic Media can provide solutions and add value as an independent Catholic Media supplier.  We have utilized an official Advisory Board which has included category specialists for the Clergy, Catholic Education, Parish Life, Development, Business, and Technology.

These efforts underscore Carolina Catholic Media’s commitment to leveraging modern communication tools to foster faith, provide spiritual nourishment, and engage the Catholic community in Charlotte. Through innovative media strategies and collaborative endeavors, Carolina Catholic Media has always aimed to spread the Gospel and promote Gospel values effectively.

This week we continue our look back at some of the many program topics covered and a list of achievements accomplished over our 7-year history.  Do you know someone who may be a great candidate to join our all-volunteer staff?  We look forward to hearing from you as we continue to build the next phase of our Carolina Catholic Apostolic Mission for future generations.

Catholic Means Universal

Only the Catholic church has done this command from Jesus:

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations...Mt 28:19.

This is why the Catholic Church is truly a universal church as it aligns with what Jesus desired and by the protection of the Holy Spirit, she stood up the test of time for almost 2000 years.

Belmont Abbey College

This morning, Abbot Placid had the incredible privilege of speaking at the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., where he shared the exciting news of the expansion of Belmont Abbey’s Belmont House on Capitol Hill. This expansion signifies a bold step forward in our mission to deepen our presence in Washington, D.C., and to amplify faithful Catholic voices in media, politics, and culture.

We were also honored to have Abbey leadership join Bishop Michael Martin at this inspiring event, surrounded by so many dedicated individuals. The morning featured powerful speeches from influential leaders like VP JD Vance, making it a truly memorable occasion. We are deeply grateful and humbled to have the Abbey represented on such a significant national stage.

A call to build the Kingdom

CHARLOTTE — Reflecting God’s glory by using our hands and our resources to serve others is at the heart of this year’s Diocesan Support Appeal that kicks off the weekend of Feb. 1-2.

The theme of the 2025 Diocesan Support Appeal is “Reflecting God’s Light,” which draws upon a quote from St. Francis of Assisi: “All the darkness in the world cannot extinguish the light of a single candle.”

News for Knights of Columbus

VOLUME 43 │ NUMBER 8 │ FEBRUARY 28, 2025

On Feb. 22, 1900, the first Fourth Degree exemplification was held for 1,100 candidates at the Lenox Lyceum in New York City. With the promotion of the new degree, the Order sought to foster love of country and to impress upon its members the duties of faithful citizenship. Exactly 125 years after that first exemplification, Knights of Columbus and family members, including Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly, the board of directors and other K of C leaders, filled St. Patrick’s Cathedral, known as “America’s Parish Church,” to celebrate the milestone and the Order’s continued witness of authentic patriotism.

A Celebration of Catholic Patriotism

More than 650 men were inducted into the Fourth Degree during the premiere of a revised Exemplification of Patriotism, which took place at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Feb. 22. Marking the 125th anniversary of the Fourth Degree, the celebratory event began with Cardinal Timothy Dolan, archbishop of New York, joined by Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly, Supreme Chaplain Archbishop William Lori and relatives of Blessed Michael McGivney, unveiling a new bronze statue of the K of C founder commissioned by the Order for the cathedral.

Hope for a Pro-Life Future

The March for Life and Life Fest held last month in Washington, D.C., showcased the joy and hope that America’s young people bring to the pro-life cause. “This is a young movement, it’s a vibrant movement and there’s a momentum to it,” reflected Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly while participating in the march. “That gives me great hope for the future of the march and the future of the pro-life cause in America.”
