02-01-25 CC EDITION

Dear Friends and Benefactors:

This week we enter our seventh year in operation, reenergized with our new local broadcast partner, ready to bring Charlotte's first Catholic Radio Station AM1270 WCGC back by mid-year with the potential for expanded coverage as an AM/FM Radio combo.

The operational plan is set.  It will require the necessary ‘working capital’ for engineering and operational consolidation to maximize the coverage area and minimize the cost of operations.  As with all non-profits, growing and diversified financial support will be a key to the success of our mission.

Now the rest is up to you.  With your financial support we will move forward and continue the mission to evangelize the Truth of Jesus Christ and our Catholic Faith on 7 broadcast and digital platforms reaching thousands of souls across Charlotte, the Carolinas and beyond.

Today I ask you to prayerfully discern the financial role you, your family and your parish can play.  Please join us for Charlotte’s CATHOLIC RADIO RELAUNCH 2025.

FEBRUARY—MONTH OF THE HOLY FAMILY

The month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family. The special devotion which proposes the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph as the model of virtue of all Christian households began in the 17th century. It started almost simultaneously in Canada and France: the Association of the Holy Family was founded in Montreal in 1663, and by the Daughters of the Holy Family in Paris in 1674. This devotion soon spread and in 1893 Leo XIII expressed his approval of a feast under this title and himself composed part of the Office. On account of the flight into Egypt this feast has been observed by the Copts from early times. The feast was welcomed by succeeding Pontiffs as an efficacious means for bringing home to the Christian people the example of the Holy Family at Nazareth, and by the restoration of the true spirit of family life, stemming, in some measure, the evils of present-day society.

In the words of His Holiness Pope Leo XIII, "Nothing truly can be more salutary or efficacious for Christian families to meditate upon than the example of this Holy Family, which embraces the perfection and completeness of all domestic virtues."

FIRST FRIDAY:
1. The first Friday of each month was designated by Jesus himself as consecrated to honoring his Most Sacred Heart, to increase our love for Him in Holy Communion by receiving Our Lord Jesus Christ on first Friday and to make reparation for past and present offenses against His love. Those that keep the first Friday devotion receive 12 promises.

FIRST SATURDAY:
2. “See, my daughter, My Heart surrounded with thorns with which ingrates pierce me at every moment with blasphemies and ingratitude. You, at least, make sure to console me and announce that all those who for five months, on the first Saturdays, go to confession, receive Communion, say five decades of the Rosary and keep me company for 15 minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, with the purpose of making reparation to Me, I promise to assist them at the hour of death with all the graces necessary for the salvation of their souls." ~ Our of Lady of Fatima to Sister Lucia

FIRST WEDNESDAY:
3. Wednesdays are dedicated to Saint Joseph, but especially the first Wednesday of the month where you can offer your Holy Communion to his Most Chaste Heart that he would continue to intercede and protect you and your famil
y.

Pastoral Pondering

Father  John  Putnam has been the pastor of Saint Mark Catholic Church since 2015.

On the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, Bishop Martin visited the parish and celebrated the parish Mass at 11 a.m. In his homily he challenged everyone to live out their baptismal call and to realize that we are all called to respond to the Lord’s goodness to us. During the distribution of Holy Communion, the Bishop chose not to use the altar rails to distribute, and this was upsetting to a number of parishioners who have been used to our (almost decade-long) practice here; using the kneelers but allowing each person to choose how he or she receives in accordance with individual conscience. Hence, I wanted to address the concern, and, while not speaking for the Bishop in this regard, give some insight into his actions.
